Chp. 5: Surprising Beginnings

Police Station

Inside the city's police station, Jacket and Jesse were locked inside two separate cells that were next to each other. The two boys were silently sitting on their beds for a long time until Jacket broke the silence.

"So what the hell was all that back there about me supposedly running someone over?" Jacket asked.

"You should know after all," Jesse coldly answered.

"And what makes you think it was me?" Jacket asked.

"You were driving the exact same car that ran her over," Jesse answered.

"Just because I was driving that car, doesn't mean that I was the one who ran over your friend," Jacket retorted.

"Yeah, I'm sure you didn't," Jesse sarcastically said.

"Okay. Question; when did your friend get run over?" Jacket asked.

"During the attacks," Jesse answered.

"Look, I wasn't the one who was driving the car at the time. My friend... or my ex friend, Cy was the one who was driving at the time. So he was the one who must have rammed her with the car," Jacket said.

"Sounds like you have had one hell of a day," Jesse said.

"You don't know the half of it," Jacket said.

"I'm Jesse," Jesse introduced himself.

"Call me Jacket," Jacket introduced himself in response.

"I'm sorry I lashed out at you back at the gas station," Jesse said.

"It's cool. You're not the only one who is upset with my ex-homie," Jacket said.

"What happened?" Jesse asked.

"That motherfucker first left me behind to die to those Nazi fucks, then takes my girl while I find out she had been cheating on me with him and a bunch of other dudes, and finally, Cy had his guys try to shoot at me! After all we've been through together, this is how he repays me? I swear when I get out of here, that n**** and my bitch whore ex girlfriend are fucked!" Jacket explained.

"Sounds like a real asshole," Jesse said.

"He is. When I find him, I'm gonna bash his skull in," Jacket said.

"Got room for one more?" Jesse asked.

Jacket was a little surprised to hear Jesse's question. After a couple moments of thought, he gave his answer.

"Sure. But there are some things you gotta know. But before I tell you, we've gotta get out of here first," Jacket said.

"And how are we gonna do that?" Jesse asked.

Suddenly, they both heard an explosion coming from outside. A police officer with a panicked look on his face was running down the hallway. Another explosion shook the building, causing the officer to hit his head against the wall, and fall to the floor unconscious in front of Jesse's cell door. Jesse noticed a set of keys on the police officer's belt. He stared at the keys for a moment before he approached the cell door.

Jesse knelt down and struck her arm out through the bars of the cell door. He reached his arm over to the police officer and grabbed the keys from the officer's belt. With the keys in his hand, Jesse retracts his arm and stands up. After going through a few keys, Jesse finally unlocks the cell door and opens it. He steps out of his cell and steps towards Jacket's cell. After going through a couple more keys, Jesse unlocks the cell door and opens it. Jacket then walks out of his cell.

"Now let's get out of here," Jacket said.

The two boys started to run down the hallway. Another explosion shook the build, staggering Jacket and Jesse for a moment before continuing down the hall. They soon came across an emergency exit door. Jacket opens the door and he and Jesse quickly run out the door. They ran up the alleyway and upon reaching the end of the alleyway, they immediately stopped upon seeing what was going on.

They saw a large group of heavily armed and armored police officers and SWAT troopers in a shootout with three white Merlot Androids. One of the androids fired a grenade at one of the police cruisers, which then exploded a few seconds later.

"My God," Jacket muttered under his breath.

"Come on. we can't stay here. We can stay at a motel for the night," Jesse said.

Jacket and Jesse ran down the sidewalk and away from the shootout between the police officers and SWAT troopers, and the androids.

Heart O' Chicago Motel

Later at the motel, Jacket and Jesse were in their hotel room, laying on their beds exhausted.

"So what now?" Jesse asked.

"If my car is still at the gas station, we can get my weapons inside it, find Cy, and get some payback," Jacket explained.

"That's it? That sounds a little too straight forward," Jesse said.

"Maybe. But sometimes that's how it goes for us," Jacket said.

"By the way, you said you have weapons in your car. What kind exactly?" Jesse asked.

"Bats, brass knuckles, knives, a couple machetes, and some guns," Jacket answered.

"Wait what?! What are you? Some sort of gang member?" Jesse asked.

"Yes," Jacket bluntly answered.

"WHAAAAT?!" Jesse asked in shock.

"Will you keep it down? People are trying to sleep, man," Jacket said.

"Gang member?! Are you serious?!" Jesse asked in a hushed voice.

"I just told you, yes. The reason why Cy turned on me and tried to kill me was because he got jealous that our boss was gonna have me lead my own gang and Cy was gonna be second fiddle," Jacket explained.

"When this is over, I want nothing more to do with you," Jesse sighed in frustration.

"Fine with me. I couldn't care less on whatever you plan to do next," Jacket said. "By the way, what's with the way you're dressed? You look like one of those mobsters from the 1920s."

"It looks cool," Jesse said.

"Yeah, during the Prohibition era," Jacket said.

"Whatever," Jesse said.

June 11, 2020

Later the next day, Jacket and Jesse were walking down the sidewalk, making their way to Jacket's car at the gas station. Eventually, they made it to the gas station and saw Jacket's car still parked in front of the shop.

"Good. It's still there," Jacket sighed in relief.

The two boys ran straight towards the car. Once they got to the car, Jacket opened the trunk and he and Jesse saw what was inside. A couple of machetes, a couple of metal baseball bats, a few knives, a pair of brass knuckles, a Mossberg 590M Shockwave 12 Gauge Mag-Fed Pump Action shotgun, two MAC-10 submachine guns with suppressors, a few pistols, and lots of ammunition for each gun inside.

"Whoa," Jesse muttered with a stunned look on his face.

"Nice ain't it? You'll get somewhere with babies like these," Jacket said. "The shotgun is mine though. So don't touch it."

"Fine, I guess," Jesse said.

Suddenly without warning, the environment around Jesse and Jacket began to shake and everything around them began to glow. The light soon engulfed everything for a short moment until it soon died down. The two boys were shocked and confused as to what had occurred.

"What was that?" Jacket asked.

"I have no idea," Jesse answered.

Suddenly, a car drove around the corner, catching Jesse and Jacket's attention. Jacket gained a terrified look on his face upon seeing the car. Just before the two boys could do anything, a man peered himself out of the car's passenger window with a machine gun. The gunner opened fire upon Jacket and Jesse as the two collapsed on the pavement. The car drove away and left their victims for dead. But as soon as the car was gone, Jesse and Jacket slowly sat up from the ground groaning in pain. They were both shocked and confused upon finding themselves fine.

"Uhhhh... How are we..." Jesse trailed off and Jacket cut in.

"Yeah. How are we alive and not full of holes? I felt those bullets hit me," he said.

They both looked down at themselves and found their bodies briefly glowing for a moment before it soon stopped.

"What the hell is this, man?" Jesse said.
