A few months later, the same group was gathered again, with the addition of Zeref and a blond woman with brown eyes in her 30's. She was a Celestial Spirit mage as well as the one who knitted Igneel's scales into Natsu's scarf and taught the other four slayers how to read and write. Her name was Anna Heartfilia. The main reason why she was present was because the Eclipse Gate required her specific type of magic to work but also because she decided she'd follow her students into the future. As for Zeref, he was here because he was curious to see his creation at work.
After saying their farewells each of the dragons, except the fire one, stood in front of their child and said "Dragon Soul Technique". After that, each one of them started glowing a blinding light of different color: Grandeeney's was light blue almost white light, Metalicana's color was a dark gray, unsurprisingly Weisslogia glowed white and Skiadrum emitted a black light. Then, their forms changed into that of a ball that entered their respective child.
Anna then turned to Natsu. "If everything goes as planned, you should find us all together right here between the year X750 and X800, depends on my descendant."
"And if not?" he retorted while raising an eyebrow
"It's hard to say, the most likely scenario is that they will get separated and scattered across Fiore." Zeref explained.
"Fantastic." Natsu commented with sarcasm, knowing his luck that was what was bound to happen.
"Best of luck to you Natsu." Anna said teasingly while turning around and walking towards the Eclipse Gate. She then spread her arms and almost simultaneously the doors of the Eclipse Gate started opening, reveling an intense light indicating that the portal was open.
And so, Anna and the four children proceeded toward the gate and looked back briefly with a small wave before walking through the portal. Once they had disappeared, the doors closed on there own signaling that a major step of The 400 Year Plan was now complete.
X450
It has been a few decades since the Dragon Slayer walked through the Eclipse Gate and a lot has happened to Natsu. Through a lot of training and practice, and also beating up criminals here and there, he had mastered the basic Fire Dragon Slayer Magic and had started learning how to use the Fire Dragon King Mode which earned him a tattoo of a four-winged dragon that covered his right arm from his shoulder to his wrist.
However, the pink-haired mage had worked out that since Acnologia had the power to feed off of any and all magic, the only way to defeat him was to possess a similar ability. With this in mind, Natsu designed a curse which sole purpose was to modify his magic container. The way it worked was when Natsu absorbed a new magic, the curse would integrate it into his magic container to enable him to use that magic. It did have a few flaws however. First, the curse needed a base to work with. For instance, since Natsu's only magic as of yet was Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, the curse could only be used on either another type of Fire Magic or Dragon Slayer Magic. Moreover, the process would take several hours during which Natsu couldn't use any magic. He could still use his Fire Curse normally but there would be situations where it just wouldn't be enough.
This new ability hadn't been put to the test yet. In order to remedy this, and also to take the pinkette's training up a notch, Igneel somehow managed to locate three dragons that Acnologia hadn't killed yet and that used to fight in the anti-human faction during the Dragon Civil War: an Ice Dragon, a Water Dragon and a Gravity Dragon.
Speaking of Igneel, he wasn't exactly doing too well. His health was deteriorating at an increasing rate. The main symptoms were a regular lack of energy, muscle weakness, and his magic power was becoming unstable making his spells very hard to control.
As for Natsu, his dragonification was now quite advanced with scales covering about half of his body and could be found pretty much anywhere except on his face. He had also discovered that the use of certain techniques, especially Dragon Force, accelerated it.
Right now, he was walking through what would be a plains if it wasn't covered by several layers of snow. See, since Natsu is a Fire Dragon Slayer it really wasn't all that hard for him to pick which dragon to go after first. Igneel told him where to find the Ice Dragon but what he didn't tell him was that he would have to walk through the coldest place in the whole country to find it…damn lizard. Now granted, Natsu's magic made him very cold resistant, but he still wasn't immune to it and right now, boy was he cold. Moreover, he couldn't use any magic to warm himself up because of the imminent fight. To make matters worse, the overwhelming presence of ice and snow made Natsu's nose almost completely useless to find his target.
Finally, after hours of search, he came upon a cavern. He had no idea if the dragon he was looking for was inside but either way going inside was a very appealing idea at the moment so Natsu went for it.
As fate would have it, upon entering the cavern, he was greeted with the sight of a pale blue dragon with white claws, white spike going all the way from his neck, down his spine and to the tip of his tail. He also presented bat-like wings with white webbing. He was about three quarters of the size of Igneel but was still huge compared to the pink-haired Dragon Slayer. At first, he seemed to be sleeping but when he sensed a significant magical presence near him, his eyelids lifted thus revealing his bright blue eyes.
When his gaze landed on Natsu and he realized the power belonged to what appeared to be a human being, he was just going to crush him and go back to sleep. However, upon further inspection, he sensed a particular type of magic in him: Dragon Slayer Magic. The very magic designed to kill those of his kind. The same magic that not only had cost them the war but had threatened their existence. Therefore, it would be extremely foolish of him to just stray up attack this human especially since he didn't look frightened or intimidated at all. That being said, the pink-haired slayer hadn't attacked him either which piqued the dragon's curiosity. Finally, the ice creature decided to do something he had never even thought about doing before: he would talk to him.
"What do you want human?" he asked, kind of rudely. But hey, at least he actually spoke to him.
"Well aren't you a bundle of joy? You really should be nicer to your guests, especially since you mustn't get many." Natsu mocked.
"Just answer the question." the ice dragon growled.
"I came here for you." the slayer answered with a dark smirk.
After that the dragon scoffed. "For me? I don't know how you found me but if you think you insignificant worm can hurt let alone kill me, you're insane."
"And yet here you are, hiding from another "insignificant worm" as you put it."
"THAT ABOMINATION ISN'T HUMAN!" was the enraged and furious response that he received and shook the entire cave.
Yet, Natsu didn't flinch but instead chuckled. 'Well, neither am I.' he thought. "But he used to be. Pretend all you want, it has been proven that humans can kill dragons." he retorted.
"And you wish to become like him by slaying me? What does that make you?" the ice lizard provoked while taking a more defensive stance.
"On the contrary, defeating you is nothing but a step towards my real goal." the mage explained.
"And that is?" the dragon questioned while narrowing his eyes.
"Defeat Acnologia."
This comment made the dragon erupt in laughter. "And…why would you…give yourself…such a goal?" he asked while laughing.
"Because I'm the only one who can." Natsu answered simply, not at all offended.
"Who…gave you…that idea?" the ice creature questioned while laughing even harder.
"My father, the Fire Dragon King, Igneel."
This caused the laughter to instantly vanish, the dragon now taking the man in front of him completely seriously. Igneel was one of the strongest dragon and by far the strongest fire dragon. If this human was trained by Igneel, he might actually be a threat, especially if he believed him to be capable of killing Acnologia. "Very well, but before we begin, answer me this. What is your name?"
"Natsu Dragneel. May I ask yours?"
"Frizia."
And so it began. Immediately after revealing his name Frizia lunged at Natsu who jumped back and outside the cave to dodge the attack but also to lure Frizia outside where he would be able to press his biggest advantage: his superior mobility. And sure enough, the dragon fell for it. Frizia then tried to smash Natsu with his claw.
"Ice Dragon's Freezing Fist!" he called out, only for Natsu to narrowly sidestep.
"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" he shouted as he ignited his fist and punched the very same claw that was meant to kill him. This caused the dragon to roar in pain and instinctively lift his leg. Exploiting the opening he just created, Natsu lit his whole body on fire.
"Fire Dragon's Sword Horn!" he yelled and jumped towards Frizia's chest, thus sending him stumbling back a few meters. He was, at first, pretty satisfied with his performance, thinking this ordeal would prove easier than he had initially thought. That is until he got a good look at his opponent and noticed that his attacks had made little damage. Moreover, Frizia was now unquestionably pissed.
"Ice Dragon's Spike!" Frizia yelled as he extended his slightly injured arm and a giant spike made of ice shot out of his palm and towards Natsu at great speed. The pinkette barely avoided getting impaled but then got hit and thrown away by the side of the very same spike. While he was still in the air, he managed to turn towards his attacker and ignite both of his hands and bring them together.
"Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame!" he called out and then threw a giant fireball at the ice dragon who avoided most of it thanks to the distance between them but still got hit on the side of his left hip which visibly darkened. Frizia then flapped his wings and took to the sky. His wings started glowing light blue.
"Ice Dragon's Wing Attack!" and with that, a whirlwind of small ice particles rushed towards Natsu who had now reached the ground and managed to dodge most of it but a small portion of it touched his left arm and even it wasn't frozen, he started losing feeling in it. At this point, he understood that the longer the battle lasted, the more his chances lowered.
"Fire Drive." the Fire Dragon Slayer announced as his entire body got cloaked in an aura of orange light. This technique made his attacks considerably more powerful as well as increased his strength, speed and endurance. The downside was that it burned trough his magic faster. Seeing this, Frizia started gathering ice particles in his mouth, making his cheeks puff. As a response, Natsu started doing the same.
"Ice Dragon's Roar!"
"Fire Dragon's Roar!"
They both yelled simultaneously. The two attacks collided halfway between the two opponents and struggled against each other for a bit but Natsu's roar, having the elementary advantage, ultimately prevailed and struck Frizia head-on making him roar in pain and fall from the sky. Additionally, the impact of his body on the snowy ground as well as the heat from Natsu's attack lifted and vaporized some of the snow, turning it into steam which hid Frizia from view. When it cleared, it became obvious that Natsu's attack had done a number on the ice dragon. The scales of the right side of his face, neck and a good portion of his torso had turned black and had cracked. What's worse was that his left wing, on which he had crashed was now broken in several places making it unusable. Frizia was still in fighting condition nonetheless. Seeing that the fight wasn't going his way, the dragon decided his best, and possibly only, shot at victory was to end the fight immediately. He gathered his magic in his one good wing which glowed a blinding white and swiped it in Natsu's direction.
"Ice Dragon's Snowstorm!"
The attack caused a torrent of snow and ice to rush in Natsu's direction. It was far too large and fast for him to dodge, so Natsu simply raised his arms to his face to protect himself and took the full blunt of the attack. This made Frizia sigh in relief, believing the fight to be over.
"I will admit that I had underestimated you, son of Igneel. You have earned my respect, Natsu Dragneel." he admitted and started turning away, only to be stopped by a tremendous heat and words he wasn't expecting.
"That's very good to hear. You have also earned mine."
When he looked at the source of the voice, Frizia saw Natsu with cuts and bruises all over his arms, legs and chest but more surprisingly, he was covered in scales and surrounded by golden flames signaling he has entered Dragon Force. Natsu originally hoped he wouldn't have to use it but he quickly realized that the protective heat and scales of this technique were the only things that would prevent him from getting mangled or killed by Frizia's spell. Nevertheless, he didn't exactly want to stay in this form any longer than necessary so he quickly gathered fire around both of his arms which he then swiped in a circular motion.
"Dragon Slayer's Secret Art: Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade!" he yelled as a torrent of flames went towards his enemy too fast for him to react. Frizia got hit directly sending him back several meters. When he stopped, he was laying on his side, the scales that hadn't been disintegrated were all pitch black and cracked. He was bleeding profusely and had undoubtedly many broken bones. Natsu had come out of his Dragon Force and was walking slowly towards him to deliver the finishing blow. Not one to go down quietly, Frizia used one more spell.
"Ice Dragon's Roar!"
Although this attack was much weaker than any he had used yet, it still packed a punch. Then Natsu did something that shocked Frizia to the core: he started eating his roar. It was one the first, if not the first, lesson of being a Dragon Slayer not to eat another element. When he was done eating, Natsu could feel his curse integrating the newly acquired magic into his magic container and just like he had predicted he found himself unable to summon his magic. Nevertheless, he kept walking towards the downed dragon who was too shocked to even notice. Once he was in range, he raised his arm and ignited his fist with his curse's dark red and purple flame and then brought it down on Frizia's forehead, giving him a quick and painless death. He then set the dead body on fire to make sure Acnologia would never find it. By that point Natsu was panting heavily and exhausted. Even worse his lack of magic meant that he was now a lot more vulnerable to the extreme cold. He was just feeling like laying right where he stood and fall asleep but he knew chances were he wouldn't wake from that sleep so he turned around and started walking back home, knowing full well he'd be greeted by his father's countless questions.
