Ronnie Anne was different these days. She had stopped going out to skate, or going out with Sid. She no longer made fun of and got into fights at school. Even without knowing the reason, the teachers were relieved, and normally the family would also be very happy with the girl's behavior. But the family was concerned. On Friday, almost a week after this change in behavior, Sid, worried about her friend, decided to visit the Casagrande apartment.
"Hello Mrs. Casagrande! Is Ronnie Anne home? I really need to see if she's ok." Said Did as Rosa answered the door.
"Oh, Our Mija is felling bad these couple days. Some... Things happened and all were very shocked when we received that phone call... And Ronalda is still in shock." Said Rosa as Sid entered the apartment. She frowned a eyebrow. What was she talking about? "Ronalda is in her bedroom dear." Said Rosa.
Sid passed on the living room, meeting with Frida and Carlota at the couch.
"Hola Sid! It's always a pleasure to see you!" Said Frida as Sid walked in.
"Hello Mrs. Frida, Carlota... Is everything all right?" Asked Sid.
"More or less dear. Ronnie Anne's behavior these days were sad to see, to say the least." Replyed Frida. Frowning at Ronnie Anne's room. "But it's understandable, it was a tragedy, nobody could predict what happened to him, pobresito ..." A chill got on the kid' spine.
"You're right mom. He was too young." Said Carlota. Another chill.
"Ok... I will see Ronnie Anne." Said Sid, tooking short and slow steps towards Ronnie Anne bedroom. When she arrived at the door. She knocked it.
"Go away Bobby. I don't wanna talk." Said Ronnie Anne behind the door.
"It's me Ronnie Anne." Spoke Sid. Some seconds passed when Ronnie Anne replyed.
"Enter." Sid Entered the room and closed the door behind her. Ronnie Anne was at bed, looking at her phone.
"Hey..." Sid sat at the edge of the bed.
"Hey..."
"How are you Ronnie?" Asked Sid.
"I'm fine..." Ronnie Anne replyed.
"No you're not! Ronnie, you're not like yourself! And for what your grandma and aunt said to me, there's something very bad going on!" Ronnie Anne looked at her friend, and spoke dryly.
"Lincoln's dead." Sid fell from the bed when she heard that.
"W-what?" Said getting on her feet.
"Lincoln! Lincoln Loud! He died!" Shouted Ronnie Annie
"... I... Don't... What... When?"
"What happened?" Asked Sid. Ronnie Anne sighed.
"It all started a month ago..." Ronnie Anne started to remember as she told her tale to Sid.
It was a Wednesday night. Ronnie Anne had just arrived home after hanging out with her friends, Sid included. She was at her room, watching skate fails in youtube when her laptop started to buzz. It was a video call from Lincoln.
"Sup Lame-O!" saluted Ronnie Anne.
"-Cough- Hi Ronnie -Cough- Anne..." Said Lincoln
"Wow Lincoln, you don't look too good." The tomboy pointed. In fact, Lincoln was pale, his hair was messed, eyes were red, and the bags under Lincoln's eyes were more noticeable as ever.
"Yeah Ronnie... -Cough- Look... I'll go straight to the point. I -Cough- Don't want to see you anymore." Said Lincoln weakly.
"What? Why?"
"Look Ronnie Anne. -Cough- It's the best for both of us..."
"Best of both of us? Lincoln we haven't anything anymore! Just friends remember?"
"Yes -Cough- I know Ronnie... But I don't want to hurt you... And if we keep seeing each other, even as friends... You'll suffer."
"Lincoln, If I can't see you, I'll get hurt anyway!" Said Ronnie Anne starting to feel anger.
"Not as much if we keep seeing." Said Lincoln before starting to cough uncontrollably.
"At least say why Lame-O!" said the girl, but Lincoln was still coughing to his hand. Untill he stopped and looked at his hand.
"Ronnie Anne... I'm sorry... But it'll be best. Good bye." Said Lincoln.
"Wait! Don't end now! You will explain why! Stop! Don't go! Or I swear I'll beat you up when I see you again!" Said Ronnie Anne shaking his fist to the camera. But Lincoln just sighed and ended the call.
Ronnie Anne could feel the anger and sadness filling her. "YOU IDIOT!" She screamed with anger, and proceeded to putting her head on a pillow to scream more.
Bobby entered the room to check the screams. "What's up Lil sis?" He asked.
"It's that dumbass of Lincoln!" She said, removing her head from the pillow, revealing watery eyes. "He said to me he don't wanted to see me anymore!"
"What?" Bobby replyed surprised. "Why? He told ya?"
"No! He just said it was best for us, and left! No satisfactions, just a good bye!"
"That's weird, lil bro don't usually do that." Said Bobby.
"Oh, but he I'll see, if he don't want to see me, so I won't even bother! And if I ever see him personally again, I'll beat him!"
"Wow sis, chill. Probably there's a good explanation to that." Said Bobby trying to calm down his sister.
"I don't care! I don't want to see him again in life!"
"Wow, that's harsh. Look, I'll still talk to Lori, maybe she know something. Bye sis." Bobby left the room.
"Never in life anymore..." Said Ronnie Anne to herself.
Days passed and the anger Ronnie Anne felt for Lincoln grow larger. It went to the point that she couldn't even hear the Loud name without become anoyed. Ronnie Anne didn't wanted to see him even painted in gold. And Bobby haven't got anything from Lori. She didn't text him for the past week, Bobby started to became worried that something happened to his girlfriend, because she always texted him back.
Two weeks later, on a Friday, Ronnie Anne was doing her homework. And doing her homework I mean by her doodling on the text book. Most of her doodles were Lincoln having some kind of accident, like being hit by a car, or having piano drop on him.
She really hated Lincoln at that point. She didn't wanted both to do with the white haired Loud. Even if he tried to apologize, she will not forgive him.
She heard the phone ringing from the living room. On there, Bobby was the one who answered.
"Casagrande residence, Bobby speaking." Said Bobby with a formal tone.
"Bo-bby..." It was the voice of Lori coming from the other side, she was crying.
"Babe! What happened to you? Why'd you didn't respond my messages?"
"Bobby... Lincoln... Lincoln died." That was everything Lori said before staring to cry again. Bobby dropped the phone I chock. Everyone of the Casagrandes looked to Bobby, his eyes were wide and starting to water up.
"What is Roberto?" Asked Hector.
"Lincoln... Died." Everyone but carlitos's jaws dropped.
"W-what do you mean Mijo?" Asked Maria, as Bobby picked up the phone.
"Lori?" the sobs of the eldest Loud child decreased a little.
"Lincoln passed away some hour ago Bobby. We're inviting you all to the funeral."
"Wha... What... Ok... Thanks... I'll tell everyone, bye, and... I'm sorry." Bobby hung up the phone and looked at his family who was at the peak of their nerves to listen to what Bobby heard.
"Lincoln passed away some hour ago... Lori invited us to the funeral." Said Bobby.
"Lincoln what?" Said Ronnie Anne, looking to his brother with shock in her eyes.
Everyone stood quiet. Looking to Ronnie Anne, who's eyes started to water up. They knew who she and Lincoln were close, and knew about their fight.
"W-what do y-you s-aid about Li-ncoln?" Stutered the tomboy. But everyone stood still. Everyone at the room, even Carl and CJ, to some extent, knew about death. But the kids haven't experienced that yet. Maria was the first to approach her child.
"Ronalda. Look. There's somethings in life..." she kneeled to her daughter's eye level. "That we can't predict. And..." She couldn't finish. She started to tear up too. Hector approached his daughter and granddaughter.
"Death is one of them dear." Hector placed one his hands on Ronnie Anne arms.
"No..." Ronnie Anne backed away. "NO!" she runned back to her room and slammed the door shut, then threw herself in bed, starting to cry.
This was why he wanted to cut ties. He was sick. Very sick. Now, he was dead. She felt horrible. Not only his death, but her hatred for him in the past weeks. While she was hating him, he was suffering, while she doodles him dying, he was in his death bed. While she wished he was dead, He really was. She wanted to apologize. She wanted to apologize for what she said, for what she thought about him.
But now, it was late.
Ronnie Anne cried for what seemed hours. Until she heard a knock at the door. "Go way." Said Ronnie Anne between sobs. Maria slowly opened the door.
"Mija..."
"Mom..."
"How are you?" Asked the mother.
"Horrible mom."
"I thought you would be feeling that way."
"I'm horrible mom." Said Ronnie Anne, frowning.
"No. Why'd you would think that?" Maria sat at his daughter side at bed
"For the past weeks I started to hate him for not wanting to see me again. I said to him that when I saw him again, I was going to beat him! I said that I didn't want to see him again in life!" Ronnie Anne started to tear up again.
"Oh Mija." Maria embraced her daughter. "You didn't knew. You was hurt. You didn't meant that. Right?"
"Of course not mom! I... Just wanted to him to apologize! But... I think who needs to apologize is me..."
"Mija... Tomorrow it's the funeral. You want to go?" Asked the mother.
"Yes mom! I want to apologize... And say goodbye... Back."
"Yes mija." Maria pecked at his daughter forehead. "Now sleep. We will go to Royal Woods tomorrow."
But Ronnie Anne didn't sleep that night. She just stared at the ceiling. Wondering what happened to Lincoln. How his family was feeling? They were as bad ad she was? No, probably they were worse them her. He was family! She was only a friend. Only a friend. A friend.
When the sun rose, she heard again her door knocking. From there, the voice of Bobby came.
"Sis. Get up, time to get ready for the trip." Ronnie Anne sat on her bed. Her eyes were blood red and bags were under her eyes. Dry snot under her nose and her hair was a mess.
An hour later, Ronnie Anne was taken a bath and already was wearing her formal dress. She definitely didn't like that dress, but was not only a formal event. It was a funeral, so she accepted wear that for respect at the situation.
The trip to Royal Woods was silent. Any of the Casagrandes wanted talk, since they knew how Ronnie Anne was shaken. When they arrived at the Loud house, Lori was at the front yard she was entrusted the task of meet the Casagrandes and guide them to the Royal Woods cemetery, were the funeral was taking place.
Lori looked extremely sorrow. Her maskara was already running from the tears she was still procucing. She was wearing a long, formal black dress, and was using tissue papers to wipe her eyes.
When she embarked the van, Bobby embraced his girlfriend.
"We're all sorry Lori." He said, as Lori give Carlos, who was at wheel, directions to the cemetery. The start of the trip was silent, when Carl broke the silence.
"Lori, what happened to Lincoln?"
"Carlino!" Frida scolded her child.
"He was diagnosed with a brain tumor." Everyone looked to Lori. Ronnie lowered her head.
"A degenerative decease. Started with seizures, them he started to became weaker..." Lori started to cry again. "In his last days... He was confined at a hospital bed." Lori couldn't say nothing anymore. She just cried to Bobby's chest. Who patted her head.
"We are so sorry for Lincoln, Lori." Said Carlota.
When they arrived at the cemetery, they weren't surprised to how much people were at the boy's funeral
The Loud family was all around the coffin, all wearing black attires. They looked to Lori and the Casagrandes approaching. And went there to meet them.
"Mr. And Mrs. Loud, I talk for all of the Casagrandes that we are all very sorry for your loss." Said Hector hugging the Loud parents.
"Thank you Hector. It means a lot to you be here. Lincoln liked you all very much." Said Rita, them she looked at Ronnie Anne and completed. "Expecially you." The girl just lowered her head again and approached the coffin, leaving her family talking to the Louds.
As she was approaching the coffin, she looked around and saw everyone who attended to Lincoln's farewell. Clyde obviously was there with his dads. Liam, Zach, Rusty, Stella and girl Jordan, with their respective parents were there as well. She was surprised when she saw Mrs. Johnson and Principal Huggins along with some others students. Even Cristina and Chandler were there.
Among the people that Ronnie Anne didn't know, were Carol Pringley, Haiku, Tabby, Giggles, Polly Pain, Margo Roberts, Paula, Benny Stein, Hugh, Mrs. DiMartino, Sam Sharp and Chunk.
Ronnie Anne really amazed at the number of people at the funeral. Lincoln really leaved a impression on the town.
When she finally got close enough to the coffin to see Lincoln. She felt her legs getting wobbly. Her eyes were starting again to water up.
There he was. He didn't looked different. Not even a little. He was laying in the coffin. With his hands on his stomach. The girl sobbed.
"Hi Lame-O..." She took one of his hands. They where cold. "I'm sorry for what I said to you..." she cleaned her tears before continuing. "I didn't expected that. I'm so sorry..."She started to cry to the back of his hand.
"Here child. Here." She felt someone patting her shoulder. When she looked up, she saw someone who wasn't among the ones she looked at. He was quite tall, wore a black raincoat, his skin was paper white, and his hair was pitch black
"-Chuif- Who are you?" Asked Ronnie Anne looking back to Lincoln.
"A friend of Lincoln." The person said. "That's unfair... Right?"
"What?" Asked Ronnie Anne.
"His death." The person replyed. Ronnie Anne only nodded. She heard a sigh, and looked up, back to the person. Who vanished. She was confused, but before she could do anything, she heard her mother, to go sit on her side. The priest had arrived and the funeral was about to initiate.
After the priest pray, Luna take a step, and with her guitar, played a song that she said was a lullaby she used to play to his brother to go sleep. When the lullaby ended. Every of the Loud Children took a step to say something. They all were at very grief, and one, Lucy, barely could speak at all.
When everyone else was done. Ronnie Anne herself decided to take a step and say something.
"Lincoln was... A very important person to me. I really liked his personality... And his smile... And... Him... I really liked him... It's very hard to see him there... And worse is to think that in our last call, we fought... I am really sorry Lincoln. For what I said... Sorry... That's all... Thanks..."
Back at Ronnie Anne's room, Sid was crying, as Ronnie Anne looked at her.
"Oh Ronnie Anne... I'm so sorry! Forgive me to mekong you tell me!" said Sid cleaning her eyes.
"That's ok Sid. That's why I'm feeling down these days." Said Ronnie Anne.
"You could have told me sooner!" Said Sid sniffing.
"I... Just needed space. I'm still processing it." Ronnie Anne replyed with a frown.
"Yeah..." Sid suddenly processed something her friend had told in the tale. "Ronnie... You really meant when you said you liked him?" Ronnie Anne blushed and frowned even more.
"Yes... He was a very cool guy... And I kinda... Had a crush on him... So I started to making pranks on him." Said Ronnie Anne blushing.
"Pranks?" Repeated Sid.
"Yes... I didn't know who to express myself to him... So I decided to make him notice me that way." Said Ronnie Anne scratching her chin.
"One day, I decided to see him on the front of his house... I was expecting him to beat me... But..." Ronnie Anne blushed even further.
"What..." Said Sid with a smirk.
"He kissed me..." Ronnie Anne hid her face with her hands.
"Them? What happened?" Asked Sid.
"Them I punched his face." Replyed Ronnie Anne.
"What?"
"That's right! I was so shocked... And that's was my first reaction."
"Wow..."
"Well. After that, we became friends... And... Well... We secretly started dating..."
"Seriously?" Sid got up animated. "That's so... So... Sad." Her cheerful behave faded as she remembered Lincoln.
"Well. Before I moved, we decided to continue just friends..." Ronnie Anne gazed at her laptop on the desk. The two stood in silence for some minutes, before a sudden knock at the door scared them both.
"Enter." Said Ronnie Anne, as Bobby entered the room.
"Hey Sis, Sid." Greeted the teen.
"Bobby." Sid greeted back.
"What do you want Bobby?" Asked Ronnie Anne.
"Well sis... I was talking to Lori, and she said some weird things are happening at her place, them I talked to Abuela and she accepted to go there to make an seance... Do ya wanna go along?"
"What? You mean, go back to Royal Woods?" Said Ronnie Anne. "I don't know Bobby... I'm still-" the Tomboy was interrupted by her friend.
"Ronnie Anne, I think that's a good way to you try to move on."
"But going there without him being around..."
"She's right sis, that's a great way to you start moving on his death." Said Bobby.
"Ok Bobby... I'll go with you and Abuela. When we go?
"Tonight, you better prepare some clothes, we will spend the night there." Said Bobby before leaving the room. Sid looked at her friend.
"It'll be all right Ronnie Anne! What could go wrong?"
