For the past three months, it remained between King and Queen that they were finally expecting their first child. Especially King was the best keeper of secrets in this case.
Today didn't really start well for Queen, since she suddenly felt quite sick upon waking up, which had a very demotivational effect on her, especially if it came to getting out of bed to get ready for the morning.
At 8:30 a.m., someone knocked on her bedroom door.
"Yes Please Come In…" Queen groaned sickly.
The door slowly opened, and King entered the room.
"Are you feeling okay, Queen?" he asked. "You're usually up and about by now."
"I Think I'm Sick…"
"Oh dear, no wonder why you look so tired."
"Please Get Me A Doctor To: Check On Me. I Don't Want Myself Or The Baby To Have A Virus…!"
"Queenie Beanie, don't worry, the baby won't… wait, never mind. Forget I said that. I'll get you one of the doctors." And with that, King abruptly left the room, forgetting to close the door behind him in a hurry.
The door not being closed was actually timed fairly conveniently, as Amore happened to pass by with an empty plastic bucket, only just being about to go to the supply closet to prepare it for his next cleaning session.
"Huh?" Amore mumbled. "Why is that bedroom door still open…? Queen is usually awake by now, as well as pretty tidy…" He knocked on the door frame and spoke up. "My Queen? Is it okay if I come in?"
"Wherefore…?" Queen weakly groaned.
"Oh no, you sound like you're sick. Is it okay if I drop this bucket off in case you need to throw up? I won't be long for that, I promise."
"Yes Please That's Very Kind Of You…"
"Alright." Amore briefly entered the room and gently placed the bucket at the bedside. "I hope you'll feel better soon, my Queen. I hate to see you like this."
"Thank You Amore Dear I Appreciate That…"
"Did someone send a doctor yet?"
"Kingy Wingy Is Getting One…"
"Better make room for them, in that case. Rest well." The friendly Hathy left the room just as soon, actually closing the door behind him like the gentleman he actually was, and it was only a good thing for him that the supply closet still wasn't too far away from the fifth floor.
For Queen, it was a good thing that she just received that bucket out of nowhere, since she indeed felt nauseous to the point of having to throw up. And now that the door was closed, she felt confident enough to give in to it as well.
"Ugh I Hate Being This Sick…" Queen groaned to herself once her deed was done. "I've Never Been So Sick Before…" She arduously placed the bucket back onto the floor and plopped back down onto her bed and pillow like an old doll.
It subsequently seemed to take ages before King came back, this time accompanied by Iggy, who wore a face mask for her own safety.
King, who opened the door back up, had brought a large tumbler of water for Queen, whereas Iggy was armed with one of the largest-seeming doctor's bags of all of Card Castle.
"Kingy Wingy Is That: You…?"
"Yes" King simply replied as he entered the room.
"Watch Out For: The Bucket…"
"What bucket? Ooh… oh dear, that looks pretty bad…" The spadeling carefully put the tumbler onto the nightstand, not trying to look too much at the bucket's contents.
"I'm here, too, my Queen" Iggy said as she closed the door behind her. "I heard you were sick, and King sounded pretty concerned, so I felt a pretty high need to be present." She put her bag down and went to the bedside, where she kindly looked Queen into her visor. "On a scale of 1 to 10, how sick do you feel?"
"Beyond The Scale…" Queen groaned. "12…"
"Oh my, that doesn't sound very good. Do you mind if I check on you for a bit?"
"Please Do… I'm Highly Concerned That I Have: A Virus…"
King, who still kept perfectly quiet about his wife's pregnancy, sat down on the desk chair and kept a caring eye on Queen while she was being checked up.
Iggy draped the covers off of Queen before hoisting some gloves on and preparing her stethoscope to listen to the latter's core.
"Hmm…" the Rudinn doctor said. "I detect nothing abnormal. Just a slow beat, that's all." She hung her stethoscope back around her neck before getting a digital thermometer from her bag, which she briefly sanitised before putting it underneath Queen's armpit and waiting for a few seconds. "No fever either. That's good."
"Phew Then This Can't Be A Virus After All…"
"Are all viruses of your species paired with fevers, if I may ask?"
"My Mother Told Me That At Least… Also Our Species Don't Have Fevers But: Overheated Cores…"
"Ah, thanks. I can still learn a thing or two from you despite already having graduated." Iggy put the thermometer away and gently sat down on the edge of Queen's bed. "Can you describe how sick you feel? What exact symptoms are you currently experiencing?"
"I'm Very Nauseous All Of A Sudden…"
"What was one of the last things you ate yesterday?"
"The Same As: You. And Yet You're Not Sick…"
"And everyone else isn't sick either. Hmm… any chance you're allergic to anything?"
"No."
"I see." Iggy briefly checked the contents of the bucket near the bed. "Nothing abnormal to see here either, which I think is only a good thing." She turned back to Queen and laid her hand onto the latter's exposed shoulder. "Have you done anything unusual lately? Did you go outside? Maybe you spoke to someone who happened to be a little sick?"
"Nope Nothing."
"You didn't even have intercourse recently?! Oh my goodness, my apologies for overreacting like this, my Queen…"
"Well Yes I Did But-"
"Okay, the next question may sound a bit invasive, and to you as well, my King."
Well, King thought to himself while he nodded in response to Iggy's statement, the biggest secret kept within the walls of Card Castle lately will no longer be a secret after all soon…
"Any chance you're pregnant?"
"Yes" Queen replied.
"For how long?"
"Three Months Ago King And I: Made Love I Mean Had Intercourse. About A Week Later A Test Confirmed That I'm Indeed Pregnant."
"Okay, so three months. You see, when someone is approximately three months pregnant, there is a large chance that they are nauseous by then, which mainly occurs during the morning, which is why it's usually referred to as morning sickness. I think you have your first case of it, unfortunately. If you take it as easily as possible, you'll feel better later today, and this goes for all of the subsequent days as well."
"Ugh Help I'm Not Feeling Up To Being Sick Every Morning…"
"In most of the cases, it won't last for the rest of your pregnancy, fortunately. One of the most given tips is indeed to drink as much as possible and to have something light like crackers at your bedside as well. Sadly, I don't happen to have these in my bag, but I do have something else." Iggy got off of the bed and swapped her stethoscope for a bottle of some sort of gel and an audio monitor.
"What's that?" King asked upon seeing the device.
"It's an audio monitor to detect if the baby has a heartbeat or not, and if so, if it's similar to yours or Queen's."
"So if we hear a gentle beating sound without a computer-fan-like sound in the background soon, the baby is a spadeling?"
"Correct."
"You got me very curious now."
"Ooh I'm Pretty Excited To Find Out Too" Queen said, a smile finally managing to make its way onto her face. Her visor showed two star icons while she spoke, expressing excitement.
"In all honesty, so am I" the Rudinn doctor said, "since this is the first actual pregnancy I'm experiencing here. Now, hold still while I apply the accurate amount of ultrasound gel on you, alright?" She opened the cap of the bottle of gel and applied a dose as large as the average chickpea on Queen's chest and stomach areas.
The cyber monarch couldn't help but giggle a little.
"It tickles, doesn't it?"
"A Little." Queen briefly grabbed her tumbler and had quite some water to quench her suddenly increased thirst. "There That's A Bit Better."
"Alright. Now, let me just start this little device up…" Iggy put the bottle of gel back into her bag and subsequently turned the audio monitor on. "As the two of you might still know, I always test it beforehand, so don't mind me listening to Queen's core again…" She carefully placed the sound receiver of the device on Queen's chest area, where her core beat was heard again. "Nice, it still works accurately. I'm pleased." She then couldn't help but chuckle a little nervously. "Now, are the two of you ready to hear whether the baby is a spadeling or of the computer-related species?"
"Yes Doctor."
"Yes, doc" King replied.
"Alright, here goes nothing." Iggy, while taking a few deep breaths, carefully replaced the audio monitor onto the cyber monarch's stomach area…
The monitor revealed a sound that sounded like a regular heartbeat. It had the fast pace of the average baby heartbeat.
"Congratulations, it's a spadeling…!"
"Thank you kindly" King said with a sincere smile and nod, secretly being very pleased that his offspring was now officially confirmed to get the next spot in his line of coronation.
"That's Amazing" Queen said, not being able to help but cry a few happy tears, "Thank You."
"Would the two of you also want to plan a revelation of the baby's sex soon?" Iggy asked.
"No Thank You, I'd Like To Be: Surprised. What About You Kingy Wingy?"
King simply nodded while not being able to help but chuckle excitedly.
"So you'd like to know their sex once they're born?"
"Yes. Either Is Fine By Me But A Female Spadeling Does Sound Interesting Somewhere."
"Alright, I'll make sure to write that down." Iggy cleaned the sound receiver of her audio monitor, turned it off, put it away, subsequently cleaned Queen's chest and stomach areas and lastly grabbed her pen and notebook from her bag.
"Oh Kingy Wingy I'm So Excited…!"
"I'm just as excited as you, Queenie Beanie" King said with a now more excited smile. "Say, do you mind if I tell the rest of my peers that we're expecting? Later today, perhaps?"
"Of Course Not For I'm Planning To Tell My Own Peers About This As Well."
"Nice. Feels good to agree on stuff again since this doesn't occur often anymore."
"Ha Ha Ha I Feel The Same Way." While Queen chuckled, her visor showed the text 'haha', fittingly enough.
Meanwhile, Iggy finished taking her notes, put her pen and notebook back into her bag and took it back along with her, as well as the aforementioned sick bucket.
"My King and Queen" she said, "thank you very much for calling me here and taking your time to let me check on Queen. I'm only very pleased with those positive results."
"No Problem At All Doctor I'm Just As Pleased."
"No problem" King said. "I'm also pleased that Queen is doing fine otherwise."
"You two, stay healthy and have a nice day, alright?" With a sincere bow, the Rudinn doctor was off, closing the door of the bedroom behind her once again.
"See, sweetheart? All turned out to be fine in the end. I think we're both equally relieved about that."
"Oh Absolutely Dearie." Queen smiled, grabbed King's hand and gently kissed its back.
"Should I ask Rouxls to get you some crackers and other bland, light foods, whether he likes to do so or not? You must be pretty hungry by now."
"You Bet Your Sweet Circuits I Am."
King smiled back at his wife, kissed her cheeks for a few times and briefly went off to Rouxls.
