Chp. 7: Bullets and Beatings
Police Station
June 30, 2020
Back at the Police Station two and a half weeks from now, Jesse and Jacket were both sitting in the interrogation room with the man behind the one way window still continuing to interrogate the two boys.
"So when you discovered you two have unlocked your aura, decided to test the limits of your aura before you two went after Cy?" the man asked.
"Yes. But before we did that, Jacket decided to teach me how to use a gun since I've never even laid a finger on one before," Jesse answered.
"You were a poor fuck shot at first, but in the end, you got a good shot," Jacket said to Jesse.
"May you please continue?" the man asked.
"Yeah, yeah," Jesse answered. "So back to where we were, Jacket drove us up near Lake Michigan to teach me how to shoot."
Lake Michigan
June 12, 2020
Two and a half weeks earlier at the shore of Lake Michigan right next to the border of the state of Indiana, Jesse and Jacket were going through Jacket's guns inside the trunk of his Mustang. Jacket grabs one of the pistols from the trunk.
"We'll start you off with a pistol," Jacket said.
Jacket presents the pistol to Jesse as he takes it out of his hand. Jacket then took an empty ammo clip with one hand and several bullets from out of a small box with the other. He starts loading the bullets inside the clip.
"Now your gun should already be loaded. I've set up some cans and bottles up for you to shoot at for practice," Jacket said.
He points up ahead of him and Jesse. Jesse turned to see some soda cans and glass bottles several feet away from him and Jacket. Some were set up on the ground and others were set up on wooden posts.
"Take the safety off that's on the side of the gun and try to shoot at one of those cans on one of those posts," Jacket instructed as he finished loading the clip in his hand.
Jesse turned the safety on the pistol off and aimed the gun at the first can on the post. He took a deep breath and after a short moment of silence, Jesse pulled the trigger, firing his gun. The can was not knocked over. Jesse had missed.
"Try again," Jacket said.
Jesse aimed his pistol at the can again and a moment later, he fired another shot. The can wasn't knocked over, and he realized he had missed again.
"Try it again," Jacket said.
Jesse aimed his pistol at the soda can once more and fired, but once again missed. He lowered his gun, groaning in annoyance.
"N****, that was a piss poor shot," Jacket said, shaking his head as he tried not to laugh.
"Then let's see you try to do it, smart ass!" Jesse said.
Jacket grabs the pistol out of Jesse's hand. He aims the gun at the can and fires a shot, knocking the can over. Jacket looks over at Jesse with a smug look on his face.
"Show off," Jesse muttered as he snatched the pistol out of Jacket's hand.
Jesse aims the pistol at a glass bottle that was set on the ground. A moment later, Jesse fired a shot from the gun and the bottle shattered upon impact. Jesse lowered his gun.
"Finally! You hit something!" Jacket said, throwing out his hands.
"About damn time," Jesse said.
"Right. Now go for that soda can over there," Jacket said, pointing at another soda can placed on top of another wooden post.
Jesse points his gun at the can and tries to take careful aim. A short moment later, Jesse fires the gun and knocks the can off the post. Jesse lowered his gun and smirked in satisfaction.
"Nice shot there," Jacket said.
"Well, it's a start," Jesse said.
"Let's try something different." Jacket said.
A few minutes later, Jacket had set up a row of soda cans and glass bottles on top of a large pile of gravel. Jacket walks up to Jesse with one of the two MAC-10 submachine guns. He presents the machine gun to Jesse as he takes it.
"Now this is what I want you to do. I want you to shoot and knock over all of the cans and bottles that I have set up in one go," Jacket instructed.
Jesse points the machine gun at the cans and bottles. After a moment had passed, he began to open fire. The shots knocked over several cans and shattered several bottles. The gun stopped firing and clicked, indicating that it ran out of ammunition. Jacket and Jesse looked over at the gravel pile and saw that only three soda cans and two glass bottles wear all that is left.
"Not bad. I think you're a lot better with a machine gun than a pistol," Jacket said.
"I think so too. I have a better chance at hitting something with a machine gun," Jesse said.
"Now let's do something else," Jacket said as he took the gun out of Jesse's hand.
"What?" Jesse asked.
Jacket sets the gun on the ground. Before Jesse was about to speak, Jacket hurled a punch to his face. Jesse staggers back a few steps and looks back at Jacket as he rubbed his cheek.
"What the fuck was that for?!" he angrily asked.
"You're gonna have to learn to take some punches as well as give 'em. At some point, some n**** is gonna want to throw down with you. So it's best to be prepared than be a dead motherfucker," Jacket explained.
"Well, you could have given me a heads up warning," Jesse said.
"I didn't have to," Jacket said as he hurled another punch to Jesse's face.
Jesse rubbed his cheek and after a short pause, he threw a punch to Jacket's cheek right back at him. Jacket slowly turned his head back to face Jesse with a smirk on his face.
"Not bad. But you need more power in your punches," Jacket said as she then hurled a punch at Jesse's cheek knocking him to the ground.
Jesse slowly gets up from the ground and gives Jacket an uppercut. Jacket stumbled back and fell to the ground. He got up from the ground and stared at Jesse for a moment before speaking.
"Better. Much better," he said.
Jesse and Jacket then started punching back and forth at each other.
A half an hour later, Jesse and Jacket were both completely exhausted from the beatings they gave each other. They both stepped inside the Mustang with Jacket taking the driver's side and Jesse sitting in the passenger side.
"Let's get back to the motel. I'm tired," Jacket said as he started the car.
"Yeah. I'm beat," Jesse said.
Jacket set the gear and drove the car away. A mile away, a man was standing on the rooftop of a building, looking through a pair of binoculars watching the Mustang drive off.
"The boss may want to know about this," the man said.
