Hey guys! I'm back! I know it's been a long break but I really had no time! Besides, I also had to change quite a few plot points because I didn't like the original version too much. I won't take too much of your time though so let's begin!
Disclaimer: I do not own My Hero Academia and any of its characters, these belong solely to Kohei Horikoshi.
Izuku secretly contacted his father (who had happily sent him his sister's latest pictures). In a way, he could see what his mother meant; Emiko looked completely different. Her once green hair was littered with so many colours (it was even more colourful than a rainbow) that you could no longer identify her original hair colour. His father had assured him that this was now her natural hair colour since he never got her any hair dyes. Her face which was covered with freckles once upon a time was now clear (his father told him that this was her natural look since she didn't use any skincare or make-up products). He had been shocked when he had initially seen her photos, her naive and lively green eyes were now sharp, guarded and multicoloured. Her once bright smile now seemed formal and fake.
He'd been informed about her memory loss. She'd been wandering around aimlessly when the police had found her. They'd picked out a name for her since she didn't remember her original name. As everybody found her extremely beautiful and predicted that she would be extremely successful in her future, she was now named 'Fumiko'.
Izuku had mixed feelings about the entire situation. He was really happy his sister wasn't dead but the young lady his father had talked about didn't completely feel like his sister. She was more withdrawn and closed off than he remembered, and the contrast confused him. A lot! His father had tried to reassure him by telling him that her memories would appear with time, but he wasn't entirely convinced. He could wait for a few more years… he had already spent nine years in agony. He knew his father was overjoyed though. After all, Em-Fumiko had gone missing under his watch. And his mother had made the situation worse by constantly accusing his father, ensuring that his father never forgot. Now that Em-Fumiko was alive, his father could finally live a peaceful life.
Izuku had informed All Might about the situation as well. The hero was extremely happy for the boy and had forgiven him for skipping training when he learnt about why he couldn't make it the other day. After all, it wasn't common for your seemingly dead sister to come back to life. His sister would be returning from America, which was where she was right now. This knowledge made All Might reminisce about his younger days with his former sidekick, David Shield whilst Izuku enthusiastically listened to him.
Izuku had also confronted Inko who finally broke down. Fumiko was too different from Emiko for her to feel anything motherly towards her and she didn't want him to feel the same pain. "It's much better than her being dead, okaa-san. She would've changed anyway... she can't be the same five-year old from all those years ago. But we can always make new memories to compensate for the past... and steer her in the correct direction. Also, I want to be a hero okaa-san. I can't become one without getting hurt", Izuku spoke whilst hugging her. His mother had cried while thanking God for giving him such a strong son and had promised to at least try to accommodate the girl.
As Izuku returned from his training on the beach, he prepared to pick his sister up. He had informed the Bakugo family about the recent developments, and it was finally decided that E-Fumiko would be living with him. They had gladly accepted his decision and offered a place if Inko couldn't handle her. He had decided to skip school today. Inko had already informed the school about his absence before leaving for work. Whilst his mother had promised to try, she wasn't very keen on interacting much with the other girl. Mitsuki had decided to accompany Izuku to the airport.
As he waited in the arrivals section, he suddenly heard some people whispering amongst each other as they pointed in a particular direction. Izuku turned around and saw a beautiful teenager who was dressed like a fashionista. He suddenly understood what the entire commotion was about. After all, his sister was extremely beautiful. And she had an excellent fashion sense to compliment that beauty! Izuku instantly waved his hands as he recognised her and screamed, "Nee-san, over here! Over here" which earned him an embarrassed look from Mitsuki and an amused look from Fumiko.
"Hello Midoriya Izuku-kun and Bakugo Mitsuki-san. It is a pleasure to meet you", Fumiko bowed as she spoke softly and then extended her hand. Mitsuki gave Izuku a nervous grin and an expression that he guessed meant 'Oi!-How-am-I-supposed-to-react-to-this?' He couldn't blame her, the extremely formal attitude managed to put even him on an edge.
"Did I say something wrong?", Fumiko slightly tilted her head to the left and looked at them with confusion across her face. "No, nothing's wrong. It's just not what we expected. And yes, we know you've lost your memories. Now let's get your luggage and take you home, brat", Mitsuki tried. Fumiko slightly widened her eyes at the mock insult and stared at her for a few seconds before nodding her head.
"I'm home", Izuku announced to no one in particular. "Is Midoriya Inko-san home?", Fumiko seriously questioned him. Izuku winced at the question. It was so weird when she addressed them so formally. Fumiko misunderstood his expression and spoke, "Don't worry. Midoriya Hisashi-san has already informed me about her... dislike of me. He also told me about how you somehow managed to convince her to accept me… as a guest" Izuku shook his head. His sister wasn't really that different… she was just… lost.
"I wasn't talking about that. It's just that… there's no need to be formal… we're your family, nee-san", Izuku replied with a soft smile and marvelled at how his sister stared at his face before finally giving him a small and unsure smile, "I'm sorry… Izuku-kun. I don't really remember what having a family feels like. To be honest, I don't like being formal either… it feels very distant and grates on my nerves. It's just... I was told that the Japanese don't like it when one skips all formalities. But with you… it just feels wrong. Since we're skipping all the formalities… is it okay if I call you 'Zuku? I've been dying to call you that for some reason."
Izuku froze. Nine years! It had been nine years since he'd heard that name! Sure, the voice and the face were different, but it was the same person! Izuku suddenly began sobbing like a baby, occasionally mumbling, "I've missed you so much, nee-san. Where were you this entire time? Wahhhhhhh!" Fumiko stared at him for a long moment before slowly hugging him and softly patting his head, "I've come back now, alright? I won't be the same person as before but… I'll always remain your older sister… okay? I'm sorry for not being there… it must've been rough on you." They'd begun their non-stop conversations after he'd calmed down.
Izuku stared at his exhausted sister who was asleep on his bed. They'd talked about their lives before Fumiko left, with her trying to remember various incidents and him correcting her when she was wrong. He'd been amazed at how quickly she'd begun remembering everything. He'd also voiced out his surprise at her not remembering anything when she'd been returned to their father. "Probably because I wasn't extremely close to him. Don't forget we were inseparable as kids", Fumiko had answered him when he'd asked her the same.
He'd also discovered that she was quirkless, just like him but covered it up with her high IQ and strength that she had built up. She'd decided to take a nap before they had lunch and dinner at Katsuki's place. She'd maintained a poker face whenever he mentioned the blonde. Apparently, she couldn't remember much about anybody else other than him. He was okay with that. She could take all the time she needed to remember the others as long as she never forgot him.
Mitsuki opened the door as soon as she heard the doorbell. She saw the Midoriya twins and welcomed them inside. Izuku had worn something casual and had brought his books. Fumiko was dressed in hoodies and sweatpants. Masaru calmly greeted them as he welcomed Fumiko. Mitsuki ordered the twins, "Katsuki's upstairs and I'm not done with lunch yet. And before you can offer any help, just no. You can do me a favour by going and accompanying that loud son of mine."
"Thank you very much", Fumiko formally bowed which embarrassed the adults. "You don't have to be so formal with aunty and uncle, nee-san", Izuku explained to Fumiko (who understood why since her brother had explained how close he was to the Bakugos) as they climbed up the stairs. Izuku knocked on the door and simply opened it when he received no answer, much to his sister's surprise (he wasn't surprised about the blonde not answering the door anymore).
Kacchan was inside the room and had his headphones on at full volume. As the blonde sensed the disturbance and opened his eyes, Izuku saw his sister slightly squint at the blonde's face. Izuku realised that his sister might be remembering Kacchan, after all… they were each other's first love. In a few seconds, his sister had a bright smile on her face… the one she used to wear when they were kids and sweetly called out, "Kacchan! I remember you! It's good to see you again!"
If her smile and her tone hadn't shocked Izuku enough then Kacchan's reaction definitely did. The blonde stared at his sister with wide eyes and her words had caused him to turn impossibly red. Izuku could definitely see some steam coming out of Kacchan and inwardly snickered whilst lamenting the fact that he didn't have a camera to capture the moment. "I-I-It's good to see you too Emi-Fumiko", Kacchan replied, his tone softer than usual. Izuku wondered if he should greet Kacchan but decided against it. He didn't want to interrupt and ruin their moment. It appeared that his sister was instantly smitten with the blonde (seriously… what did she see in the other guy?) and was talking to him (whilst forgetting poor him) as if she never even left in the first place (which baffled him, because it'd taken her quite some time for her to be that comfortable with him).
"Do you two attend the same high school? Are you two in the same class? Oooooh, what are you studying right now? I could probably help you with your homework", Fumiko asked to no one in particular. Izuku winced. He should've told her earlier about their deteriorated friendship (even though the blonde's attitude towards him had changed ever since he'd announced Emiko's recent status to the Bakugos). Kacchan's face slightly fell as he answered, "Me and De-Izuku are in the same class. By the way, I got these notes from class since you missed school today, Izuku. And what do you mean you can help us out? Your brother's a big nerd and I've never needed help studying!" He pointed to some books beside him as he spoke.
"That's nice! So, since I'm 'Zuku's older sister it won't be too much if I ask you to take care of him, right? I'll treat you to your favourite snacks if you do so. And it's not bad to ask for help. I know you don't like it when other people try to aid you but Kacchan, it's very lonely when you have nobody to depend upon in times of need. You wanted to be the number one hero, right? This difference in attitude is one of the main reasons why Endeavour is number two and All Might is number one! Trust me, Endeavour's family hates him because of that attitude of his", his sister seriously explained.
"How do you know about Endeavour's personal life, nee-chan?", Izuku questioned her startled at her words. That was something even the media was unaware of. To gain access to such sensitive information… how was that even possible? Before he could think further, his sister looked at him confused, "I don't know… it's not common knowledge? It's just there inside my head…? I don't know how I know… I just do?"
"Must've been the work of the bastard who took you. I bet you never even forgot it… because this fact was that inconsequential to you. You probably don't remember events related to you… and those idiots over there probably never checked what you do know", Kacchan theorised. Izuku was impressed with the blonde (he knew the other boy was smart), that was a pretty solid theory. However, before anybody could comment on it, they heard Mitsuki's call, "Oi brats! Lunch's ready! And you three better wash your hands before coming down or else you won't like the results!"
Lunch was excellent until the questions started. "So, Fumiko, what are you going to do about your schooling? Are you going to join the same middle school as these two? By the way, I don't mean to be rude or anything but do you need a private tutor to catch up on your education?", Mitsuki asked. "No, I'm not going to middle school right now. I've finished all my education in a year, including university. I even have a certificate to acknowledge this", Fumiko answered dutifully. The table was silent before Fumiko turned to look at Izuku, "Did I say something wrong?" "No… it's just that what you've done isn't something people usually do, you know…", Izuku replied stunned. "Hmmm, I'm aware of that. I was even tested for a memory or an intelligence quirk, but they were all negative", Fumiko mumbled.
"So, what are you going to do now? You're too young to apply for a job", Masaru inquired. "I'm planning on joining the hero course of U.A. High School. It's not going to be an easy task since I currently don't have a quirk but there's no harm in applying for the entrance exam. Besides, 'Zuku is trying to apply for the same course as well", Fumiko replied delightfully.
Izuku sneakily glanced at Katsuki who had a wondrous expression on his face and wondered why he didn't scream at her like he did at him ten months ago. Love really changes a person, Izuku marvelled. But did the blonde really love his sister? After all, she was no longer the five-year Emiko he used to be in love with. Love… liking and attraction… Izuku suddenly remembered the cute boy who'd suggested the gladiolus painting (which was now inside his mother's room) to him. He wondered how the other person was faring and hoped to see him again. He snapped out of his thoughts when he felt somebody shake him. "Woah, it's okay squirt. Since even somebody like this stupid boy can ace the mock test, I'm sure you'll do even better", Mitsuki tried cheering him up. Fumiko giggled at the insult and Kacchan had looked at her dazedly. Izuku exchanged a smirk with the other Bakugos at his dazed look. He really couldn't blame the blonde; his sister had a very harmonious voice.
They'd decided to stay over since they were also going to have dinner. Izuku and Katsuki had begun studying whilst Fumiko watched them. After a few hours, Izuku turned around to ask Fumiko a question but kept his mouth shut when he saw her dozing off on Kacchan's bed. He wondered if he did the right thing by staying in the Bakugo house. After all, America was located on the other side of the world and Fumiko must've had an exhausting journey.
As he stared at her sleeping figure, he wondered if he would've been attracted to her if she weren't his sister. Well, he would never find out now because he could never look at her as anything but his sister. He decided to ask Kacchan if he'd solved the question but stopped after seeing the latter intently stare at his sister. After all this time, he hadn't expected the blonde to be so smitten with her. He wondered if it was because of his sister's beauty. But he could feel Kacchan's gaze… and it wasn't lecherous or lewd. Izuku smiled to himself and skipped to the next question. That question could definitely wait.
The peaceful atmosphere was disturbed when Fumiko's phone started ringing. Fumiko groggily got up and answered the phone, "Hello?" Izuku heard a lot of shrieking when Fumiko interrupted the other person, "Melissa, I'm alright. Yes, I've reached home safely. Hmmm, they're fine. Everybody was terribly happy. Yes, yes, my family was overjoyed, don't worry. You're having some issues with your equipment? What happened?" Izuku didn't understand all the technical terms that came out of his sister's mouth and swallowed. Fumiko was lying to whoever Melissa was about everyone being happy. It seemed that this Melissa person was important to her.
"Oh! I'm sorry I fell asleep, you guys. Hehehehe, it was a tiring journey you know!", Fumiko excused with a shy smile. "Who was she, nee-san?", Izuku asked her. "Oh, she's a friend I made in I-Island. That's where I was originally found", Fumiko answered as she stretched her arms and rolled her neck clockwise and anti-clockwise. Izuku wondered, I-Island… how did Fumiko even get there in the first place?
Fumiko looked at his face and sighed, "Actually, I wasn't supposed to tell this to anyone, but I trust the two of you. I've never been interested in becoming a hero… you've both known that since we were kids. I don't want to join U.A. at all, actually. You see, the heroes in I-Island suspected that I was a victim of a terrible villain. They wanted to send me to Japan because the Japanese have one of the best heroes… and also because I'm Japanese but that wasn't the primary reason. The Hero Public Safety Commission of Japan wanted to… keep me under surveillance but I'm not a villain so they had to let me go. They sort of forced me to join U.A. for my safety… and also because they know that the villain who might be involved in my kidnapping can easily bypass U.A.s security. If something like that does happen, then they'll get a lead on him. Since I was going to U.A., I decided to take the hero course because I wanted to experience something new and exciting. I will be taking the admission test, but it doesn't matter if I pass or fail, I'm in any way. Oh, by the way, this house is under surveillance right now. Though, the ones spying on me don't know that I'm aware of their presence. It's not that easy to sneak up on me."
Her announcement stunned the boys. They were being watched right now?! What kind of a villain did his sister encounter and why? Izuku briefly remembered the villain who had nearly killed All Might and shivered. It couldn't be him, could it? But what really horrified him was how his sister was nearly imprisoned for getting kidnapped by some terrible villain. He'd never imagined that the HPSC could go so far to tackle someone. Though their methods spoke leaps and bounds about the tyranny of that particular villain. But controlling his sister wasn't an option… he'd try talking to All Might about his sister's circumstances and see if the hero could do anything about it. But why was his sister so calm about this? She didn't sound enraged at all.
"Forget it, you two. Whilst I'm not interested in becoming a hero, I can definitely enjoy the hero course. I heard it's real fun… though the teachers in U.A. would have my head if they heard me right now. So don't think about doing anything stupid in my stead. Don't try to go against the Commission, you don't know how many heroes you two might've worshipped have murdered people who had rebellious ideas", she warned them. The two boys shivered at her words. "Do they know that you know so much?", Kacchan asked her wearily. "Nope. Actually, I only remembered this stuff when I saw a hero's poster in the airport. That hero is a part of the Commission. All the interviews I had with them were mostly unimportant. Of course, I have no intention of sharing any of this with them because I'd then be tossed into Tartarus. I'm sure you know about it but you really do not want to go there", she chuckled darkly and the entire room was silent.
The silence ended when Fumiko cheerfully questioned, "Alright. Once again, I'm sorry for falling asleep. Now did you guys complete your homework?" The boys shook their heads and took turns asking her their doubts. Izuku realised that Fumiko was an excellent teacher. She could explain the same concept in so many ways and each of them were different from each other. He could understand why her intelligence was tested. To finish understanding so many things thoroughly in a single year didn't seem even remotely… possible to him.
His sister wasn't a genius as a kid, sure she was smart, but she wasn't this smart. Could it be the villain's doing? He felt sick as soon as the thought entered his mind. Human experimentation was banned because of how torturous and gruesome some experiments could get. His sister had lost most of her memories… Could it be because she'd encountered too many horrible things?
"You're getting rather pale 'Zuku. Are you okay?", his sister asked, voice full of concern. "Let's take a break. Not everyone's smart enough like you", Kacchan weakly protested. "Okay. I know! Let's go to that park we used to play in when we were kids! I wanna see it!", she squealed in delight and excitedly got up. Izuku softly smiled at her behaviour. No matter how much his sister had changed, she was still herself. He didn't know why his mother refused to see that. Or had his mother seen something that he hadn't? But if Fumi-nee-san had seriously spent eight years with a villain then… it was possible for her to have gained some unpleasant qualities. He then swore to himself to never leave his sister even if she turned out to be the worst villain in history.
Author's notes: Well, that was one long chapter… and after that break, you guys deserved it! I'd originally planned on including the park and dinner scenes so that next chapter would be all about Fumiko's inclusion into the Midoriya family and the admissions test but then that'd be too long. I'd originally planned on Fumiko not remembering anything at all initially but didn't want to write any more angst, poor Izuku deserves a break. Don't forget to comment and I'll see y'all soon.
