Disclaimer ~ I do not own the Avengers

Prompt: Gift ideas for Rocket

Peter could have sworn he had his phone on silent when he entered his school that morning. He remembered physically moving the button to switch modes and making sure he got the notification for it as well. Peter was even willing to bet money on it, that's how confident he was. But he obviously would have lost that bet, since it was his phone ringing loudly and interrupting the lesson Mr. Harrington was trying to teach.

"Go on Peter. Answer it," Mr. Harrington said, looking at Peter expectantly. Peter didn't recognize the number but he answered it on the off chance that it was someone he knew on a borrowed phone. Though considering Peter only knew his classmates, Aunt May, and the avengers he really hoped it wasn't that. He'd much rather it be a simple case of "whoops wrong number" than an avenger calling him. His secret identity would be exposed faster than Peter could say "Hello" if that was the case.

"Hello?" Peter asked cautiously. No sounds of fighting. So far so good.

"I am Groot," Peter heard the caller say and he instantly relaxed.

"Hey Groot! You're on speaker so fair warning," Peter said. He was glad he was fluent in Groot, mostly in thanks to Thor and the Guardians for teaching him. That meant he was the only one who understood what Groot was saying. He didn't have to worry about any of his classmates hearing something they shouldn't.

"I am Groot?"

"Basically it's so my classmates can hear what we're saying. I'm in school right now."

"I am Groot?"

"School is where Terran kids and teenagers go to learn new things."

"I am Groot."

"It's not too bad. Pretty boring most days though."

"I am Groot."

"Nah it's fine. Don't worry about it. So what'd you call for?"

"I am Groot."

"Rocket's birthday is coming up? I'll have to think of something to get him."

"I am Groot."

"Oh that's why you called! You need ideas."

"I am Groot."

"Yeah I'll help. But why ask me? Wouldn't someone on the ship with you be better?"

"I am Groot."

"Good point. Hmm. Why not make him something?"

"I am Groot."

"It doesn't have to be anything fancy or high tech. From what I know about Rocket, he'd be happy with whatever you gave him."

"I am Groot."

"How about a card? That's what I did for Uncle Ben when I was little."

"I am Groot."

"Great! Do you want to come by the tower later so we can work on it? I can ask Happy if he'd stop at a craft store so I can get us supplies."

"I am Groot?"

"Of course I'm going to help you Groot. We're friends."

"I am Groot."

"Love you too buddy. Sorry, the bell's about to ring so I need to hang up."

"I am Groot."

"No problem! I'll see you later!" Peter ended the call and made sure his phone was on silent again before shoving it in his pocket. He refused to make eye contact with anyone, instead staring at the clock and willing it to move faster. The sooner the bell rang, the sooner he could escape the questioning looks his classmates were giving him.

So I tried for about 3 hours to find something to write. Nada. My mind was empty. Then I get home and write this chapter in 30 minutes. Though part of that was because this was such an easy chapter to write. I didn't have much that needed rewritten, and Groot is the easiest character to dialogue for.

I actually finished this chapter last night before going to bed, but I decided to hold off posting until morning, since I didn't want to go hunt down my computer so I could post it.

I hope the other chapters are as easy to write as this one was. Regardless, I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! I'll see you for the next update! Please Follow, Favorite, and Review!
