Chapter 13.
It's Over Now!
Later on…
9:45 pm…
Fontana had Domhler tied up with a chain around a beam that supported the shed in which both cop, and criminal were in. Fontana then turned himself around, and before he knew it, Domhler suddenly found himself face to face with a scowling Fontana.
"You're gonna tell me where Wakko Warner is. And now!"
Domhler suddenly spat in Fontana's face. And all that did was make the cop backslap him.
"Tell me!" Fontana shouted.
"Even if I did, you'll find him dead." Domhler suddenly scoffed.
Fontana immediately stomped on Domhler's leg, making the man yell in pain.
"Wrong answer! Where is he!? Tell me! NOW!"
Domhler immediately looked up at the cop. "He'll be dead by the time you find him."
Fontana then turned around and walked away from Domhler, and only for him to come back to him, and with a crowbar in his hand. Then, without warning, Fontana suddenly wacked the crowbar onto Domhler's leg. Suddenly, the criminal yelled in extreme pain as he felt the crowbar hit his leg. Fontana then pressed the flat end of the tool underneath Domhler's chin, lifting his head up until he made eye contact with Fontana.
"I really don't want to do what you want me to; but if you don't tell me where the hell Wakko Warner's at, then I've got more than where that came from! So if I were you; I would tell me where Warner's at! TELL ME!"
Domhler—despite the fact that he had a crowbar pressed against his chin, laughed maniacally.
"You'll never save him! I already told you! I shot him!"
Fontana only scowled as he knelt low and stared at Domhler.
"If that toon boy is dead by the time my Unit finds him, I will definitely kill you. So you better tell me where he is! After all; it's a life for life situation."
Meanwhile…
LAPD detectives Chase, Chaney, and Layton, and Officer Lopez found themselves at the location of an abandoned warehouse in the southern area of Los Angeles. And, they weren't alone. Private Investigators Jasper and Rachel Kell were with them. And so were Forensics, and the LAPD Search and Rescue Unit. Lopez had somehow managed to get everybody inside the perimeter of the abandoned warehouse. As soon as they were in the perimeter, the whole place suddenly swarmed with LAPD cops, all of them searching for Wakko Warner. As they went into the building, Lopez suddenly stopped and looked down at the ground. She immediately turned on her flashlight, and upon seeing what she saw, she immediately notified her teammates.
"I've got ink!"
Suddenly, Layton, Chaney, and Rachel joined her and traced the ink back to the building. Lopez then suddenly gasped.
"He's in the warehouse! I repeat; he's in the warehouse!"
Chaney, on the other hand, saw more ink as as he saw that it led to a cyan blue Lincoln Continental. Then, of all of a sudden, Chaney followed the trail of ink, and soon enough, his hunch was right. He looked up at the inside of the Lincoln Continental, and saw that a figure was sitting in the driver's seat. Immediately, Chaney dispatched his service pistol from his holster and pointed it right at the window of the driver's seat.
"LAPD! Put your hands up now! Put your hands up!"
When he saw that the figure was not responding, Chaney lowered his pistol and suddenly, he yanked the door open, and soon enough, Chaney saw that the figure was not any criminal, but was rather instead, a black colored toon puppy looking child, and that toon was none other than Wakko Ryan Warner! Chaney immediately put his gun back in his holster.
"I found Warner! I found Warner!" Chaney immediately hollered.
And soon enough, Layton, Chase, and Jasper all rushed over to Chaney, and sure enough, they found out that he had indeed found him. Chase suddenly saw that Wakko was unconscious, and saw that the kid's breathing was ragged as he saw Wakko's chest heave with difficulty. Then, both Jasper and Chaney saw why. Jasper immediately knelt down and placed a hand on Wakko's stomach, and then he took it off and realized that Wakko had been shot.
"Wakko? If you can hear me; we're here now. We're here." Jasper suddenly whispered softly.
Chaney immediately radioed for assistance.
"5032 Bobby! We've got a gunshot victim! And he's an underage toon child! He's been shot once center mass! Bullet went through and through! He's got a shallow pulse! We also got a positive on the Lincoln Continental! We have no emergency lights! We're got a Lincoln Continental! Send us some cars! We need these streets shut down! Pronto!"
Suddenly, a voice came back through Chaney's radio.
"Copy that 5032 Bobby. Code Caleb."
All the time Chaney was on his radio, Jasper and Layton moved Wakko—carefully, and steadily, out of the driver's seat, and into the back seat of the Lincoln. Chaney then saw that there was a fob on the dash of the vehicle. Immediately, Chaney reached in and grabbed it.
"Layton! I've got a fob here! If this car starts, you're gonna drive this thing like a bat out of hell and we're gonna get Warner to Saint Joseph Medical Center!"
Chaney immediately got in the driver's seat and pressed the Start/Stop Engine button, and sure enough, the Lincoln started. Chaney immediately lept from the seat and motioned for Layton.
"Get in now! I got Warner!"
Soon enough, both detectives switched spots and as the doors closed, Jasper saw that Layton had not even taken the time to buckle himself up as he suddenly drove off to the hospital. Jasper immediately closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
What the heck just happened? Tell me it's not true.
As he opened his eyes, Jasper saw that what he hoped wasn't true, was in fact, the truth. Wakko had really been shot. And that he was practically left for dead by Domhler. Suddenly, Chase walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, J. It's gonna be alright. He knew exactly what he was doing when this happened to him. Wak ain't tough for nothing. Plus, the worst case scenario ain't gonna play out. He loves his siblings too much to die. He's has too much to lose. The worst case scenario; it's not going to play out."
Jasper then walked over to Rachel, who was trying to keep her composure. He then wrapped his arms around her and hugged her.
"Wakko's got too much to lose Ray," he whispered into Rachel's ear.
"He has us. And he has Yakko, and Dot. Trust me, the worst case scenario is not going to play out. Not with him."
Back at the abandoned storage unit…
Fontana had immediately wacked Domhler's leg yet again when suddenly, he heard a vehicle of some sort pull up the parking lot of the abandoned storage unit. Fontana then turned around and faced the doorway of the shed that both he and Domhler were in. Soon enough, he saw a figure walk in. Fontana immediately pulled out his service pistol and pointed it up at the figure. When the person showed themself, Fontana immediately lowered his pistol and saw that the figure was none other than Skyler Washington.
What the hell is she doing here?
Fontana immediately walked over to her and was about to ask her why she came when she suddenly raised her hand.
"Whatever you're going to say next; please listen to me. We know where Warner's at right now. And probably by now, they already found him."
Fontana immediately looked back at Domhler, then he looked at Washington again.
"That's not gonna save him from what he did to Warner! For God's sake! Skye! Domhler shot him! And because of that, he will most certainly get what he deserves!"
Washington only shook her head.
"No Sarge. We are not doing this. You need to just back off and let us turn Domhler in."
Fontana suddenly scoffed.
"Are you kidding me!? After what I just told about what happened to Wakko Warner!? We cannot turn him in! Plus, I never called it in."
Washington only shook her head again. "Sarge! We're not doing this! Not now!"
Fontana then just ignored her and turned around and walked over to Domhler.
"And you! On the other hand," Fontana hissed.
"You're gonna tell me where Wakko Warner is."
Fontana then picked up the crowbar and slammed it onto Domhler's leg. "Tell me!"
Washington suddenly rushed over to Fontana. "Stop!"
"Tell me!" Fontana shouted at Domhler.
Fontana then slammed it onto Domhler's leg again, making him cry in pain.
"You're gonna tell me. Tell me," he hissed.
"Sarge! Stop!" Washington suddenly yelled.
Suddenly, both Washington, and Fontana's radios went off as Chaney issued an emergency situation.
Pronto!"
"Tell me!" Fontana yelled.
"They found him! Sarge! They found Wakko!" Washington said.
"Is he alive!?" Fontana yelled into his radio.
"Dolan? Is he okay!?" Washington asked.
Chase's radio immediately came back in.
"He's got a pulse. It's shallow. Chaney and Layton are taking him to Saint Joseph Med now. He's been shot once, center mass. The bullet went through and through. He's bleeding. He's been bleeding the whole time. Plus, his blood sugar has dropped too low."
Fontana immediately scowled as he turned around and walked over to Domhler, crowbar in hand. And he immediately wacked Domhler right in the stomach with it.
"YOU SON OF A GUN!"
Washington suddenly rushed back to her immediate boss. "No no no! No!"
"Skye! Skye! Get your hands off of me." Fontana hissed.
Washington only stared at him.
"Sarge! Stop! Just back the heck off! Now! We ARE not doing this! This is not who we are! We found him! So just back off! It's not who we are! It's over now!"
"What do you want me to do? Should I call in Internal Affairs? The Mayor? WB CEO Nora Rita Norita and WB Chairman Ralph Theodore? Let them know that Wakko Ryan Warner's been shot!? Should I bring Kenneth Domhler in and arrest him? Skye. Listen to me… I didn't want you to come here… I didn't tell you to come here!"
"Don't you think that I don't know that?" Washington said.
"I wanted to come here. Not because of this, but because I wanted Wakko found! Because I wanted to stop you from doing something that you can't take back."
Fontana immediately shook his head.
"Who we are? Skye? What did you think that I was going to do with Domhler? Did you really expect me to turn him into the District? Book him in? Arrest him? You knew exactly why I never had any of you come with me."
Washington then pushed Fontana back.
"The reason why I am here is because I know exactly how Yakko and Dot Warner feel about this. They need to testify against Domhler for what happened to their brother, Wakko! You're looking at and talking to a former toon artist who has seen everything that these beloved creations have been through. And now, for Wakko's sake, Sarge? We're going to bring Domhler in. Not because you don't want to, but because it's the right thing. I won't let you kill him!"
Fontana then cleared his throat. "We can't Skyler. It's too late for that. You need to go home."
Washington then shook her head.
"I'm not leaving until I know for sure that you are gonna do what needs to be done. The right way. Plus, you told me that the Warners have grown onto you? If the worst case scenario does play out, this is not what Wakko would want you to do. So, we're bringing him in Sarge! It's the right thing to do."
Fontana scoffed again.
"Ha! The right thing? You wanna talk about the right thing? We're not doing this."
"Yes we are." Washington said.
"We need to; for the Warners' sake! So you're basically telling me that you'll let Yakko and Dot die from broken hearts, and extreme stress!? I've seen what happens to these beloved creations. And it's not pretty! So if you're not going to do what's right, then just back up Sarge and let me do the right thing!"
Suddenly, Washington's words hit Fontana like a car going right through a brick wall. He thought about what she had said. Maybe, just maybe, things were not going to that bad if they did turn Kenneth Domhler in.
Washington then turned herself around.
"Or I'll just let you cross whatever line you wanna cross. But you just remember that you were dragging me to the other side with you. Domhler's still alive. There's a way out of this. We come up with a story. A good story. He ran, he grabbed a weapon. We sell up the chain… please?"
Fontana's face immediately grew rueful as he looked Washington in the eye.
"Okay… okay. We'll bring him in." Fontana whispered.
Fontana immediately gave his service pistol to Washington as he walked over to Domhler and unwrapped the chain around him. As soon as he felt the pressure of the chain around him loosen, Domhler stood up and let Fontana cuff him. And when he was done, Fontana walked over to the entrance of the shed as he told Domhler that he was under arrest.
"Kenneth Domhler; you are under arrest for a quad triple toon murder. Plus you're being charged with sabotage, misconduct, and obstruction of justice. And you're also being charged with the attempted murders of Bartholomew Miguel Cortez, and Yakko William Warner, and, you're also being charged with the abduction of Wakko Ryan Warner, of whom you later on shot and left him for dead amongst other charges. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do will be held against you in a court of law. You also have a right to an attorney. And if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you."
Okay! Not expecting that! Were you!? Welp, the final chapter of Here and Now will be published as soon as I can. Just be warned though, it's gonna be a cliffhanger.
