I was originally going to skip right ahead to Dragon Ball Z, but I was advised to do a chapter focusing on just Goku, Bulma and their marriage. I hope I don't disappoint. Please let me know what you think.
Goku sat with Bulma in her flying machine as she flew the two of them back to West City. Goku was getting impatient, because he knew it would be much quicker to simply use The Nimbus or fly them there himself. Bulma had convinced him to use this method for the following reasons. She couldn't ride The Nimbus and hadn't brought her shrinking device meaning they couldn't use it and considering Goku had only just learnt to fly, she feared Goku might drop her if they weren't careful. In the end, Goku agreed to travel via this method despite its slower travel speed. Unfortunately, this slower travel speed created extra problems.
"Bulma I'm really hungry," said Goku.
Bulma didn't know why she was even surprised by this statement.
"Sorry Goku I didn't bring any food, you'll just have to wait till we get back to West City," said Bulma.
"I don't know if I can wait that long," wined Goku, clutching his empty stomach.
"Look, I tell you what, I'll call my parents to let them know we're coming and ask them to prepare a large meal for you. How does that sound?" asked Bulma.
"That sounds good, but please hurry, I don't think I've been this hungry since the end of my first tournament," said Goku.
Before long, Goku and Bulma landed outside her home in West City. They were greeted by Bulma's parents.
"Goku good to see you again," greeted Dr Briefs.
"Yes, and I must say you've truly grown since we last saw you," said Mrs Briefs.
"Yeah, good to see you too, but Bulma said you had food for me and I'm starving, where is it?" asked Goku who felt he was about to die of starvation.
"Right this way, I'll show you," said Mrs Briefs leading the hungry Goku inside.
"So, Bulma, you said you have something to tell us?" asked Dr Briefs.
"I'll tell you once we get inside," said Bulma.
Bulma and her father headed to the dining room where they found Goku gorging himself on a mountain of food.
"Wow you weren't kidding, he does eat a lot," comment Dr Briefs.
"Well, a big strong man needs his nutrients," said Mrs Breifs happily.
"Anyway, Mum, Dad I need to tell you something," said Bulma. "Goku do you wanna come with us or are you happy with me telling my parents on my own?"
"Can't talk Bulma, too hungry," said Goku before he continued eating.
Bulma laughed a little. Most normal women would be angered by this, but Bulma predicted she'd be telling the news solo as soon as Goku let her know he was hungry.
Bulma headed to the living room with her parents where they sat down.
"So, what did you want to tell us?" asked Dr Briefs.
"I know this seems a little sudden, but Goku and I have decided to get married," said Bulma.
Unsurprisingly, Bulma's parents were a little shocked by the news, but were nevertheless happy.
"Oh really, honey that's wonderful. I'm so glad you found yourself such a handsome young man," said Mrs Briefs happily.
"I agree, but don't you feel your rushing into things? And what happened to Yamcha?" asked Dr Briefs.
"Yamcha and I just weren't working out. Plus, we've decided to give this a few months to see if this is truly what we want. I know it's a little sudden and I know it seems like we're rushing into things, but I've known Goku for a long time and I think with enough effort we can make it work. Which made Goku more enthusiastic, as he's always up for a challenge," stated Bulma.
"Well, if this is really what you want honey we support you," said Dr Briefs.
"Yes, I look forward to welcoming this lovely young man into our family," said Mrs Briefs. "So, when and where is this happening?"
"We haven't decided that yet," said Bulma.
"Where will you live?" asked Dr Briefs.
"I'd like to continue living in West City, especially considering I'll need to help run Capsule Corp, but something tells me Goku will want to live at Mount Paozu where he was raised," answered Bulma.
"Hmm, that could cause some problems," said Dr Briefs.
"Don't worry, I think I've been able to come up with a solution we can both agree on," said Bulma.
"Really? What's that?" asked Dr Briefs.
"I want to see if we can get to the actual wedding first, but if all goes according to plan, I'll have a quiet place to work outside the city," said Bulma.
Later that evening, Bulma and Goku were discussing where they were going to live. Just as Bulma predicted, Goku was a little hesitant to spend the remainder of his life in West City.
"But Bulma, I wanna go live in the woods where I was raised by my Grandpa," wined Goku.
"I know Goku, but I need to stay in the city so I can help my father run Capsule Corp," said Bulma.
Goku groaned at this.
"Well, Yamcha said getting married meant I'd have to live with you for the rest of my life. If that means I have to live in the city, I guess I'll just have to get used to it," said Goku glumly.
"Hey, chin up big guy, we won't be spending all our time in the city," said Bulma.
"We won't be?" asked Goku hopefully.
"No, but we're going to have to spend the next few months here until we get married, then we can split our time between the city and the mountains!" explained Bulma.
"How're we gonna do that?" asked Goku.
"You'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, feel free to go to the mountains to train, but I know you're gonna love it here," said Bulma.
"How do you know that?" asked Goku.
"You know that big, delicious meal you got to eat today?" asked Bulma.
"Yeah?"
"Just tell the staff when you're hungry and they'll cook you whatever you want," said Bulma.
"Really?" asked a hopeful Goku.
"Yup, not only that, they'll cook you as much as you want," said Bulma.
Needless to say, Goku needed no more convincing to live with Bulma in the city. Little did he know, Bulma was currently working on a big surprise for him.
A few months later Goku and Bulma were ready to get married. It went ahead with little to no issue. Bulma knew she'd have to plan it all herself, but that didn't worry her greatly, as it meant she got to plan the wedding she'd always wanted. The only thing Goku really cared about getting was food, which Bulma promised a lot of. Surprisingly, Goku was able to keep still for the ceremony, he'd even agreed to wear a suit, even though he constantly complained how uncomfortable and itchy it was. Bulma had gotten Goku to agree on a lot of things, when she told him that he'd be allowed to have all the food he wanted at the reception. She also predicted he'd want more than one piece of wedding cake, so she'd had three extra's baked and had a feeling that Goku would eat them.
They were currently standing at the altar with Bulma wearing a lovely white dress and Goku a black suit. They were surrounded by friends and family, most of whom had travelled a long way to be there. Yamcha and Chi-chi had been invited to show there were no hard feelings. Because Yamcha and Chi-chi had become a couple by this point, they were happy to attend and wish the married couple good luck. Even Bulma's sister Tights had made the trip to see her younger sister get married. Tights was happy, albeit a bit jealous that Bulma had found herself such a handsome strong man to be her husband. It made Tights consider that maybe she should find herself the right partner. But that was an issue for another day. Today was Goku and Bulma's big day and everyone was happy for them.
A minister came up to the alter to start the ceremony.
"We are gathered here today to witness the union between Bulma Briefs and Son Goku. I've been told you have prepared your own vowels?" asked the minister.
"Uh, what's a vowel?" asked Goku, causing everyone present to laugh.
Bulma hadn't even bothered to tell Goku what a vowel was because she accurately predicted that Goku would've never been able to properly express how he felt. Thankfully, Bulma knew exactly how to express how she felt.
"Goku, when I first met you, you were merely a knuckle headed, extremely powerful boy who lived in the wild. You're still extremely powerful and a knuckle head, the only difference is you live in the city," said Bulma. She paused to allow everyone to laugh. "I must confess I didn't think much of you at first. I was mostly hoping you'd protect me from danger as we went on our journey for the Dragon Balls. A job you fulfilled with flying colours. As the years went on however, I started to see you a little differently. I watched you grow into a kind, powerful, and considerate young man. One that I know will always protect me should danger appear and for that I know I'll always be able to love you, despite your many faults like your extreme ignorance."
"Huh, I never knew you thought about me that way," said an amazed Goku.
"Well, if there's nothing more to be said, then by the power invested in me…" the minister was cut off.
"Hold on, I wanna say something," said Goku, struggling to find the right words. "Bulma, you were the first female I ever met and the second person… Um I knew I had to protect you as best I could, especially considering my grandpa taught me how important it was to protect girls… I'm sorry I thought you were a witch when we first met," this caused laughter amongst the crowd. "Over time I started to realise you weren't a witch, you were just extremely smart. Much smarter than I am anyway, as you seem to know a lot of things I don't. Also, your inventions are really cool, and I admire your scary attitude when others try to harm you. I appreciate that you always bring me a lot of food and um, I like you. A lot. That's all I got."
Bulma smiled. It wasn't the perfect wedding speech, but considering who she was marrying, she had a feeling, it was the best she would get.
"By the power invested in me, I pronounce you both husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride," said The Minister.
This was a part Goku was not looking forward to. Bulma had told him about the concept of kissing shortly after he had come to live with her and her family. He thought it was icky and kind of gross, but Bulma was able to convince him that this was an essential thing that married couples did. From here, Goku agreed to kiss her whenever she requested it. She still felt the need to remind him however, that he was not allowed to kiss any other woman. Given that Bulma was the only woman he really liked, and he didn't particularly like the concept of kissing, he was more than happy to agree.
Bulma put her face forward. She had taught Goku that this was a non-verbal sign that she wanted a kiss, so he leaned forward and kissed her as the entire crowd cheered for the married couple.
The reception went almost exactly like Bulma had planned. Goku had been so overjoyed by the mountain of food, that he spent nearly the entire night eating instead of socialising with the wedding guests. Bulma didn't mind however as it kept her husband happy. She did however feel it was up to her to talk to the wedding guests. The first people she talked to was her family.
"Congratulations honey," said Dr Briefs.
"Yes, it was a wonderful ceremony. I never knew Goku would be able to come up with such an amazing speech," said Mrs Briefs.
"I'm so proud of you Bulma, I hope I can find the right man one day," said Tights.
"Don't lose hope sis, you still have time," said Bulma.
The next two people Bulma talked to were Chi-chi and Yamcha.
"Thanks for coming guys. I hope you guys being here wasn't too awkward," said Bulma.
"Nah it's fine. I have a feeling you and I weren't going to work anyway, so this is probably for the best," said Yamcha.
"And in hindsight I probably should've known better then to propose to a guy I barely knew," said Chi-chi.
"Well, I'm happy for you two. I just hope Yamcha doesn't go back to his old ways of being a bandit," said Bulma.
"Oh, I don't need to do that. Besides, I've found a much better way to make a living," said Yamcha.
"Really, how's that?" asked Bulma.
"I'm playing Professional Baseball," said Yamcha.
"And he's already planning on buying us a house," said an excited Chi-chi.
"Well, your team has a huge advantage, especially considering you're one of the strongest and fastest people on the planet. Hitting a ball with a bat is probably easy for you," stated Bulma.
"Actually, I try to tone it down a little to make the game more exciting. Hitting with the right amount of strength is the tricky part," said Yamcha.
"I'll bet it is," joked Bulma.
Bulma continued to mingle with guests, while Goku continued to consume food. Just as Bulma predicted, Goku ate the three extra wedding cakes on his own. After the reception was over, Bulma requested Goku get into her airship.
"Why? We're we going?" asked Goku.
"You'll see," said Bulma.
Goku had flown to and from the city so often that he was able to figure out where they were going.
"Bulma, why are we heading to Mount Paozu?" asked Goku.
"Just be patient Goku, you'll see once we get there," said Bulma.
They landed and stepped outside.
"Recognise this place Goku?" asked Bulma.
"Yeah, it's where Grandpa and I use to live," said Goku recognising his old small house. "So wait, are we living here after all?"
"Not exactly. I'll admit Goku, I think these mountains are lovely and it's nice and quiet out here, but your old house is kinda small and rustic for me," stated Bulma.
"Then why are we here?" asked Goku again.
"For this," said Bulma pulling a capsule out of the airship.
She clicked the top and threw it, causing a house to pop out of thin air. It wasn't nearly as large as Bulma's home in West City, but there was more than enough room for the two of them and there was plenty of room for more people should they need it.
"Goku, I know how much you want to live out here and since you agreed to live at Capsule Corp so I could continue working, I built this house as a compromise," stated Bulma.
"A compromise for what?" asked Goku.
"This will be a place we can go whenever we want to get away from the city, or I feel I need a quiet place to work. In other words, it can be our weekend and vacation home," said Bulma.
"Uh, what's a vacation? And what's a weekend?" asked Goku.
Bulma slapped herself on the forehead.
"Goku, you know how I'm usually working for most of the week, but then there's a few days when I'm usually at home?" asked Bulma.
"Yeah!"
"The days I'm at home are a weekend. As for what a vacation is, it's when I take an extended break from work and have more time at home!" explained Bulma.
"Oh, I see, so this is like a place someone would go to if they were tired from training and needed to relax?" asked Goku.
"Essentially," said Bulma, knowing that this was likely the best understanding he would have. "But more to the point Goku, this will allow us to live at both my home in West City and your home in Mount Paozu."
"Really?" asked a hopeful Goku.
"Really," said Bulma.
"Wow, thanks Bulma," said Goku picking Bulma up and twirling her around.
"Goku be careful I don't want you to accidently throw me into the air," said Bulma remembering Goku's unnatural level of strength.
"Oh right, sorry," said Goku putting her down.
A year past at which point Goku and Bulma had settled into a workable routine. They would stay in West City on weekdays so Bulma could work, while Goku went else ware to train, and they spent most weekends at their home in Mount Paozu. In this time Goku continued to train vigorously. He didn't want to slack off as he wanted to be strong enough to ensure he could take on the next fighter that challenged him. Goku's biggest challenge however, arrived on a fateful day that saw him and Bulma in a hospital room in west city. Bulma was lying in bed, and she was holding a purple haired, blue-eyed infant in her arms.
"Huh, so that is where babies come from," stated Goku.
When she had first gotten pregnant, Bulma had given Goku the talk on where babies came from. Goku had always been sceptical about this, no matter how many people tried to tell him it was true. But now that he saw Bulma holding their child in her arms, he knew it had to be true.
"Told you I wasn't hiding food or gaining weight," said Bulma annoyed.
"Sorry, my bad," said Goku scratching his head.
"Goku, next time I explain something to you, just trust that I know what I'm talking about," insisted Bulma.
"Well, I did say that you know a lot of stuff I don't so I'll try my best to not argue next time," laughed Goku.
"Thank god," thought Bulma.
"So, this is our son? Right?" asked Goku.
"Yes Goku, this is our son," said Bulma.
"Wow, that's amazing," said Goku.
"Glad you think so, because there's still one more important thing we need to do," said Bulma.
"What's that?" asked Goku.
"We need to name him," said Bulma.
"Name him?" asked Goku.
"Yes Goku we need to give our child a name. Is there anything you'd like to name him?" asked Bulma.
There was indeed a name Goku wanted to give his son. He just hoped Bulma would agree.
