Hey guys! I'm back with a new chapter. I might not post for a few weeks after this because I'll be a bit busy but I'm definitely not abandoning this fic! So please don't worry about it!
Disclaimer: I do not own My Hero Academia and any of its characters, these belong solely to Kohei Horikoshi.
Izuku felt his brain go numb at his mother's words. He stared at her through the small gap and saw her shivering back. A tiny part of him wanted to console his quietly sobbing mother but he was too angry to move toward her. He felt nauseous... and somehow placed the painting on the ground before immediately sneaking out of the house without making a noise. He ran aimlessly and reached the park where he used to play with his sister when they were kids. He sat on a bench, curled up and sobbed for hours whilst clutching his sister's necklace. He couldn't believe it! His sister was alive and his mother didn't even think he was stable enough to inform him about this. She had no right to decide that for him! So, what if Emiko had changed into a completely different person? It would've been weird if that hadn't occurred in the first place. At least she was alive! He didn't understand how his mom could reject her own daughter?! For ten months! And she didn't even want to give her a place to stay when his twin returned. Speaking of which, she was returning in the morning of the 19th. Izuku had to ensure that his sister arrived without any complications. He would make sure of it. He knew where he could go to ask for help.
Izuku knocked on the door and rang the doorbell urgently. He heard someone shouting behind the door about how he was going to damage the doorbell. That must've been the matriarch as her husband was too nice to complain about such matters. As the matriarch opened the door, she had a furious expression on her face that screamed bloody murder but then turned into a shocked one when she saw him (or more specifically, when she saw his terrible condition). "Izuku, dear boy, what happened to you?", Bakugo Mitsuki worriedly questioned him.
Perhaps it was her tone or the concerned expression on her face that caused him to hug her and sob into her shoulder like a baby. Mitsuki looked at her husband, Bakugo Masaru who had appeared due to the commotion, with an 'I-don't-know-what-happened-here-and-get-some-hot-chocolate-right-now-dammit!' expression. He hurriedly scuttled towards the kitchen to do as his wife said (or rather expressed). Mitsuki shut the main door with her free arm and dragged a sobbing Izuku to their couch with her other arm. "What's going on? Who the hell's making such a loud racket?! We don't need any…", Katsuki trailed off as he saw the scene and his mother's furious expression that told him to 'shut-up-this-instant-damn-brat-or-you'll-definitely-regret-it'.
What really silenced Katsuki was the expression on the damn nerd's face. He hadn't seen that expression since the nerd's mother had burnt their family photos… Izuku had come crying to his home many times ever since the tragedy occurred. He quietly sat beside the sobbing Deku (who was still leeching on to his mom). It seemed that whatever had happened wasn't a small matter. Katsuki wondered if the nerd had finally realised that he could never become a hero without a quirk but remembered when the idiot had tried to save him from the sludge villain and when he had fallen into a stream when they were much younger. No, a part of Katsuki knew that Deku would never stop trying to become a hero and he hated it. It didn't matter though. The nerd had come to his house and even if he was a big bully, he was also the idiot's best friend (which was pathetic because the nerd definitely wasn't his. He had no friends to waste his time on, those extras in his class were just toys for killing his time).
As Masaru arrived with a drinking jar full of steaming hot chocolate and offered some to Izuku in a mug who accepted with a shaky smile. "I'm really sorry for intruding and nearly damaging your doorbell. It's just that I… I…", Izuku trailed off and began crying all over again. Katsuki's parents exchanged concerned glances and gave their son an inquisitory look who shook his head. Katsuki didn't know anything about this. The other teen had tiredly attended class today (which had become the usual norm for the past ten months) and left without any issues. Whatever happened must've occurred after school. "Take your time Izuku. There's no rush", his mother reassured the teen softly. Katsuki marvelled at her soft personality, she was never soft with him and thank God, he didn't want to be babied like the nerd. Look where that got him!
"Okaa-san has been behaving differently for the past ten months. I had thought nothing about it initially but started to get worried as she didn't recover", Izuku softly replied. "That's true! I noticed some changes as well but didn't think much about it. After all, her therapist had assured us that she wouldn't behave abnormally until she was triggered. And we've made sure to keep it that way so I'm sure that…", Mitsuki stopped speaking as tears began leaking out of Izuku's eyes once again.
Katsuki's mood soured as the conversation progressed. As if Emiko's death wasn't enough, her mother had to go crazy and everyone around had to pretend as if she never even existed. He'd hated it. Nobody deserved that kind of disrespect. The fact that Deku didn't do anything about it only proved that he completely deserved that name. He clenched his fists as he remembered her soft voice sweetly whispering 'I love you, 'Suki-chan'. He hated thinking about her... Even after nearly ten years, he still couldn't move on. He'd loved her a lot... and wasn't strong enough to stop people from disrespecting her. He'd initially taken it out on Deku but that wasn't enough...
He was so lost in his own thoughts that he had nearly missed out on the nerd's explanation. The nerd took a deep breath and began whilst looking at the centre table, "I planned on surprising her today with a gift. I wanted to sneak up on her so I didn't make a sound as I reached home. As I approached her room, I managed to overhear her talking with tou-san since the door was partially open. She sounded angry and that made me curious and slightly worried." The entire family exchanged a tense look, they all knew how Hisashi and Inko were not on the best terms. Katsuki felt his head snap with how carefully he'd been listening and felt his heart beat uncontrollably fast. He didn't know why he reacted this way every time the nerd would discuss his parent's interactions. It had begun ever since Emiko left Japan and had never stopped, even after receiving the news of her demise. The nerd continued, "I knew it wasn't right but I anyways continued to eavesdrop. She strictly told tou-san off for trying to send an unknown female to our house."
Suddenly Izuku stopped talking and started bawling. Masaru tried to calm him down whilst Mitsuki muttered something along the lines of, "Don't tell me he's got a mistress and wants to send her here. He can't expect Inko to handle that. No woman can tolerate that kind of betrayal." Izuku shook his head at the accusation and gave a miserable smile, "Oh aunt Mitsuki. If only it were that, I wouldn't have minded it so much." Mitsuki looked at him, shocked. They all knew how much Izuku loved his mom. For him to say such words, what had actually happened?!
Katsuki felt like shaking the answer out of him. Goddammit, stupid nerd! Couldn't even stop bawling for five minutes! He was just beating around the bush... and really testing Katsuki's patience. The blonde knew this was about Emiko and he hated it that the crybaby wasn't telling him. Could this unknown female be related to her death or one of her friends...? But that wasn't possible! Was this lady from the police? Just who was this woman?! It wasn't a pansy-ass mistress so who was it!? Before he could voice out his thoughts rather aggressively, the nerd schooled his shivers and took a long sip of the hot chocolate.
Izuku took in a deep breath whilst removing his necklace from under his shirt and placing it on his palm. Katsuki unknowingly stared at it as if it were a treasure. He had Emiko's bracelet locked in a box in his room. He remembered how he'd blasted off her arm and felt the guilt nearly eat him up. He needed a huge break after the nerd left... the nerd's arrival had mentally exhausted him. Izuku looked at the Bakugo family before finally speaking the words that shocked everyone present to the core, "Apparently that female is my presumably dead twin. She has changed so much that my mom decided to withhold this information from me for the past ten months. She's arriving on this 19th in the morning. Emiko-nee-san never died! She is still alive! She's not dead!"
By the end of his mini-speech (after which the nerd continued repeating, "She's still alive! She's not dead!"), everyone had become silent and stared at Izuku with their eyes and mouth wide open. Izuku would've laughed if the situation wasn't so serious. Finally, after five minutes of pin-drop silence, Mitsuki mumbled whilst covering her face, "No way… When Emiko died, none of us believed it until they found a mutilated body which contained her DNA. How can something like that be faked? How can… how can…"
Katsuki felt his heart stop at the nerd's words. Emiko was… alive? All this time, she was… He'd spent so long regretting his actions when she'd announced she was leaving and was determined to make it up to her when she returned. And then she'd died… He'd been devastated when he'd learnt about it. He'd sealed most of his memories inside the box that contained his bracelet (never mind that he'd remember her at times) and swore to never fall in love again. Falling in love was painful and wouldn't help him surpass All Might. And now that he learnt that she was alive… he felt as if a part of him had been unlocked. His lips stretched into a wide and rare smile that stunned the others present.
"From Emiko being alive to Katsuki actually smiling, what in the world is happening today?", Mitsuki muttered under her breath. "So, what do you plan to do with Emiko now, Midoriya-kun? I don't think your mother will tolerate her presence and you've got only three days to prepare", Masaru spoke for the first time. Izuku simply stared at him. Mitsuki tsk'ed, it looked like the poor boy was finally going to lose it. "We'll keep her. At least until you can convince that... your mom. I wanna see if she's quirkless like you are. Heh, better hope not for both of your sakes", Katsuki declared capturing everybody's attention. Everybody knew he was trying to sound manly and rude but they all saw past it. Especially when his smile hadn't changed to his usual condescending smirk. "Don't worry about it squirt. We'll do it!" Mitsuki loudly announced and Masaru softly nodded in agreement.
Izuku started bawling once and repeatedly bowed in gratitude which greatly annoyed Katsuki who was screaming bloody murder at him. His mother began yelling at him in return while Masaru tried to placate his family. As Izuku looked at the scene, he knew that Emiko would be fine. After all, she was in safe hands. Whilst the Bakugo family prepared for his sister's accommodation, he would finally deal with his mother. He'd ignored her behaviour towards his sister because he'd convinced himself that Emiko wouldn't have wanted them to fight because of her, especially when she wasn't even alive. But it was different right now. He wouldn't ditch his sister when she needed him, no matter how much she'd changed.
Author's notes: Well, phew that was a lot to write... Katsuki is such a tough character to write. I think he's one of the most complex characters in BNHA/MHA!
Oh yeah, I just wanted to inform you guys that I really like Inko as a character. She's such a sweet mother. Even in this fic, Inko isn't actually bad. It's just that she feels extremely guilty whenever she'd hear about her 'supposedly' dead daughter and that guilt would eat her up. To somewhat protect herself, her mind pretends as if her daughter never existed at all. But she just became too extreme about it (and that became really disrespectful?). So, in a way, her love poisoned her mind, I guess?
Now that I've cleared that bit up, phew, I'm gonna take a break. Do give me your thoughts on this one and I hope to see y'all soon.
