Prompt: I need a babysitter
Peter loved Fridays. Friday meant a half day of school. It also signaled the beginning of the weekend, which Peter would spend at the tower. Today he even had permission to take Ned with him, making Peter even more excited.
Another reason Peter loved Fridays was that the teachers weren't likely to start something new. They usually watched videos or had a study hall. His science class with Mr. Harrington was one such class doing the study hall, or a free period to most of the students.
Peter and Ned were working on their homework so they didn't have to do it later, when Peter's phone rang. By this point, Peter's classmates were starting to look forward to his weird phone calls. Peter was pretty sure there was a betting pool or two going around too. One about when he'd get the next call and one about who was calling. There might even be one about the topic of the call, but Peter wasn't sure on that one.
"Hey Scott," Peter greeted after checking the ID and putting the call on speaker.
"Hey Peter. Are you busy right now?"
"Sort of. I'm in class."
"Oh shit. Sorry. I completely forgot about that," Scott said. He sounded anxious, which put Peter on edge.
"What's wrong?" Peter asked. Secret identity be damned, if his friend needed help then Peter wouldn't hesitate to jump out the window and start swinging over to him.
"Nothing bad! I just need someone to watch Cassie for a few days while Hope and I go on a business trip with Hank. Her mom is on vacation with her husband. The trip was last minute so I didn't have any time to find a babysitter. I'm in a bit of a bind," Scott explained. Peter let out a sigh of relief. His friend was safe, and his secret identity lived another day.
"If you are able to wait an hour, I'll be out of school and can watch her," Peter offered. Cassie was an easy kid to take care of and Peter's watched her a few times before.
"Are you sure? I don't want to make you change your plans," Scott said. Peter shot a questioning look at Ned, who smiled and shook his head in return.
"My only plans were to build legos with Ned. He said he doesn't mind if Cassie joins us."
"Tell Ned I am super grateful," Scott said. The whole class could tell how relieved the man was.
"You're welcome Mr. Lang!" Ned called out. Peter chuckled.
"Yeah, you're on speaker. It's a classroom rule," he explained.
"Makes sense. Sorry about that again kid. But seriously. Thank you so much. You just saved my skin."
"It's no problem Scott. Really. Where do you want me to get her?"
"I can drop her off at your school if that works for you?"
"Yeah that's fine. What about Leggy?"
"He's coming with us on the trip," Scott answered. Peter was grateful for that. As much as he loved Leggy, it would be hard to explain a dog-sized ant on a leash walking around New York.
"Coolio. If there's anything I need to know, just text me."
"Can do! Thanks again Peter."
"Anytime," Peter said before hanging up. Now that the entertainment was over, everyone returned to what that had been doing. Peter thought he saw someone handing Cindy a few dollars, but he wasn't certain.
"She like legos?" Ned asked as the two of them returned to their homework.
"Loves them. You two will get along great," Peter said back.
Sunday evening, Scott picked Cassie up from the tower and paid Peter for babysitting, despite the teen repeatedly telling him that it wasn't necessary. Peter thought he had won that argument until he found three hundred dollars slipped into his backpack a few hours later, along with a note from Cassie saying she had fun.
Funny story. I was texting my friend and I asked her what I should work on. She said something Greek, referring to Percy Jackson. I have three fics I can work on for that, and I was fully on board to work on one of them. I opened my notebook and saw this chapter, which was only the first two-three paragraph written. "Obviously I need to finish this first" I thought and did just that. And then I did not work on anything else that night and went to bed. But at least I finished this chapter.
I genuinely have no idea what I am going to work on next but more than likely it'll be either this fic, or something PJO. I'm actually afraid of two of my three PJO fics, as one of them is estimated to be over a hundred chapters and the other is over six hundred chapters. The six hundred chapter fic is NOT going to be posted until I've finished at least five chapters on it though. It's a reading the series fic, so I want to get some chapters built up before I start posting it.
I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! I'll see you all for the next update! Please Review, Follow, and Favorite!
