Fifth chapter of Back From Death! I hope you enjoy!
Lincoln floated around on Royal Woods skies. From there, the people looked so small, The fresh air on his face was so nice. It was amazing the sensation of flying. Looking from above, he saw many places that he frequented. The city mall, Flip's Food Fuel, Gus' Games and Grubs, the school. He stopped when he saw his home. He floated down to the front porch, and placed one hand in the door handle. But hesitated.
They would be able to see him, right? What would they think if they saw him? They would be happy? Or horrified? They would embrace him, or run from him. He sighed, and phased through the door, he saw Lily and Leni laughing at the cartoon on the tv. He went to the backyard and saw Lynn playing soccer. Then, he went upstairs, all doors were closed, walking down the corridor he heard something coming from Lola's room, and decided to pick, and saw Luan and Lola having a tea party. With a smile, he leaved them enjoying their party.
As he were going back downstairs, she heard Lucy talking in the attic. He went to the flip door to the attic and reached to the string, and opened the door. Then, he poke his head on the attic, searching for Lucy, and saw her looking at his direction, or he assumed, it was hard to say with her bangs over her eyes.
"Who's there?" she said with a gulp.
"It's just me Luce, I just wanted to see what you were doing." He said with a small smile.
Lucy don't responded, just putted the portrait of great-grandmother Harriet she had on hands back inside the chest.
"Oh, right, I'm a ghost." Said Lincoln to himself. He climbed down the stair, soon after, Lucy poke her head down on the corridor, she also climbed down the stair. Lincoln did a pat on her head, and phased through the floor, falling to the first floor.
There, he saw Lana walking back inside the house, covered in dirt after a mud bath. He chuckled at his filthy sister. Then, he saw what was in hend. One of Lincoln's shirts.
"Hey Lana, why you're with my shirt?" Asked Lincoln, Lana just passed Lincoln in direction of the kitchen. "Oh, right." Then, he heard barks coming from behind him.
When he turned, he saw Charlie barking at him. "Oh, Boy! It's me! Lincoln!" the boy said, crouching, Charlie slowly approached the ghost boy, and sniffed his hands. Recognizing his owner, Charlie barked happily, letting himself being petted. "Good boy! You can see me! That's awesome!" with a meow, Cliff appeared from behind a flower pot. Purring, he rubbed his head against Lincoln's arm
"You too Cliff? That's so cool!" Lincoln cheered also petting behind Lincoln's ears.
Suddenly, Luna got downstairs to get something to eat, and saw Charlie and Cliff in a corner of the room, looking to the wall.
"What you two are doing there?" She said, catching the attention of the three.
Lincoln got on his feet and got closer to Luna, who was still looking at the two pets, and hugged her. A chill got on Luna's spine, then, a warm sensation, like something had embraced her.
For some reason, Lincoln got in her mind, and tears started to form under her eyes. It was a oddly good sensation. After some seconds, Lincoln released Luna, who stood there, sobbing.
"I'm sorry Luna..."
That night, Lincoln went to his bedroom to have some sleep. He thought it was weird that he even could sleep, but hey, he was breathing and had a pulse. He leyed on his Bed, the comfort was astonishing, after having to sleep on his own grave, this was like sleeping on a cloud. When he was drifting to sleep, he heard the squeak of the door, he sitted on the bed, rubbing his eyes.
"Lynn?" What are you doing here?" The sport sister didn't responded, just got on the bedroom, and quietly closed her door behind her.
Them, he sitted on the bed and rubbed his sheets. With sorrow, in his eyes, Lincoln understood what was happening. When Lynn, he was right behind her on the bed. Lincoln heard the sister starting to sob. It was heartbreaking that. His tough, brave, strong sister like that. So fragile, because of him.
"Lincoln..." Lynn whispered between her sobs. Not being able to see that anymore, he placed one of his hands on her shoulder. With a flinch, she looked at the direction Lincoln was. Sniffing again, she placed her head back on the pillow, and Lincoln played beside her, hugging her. Lincoln observed his sister, starting to stroke her long, brown hair
Some minutes later, Lynn started to snore. Signal the she was fully asleep. Lincoln stood there, it was still hard to sleep with her snores. He looked at her. She shifted the side on the sleep, now facing Lincoln. Lincoln observed her face, he could see that Lynn hadn't a good sleep night for a while. He smiled.
"Lincoln..." she muttered on her sleep. Lincoln blushed a little, and closed his eyes, finally, falling asleep.
In the morning, Lincoln woke and Lynn wasn't at the bed. The house was almost silent, the only thing he could hear was the sound of a sewing machine, that Lincoln dedused was Leni.
He phased through the floor, he floated around the rhouse, searching for others habitants, but only Leno was on the house. "They are out? What do I do..." he scratched his chin, suddenly, he felt his stomach rumbling. "I need to eat?" he said to himself.
He floated to the kitchen and opened the fridge. "Hum... Oh! Sauerkraut! I'll do a sandwich!" And he did, a sauerkraut and peanut butter sandwich. When he bited the sandwich, he felt like he haven't eated for a eternity. He eated the sandwich like a cougar would eated his freshly killed prey.
Lincoln then, realized how weird was the fact he can eat. Well, he was a ghost, having the ability to eat wasn't the most unbelievable thing on his mind.
Siting in the sofa, he reflected about his situation. He wasn't dead, right? He didn't felt dead. He had heartbeating, he was breathing, he was able to feel the wind in his face when was floating around, he could eat and sleep! Things that you'd think only living being could do.
But at the same time, no one except his pets and Reaper could see or hear him. He was able to go through walls, float, and who know what more.
"Maybe I'm just overthinking it." He said, gotting of the couch, and went upstairs. He peaked on Leni, she was still sewing. The small smile on her lips was reconforting for Lincoln. He thought it was a signal that she was starting to overcome his death.
He went down the corridor and opened the door to his room. He realized that he used With the noisy crack that the door made, he realized that he opened manually the door, maybe it was a residual reflection. He heard other door opening behind him, he looked behind and saw Leni with a frightened look
He realized that he may be scared her, shifted his eyes down. He had no way to apologize. When Leni went closer to close the door, he decided to just hug her. Leni quivered a little, and Lincoln released her, noticing that he scared her again. "Sorry Leni..." He whispered.
Later that day, after the rest of the family arrived home, Lincoln decided to just stay at his room, not bothering no one. He was reading one his old Ace Savvy, halloween special issue, telling the history of when Ace Savvy encountered the spirit of a former deseased ally. Well, he thought it was convenient that he pulled that issue out of the bin. Then, he heard Lola shouting on the corridor. "LANA! WHERE'S MY DOLL?"
"I DON'T KNOW LOLA! I DON'T TAKE IT!" Her twin shouted back. "WHY DO YOU WANT IT ANYWAY?"
"I WANT IT FOR A TEA PARTY!" Responded the little princess.
"YOU SEARCHED IN THE OTHER ROOMS?" Said the tomboy twin.
"NO, THANKS FOR THE ADVISE!" Lola shouted back.
Lincoln peaked through the door and saw Lola going from room to room searching for her doll. Wanting to help, Lincoln floated through the rooms and found the doll lost behind Lola's wardrobe. He picked the doll and decided to help the sister to set the tea party, he placed the doll in one of the little chairs, placed the plastic tea set on the table. He waited some time to Lola come back to the Room.
When she came, she looked surprised and chocked. Before Lincoln went back to his room, he gave her a pat on the head, giving a chill on her spine.
Some hours later, everyone was already on bed, Lincoln was going to his room, when he saw Lana coming out of the bathroom with one of his shirts.
Curious, he followed his sister into the bedroom and watched her getting ready for bed. When she lay down to sleep, Lincoln noticed that she was still holding his shirt. She held the shirt like Lily held her blanket. She still haven't moved on with his death
Feeling sorrow for her, he sat on the edge of the bed and cuddled her hair, looking her sleep. Well, he thought she was asleep. She was fully awake, feeling something cuddling her hair, but for some reason, she wasn't freaking out, the sensation she felt was like the times her older siblings put her to sleep and stayed until nshe was asleep. Soon enough, she was.
The next day, he overheard on the breakfast Luan was going to practice her routine on her room. Lincoln was excited to hear his sister's routine for the first time since he was back. He waited in her bedroom for her.
While alone, he looked around the sister room, it was as always, messy, with Luna's instruments and Luan's comedy props around the floor. But what got his attention was the calendar in the wall. Normally, the calendar was filled with Luan's gigs at comedy clubs or birthday parties. But, all appointments were cancelled.
Lincoln frowned. He knew why she would cancel her gigs. He sighed as Luan entered the room. Lincoln stood there, looking to his sister, thinking how she was feeling. Maybe she was doing ok? Like, she was restarting to practice his comedy routine, right?
When Luan started to practice the jokes, he couldn't do nothing but laugh. Different from her puns, the jokes she make were always comedy gold, in fact, he was so occupied laughing, he didn't noticed how creeped Luan was, she was listening someone laughing, like someone was in the front of her. But no one but her was there.
On the afternoon, he was floating on the living room, watching TV with his sister's. Well of course they didn't know that he was there, but he liked passing time with them. While watching an rerun of ARGGH! The sister commented about Lisa's Nobel they would go to the ceremony in the next week.
Impressed about her achievement, he went to Lisa's room. He knew Lisa had an journal that she noted everything that happened to her, like a diary. When he found it, the ghost boy looked through the last days that were notes. He stopped on the last day he remembered before waking in that coffin. With a chill in his neck, he started reading.
April 22 - 9:35
- My older blood related sibling Lincoln passed out while practicing the competitive sport know as soccer with my other older blood related sibling Lynn. When Lynn came through the door shouting about Lincoln, we thought that she accidentally kicked a ball on his face and was out. But that though was gone when we saw him contorting on the ground. Our parent units called the first aid unit of the local hospital and they took Lincoln with them, Our feminine parental unit went with the ambulance, and our masculine parental unit it's currently driving behind the ambulance.
Lincoln felt a sting in his head, dropping the book. He remembered him contorting on the ground. It was very painfull, like your nerves were contracting almost to the point of snapping. His memory still was cloudy, but he remembered being put on an ambulance
When he was going to pick the journal again, he heard the door opening. It was Lisa, who looked at the opened Boom at her desk that she clearly remembered having but on the drawer. As she was picking the book, Lincoln exit the room, floating to his room and laying on his bed. He would wake, only the next morning.
When he woke, he still felt his head aching. "Man... I really need something to eat..." he said, phasing through the bed to the first floor. He saw his sisters, minus Lori, were at table eating breakfast. He sneakily opened the fridge and got the sauerkraut and with na eye at the door, he made a sandwich and heated alone floating on the kitchen.
At the table, the sisters were quiet, eating their toasts and egg. Realizing Lori was absent, Luna questioned. "Were's Lori?"
"She's still in bed." Answered Leni. "She was awake until like, 3 am talking with Bobby." That got the attention of Lincoln, who floated closer to the doorway to the dining room, still holding his half eaten sandwich.
"It's cool to see her coming back to her old self." Said Luna drinking her orange juice. With the corner of her eye, she saw a floating sandwich, with the shock, she spat her drink on Lynn's face.
"WHAT THE HELL!" Said Lynn glaring Luna.
"Sorry sis, I... choked." Apologized Luna, looking in the direction of the doorway. Now empty.
Lincoln and his sandwich went upstairs to see Lori. Before he could enter his sister's room, he finished the sandwich and knocked at the door.
"Go away!" Said Lori. From her tone, she might been crying. Lincoln was about to knock again, but remembered he's a ghost, and slowly inside Lori and Leni's room. Lincoln looked cautiously, he didn't want to make an awkward situation. But Lori was still on bed. Her eyes were red, and her ruined mascara made clear to Lincoln she were really crying.
"I hope you're not Crying about me Lori..." He whispered with a frown. He couldn't do much right now to help her, so, he just sat at his side know the bed, and cuddled her hair
Lori flinched at the instant she felt something touching her hair, and quickly got up scared.
"I'm so sorry Lori!" Said Lincoln apologizing. But Lori said nothing, just looked at her bed, heavy breathing. She shook her head and sat at the dressing table and started to remove the make up she forgot to remove before bed. Lincoln stood behind her, looking her removing and reapplying the make up. He sighed and got out of the room.
The next few days were rather similar to the last 3 days. With Lincoln looking around to check her sisters and unconsciously scaring them. When the family was gone for work and school, Lincoln stayed at home. It was cool that he didn't needed to go to school, so he just did what he used to do when alone, like reading comics in his underwear, playing video games and reading comics. But after some days, it got old. Being stuck in home sucked.
Wait, but he wasn't stuck there. He was free to go to anywhere he wanted. With a smile, he got out of the house and flew through the skies of Royal Woods, looking for some place he could gat some fun.
He locked his gaze on Gus' Games and Grubs and flew down there. He went in through the roof directly to the arcade section of the restaurant, and for the next 5 or so hours he played the games. Some costumers were really freaked that the games were playing themselves, but Lincoln didn't care, he was having so much fun!
When he was flying back home, he saw Clyde's house and decided to check his best friend. He flew down to the porch not the house and knocked at the door. Some seconds later, Howard answered the door. "Hello?"
"Hi Mr. McBride! Is Clyde-" Howard closed the door of Lincoln's face. "Oh, right, ghost." Lincoln just floated through the door and went to Clyde's room.
The little McBride was there. He had arrived from school a few hours ago and had already finished his homework. Normally he used to spend the rest of his day talking to Lincoln. But now he no longer had his best friend to talk to. He was lying in bed, looking at his cell phone. He had a frown on the face, and deep bags under his eyes.
Lincoln sighed and sat at the edge of his bed. "Hi Clyde." He said, without expecting an answer. "It's cool to see you bro." He heard a meow, Cleopawtra entered the room and was staring Lincoln.
"Oh, hi Cleo." Said Clyde, looking at his cat. "What are you staring at?" he looked at the direction of Lincoln and back to Cleo.
The cat started hissing. That startled Clyde a little. Cleopawtra never did something like that. He already saw videos of cats staring at walls on the internet but never saw in person.
Cleopawtra jumped at Lincoln, starting to scratch him. "OUCH! OUH! CLEO GET OUT OF ME!" Clyde stood there in shock, looking his cat clawing the air like crazy. "ENOUGH!" Lincoln shouted, Clyde and Cleo flew, like some strong wind suddenly blowed onto the room. Clyde hugged Cleo in shock, staring to the direction of Lincoln. With heavy breaths Lincoln just flew away, out of the house.
After some seconds of silence. Clyde whispered. "Was that Lincoln?"
As Lincoln flew back to his home, the night sky started to close. A storm was approaching. He landed on a park, and sat on a bench, still with heavy breath. What was that? He just yelled at a cat and it flew away? He could have hurted Cleo.
"Hello Lincoln." Said Reaper, sitting on the bench, beside Lincoln. Who, diffently than usually he do, didn't get jumpscared. With a thunder, the sky started to fall, raining.
"Hey Reaper." He replyed.
"How you're doing?"
"I don't know. What was that at Clyde's house?" Questioned Lincoln.
"That was a poutergeist." Replyed Reaper.
"Poutergeist? I thought that thing was a kind of ghost."
"Nope, when a ghost gets agitated, he make a poutergeist. Normally things fly like a strong wind hit them, or things just fly up." Explained.
"You could have said about that sooner."
"Sorry, but that's so many rules and things to explain that somethings get through the cracks."
"Ok."
"So... How are your sisters?" Asked Reaper.
"Most of them are moving on. But it's still hard." Replyed.
"No, how they reacted to you being back?"
"I still haven't been able to appear for them. I try to interact with them, but I just end up scaring them." Lincoln spoke lowering his head.
"Man, that's harsh." Commented Reaper, scratching his chin. "well, they already know something is going on."
"What?" Said Lincoln confused.
"In this exact moment, they are having a sibling meeting about the weird things happening on the house." Explained Reaper.
"So, they really are freaked out." The frown of Lincoln'sface deepened.
"Come on Linc boy! When they discover that it's you, they'll be very happy!" Said Reaper trying to cheer up the boy.
"I hope." Said Lincoln.
"Look boy, I need to go, there you be a rock slide on Sri Lanka that'll take the life of 14 people, I need to get their souls. Bye." Reaper patted the back of Lincoln and vanished.
Lincoln stayed at the bench, observing the rain pouring at the park. He sighed and floated back home. He stopped at the front yard and observed the window to Lori and Leni's room. He could see someone looking to him back. Then, a flash of light came from the direction, he protected his eyes, as the light got away.
He flew to the window, and saw Lori preparing to go to bed, he sighed, as he placed his hand on the window.
The next day, Lincoln was in this room, ans at the license ng room, Lori was at the couch, texting some friends, when her phone ringed. She smiled a little as she answered the call.
"Oh Boo-boo bear! What a surprise!" Said Lori.
"Hi babe. How are you doing?" Said bobby at the other end of the call.
"Well... I'm a little better, but I still miss Lincoln." Responded Lori making a frown.
"Me too babe, I know he was like a little bro to me." Said Bobby.
"I know Bobby. Well, how are Ronnie Anne?" Lori asked.
"She's still feeling bad. Anyway how's thing there?" Asked Bobby.
"Weird to be honest. Some strange things have happened recently." Answered Lori.
"How weird?" Asked Bobby.
"Well, we thing it may be a ghost." Replyed Lori.
"A ghost?" Repeated Bobby.
"Yeah..."
"Hum... Hey, I have an Idea!" Said Bobby cheerfully, getting a "What" from Lori.
"Abuela once told me that she used to do seances when she was young. We can have you a visit and do one!"
"Do a what?" said Lori without understanding.
"Seance! Ya know, we could try to communicate with that ghost and ask why he's haunting you!" Explained Bobby.
"Oh! Well that's literally a great idea!" Said Lori.
"Cool! I'll talk to Abuela to ask if she accept to do a seance on your place! I'm going, love ya! Bye!"
"Bye." Said Lori ending the call. So Bobby was coming. She wondered if he would ring Ronnie Anne along.
