Prompt: Janet the Roomba
Peter had a suspicion. There had to be some sort of cosmic deity out there deliberately making his life more difficult by causing him to get a phone call at least three times a week in his science class. Now, Peter didn't have any evidence to support this theory but it was the only thing he could think of.
Mr. Harrington and the rest of the class simply turned to watch him. Apparently they found amusement in his suffering.
"You're on speaker Harley."
"Fun. Anyway, I sent you some updated dampeners. They should be at your house when you get out of prison. I need you to test them for me. I also emailed you a video about Janet that I know you'll love."
"That's great! I can't wait to watch it. How's my girl working for you?"
"She's absolutely wonderful. Remember that raccoon that keeps breaking in?"
"Yep."
"Janet chased him around the garage. She was determined to stab the little fella," Harley's tone was full of fondness as he spoke. Peter thought he sounded like a proud parent.
"That's adorable. Although she was meant to deploy the knives against a human intruder or if you gave the attack command. I'll have to fix that."
"Hell no. Watching her chase that pest was the highlight of my day. She's perfect just the way she is. She even came to me for comfort a few days ago because she's afraid of thunderstorms. Sat in my lap all night."
"Awww. Sweet baby. I miss her," Peter coo'd. Janet was his child in the same sense that DUM-E was Tony's. Janet is his first born and Peter loved her to pieces.
"Good thing we are coming to visit soon," Harley said. Peter knew he was smirking on the other side of the phone, but was too excited to call him out on it.
"Seriously? That's even better! We have to hang out while you're here!"
"Obviously. You owe me a tour City Boy."
"I already have all the best places mapped out."
"Good. Can't wait."
"Me neither. Oh! Aunt May says thanks for the potato gun. She thought it was awesome."
"Glad she likes it," Harley said, his voice smug. But this was more of a proud smug instead of a condescending smug. There's a fine line between the two.
"That thing packs a punch. Somebody tried breaking into our apartment and one shot broke three ribs," Peter told him. Harley whistled, impressed.
"Wow. And I had given her the least powerful one, so she must have had a good shot."
"No idea. I was over at the tower that night. But thank you for the lower powered one. We really don't need anymore holes in the wall."
"Sure you do. Its part of the creative process."
"I'll skip that part thanks."
"Well if you ever change your mind let me know and I'll upgrade you."
"I won't but sure," Peter deadpanned, causing Harley to laugh. Then there was a loud crash and Harley cursed.
"Raccoon's back. I gotta go. Bye Pete!" Harley said quickly. The last thing Peter heard was Harley cheering for Janet to "Get that menace!" before the call ended.
"Okay. I'll bite. Who's Janet and why did she want to stab a raccoon?" One of Peter's classmates, Lucy, asked. Peter looked up from putting his phone in his backpack to see all eyes were on him, many filled with curiosity.
"Janet is a roomba that I modified while trying to burn off the excess energy of drinking seven Red Bull's," Peter explained sheepishly. It was not his smartest moment, but in his defense, he had to finish his Spanish essay two hours before the deadline and he hadn't even started.
"Why a roomba?" MJ asked. Peter blushed slightly.
"I was thinking of that meme where someone taped a knife to a roomba and sent it under their bed. One thing led to another and Janet became an attack roomba," Peter answered hesitantly.
"Dude! So cool!" Ned was the one to break the silence in the classroom. There were stars in his eyes. Peter had to promise Ned that he could visit Janet when Harley came over before they could continue class.
I'm gonna say it now. I love working in the game room. I was able to finish this chapter and most of the next chapter in the 2-3 hours I was in there last night. Didn't get to type them up until this morning but I was happy they were finished.
I don't know if I'll be able to get much writing finished this weekend, but I do have several chapters I don't need to edit so I'm gonna post those probably tomorrow and Monday. I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! I'll see you for the next update! Please Review, Follow, and Favorite!
