It registered when Karmen smiled next to her.
"It was Numel you were after all along," she said, her voice echoing her own disbelief as she sunk to the ground. Karmen's smile of triumph made Mia feel hollow inside, as if she'd sold her own soul to the devil.
As the woman she'd called 'friend' walked away, Mia surveyed the damage she'd done. Not one life, but two, laid waste before her. They had not been hers to take.
