Doctor Who
A Siren's Song
Chapter Six
Standing on the dock, The Doctor stood between Deidre and a newly awaken Darla. Looking at Deidre, he noticed her eyes widen as she took a step back when she stared at Darla.
The boards creaked on the dock as Darla now stood by the Doctor. She looked into the Timelord's eyes as he stared into hers. After a few moments, the two broke eye contact, and the Doctor spoke up.
"I am glad to see you alive, your different now and while I would like to ask you more questions about this and I assume you have some for me, I don't think this is the right time for that," The Doctor said as he stared back at Deidre.
"True, don't worry about her. Just take Ms. Grant and head back to the bakery. We will be there shortly." Darla said.
Blinking rapidly, Deidre glance around before looking back at Darla. To be in the presence of her elder sister's aura again was both comforting and frightening. She had done some many horrible things towards these people and wondered how her sister would react.
As her whole body shivered and heart race, tears tickled down Deidre's cheeks as she remained still as Darla approached her.
Soon, the two of them were a few inches apart. Shaking her head, Darla smiled as opened her arms. Unsure, Deidre stared at Darla before wrapping her arms around her and burring her head in Darla's chest. Rubbing her back, Darla gently rocked back and forth as a muffled sob escaped from Deidre's lips.
"I'm here," Darla said.
"I have missed you so much," Deidre said, sniffing.
"I'm sorry that I didn't remember sooner."
Pulling away, Deidre shook her head. "No, what matters is that I found you, and you finally remember who you are."
Smiling, Darla hugged Deidre for a while longer before pulling away and sitting on the edge of the dock with Deidre right beside her. Raising her hand, Deidre whirled her finger in a circular motion, and the fog that had once covered the docks slowly disappeared. Darla smiled as she looked up in the night sky at the full moon. As the moonlight reflected off the lake, both sisters sat in silence, enjoying each other's company.
"You'll have to return the people you took," Darla said.
"Of course," Deidre said as she snapped her fingers.
Bubbles filled the lake as a blue light could be seen from the bottom. After a few more moments, the bubbles stop but the light continued to glow.
"The process has begun. They'll return in a few days, maybe sooner." Deidre said.
Darla nodded, sighing contently, yet her eyes still grew sad, blinking away a few tears. Deidre knew why. Laying her head on Darla's shoulder, tears trickled down her cheeks. While the two of them were finally together, one person was still missing.
"Dana..."Darla whispered.
"If we found each other, I know we can find her." Deidre replied.
Nodding, Darla smiled as she rose to her feet. Looking up at the stars a little while longer, she took a deep breath.
"Alright then," Darla said as she turned to Deidre and extend her hand out to her. "Come on, let's go to my bakery."
"Bakery?" Deidre asked, taking a hold of her sister's hand.
"Yup, I have loads of things to tell you," Darla said as Deidre rose to her feet.
The two left the dock and crossed the street. Deidre looked over at the building that read Darla's bakery. She smiled. She couldn't wait to see what was inside. Skipping ahead, Deidre made it up to the door where The Doctor and Jo waited. Just as Darla was about to head inside, she stopped as her eyes flickered at a familiar presence.
Looking back at Darla, Deidre tilted her head.
"Is there something wrong?" Deirdre asked as she took a step toward her.
"No, why don't you go inside. I'll be there shortly." Darla replied.
Nodding, Diedre stepped inside the bakery while Darla remained still. Her nose wrinkled at the dark stench that flooded her nostrils as Garret Thompson emerged from the street.
"You're out late tonight. Is everything okay?" Garret asked.
"Yes, I came back from a stroll," Darla pushed through her teeth.
"Must I remind you it's not safe to be out this time of night."
"I will remember to be careful,"
Garret nodded as he peaked through the window, seeing Mr. Smith and Josephine.
"Ah, he's finished his shift. I guess the siren spared him,"
"I guess so," Darla replied, forcing herself to remain calm.
"Well, you have a pleasant night."
"You as well,"
Darla watched as Mr. Thompson walked behind her and continued on down the street. The moment he was no longer in view, Darla balled up her fist and took a deep breath. After a few moments, she unclench her hands and walked inside.
A smile spread across Darla's lips as Deidre sat with Jo eating some left-over apple danishes. The Doctor slipped away and stood by Darla. Not wanting to interrupt, the two walked up stairs.
"Your aura tells me you're not human," Darla said.
"I'm not. I go by the name The Doctor. I am a Timelord from the planet Gallifrey." The Doctor replied.
"I was told stories of your people when I was a child, the legends of the great lords of time,"
Reaching the end of the hall, Darla sighed as she looked outside the window at the night sky.
"What about you? You're not human either," The Doctor said,
Darla looked back at him with a smile. "I am Darla Zarland from the planet Sirena." Darla replied with a slight bow.
"Ah, the Siren planet, your people came here before," The Doctor said as he paused and scratched his chin. "If I remember correctly, they lured sailors to their deaths by their power of their song."
"That was long ago. We have grown and found we can live among the humans without causing their demise."
"Something tells me you didn't come here willingly."
Sighing, Darla forced a smile across her lips as she extends out her hand. "Let me show you,"
Taking a hold of her hand, they both closed their eyes as a cerulean glow outlined both of their bodies.
"Contact," the two said in unison.
Multiple images flash through The Doctor's mind. From Darla, Deidre and Dana's arrival to Crimson Bay to the tragic incident that split them apart and the man behind it all, Garret Thompson.
After a few moments, the cerulean glow disappeared. The Doctor opened his eyes. Blinking for a bit as he shook his head and cleared his throat. Normally, he could shake off such horrible things, but the fading image of Garret pulling Dana away from Darla as she screamed at the top of her lungs refused to leave him. Yet as he looked at Darla, her calm demeanor struck him as odd.
"I'm surprised at how calm you are. If it were me, I don't think I could ever trust these people ever again,"
Darla let go of The Doctor's hand and looked back at the night sky.
"I have to be calm and set an example for my sisters, but when the time comes, I am afraid my rage will consume me and not even you will recognize me." Darla replied.
"A banshee."
"Not a pleasant word among my people,"
Sighing, The Doctor place a hand on Darla's shoulder.
"We will deal with that when the times comes, but for now we need to work on finding Dana."
Darla nodded, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath. When she opened them, a sigh left her lips as she shook her head.
"I can't feel her presence... does it mean she is?" Darla said, refusing to say the word.
"Let's not jump to conclusions. You've just unlocked a side of you that hasn't been used in a while. The Doctor paused. "Give it time."
Darla nodded. Turning around, she noticed Jo and Deidre yawning as they headed to their rooms.
" Shall we turn in as well?" The Doctor suggested.
"I will in a little while," Darla said.
Nodding, The Doctor headed back to his room while Darla turned back to the window enjoying the full moon's company.
Dana...where are you?
