Chapter 4: The Innocent Nun

"Ah… Today is the worst…" Issei said as he lazily walked to school. On his way, he fell into auto-pilot mode and accidentally bumped into someone.

It was blonde girl wearing a nun habit. Her face has an innocence Issei himself couldn't put into words.

'She's so cute…' He absentmindedly thought, etching the view into his mind. "Ah, sorry for bumping into you, are you okay?" Issei apologized, bowing his head.

"Eh? Yes? I'm sorry…" She tried to speak with her broken Japanese, unable to convey the boy in front of her the apology for bumping into him.

'Great, she doesn't know Japanese…' Issei thought. Being inept at foreign language himself, the only thing Issei could do was try with his limited English vocabulary. "Etto… Where… are you… going?" The young man asked again, slowly this time, as he tried to make sure his pronunciation was as precise as in his memories.

"Well, I, uh…" she tried to speak. The young girl didn't have time to dedicate herself to studying Japanese. Although she repeated the most basic greetings often used in conversation in her mind from time to time before coming here, her brain was currently in shutdown mode, as talking with a stranger was far more challenging than just reading words from a dictionary.

It was an awkward moment for both of them. Not wanting to intrude more than she should, the nun tried to walk away from it. Thankfully, Nao was there to mitigate the damage Issei had inadvertently caused. "Yo, Issei. Who are you talking to?" He said, waving his hand as he came over to greet the two, his other hand still holding his notes as usual.

"Oh, her? I bumped into her earlier, and she looks a bit lost." Issei returned the greeting, beckoning the young man over.

"So why are you just standing there like a lost puppy? If you want to help her, then you should do it properly!" Nao sighed, as he facepalming.

"Well, the thing is… she can't speak Japanese at all, and when I wanted to talk with her, she didn't, or couldn't, answer!" Issei said as he shrugged. 'There's nothing I could do about it,' he thought, feeling helpless.

"This is why you should actually pay attention in English class and stop thinking about boobs!" Nao scolded his underclassman.

"Well… but…" Issei fumbled with words, trying to defend himself, but failing to raise any counterpoints to what his upperclassmen has just said.

"Here, watch and learn." Nao said as he turned to face the nun. "Miss, you seem lost. Is there a place you want to visit? We could help you out."

While not speaking at native-level English, the nun clearly understood him, as she nodded her head at his words.

'I can't believe it; a stranger? Helping me? This must've been the Lord's blessing after all the trials I've faced!' The nun thought to herself. "Yes, I want to go to the abandoned church, mister…?"

"Nao. Nao Kiyoyama. It's a pleasure to meet you, miss," the young man replied.

"A-Ah… thank you, Mister Kiyayama." The young nun answered gratefully, smiling happily at the fact she made new acquaintances.

The two young man shared snickered at hearing the girl's attempt at saying Nao's family name, before he told her she could just call him 'Nao'.

But then, her stomach growled; it was really an embarrassing display for her. Her red face showed it all. Nao noticed it, then he offered her something she couldn't resist. "Well, we could take you the church. While we're at it, I'll buy you some food on the way too. How does that sound to you?"

The nun was surprised, to say the least. She couldn't believe what the stranger had offered to her. It was indeed the Lord's blessings! Nodding her head fervently, the young nun's eyes seems to sparkle at Nao. Issei, looking at the scene, couldn't help but grumble to himself about how easily his upperclassmen received favors with the cute nun.

"Yes, follow me, and I'll treat you to some rice bowl. I know a great place to get one. I usually go there whenever I have a craving, or if I'm just hungry."

Without hesitation, the nun nodded her head in agreement. She hadn't eaten in days, and she was starving. Now, a stranger was offering her food. She had no other choice but to believe it.

"Come on, Issei, let's go… Or not; you could just leave now and be on your way to school," Nao told Issei, having reverted back to Japanese to talk to his underclassmen.

Issei didn't want to leave Nao – a part of him wanted to be a good samaritan and help others in need, but the rational part in his brain really didn't really want to skip school in fear of his parents' scolding. It was a tricky dilemma for the second-year student. "No, I'll follow you, Kiyoyama-senpai."

"Do you want to follow me because you really wanted to help the poor nun, or do you just want to skip school?" Nao questioned. While he knew of Issei's motivation, it was better to ask him, anyway.

"Of course I wanted to help her! Do you think so lowly of me, Kiyoyama-senpai?" Issei asked, showing his most serious face possible.

Nao knew, but he played along with it."Fine… fine… Let's go, Issei."

Immediately, Issei put on his biggest smile and said, "Can't believe I'm getting treated by Kiyoyama-senpai to a rice bowl!"

"Who's treating you? Pay it yourself," Nao shot back, a grin on his face as he glanced behind him.

The look on Issei's face was priceless; he looked like a child having his candy stolen. "W-Why are you treating her but not me?" He asked again.

"The girl looks like she hasn't had a good meal in days, while you sounded like someone who just spent too much money on porn," Nao chuckled. Issei was too easy to read.

"But-but-but… I'm broke!" Issei exclaimed, desperately trying his best to persuade Nao, but Nao didn't budge.

"Not my problem."

"Kiyoyama-senpai!" Issei cried.

"Nope, no way. Pay for your own food."

In the end, Nao relented and paid for Issei's bowl as well. His underclassman's constant crying was too annoying for him to handle, and with a foreigner following him, it wouldn't do good for his reputation to have an annoying pervert constantly crying and begging him to buy food.

The trio arrived at the stall. While it wasn't a fancy place by any means, there were a few tables and makeshift chairs for customers to sit down. Issei and the nun sat down first while Nao was ordering food, before sitting beside the nun once he's done. Both of them chatted for a while, leaving Issei out of the conversation because Nao feared Issei might say something which would make a fool of himself… or worse, scaring the young girl with his perversion. He also heard about the tragic life inside church walls, and it was like not living at all. She explained all she had done was for the name of the Lord – to which Nao called bullshit – but he didn't have the heart to say it to her. He'd shelf that thought for another day.

'Damn, if only she knew what happened to God back in my world. God might still be alive here.' Nao thought. He hoped God hadn't died in this world, because back there, His miracle was what held Tokyo together. His death had meant all of His blessings were gone, just like what happened in Da'at.

While the others were eating their food with no worry whatsoever, Nao had a million thoughts on his mind. He pushed all his thoughts back as he didn't want to worry Issei and continued eating. When they were done, Nao was the first one to get up. "Come on, let's go now. Can't keep your host waiting."

She then got up and thanked for her meal, followed by Issei.

They continued their journey to Kuoh's abandoned church. Nao didn't really know why the nun would go there, but it was not his business to interfere with anyone's business.

Issei broke the silence by asking Nao a question. "Kiyoyama-senpai, can you speak languages other than English?"

"Well, it's hard to explain. Before becoming a nahobino, I could only speak Japanese and a little bit of English. Then, after I did, I can speak in every language I want, though I can't read those foreign languages, sadly. I think most of it is because deities need to understand what humans are saying. If they, how can they know what humans wanted? Though sometimes things get lost in translation, which didn't really result in good things."

"That's a neat ability, Kiyoyama-senpai,"

"Yeah… most of the demons whom I have to speak to use a lot of different languages. They could communicate with me, even the foreign ones like Abdi-"

"What was that, Senpai?" Issei didn't quite catch that, so he asked Nao again.

"Nevermind… I spoke too much," Nao replied to his underclassman.

Not satisfied with his answer, Issei tried to press Nao for answers. "Nao-senpai, you said the demons you have can talk in every human language, right?" Issei asked again.

"Not really; some of them can't even talk at all, while more intelligent demons have the power to converse with humans."

"Kiyoyama-senpai, do you think that Rias-senpai...?"

"What?"

"The whole talk with other languages – because she's a Devil and all, and you said demons can talk in any human languages."

"My demons surely can, but I do not know if Devils like Rias can."

"That's interesting... being a demon is cool, huh? You have supernatural strength, can zip lightning, and talk with anyone! Nao-senpai, what if I can become one?"

"No!" Nao replied while shaking his head.

"No?! What do you mean no Kiyoyama-senpai? You and that lady in red yesterday were so cool. If all Devils are that cool, it'll make me go closer to my dreams of becoming a HAREM KING! With that, I can collect girls from every part of the world without issues!" Issei loudly exclaimed while his hand made a victory pose.

"Look, Issei. I know it looks cool to be a supernatural being or a demon, but it's not worth it to throw away your humanity! I did the same to protect my friends and to protect Tokyo I knew and loved. What I got was nothing – absolutely nothing – while my friends died along the way.

"They died, Issei; they died! I don't want you to die chasing your dream! You seem like an alright guy with perverted habits, but you're not a killer, Issei! You're no killer! You're not like me! Go live your life, finish high school, get a job, get a girlfriend, get married, have kids. Don't throw your life away for some trivial dreams, Issei," Nao angrily said to Issei. He was really disappointed someone would throw away their humanity just to get women.

Issei acknowledged his points, but he disagreed with what his upperclassman had said. "Kiyoyama-senpai, I don't know you all that well, and we've just met, but what you said was wrong!"

"How?! How am I wrong?"

"You're wrong, senpai. What you suggested was cowardly! I, for one, would not let my friends die-"

Nao had enough; 'Issei wasn't there. He wasn't there to witness what had happened to Yuzuru, Dazai, and Tao. If he was there, he'd kill them too! All of his friends had undergone a tragic personality change. Demonic influences might be the main culprit.'

"Issei, do you remember that Fallen Angel yesterday?" Nao asked.

"Yes," Issei nodded.

"Demons… they're not like them. They kill humans for food; human emotions power a thing called 'magatsuhi'."

"What's that?"

"Magatsuhi is an energy pool, made from human emotions; it doesn't matter if they're dead or alive. Though humans who are alive tend to have more magatsuhi stored in them. That's why most demons would hunt humans without a second thought. They're cold-blooded and can't be trusted."

"Rias-senpai would… she would eat us?" Issei was now scared. What if the third-year red-haired woman was just putting on a face, when in actuality she wanted to eat him?! And not in a sexual way!

"I don't really know; that's why I'm really regretting it when I was unwillingly got dragged to the whole supernatural world."

"Kiyoyama-senpai… I'm regretting it too. Rias-senpai would undoubtedly eat us! What can we do? Wait, what can I do? You have your nahobino powers while I'm just a human! Kuh… life is not fair!" Issei blurted while pulling his hair out in frustration. He didn't want to die and be eaten by a Devil; he wanted to get a harem damnit!

"Alright, I think Rias also owed us some explanation. The ORC club room, after school, got it?"

"Y-Yes, sir!" Issei said while saluting.

After the two high-schoolers stopped their conversation, the nun was unsurprisingly quiet due to her not understanding what had happened between these two. It was okay, though, since being here with someone and seeing them enjoy themselves, apparently, brought her immense happiness.

They arrived at the abandoned church, and Issei had a bad feeling about it. When he looked over at Nao, he, too, had a strange feeling about that place. "Kiyoyama-senpai… i-is this the right place?" Issei asked worryingly; he didn't want the cute nun to be left in a place like this. After all, under his perverted nature, he's still a decent man.

"I think it is. Let me ask her." Nao then turned his attention to the nun and asked, "Hey, is this the place? This place doesn't seem right, you know."

She then nodded her head and said, "Yes! This is the place; thank you for bringing me here. I hoped I didn't trouble you." She then hurriedly walked to the church entrance, though sadness was plastered on all of her face. She looked like she didn't want to go there. Sadly, there's nothing they can do since Issei was only a human, and Nao didn't want a confrontation between him and the church.

"Kiyoyama-senpai, we didn't even ask her name yet."

"Shit, I forgot about that. Well, we'll meet again, and then we can ask. This is a small city, after all."

"Wait, what time is it?"

"I don't know. I'm not wearing a watch."

"Dang."

They arrived late – by about two hours – and because of that, they were asked to come to the student council room for further questioning at lunch break.

But rumors spread like wildfire; the sight of someone associating with one of the Perverted Trio would drag their reputation in shambles. Some second-year and third-year students even berated Issei for corrupting the new transfer student. Nao didn't pay them any attention since he didn't care about silly rumors and gossip.

They arrived at the student council room, where they met the current student council president, Shitori Sona.

"Ah, you must've been Kiyoyama-san I've heard Rias talk about, come in and sit please," greeted Sona. However, Issei didn't get the same treatment as he was infamously known to be a massive pervert and had been called to the room countless time. The reason they hadn't kicked him out was the school had an imbalanced ratio of both genders. But that didn't stop the student council from bringing up harsh punishments for the Trio. "Hyoudou-kun," Sona bitterly greeted him.

They sat down on the couch and faced her and Shinra Tsubaki – Kuoh's third and fourth most beautiful woman, respectively. "Hyoudou-kun, Kiyoyama-kun, welcome to the student council room. My name is President Shitori Sona, as you've might known, and next to me is Vice President Shinra Tsubaki."

"Nice to meet you, Sona-kaichou, and you too, Shinra-fukukaichou," Nao greeted back politely.

"Ah… yo, Shitori-kaichou," Issei, however, was not too polite, as he had been called there many times and was quite familiar with Sona and Tsubaki.

"Now, you know why you're here, aren't you?" Sona asked.

"Because we're both late, aren't we?" Issei asked back.

"Yes, that, but there's another fact I can't overlook. Do any of you know why I specifically called you two?" Sona interrogated.

"No." Both boys shook their heads, faking their cluelessness.

"I think you two know, because I have evidence right here. Shinra-san, hand it to me, please!"

Tsubaki merely nodded and gave her what appears to be a brown file folder containing some photos inside. Sona then threw it over at the table and showed them the photos her peerage had captured during yesterday's event.

The first was a picture of Nao, in his nahobino form, choking Dohnaseek, and Issei was standing behind him, terrified. The second one was a picture of Nao, still in his nahobino form, using his hand blade to cut Raynare's wings. The third one was a picture of Issei, Nuwa, and Nao while they were conversing.

Things were not looking good for the two of them, as they didn't utter a single word.

"Now, as you might know – or you might not know – is that yes, I am a Devil. My real name is not Shitori Sona – it's Sona Sitri. I'm the heiress of the Sitri Clan, one of the pillars of the underworld. Right now, Kuoh is in the hands of the Gremory Clan and Sitri Clan. While Rias doesn't take her job seriously as she should, I, meanwhile, take my job seriously. I don't appreciate someone barging into my territory. That means you, Kiyoyama-san."

'Sitri… Sitri… it sounds familiar, but…' Nao thought.

"Shitori-kaichou, if you knew about Kiyoyama-senpai's power then, why didn't you confront him or something?"

"I wanted to, but Rias specifically said not to interfere with you, Hyoudou-kun,"

"So… why did you call us today? Why didn't you call us yesterday? Or when I was killed?"

"Rias told me not to intervene with you. The reason we called you guys now is no human I've known can summon a Devil who can throw lightning that powerful; it was like Zeus himself threw his thunderbolt at the poor Fallen Angel. Now, I might ask Kiyoyama-san: Are you a Devil?"

Nao shook his head. He was a nahobino; he was not a demon, unlike them. "No, I'm not."

"You're not a Devil? Then how did you recruit him? The Devil who killed the fallen angel Dohnaseek."

"I… made a contract with him – it was a mutual agreement."

"Ah, so you've confirmed you have a peerage yourself."

"No, I don't have a peerage, and yes, Rias tried to recruit me into hers. I just declined. Being a Devil under her is not preferable," Nao explained. He was a nahobino, he's not a lowly demon; like them.

Tsubaki decided to cut in their conversation. "Being a Devil is not so bad, Kiyoyama kun. Yes, you need adjustment time, but the benefits outweigh the risks."

"She's right, you know? If you're part of a peerage, you can someday be promoted to a high-class Devil and have your own peerage," Sona added.

"Really, Shitori-kaichou? I can have my own peerage? Can it be full of women?" Issei asked excitedly.

"Yes, they are technically your servants, and you'll be able to do anything with them," Sona answered truthfully. She wanted the Hyoudou boy to join her peerage, and tempting him with breasts like Rias attempted to do might interest him enough to join her.

"Wow… that's really cool! Then, Shitori-kaichou, how can I be a Devil?"

"Easy, by joining a peerage. I still have room for members in my peerage. Do you want to join mine?"

Before Issei answered, the Devil with the red hair and her queen entered the student council room. "Sona… you can't do that to Issei-kun! You big meanie..." Rias pouted, not wanting her Issei taken over by her rival.

"Apologies, Rias, but it had taken you too long, so I took this opportunity to explain peerages and the benefits of reincarnating into a Devil."

"Look, I've got to get going – class starts again in a while, and I have no intention of being late again." Nao sighed as he got up from the chair to leave the student council room.

"Fufufufu, it seems Sona has disciplined Nao-kun. I wonder what did it take to discipline him like that."

Wasting no time, Nao left the student council room and headed straight to class, being the first to go.

"Issei-kun, the ORC club room after school. I'll be waiting," Rias requested.

"Yess… Gremory-san," Issei nodded as he got up too, then left the room.

"Both of them need some explaining to us, especially Kiyoyama-san; no human can just kill a Fallen Angel with ease, then summon a beast which can throw lightning like Zeus. He was something else." Sona needed Nao to be on the Devils' side, because he might be the key to the upcoming war. While the Great War might've ended, things were still heated between the three biblical factions, and the Devils might have a shot at winning if someone who possesses a power like Nao exists. She will have to wait and see.

The school bell rang, indicating class had ended. Students can be seen walking out of schools – some went to the arcades, some stayed behind for club activities, while the rest went home. Nao decided not to come to the ORC club room straight away; rather, he took a stroll to clear his thoughts for a while.

'Damn, I had been too careless and lazy. My carelessness had been proven when the Fallen Angel had tried to kill me. Also, my neglect brought him to this sticky situation. There's a silver lining to all of this, though, since my negligence got me to school and meet Rias' brother Sierzechs,' he thought as he walked around the neighborhood his school complex was in.

His thoughts were interrupted by the blue light on the ground near the sketchy alley. Was that what he thought that was?

He decided it was best to investigate, so he walked to and inspected it. His suspicions were confirmed: It was a leyline crossing. But how did it end up here? Why did he never notice? Deciding to satisfy his curiosity, he then touched the leyline crossing to confirm everything.

The moment he did, he was teleported to another place and dimension altogether – one very familiar to him.

"Welcome to the church of shadows, the one true nahobino."

"Sophia? How?"

She chuckled at that; it seems the young man hasn't figured it out. She was the prostitute who gives birth to demon life. She's there to serve the true nahobino in all of his journeys, and to give birth to new demons. "I've told you, I will give aid to you, and your journey hasn't ended yet, nahobino," she said.

"Well, that's great and all, but I don't have any macca to fuse demons," he said with a confused look. When he had been pulled here, he lost all the macca he had. It was a shame, really – with all the macca he owned, he could buy his whole compendium five times over.

"Losing material possession is needed to achieve a demonic fusion. In Da'at, you used macca, but I take human currencies as well."

"Alright, but I've finished my compendium, didn't I? There's no more reason for me to fuse demons anymore; I got what all I need already."

"With the knowledge you've gained, you've gained more demons to sing praises to you. Come, see it for yourself." She then handed him his, Nao then looked at it and noticed… the demonic compendium had expanded to accommodate more demons

Gremori…

Asmodeus…

Azazel…

Ddraig…

Who the hell are all these demons?

Dang, finally finished this chapter. With my procrastination habit, I didn't even know how I even completed this one. Now, addressing some reviews:

Clown2107: Alright fair enough, I was getting ahead of myself in the earlier chapters. Also, there will be more SMT V demons that I have planned in this fic, so stay tuned

3697014: Well as you can see, Gemori or Gremory is now available for summoning ;)

Jasminepsycho100: May or may not be in the next few chapters.
