Several days had passed, and Giovanni's wounds had completely healed. Nighttime soon came. Rosa walked outside, staring up at the starry night sky. The moon was large and bright, the only illuminating the city. Giovanni soon followed after her. He held a red rose in between his teeth. Rosa couldn't help but laugh at this.
"You're so cheesy sometimes, Gio," she said with a giggle. Giovanni rubbed the back of his head. Suddenly, he let out a cry of pain; the stem of the rose had thorns on it, and it hurt him. He quickly took the rose out of his mouth. Rosa laughed once more. Giovanni looked sheepish.
"I-I found this in one of the gardens. It is for you, mia bella rosa. I hope they didn't mind me taking it..." Giovanni said. Rosa smiled, still amused by him.
"Still... it's a beautiful flower. Thank you, dear," Rosa said, taking the rose from him. Giovanni simply nodded. He joined her in stargazing, both of them deep in thought. After a few moments of silence, Rosa turned to face Giovanni.
"Giovanni... what was it like in Italy?" she asked.
"Not too different from Spain, really," he replied. "Actually, all of Europe seems similar to me in ways, I suppose. Africa and the Middle East, on the other hand, seem so much more... unique, in comparison." he sighed. "I admit that I'm already beginning to miss my days as a sailor. Traveling across the world, meeting new people, experiencing different food and drink... I'd love to take you out to sea one day, Rosa."
Rosa gave him a sincere smile. "I'd like that very much, Gio," she said. She paused for a second. "I know this might sound silly and that it doesn't have much use in Spain, but... could you teach me some Italian? It's a fascinating language."
"Heh, of course, Rosa," Giovanni cleared his throat. "Let's see... to greet someone, I would usually say 'ciao, come stai?'. Which means 'hello, how are you?', of course. And you reply 'sto bene, grazie', which means 'I am fine, thank you'. Another phrase is..."
After a few minutes of giving Rosa lessons in his language, both went back to stargazing. Giovanni looked to Rosa, speaking to her.
"Do you dance, amore?" he asked. Rosa blushed.
"Well, I... not since I was a child, no. But why would you want to dance without music, anyway?"
"I was just curious. If you want, I could give you some lessons..."
"You already gave me lessons in your language, didn't you?"
Giovanni chuckled. "Yes, true."
"Well... all right, then. But I'd rather do it with music playing."
Rosa and Giovanni got up. Giovanni extended a hand to her, and she took it. Giovanni then placed his other hand around Rosa's waist. "Now, put your hand on my shoulder. Watch my steps closely. We'll try to follow a simple pattern..." Rosa nodded, listening closely to the rest of Giovanni's instructions. They danced for several minutes; Rosa felt she was beginning to understand it towards the end. Giovanni finished the dance with a dip. Rosa blushed again, staring into his eyes. They both held a gaze, then Giovanni kissed her. She blushed a brighter red. Giovanni broke the kiss.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't-"
"No, no," Rosa interrupted. "Don't be." A smirk appeared on Rosa's face, now seeming more assertive. She grabbed ahold of him again, kissing him passionately. Giovanni was the one blushing this time. It lasted almost a minute, until finally Rosa stopped.
"Marry me."
"W-what?" Giovanni stuttered.
"Marry me, Giovanni."
"W-well... not that I'd mind that, but don't you think we should wait at least a few more months? I... well..." he sighed. "Of course I'll marry you, amore. We just have to prepare, first."
"Obviously," Rosa replied. She paused. "You're right about me being so sudden about it, but I'm just... so in love with you, Gio. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. And if it's fine with you, I want to start a family."
Giovanni smiled.
