Peter just wanted to get through the school day without interruptions. The sooner class let out, the sooner he could do Spiderman things or go to the lab with Tony. Instead, he gets spammed with phone calls in the middle of class. Classes where "The Rule" is strictly enforced. If you get a call you must answer it. On Speaker. Part of the Itsy Bitsy Spider series.

11. Spam Risk

Prompt: Spam Caller

Peter knew he shouldn't answer this call. The caller ID flat out came up as Spam Risk, and everybody knows that if you answer one of those, it's an invitation to get a hundred more of them. But honestly? Peter was feeling petty. And annoyed. This was the ninth spam call today, and it was getting on his nerves. It was barely third period! So Peter decided to answer the call this time. He had a plan.

"Midtown Mortuary! You stab em, we slab em. How can I assist you today?" Peter asked in a fake cheerful voice. The classic Customer Service voice. His classmates watched on, most of them trying to suppress their own laughter. Everyone was getting sick of the constant interruptions thanks to the scammers. Peter wasn't the only on in the class who had been receiving the neverending calls this week. Honestly, it was a miracle any lessons were able to be taught.

The person on the other line was silent. Then there was a quiet "Wrong number" muttered before the call disconnected. Peter put his phone away, satisfied. Meanwhile his classmates lost the battle of restraining their amusement.

"I am so using that line next time I get a spam call," Abe announced to the room. He received many nods of agreement.

So yeah. Super short but there wasn't much I could think of for this prompt anyway. I found that Mortuary thing on pintrest once, and I thought it was kinda funny. I've never actually said it, since I just decline all calls that aren't in my contacts, but it's been very tempting sometimes.

One time, I legit did get like ten spam calls a day for a week. The only break being the weekend. I was super annoyed because I was trying to calm down my niece, who was crying, when I got the call. I answered it, put it on speaker, and held it up to the crying baby for a minute before I hung up. It was oddly satisfying.
