Thomas J opened the door and helped us out. We went into the house, as Harry curled up in my side, Esme started crying. "I'll get her a bottle." Thomas J said, as he got the bottle, while I got lunch. "Here you go sweetie, Lunch is served." I sat the food on the table, while Esme continued crying. "Awe, here let me try." I took her into my arms, and fed her the bottle. "It's alright baby…" Thomas J frowned and said "Eat up buddy." I looked to him, as we ate our lunch. "Hey Vada, Can you help me with my homework?" Thomas J took Esme as I sat beside Harry, and said "What question did you need help with?" "This one… Isn't necessarily a question… It says 'Write an…'" "'...Essay about someone close to you that you admire…' well who do you want to write about?" Harry said "You. My big sister." I said "Wait really?"Why me?""

"Because you're the best big sister ever. You've been there for me, ever since I was a baby… You showed me what love is. You're not only my sister, but my mom now too… I admire you more than you could ever know." I smiled and helped him with his essay, and as he finished I kissed his head lovingly, before I said "Hey. Look at me. No matter what happens, I'm always going to be your big sister first and foremost. I've loved you as my brother longer. I'll do anything for you." Harry hugged me tight, and said "Thanks Vada!" I smiled, as the phone rang, and caused Esme to cry. "I got her Vada!" Thomas J called from upstairs, while I answered the phone. "Sennett residence, Vada speaking… Arthur! Yeah, we're Okay… for now… But I need your help… What do you mean it's too hard for you!? Yeah, fine… You can come… See you in 15." I hung up as Thomas J brought Esme down, "Shit… Vada are you Okay?" Thomas J asked. "Don't use that language in front of the kids." I scolded. "Harry, why don't you go play for a bit before dinner?" He smiled and ran off to play while Thomas J sat Esme, in a bassinet beside the couch. "What's this?" Thomas J picked up the essay, before reading it. "My Best big sister and bonus mom I could ever have?" I smiled and said "Harry's essay." I sat it with his school stuff. "We have to go back tomorrow…" I said "I know… How much longer till Summer?" Thomas J wrapped a pair of arms around me, as he said "2 more months." "And we're done for good?" I asked. "Yes, we are." Just then there was a knock on the door.

I went and opened it. "Arthur! Come in. Let's talk…" Arthur entered, and we sat on the couch and chairs. "So how do you want to proceed?" I said "Well we need you to do the embalming process…" "I can't! Not on them!" I said "AND YOU THINK I WANT TO DO ANY OF THIS?!" Esme's cries, sent me walking over and picking her up, and going to Harry's room. The second Harry saw my face, he ran over hugging me and Esme close. "It's Okay." He said, before Thomas J poked his head in. "Vada?" I looked over to him and said "I'm sorry… I need a few minutes…" "Arthur finally agreed… to you know…" My eyes met his. "And agreed to keep working with us, and even said he'd run the funeral home, while we were at school." I said "H…" Thomas J smirked and said "I think when you got so upset, it gave him a slap across the face, without a physical slap." I smiled a bit. "We'll be down in a minute… I"m not feeling well…" "Take your time love." He kissed my head, as he and Harry went down. I took a few deep breaths before I joined them. "Vada, I'm sorry… I know, you don't want this happening any more than I don't. Let me take care of everything, and We'll get through this… As a family." I hugged Arthur. "Thank you…"

Over the next few days we got the funeral all set, and celebrated the lives of my dad and Shelly. Harry screamed, and cried, which shattered me, to the point where I joined, him. Esme, was calm, and Thomas J, held us securely in his arms. It was Thursday now, I had just exited the classroom, and headed to my locker. "Hey look it's the slut of Madison High!" I heard the guys whisper, as I opened my locker and put my books inside. One of the guys from my class I had just finished, approached me. "Hey beautiful." I wanted to vomit. "Mmm, You should take that top off, it looks like you're sweating…" He said, as he tried to slide his hand under my shirt, which is when I threw a punch to his face. "OW you bitch." "What is going on here?!" The principle yelled, as he came over. "Vada punch Reed!" The bystanders said together. "For No reason!" Reed said, rubbing his jaw. "Yeah I'm sure every girl in this place, would just love being felt up, by a sleazy skirt chaser like yourself." I turned to walk away, but turned right into Thomas J's waiting arms. "Caught you." He whispered. I instantly felt calm, inhaling his scent deeply. "Vada! We have a no fighting policy!" The principle scolded.

"SO WHAT!? I SHOULD JUST LET HIM TEAR OFF MY CLOTHES AND HAVE HIS WAY WITH ME ON SCHOOL GROUNDS?! NO, THANK YOU!" I shouted back, as Thomas J, rubbed my shoulders in a comforting motion. "Another incident like this, and you are done here." I didn't even look to Thomas J, before I said "That won't be necessary. Because after today, I'm dropping out. I'm 17, and legally can do so." "Why wait!? Why not go now?" Thomas J's arms tightened around me, protectively linking his fingers on my stomach, as if to protect the child growing within. "IF my WIFE wants to finish the day, then let her!" Thomas J spoke up, for the first time since saying he caught me. "Fine!" The crowd dispersed, as I started sobbing uncontrollably into Thomas J's chest, He said nothing just held me against his chest, rocking us gently, letting me sob. "Feeling better?" He asked after 15 minutes, when I had calmed. "I guess. Come on… We should get to lunch…" We went to the cafeteria, and sat at one end of the table, while Thomas J handed some food to me. "Thanks." I ate silently, until Thomas J said "I'll be right back." Before getting up, and stepping away. Little did I know that I was going to regret letting him leave.

"ARE YOU VADA?!" A woman's angry voice shouted. I looked up startled, and said "Um, maybe." "Yeah Mom, That's her." Reed's voice said, causing me to stand, But as I did, Reed's mother, slapped me right across my face, causing me to lose my balance. "WHAT THE FUCK!" I shouted, as I braced my fall, before ultimately landing on my side. I kicked my purse over bracing it against my stomach, prepared for any other attacks. Between Reed and his mom, I got kicked and beat in front of the school, no one came to help. By the time Thomas J returned, I was sobbing once more on the ground. "Vada!" He knelt beside me, as I looked up weakly. "Oh sweetheart… What happe… Oh, god… Okay DOn't talk, Come on…" He helped me up, and used his body to help stabilize me. "Tell me. Did Reed and his mother do this?" I nodded, leaning closer. "Where did they kick you?" He asked looking at me, as I gestured to every other part of my body, skipping the stomach. "Did you guard your stomach to protect the baby?" I nodded. "Good… Let's get you to the principles' office. "What is it now?" The principle said annoyed. "IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL A NO VIOLENCE AND NO FIGHTING POLICY!?" Thomas J shouted, as he carefully gestured to my beaten form, before sitting me down. "MR. Sennett, those are from tripping and falling!" Thomas J frowned, and said "NO! Reed and his mother attacked her!" "They came through already and said in an act of defense they fought her when she attacked them!" Thomas J stared in disbelief. He glanced at me, before saying "I'm dropping out too! We're both done here as of now!" He turned and helped me out to his car, not even waiting for a reply.

"I'm so sorry baby." He said once he got in. I gave him a hand squeeze and a smile. A sign from me that I forgive him. He drove to the doctors, before helping me into the office. "Hi, Vada. Thomas J. What can I do for you today?" "Vada's sick and injured…" The receptionist took one look and said "Go have a seat. I'll see if he can see you." We sat close. "He'll see you." The receptionist called, as I stood weakly. Thomas J's arms were around my waist instantly as we entered the exam room. "Hop on up to the exam table." Dr. Wealty instructed. I looked to Thomas J, as he lifted me up and laid me down on the table, as Dr. Wealty turned and looked to us. "What happened?" I looked to Thomas J, tears in my eyes. "A former fellow student and his mother, beat her apparently while I had stepped out. She was trying to make it through the day, since after an incident before, made her drop out… But then this happened. I thought it was best to leave earlier than initially planned. She's also pregnant…" Dr. Wealty examined me, before listening to the stomach. "Good news, the baby is perfectly healthy. Heart rate is a little low, but still in a range we like, it's probably low due to the amount of injuries on Vada." Thomas J said "What can we do to get it up?" Dr. Wealty smiled and said "Increase fluids, and lots of rest. Lean on Thomas J, or walls if you need to move around for a day or two. If you find you're still struggling, to move around, speak, or the baby's heart rate still is slower than normal, go to the emergency room." We nodded, and went to the store, where Thomas J picked up a bunch of first aid supplies, and a stethoscope, before coming back to the car. "Sorry it took so long." He said putting the bags in the back seat before driving to the day care, where Esme was.
