Disclaimer ~ I do not own the Avengers
Prompt: I have a message for you
Peter had made a mistake. He thought, today of all days, that he would be lucky enough not to receive a phone call. Or that if he did, he could just send it to voicemail.
See, the academic decathlon team was on a field trip. Nothing learning based or anything like normal field trips. They were getting breakfast at a diner near Midtown as a reward for winning their competition last night, which secured them a spot in the semifinals.
By all logic, Peter's phone should not have rang. Firstly, he quadrupled checked to make sure the device was on silent. Then he messaged the Avengers group chat that he wouldn't be near his phone during this time. That was likely where Peter's mistake was. Asking the various avengers not to call him was practically inviting them to do the opposite.
He had declined six calls without bothering to see who was calling. As soon as Peter felt his phone start to vibrate, he sent them to voicemail. Everyone who had his number knew to leave a voicemail if it was important or to just text him instead. As neither happened, Peter deemed the calls unimportant.
Needless to say, Peter almost choked on his pancake when Karen's voice suddenly sounded from his pocket.
"Hello Peter. I have been trying to reach you," Karen said as Peter hurried to pull his phone from his pocket. Ned and MJ, who were sitting at the same table as Peter, watched on with matching grins.
"K-Karen? You're the one who's been calling?"
"Yes Peter. As you did not answer, I took the liberty of answering the call myself. I have a message to you from Mr. Stank," Karen said. If an A.I. could sound unrepentant, she managed it. Peter sighed, defeated. Of course this was Tony's doing.
"What's the message?"
"Mr. Stank has asked me to tell you," here Karen's voice changed to that of Tony's. "Underoos! It's your turn to pick the movie tonight but if we're watching another Star Wars, I'm gonna revolt." Karen's voice returned to her normal one. "That is the end of the message."
"That's what he wanted to tell me so badly? He couldn't just wait until later?" Peter asked incredulously. Although honestly, Peter wasn't surprised. That was a very Tony type of thing to do.
"Yes Peter. Would you like me to send a reply?"
"No thanks Karen. Oh actually! Can you ask if I can invite Ned and MJ?"
"Mr. Stank says you may," Karen replied. Peter raised an eyebrow.
"What did he actually say, Karen?"
"Yeah yeah sure. Underoos can invite Ted and the tiny Pepper over. I thought they were coming anyway," Karen's voice once again switched to Tony's as she relayed the message.
"Thanks Karen. You're the best."
"You are welcome Peter. Have a good day at school," with that, Karen ended the call. Peter checked to make sure his phone was still set to silent before he groaned. One day. Why was it so hard to get one day? At least this time it wasn't during class.
A brand new chapter! Not a rewrite! The owner of the theatre I work at was there and I didn't want to risk being on my phone. I was in the game room, which shouldn't have been a problem for me to be on my phone, but I wasn't going to chance it. Especially because at one point he wondered if I was asleep because I was writing in my notebook and sitting very still.
So I actually finished this on Sunday, but I didn't get it posted until now. I think I got sick on Sunday, since I had a headache and sore throat all day. Yesterday, I decided to play it safe and not go to my sister in law's house, where I babysit my niece. I still had a sore throat but it's a lot better than Sunday. Other than that, I feel mostly fine. A little bit tired but since I didn't go to work I got to take naps. That was nice. One of my cats even came and slept with me. Unfortunately, this is pretty common for me around this time of year. My colds aren't usually anything major, just annoying. I wouldn't have taken off work if it weren't for being worried of getting the baby sick.
Today, Tuesday (as I am writing this note Monday night) November 23rd, is my niece's first birthday! We're having a party for her after her Mom gets off work. She had to take off to watch Alena since I couldn't. I'm not gonna miss my baby's first b-day for nothing. Even if I have to wear a mask the whole party, I'm going. I've been watching that baby five days a week since February. She's a turd but she's my turd.
Okay! That's enough of that. If I don't stop myself now I'm going to talk your ears off about the squirt. I don't know when my next update will be, since this week is looking to be fairly busy, but I'm going to write whenever I can. If nothing else, I do still have a few chapters I'm content with that I can post whenever, so I'm not too worried.
I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! Please Follow, Favorite, and Review! I'll see you all on the next update!
