Doctor Who

A Siren's Song

Chapter Seven

The skies still held a gray tint as the waters churned against the shores. Garrett Thompson left his home like he always did and entered the pub. He was welcomed with pats on the back of his fellow fishermen, along with a pint from the bartender.

After talking with the guys, Garret swallowed the last if his pint and set the mug on the counter. After a deep breath, he turned around and headed into the next door.

Shutting the door behind him, he walked down the hall and stopped at a room where two heavy set men sat guard. They nodded the Garrett before unlocking the door.

Walking inside, a man sitting at a desk in the corner counting diamonds looked up at Garrett.

"Mr. Thompson," the man said.

"Charlie, how's it looking?" Garrett asked.

"If this keeps up, we should have enough for many years to come," Charlie said, followed with a smile.

Patting Charlie on the back, Garret walked over and bent down in front of a cell where a young blond-haired woman curled in a fetal position. From her mattered hair to the many bruises on her arms and legs, she still breathed. She moved her head, looking into the eyes of Garret's eyes as tears trickled down her cheeks, forming into small diamonds as they hit the ground.

Crawling away and huddling in a corner, Garrett scooped up the diamonds, smiling.

"Thank you, my dear," Garrett mused as he left the room.

Sniffing the young woman rocking back and forth hugging her self the young woman took a shuttered breath. The woman closed her eyes.

Sister, please help me

Meanwhile, at the bakery, Darla was in the back cooking away while Joe and Deidre you're serving the customers. From pouring cups of coffee and tea to offering a danish or croissants. Once all the orders for done, Darla emerged from the kitchen where Deidre ran over and wrapped her arms around her. Smiling, Darla sighed. It felt nice to be greeted this way.

"She's a quick learner," Jo said.

The bell on the door rang as The Doctor walked in. Deidre pulled away from her sister and poured the Timelord a cup of coffee. She then places a jar of sugar cubes and a cup of cream on the counter before he sat down.

"Ah thank you, my dear," The Doctor said, dropping a few cubes in the cup along with some creamer. After a nice stir The Doctor took a sip, a smile spread across his lips as the brown liquid eased his woes.

"Nothing beats a nice cup of coffee. For the answer to a rough day," The Doctor said.

"No leads?" Darla asked.

"Not a single one. I can't even find Mr. Thompson, which is strange, for he's always around."

As the bell on the door chimed, an odor whiff passed Darla's nose that she hadn't smelled in a long time. Looking at the door, two heavy men walked inside. One had stains on his blue shirt while the other had disheveled hair, jeans and half button-up shirt.

"Who are they?" The Doctor asked.

"Jason and John, or as everyone calls them, Garrett Thompson's goon squad." Darla said.

"Shouldn't they be called a duo?" The Doctor asked.

"No, there is one more Charlie, but he must be busy."

The odor, along with their mere presence, caused some customers to clear out of the bakery, while others huddled in the corner hoping they wouldn't look in their direction. Jo held her breath while The Doctor remained casual, taking another sip from his cup.

Walking out from behind the counter, Deidre approached both men with a smile. "Welcome. May I take your order?" she asked in the most cheerful voice.

John laughed. While Jason looked Deidre up and down and suckled his lips.

"I am afraid not because your boss knows what we like," Jason reply with a creepy smile.

Just as Jason was about to touch Deidre's arm, Darla slammed down two boxes on the table. Followed by two thermoses filled to the top with coffee.

"A dozen danishes, croissants and two thermoses of coffee." Darla said sternly.

John smiled as he reached the counter. He puckered up his lips along with making a kissing sound, while Darla's face remained neutral. But The Doctor glanced down at Darla's hands that grip the counter.

"That'll be $21.50." Darla said sternly.

John turned around to Jason. "Pay the woman."

Jason walked up to the counter and pulled out $22. He slammed it down on the counter with a smile.

"Keep the change," John said as he grabs the thermoses.

"Jason grabs the boxes." John commanded.

"You got a nice server there," Jason said, looking back at Deidre, who forced a smile across her lips.

"Please leave. You don't want to keep Mr. Thompson waiting," Darla said.

Nodding, Jason grab both of the boxes and left behind John.

The moment they were out sigh, Jo let out a breath while The Doctor pushed away his coffee. "I'm not thirsty anymore."

Deidre looked back to Darla as she continued staring at the door.

"Sis, are you okay?"

Jerking her mind back to the present, Darla looked back at her sister.

"I am fine. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I am fine, but their aura were just as dirty as they looked."

Darla merely nodded. "They are always dirty,"

Sighing, Darla shook her head, but the moment she touched the money on the counter, her whole body tingled as her eyes flicker. Her eyes widen as a voice echoed through her mind.

Sister, please help me

The voice repeated. All Darla could see was darkness as the image of the bakery faded from view. As the voice grew louder, a tear trickled down her cheek the moment she recognized the voice.

Dana

Shaking her head, the image of the bakery returned, but not before pulling away from a pair of bars. Blinking her eyes, Darla's mind returned. She looked around and noticed the bakery was empty with only The Doctor, Jo and Deidre around, her all of them looking at her with concern in eyes.

"What did you see?" The Doctor asked.

"I heard Dana, but I also saw bars," Darla replied.

Looking down at the money on the counter, she noticed something glistening between her fingers. Picking it up, everyone looked.

"Wow, that's a small diamond," Jo said.

"It's not a diamond but a crystal, a Sirlenaian one, in fact." The Doctor said Correcting Jo

"Are they rare?" Jo asked.

"They are only form when a Sirlenaian is under great stress." The Doctor said.

Deidre looked down the moment she heard those words. Darla approached Deidre as she leaned her head on her sister's shoulder before looking at the crystal.

"Do you think we are too late...I mean, could she be?"

"No, all it means is that we have to act quickly."

After a few moments, Darla walked outside pacing. Deidre sat down, watching her sister's aura change from blue to reddish orange. She tried her best to swallow her tears and her worry, but she couldn't, for she didn't know what she should do.

Looking at The Doctor, Jo remembered what he told her about the conversation he and Darla had and while she wanted to go out there and comfort her, she knew it wasn't for her to do so. The Doctor walked up to Jo and handed her a piece of paper before patting her shoulder. The two stared at each other for a moment before he walked out of the bakery to join Darla.

Opening the piece of paper, Jo skimmed over the note:

Jo,

I have a hunch where Dana might be. If she is there and we save her, I am at a lost at what to do next. For I am confused, Jo and that scares me. So please keep Deidre safe and call-in backup, because I am not sure how this is going to end.

Jo folded the piece of paper and placed it back in her pocket. She looked up at the Doctor who stared back at her from outside before looking away.

Deidra stared at Darla, who looked away from her sister as she continued pacing. When they were young, Darla was always the calm one. She would also set back and watch before planning anything. With her regaining her memories and Dana in trouble, she felt that her sister's anger was her fault.

Feeling a hand on her shoulder, she looked to Jo and who eyes held sadness within in them while a small spread across her lips.

"I understand my sister's anger. I feel it too, but..." Deidre trailed off.

"If you hadn't of taking those people, things would have been different?" Jo finished for her.

"Yeah,"

"If you didn't, then we would never be here to help you, and Darla would of never remember who she is," Jo said as she sat down beside Deidre as she set the phone on the table. "It's funny how things happen for a reason and this time it's for the better."

Deidre nodded now; a smile spread across her lips. . She felt better knowing that, yet she couldn't help but worry about what would happen if her sister lost control. She didn't want to save one sister, only to lose another.

Shaking her head, Deidre cleared her mind as she noticed Jo picking up the receiver.

"Who are you calling?" Deidre asked Jo.

"Remember when I talked to you about my friends from UNIT?" Jo asked.

Deidre nodded.

"Well, I am gonna call them because we may need their help." Jo said, picking up the receiver.

Outside, Darla paced and forth, taking a deep breath. The more she thought about Garrett Thompson and the abuse he put Dana through, the more it infuriated her. She tried her best to push it to the back of her mind, but it refused to stay here. No matter how hard she tried to push the anger she felt in the back of her mind, it refused.

Looking up, The Doctor who looked right at her. She stopped moving only for him to walk towards the street and noticed for her to follow.

"Come on, let go for a walk," The Doctor said.

Nodding, Darla joined the doctor as they continued to walk down the street. For a while, neither of them said a word as they continued walking. A warm breeze brushed across their skin and played with their hair. It was until they were a few blocks away from the bakery that The Doctor spoke up.

"I still must commend you for your temperament, but I can see that it's crumbling. It must be hard for you to get your memory back, only to know those you love have been put in danger from the very town you trusted for years."

"Yes, I can't stop thinking about what they did, especially him," Darla said.

The Doctor eyes narrowed as he witnessed Darla's aura turn a reddish orange as she balled up her fists and grit her teeth. She had every right to be angry at those who made her life torture. especially him. Normally he would feel remorse for the humans involve but not this time for even he felt anger as well.

"I take it you keep you your emotions locked away often?" The Doctor asked.

"Yes, only now does it wish to bust out." Darla said.

"Just like a bottle, when shaken for too long and you open the lid and all its contents come out."

Darla stared at him, trying to understand the metaphor which prompted The Doctor to shake his head.

"What I am trying to say is that you should never hold in your feelings for long periods of time. For the result will undoubtfully hurt you along with many others." The Doctor said.

"What do you think I should do?" Darla asked.

"For now, I would say take a deep breath and focus on the task at hand."

Stopping, Darla closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Pushing out the air, she tucked her rage back in the corner of her mind.

"I always feared I would succumb to my rage, but now I don't care. All I want to do is find Dana and make sure she is safe." Darla said, her mind somewhat at ease.

"Then we should get started." The Doctor said, pointing to the pub in front of them.

Darla looked upon the old pub and noticed the two fish hooks on the sign that read Fishermen's' Hole.

"With this place being a frequent hangout for almost all the men in town, it only makes sense that Dana should be here." "The question is where?"

Darla's eyes flickers as she held up her hand and waved it in front of her. The Doctor nodded when they both noticed a weak cerulean aura circle around the building.

"Let's find out."
