Prompt: Steve's getting Peter after school
Oddly enough, Peter went a whole three days before he received another phone call in class. Admittedly, two of those days were the weekend, but Peter counted them anyway.
"You seem to be popular today Mr. Parker," Mr. Harrington said, raising an eyebrow. Peter groaned.
"Believe me sir, I wish I wasn't," he replied, pulling out his phone. Peter sighed and then answered the call. "Hey, you're on speaker."
"Hey kid. I was just calling to let you know that I'll be picking you up from school today," Steve's voice came through the line. Peter glanced at the caller ID. Yep. Brooklyn Grandpa. Honestly Peter really needed to start looking at who was calling before he answered. At least then he'd have some idea of what to expect.
"Guess I can't blame you for calling then. Poor fossil still hasn't figured out texting," Peter teased. He could practically feel the eye roll Steve just did.
"I'll show you a fossil when we hit the mats later," Steve growled. Peter laughed.
"Sorry. Aunt Nat promised me twenty bucks if I made a joke about your age."
"I should have known. You're normally too innocent to say things like that."
"Not really. I sass Tony all the time. Just ask Karen."
"Why am I not surprised?"
"Because your old age has brought infinite wisdom?"
"What did I do to deserve this utter slander?" Steve mock gasped like the drama queen he was.
"Existed."
"Jeash kid. Does Tony know you're like this?"
"Of course he does. He's the one who corrupted me."
"I'll have to have a talk with him when we get back to the tower," Steve muttered, too quietly for Peter class to hear.
"Speaking of, why are you getting me today? Not that I mind or anything! I'm just curious because Happy is usually the one who picks me up."
"Happy was in a wreck so Tony asked me to get you instead," Steve explained. Peter felt his blood run cold.
"WHAT?!" Peter yelped in shock.
"No no no! He's fine! Just a couple scrapes and bruises, I promise."
"Is this revenge? I call you old so you give me a heart attack?" Peter asked. He held a hand over his chest in a feeble attempt to calm his racing heartbeat.
"Sorry kid," Steve actually sounded apologetic. Even if Peter had been mad, all of his irritation would have left him immediately.
"It's alright. Just promise not to drop a bombshell on me out of nowhere again and we're good," Peter said. Steve chuckled.
"Promise. Scout's honor."
"I know for a fact you weren't a scout but I'll let it slide this time."
"Thanks. Anyway, I've held up your class long enough. Take care kid."
"See you in a few hours Grandpa," Peter said cheekily.
"Brat."
"You love me."
"Unfortunately. See you soon Peter," with that final goodbye, Steve hung up.
Classes passed by slowly but finally the final bell rang, signaling the freedom of the students. Peter had walked out of the building, taken one look at Steve's "disguise", and promptly rolled his eyes.
"A hat and sunglasses does not miraculously change your appearance," Peter said by way of greeting.
"It's worked so far," Steve replied with a shrug. "When it stops working is when I'll change it."
"You really are an old man."
Whoo! I finished it! Now I just need to post it and then leave for work. Then I get to figure out what to work on next after I go to my dentist appointment. That's…gonna SUCK. I need to get a filling in one of my teeth, so there's $200+ dollars gone. The sucky part is, payday is tomorrow. Not today.
Oh well. I'll survive. I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter as well! I'll see you all for the next update! Please Follow, Favorite, and Review!
