As Moze and Smoke entered the bridge, Lilith would be talking with Ava and Tannis before the three turned to the Vault Hunters.
"About time. From what I can tell, J contacted you Moze?" Lilith asked watching as Moze nodded her head.
"Not as colorful as Tyreen's though...but I would say just as annoying," Smoke commented as he walked past Moze.
"So we all got a message?" Lilith asked sighing heavily while shaking her head. "So what do you both want to do? I won't hold any hard feelings if you want to quit now,"
"Quit? Nah. I'm staying to the very end. If I left now, Corah would not let me hear the end of it. She'd make my ears bleed...and then some," Smoke answered earning a faint chuckle from Tannis as well as Lilith and Ava.
"What about you soldier? You wanna keep going or quit here?" Lilith asked looking at Moze.
"I'm going to keep going. I want to talk to J face to face...and I can't do that with Tyreen still alive," Moze answered earning a chuckle from Smoke who nodded his head in agreement.
"We ALL have something to say to our former teammate...but I agree that you got first dibs. Agreed boss?" Smoke asked looking at Lilith who nodded her head in agreement. "Than we are all in agreement. Let's get this mission going! We got asses to kick!"
The Crimson Raiders gave a light cheer before Smoke nodded and turned to face Moze as he nudged his head for her to follow. The two turn and leave the bridge with Smoke taking the lead.
"The final key is charged, so let's get back to DeLeon and get to the machine," Smoke said glancing at Moze for a second with a smile.
-Nekrotafeyo: Typhon's Hideout-
As the two arrived at the first vault hunter's hideout, they immediately made their way to the pedestals to find not only DeLeon but also Tannis standing beside him.
"Damn girl how'd you get here so fast?" Smoke asked with a raised brow in which the historian merely giggled while looking at DeLeon. "... never mind..."
"Vault Hunters! Time to see what this Machine can do! Go ahead, put in the last Vault Key.
Smoke nodded his head slightly before walking up to the last pedestal and placed the Vault Key upon it. All their attention was immediately shifted to the large doors on the other side as they opened slowly.
"Oh, my," Tannis and Smoke said in unison.
"Well, let's get to it. We got a universe to save!" DeLeon suggested as a hard light bridge took form in front of them allowing the Vault Hunters, and historian, access to the Machine.
"Ah, I see. Now those connections between the Vaults make sense. The Vaults on Promethea and Eden-6 must be the power sources for this Machine. Intriguing," Tannis said looking around as she made her way to the next platform.
"Wow, you're smart," DeLeon complimented.
"Bit of an understatement, don't you think? " Tannis said with a soft chuckle and a faint blush.
"Ha! And you know who you are. That's a rare thing in this universe," DeLeon pointed out.
"...I can... agree to that," Smoke agreed softly while gripping his left hand tightly as Tannis cleared her throat and took lead.
"A dream come true...but we must focus. The first step is to locate the Machine's control console," Tannis said clearing her throat.
"Them Eridians never did anything small, did they? Though I guess you do need a planet-sized machine to seal up the entire planet!" DeLeon commented.
As they entered the Machine, Smoke's eyes grew wide as he scanned his surroundings with his visor.
"This place looks fucking awesome!" Smoke shouted while Moze made her way to the console before looking it over.
It did not take long before Smoke looked to Tannis to see her glowing. This caused the inventor to blink his eyes in confusion.
"Babe. You're glowing," Smoke spoke up gaining the historian's attention and seeing her blush.
"Oh stop it," Tannis said blushing faintly.
"No, you really are glowing," DeLeon agreed compelling Tannis to look at herself while Moze turned to face the Siren.
Tannis' tattoos would be glowing a brilliant orange.
"Fascinating. Perhaps Sirens had some hand in constructing this Machine!" Tannis spoke looking to DeLeon who smiled and nodded his head in agreement.
"You know what? You remind me of Leda," DeLeon spoke causing Tannis' eyes to go wide.
"Catch me, Vault Hunter. I swoon!" Tannis spoke leaning her head back with eyes closed and hand upon her head while Smoke's left eye twitched before she straightened herself up and cleared her throat again. "If only I had a decade to study this machine. Its design is mind-gasmingly complex, but I do believe its primary operation to be fairly straightforward. To start, I require the Pandora Vault Key,"
"...we're supposed to take the keys with us?" Smoke asked looking between the historian and the first Vault Hunter.
"No sweat kiddo. I go 'em," DeLeno spoke digging in his bag and pulling out the Vault Keys.
"Typhon for the clutch," Smoke said as DeLeon handed Tannis the Pandora Key.
Once Tannis was given the key, she nodded and made her way to the console ad placed Pandora's key upon it followed by bringing both hands to its structure. As she raised her hand to the console, it began to glow the same color as Tannis.
"Interesting. Now, it seems we must offer the remaining Keys to the guardian statues. Then the Machine will draw power from the Vaults on those planets, closing Pandora," Tannis explained while Smoke was taking notes on his holo file just as the console faded away.
"Then next up is Promethea," DeLeon spoke turning to the statue on the right and using his whip to swing himself toward it.
Smoke was quiet before he followed Typhon along with Moze while Tannis stayed behind.
"Good thing I didn't tell my daughter about this place...but be careful. Knowing the Eridians, there's bound to be Guardians around so stay sharp," DeLeon warned as he continued to take the lead.
"I'm not too worried about the Guardians. I got their armor and shields figured out. Iron Bear can handle them and then some," Smoke commented with a soft chuckle. "Ain't that right Moze?"
Moze simply nodded her head as they made their way to the next statue. It did not take long before Smoke's radar went off to tell the group that there were enemies nearby. The inventor raised his left hand, causing it to shift into its arm cannon mode which was a signal for Moze to hop into her mech. Moze nodded and jumped up to enter Iron Bear Mark II and ready herself.
"Enemies inbound," Smoke spoke causing DeLeon to ready their weapons.
Moze advanced while Smoke stayed behind with DeLeon taking crack shots at any Guardians that were behind Iron Bear. While Iron Bear had most of the Guardians distracted, it did not stop them from attacking the others. Smoke only chuckled at this while firing a beam of energy from his arm cannon and lashing it out at the nearest Guardian. As soon as the beam touched the Guardian, it was cut in half like a hot knife through warm butter. It took only a few minutes to clear out the Guardians with Smoke scanning the landscape for any other possible enemies.
"Alright it's clear," Smoke called out as his arm cannon shifted back to normal allowing everyone to relax slightly while making their way to a pedestal.
"Hey, that looks like one of the statues your scientist was talkin' about. So let me just..." DeLeon spoke placing the Promethea vault key onto the Pedestal and watched as the structure opened up followed by an Eridian statue rising out of the pond in front of them.
"The Promethea Vault has been activated," Tannis notified on the Echo-3.
"This way, Vault Hunter! Next stop, Eden-6. 'Paradise' my hairy ass! But it does have its charms. Went skinny dipping in a saurian tar pit once. I was hairless for a month!"DeLeon explain as he started to guide the vault hunters to the next area.
"There's lasering ya know. Make ya hairless permanently," Smoke commented causing DeLeon to chuckle.
"Who wants to be hairless for the rest of their lives? Even if it's in certain areas," DeLeon said with a chuckled.
"...I'll give you that man," Smoke said with a chuckle.
As they continued, it did not take long before they ran into another group of Guardians earning an annoyed groan from Smoke.
"Well...they ain't called guardians for no reason," Smoke said softly to himself while shaking his head before looking to Moze. "Let's bust out Iron Bear X: Sentinal variant!"
Moze nodded her head seeing it would make this go much faster since DeLeon had all the keys on him. Smoke hopped up while Iron Bear opened up allowing the two to switch seats and morph Mark II into X. As soon as Iron Bear shifted into Iron Bear X, it immediately turned into the Sentinel variant due to the fusion. DeLeon looked at this in awe before watching Iron Bear X begin its slaughter of the guardians with ease due to the floating guns around the soldier's mech.
"Now that's a mech!" DeLeon commented before firing off a few rounds at any Guardians who charged at him with his shotgun.
After a few minutes of fighting, the Vault Hunters arrived at a pedestal causing Deleon to walk up and readout for the other two.
"Huh, this glyph says...to reveal...the steps. Guess it means use that switch," DeLeon spoke looking up at Iron Bear X.
Smoke looked at DeLeon then to what seemed like the path they had to take them back at the legendary vault hunter.
"...why not just fly to the area? Sounds like cheating but the easier the better," Smoke said with a shrug while placing their hand down to DeLeon.
"Works for me. If it makes this faster then I'm all in," DeLeon said hoping onto Iron Bear's hand as the mech lifted the small Vault Hunter off the ground and flew to the next area.
As they reached a cavern, flamming pillars spawned out of the ground with bandits coming out of them.
"What the hell is this?" DeLeon questioned with Iron Bear placing the legendary vault hunter onto its shoulder.
"Cool trick, huh Dad? Say hello to my new family!" Tyreen answered on the Echo.
"Pfft easy," Smoke said with a chuckle.
"Don't jinx it," Moze said narrowing her eyes and looking at Smoke who only laughed.
"Fine fine," Smoke said in defeat while Iron Bear X flew forward with each weapon shooting at the bandits while the mech itself stayed still even if a Goliath was present.
Even as the CoV were wiped out in a few seconds, a group of Guardians started to appear which immediately were being gunned down by Iron Bear's artillery. With the coast clear, they continued only to come face to face with a stream of light.
"Holy baloney...would ya look at that!" DeLeon spoke hoping off Iron Bear X and walking to the stream.
"A lift...cool," Smoke said with a nod as DeLeon went into it causing the legendary vault hunter to fly into the next room.
Iron Bear X merely flew up to meet with Deleon who made his way to the pedestal and place the Eden-6 vault key. This caused the pedestal to open up before earning a nod from DeLeon.
"The Machine nearly has enough power to seal Pandora! Keep going!" tannis notified on the echo.
"Last one, Vault Hunters. This way," DeLeon spoke making his way to the final pedestal.
It took a few seconds before the group arrived at the last area even with Tyreen dropping in more bandits to try and stop them. While Deleon was speaking to his daughter, Iron Bear used itself as a shield while gunning them down. As soon as they reached the final pedestal, Deleon placed the vault key while Iron Bear stood guard.
"The Nekrotafeyo statue! Oh boy...once I offer the last key, you better hold onto your keister!" Deleon warned as he placed the last vault key down on the pedestal causing the same events to take place.
"All the connections to the Vaults are activated! Return to me, fair Typhon! Vault Hunters, you may...come too," Tannis exclaimed with a faint cough.
"...this is bullshit..." Smoke whispered to himself while Moze chuckled faintly.
"We'll take the shortcut to Tannis," Moz said as Iron Bear placed its hand down for DeLeon to hop back on.
DeLeon nodded his head before walking on the mech's hand only to be placed upon its shoulder once more. Once Deleon was on Iron Bears' shoulder, the mech flew toward Tannis' destination only for bandits to spawn under them. Smoke scuffed at this and allowed Moze to gun them down the bandits paying them little mind. As they arrived in front of Tannis, Smoke hoped out of Iron Bear causing it to shift back to its Mark II.
"The Vaults are all connected, but it hasn't activated yet. Pandora is still opening," Tannis explained with her arms folded under her bust.
"Maybe it needs a Siren's touch," Lilith said standing beside Tannis with her hands on her hips.
"...when did you all get here?" Smoke asked with a raised brow.
"Tannis asked for them to meet up...and since Ava is a Siren...she came along," Moze explained earning a nod from Smoke.
"Makes sense," Smoke said with a nod.
"Ah! Then touch it I shall! As a nihilist said on his deathbed, here goes nothing!" Tannis referenced with a smile as she walked up to the console and placed her hands by the console causing its glow to brighten. "I understand now!"
Her friends watched before the Machine began to come alive and glow a brilliant gold.
"Would you look at that!" DeLeon exclaimed gaining everyone else's attention.
"Tannis...you good?" Smoke asked looking to the historian.
"Yes! So much power...and I am the conduit!" Tannis said with a wide smile.
"Look! Pandora's closing!" Ava shouted.
"Alright!" DeLeon cheered while Smoke narrowed his eyes.
"Not gonna lie but this seems all too easy...especially if Tyreen knows we're here. Although she doesn't know about it...it doesn't take a lot of brains to figure out what's going on right under her nose," Smoke explained while gripping his left hand into a fist. "We might have to bust out the Turret variant..."
"Yeah...I'm gonna have to put a stop to that," Tyreen said as CoV began to pour in all around them.
"Ava. Protect Tannis," Lilith commanded while pulling out her assault rifle.
"Got it," Ava spoke before putting a phase bubble around Tannis and herself.
"Fucking called it! Let's go!" Smoke shouted while jumping back while Iron Bear opened up for the inventor to enter.
As soon as Smoke was inside Iron Bear, Moze immediately pressed the fusion button causing it to morph into its turret form. Unlike before, the turret had mini guns on its sides to protect its weak points while its main gun was replaced with a single Ion Beam Cannon.
"Knowing Tyreen she'll be sending in an Anointed...or even multiple," Smoke warned hopping on the small guns as he swayed his hands about swiftly. "So be ready to fire that cannon...just watch where you're aiming alright?"
"Starlight! Don't do this!" DeLeon pleaded.
"We left this place behind. Went to Pandora to become Vault Hunters ourselves. We'd open the Vault of Vaults and become the biggest stars in the galaxy," Tyreen spoke.
"Tyreen, listen to me! This won't end the way you think it will! Trust me!" DeLeon continued while shooting a bandit square in the face.
"They seem so small now, our dreams. Not befitting a god. Now I'm gonna devour every last star in the universe. One by one...until nothing shines...but for me and my lover of course. Have to remake the universe somehow right?" Tyren added with a chuckle.
Once Tyreen finished her say, three Anointeds appeared causing Moze to turn the Ion Beam cannon and open fire catching only two of them with the last one jumping out of the way. Moze groaned at this while Smoke chuckled causing all miniguns to aim at the lone Anointed and started to gun the lone warrior down. It did not take long before Moze fired a second shot forcing it to fly backward while turning into Eridian and crashing into the wall. Eventually, the bandits stopped coming with Iron Bear beginning to scan their surroundings.
"Almost...done..." Tannis said narrowing her eyes.
"She's here..." Lilith pointed out as Tyreen appeared over the group with Iron Bear aiming at the Calypso.
"If she's here..." Smoke spoke before his eyes widened. "LOOK FOR DREAD NOW!"
A second later, Iron Bear shook violently revealing Dread firing a fully powered beam down at Moze's mech with shock completely shutting down the machine. Smoke looked around and started to flip switches to restart it along with Moze while Dread hopped off Iron Bear and land behind Tyreen who had just crushed the crystal. Lilith fired a single round at Tyreen in which Dread brought his left hand in front of her to block the bullet. Tyreen took this chance to teleport and reappear in front of Lilith to wrap her right hand around the Crimson Raiders leader's neck while lifting her off the ground.
"Haven't we done this before, Lil? I'm over it," Tyreen said with a smirk.
That was until a laser whip wrapped around Tyreens neck and pulled her away from Lilith causing the Crimson Raider leader to collapse to the ground to catch her breath. Dread turned to DeLeon and glared at him while Tyreen got to her knee looking at her father.
"Hiya, starlight," DeLeon spoke holding the whip with both hands.
Tyreen looked at the whip and tried to break from it and even teleport but to no avail.
"Let me go!" Tyreen shouted as Dread lunged toward DeLeon only to be blasted in the back by Smoke causing the fighter to fly over the legendary vault hunter.
"Not so fast buddy. We got a score to settle man," Smoke said walking over to DeLeon now back to back.
"I let you go once, and see how that turned out?" DeLeon said narrowing his eyes at his daughter.
"You scared old man! This is your fault! You kept us here when the universe should have been ours!" Tyreen shouted while getting to her feet and beginning to pull her father toward her.
"I gave you what I could," DeLeon replied holding his ground.
"I don't care! I'm gonna take what's mine!" Tyreen continued before finally wrapping her right hand around her father's throat and lifting him off the ground.
"Old man!" Smoke shouted turning his back to his old friend who took this chance to jump toward the inventor's direction.
"I'm sorry starlight," DeLeon spoke bringing out a grenade in his right hand and triggering it.
The legendary vault hunter was released by Tyreen and fell to the ground but what came next was the Calypso holding the explosion in both hands. While Tyreen was absorbing the explosion, Smoke was punched by Dread and launched into Iron Bear's body with a loud crash followed by a thud. Tyreen finished absorbing the explosion before replacing it with one of her own launching Deleon back and crashing into a wall while Dread locked himself in place to avoid the same fate. With all the vault hunters visible down for the count, Tyreen turned her attention to the Machine and made her way toward it with Dread following behind her.
"What now my love..." Dread asked looking at his lover who smiled and brought her hand to his cheek.
"Now we head back and wait for my meal," Tyreen spoke before swaying her opposite hand and teleporting both of them out of the caverns.
With the coast clear, Lilith slowly picked herself up and immediately looked at Typhon DeLeon and jogged over to him while holding her ribs groaning. Smoke also started to push himself off the ground coughing loudly while holding his gut as his eyes looked around sighing heavily.
"...man knocked the weed out of me there..god damn..." Smoke said while looking at his mask that lay two feet in front of him. "Bitch ass mutha fucka..."
"You gotta stop her..it's too late for me. Just promise me something. Don't...be...the last Vault Hunters," DeLeon spoke before he passed on.
"...we won't..." Lilith spoke as she brought her hand to DeLeon's face and swayed it over his eyes in a means to close them.
"Moze! You good in there? It's clear!" Smoke shouted as Iron Bear finally went back online ad shifted back to Mark II. "Alright...she's alive..."
"Pandora's gonna be ripped apart. And if Tyreen leeches the Destroyer, that'll be the least of our problems. We have to stop her," Lilith spoke earning a groan from Smoke.
"And we need to fight Dread...AKA...J. Dude knows how to short out Iron Bear...that's a really big problem..." Smoke notified while rolling his shoulders back and standing up straight. "I'm gonna have to fight him one on one...but something...felt...off about J..."
"What do you mean?" Lilith asked looking at Smoke.
"I don't know but he seemed...different...off even...like he wasn't all there," Smoke pointed out while looking at Lilith with hope in his eyes.
"...even so he is still with Tyreen. So let's move. DeLeon bought us our lives but we are running out of second chances. Let's move," Lilith commanded earning a nod from Smoke and Iron Bear.
"Lilith, I may have a shortcut to where Tyreen went. This machine works across interstellar distances. There must be a way...yes, I can use the connection to pandora to form a portal," Tannis suggested in which Smoke looked to Mozer and swayed his hand over his face to create a holo-screen that only the soldier and inventor can see and hear.
"Moze...I'm gonna ask you to do something that'll cost you greatly but...it might be the only way to get J back. Are you willing to risk it?" Smoke asked narrowing his eyes only for the soldier to nod her head in agreement. "It's going to be really fucking dangerous...cause if it fails...we're fucked...sideways and around the galaxy."
"I got it...for J," Moze replied earning a nod from Smoke while he smiled as he closed the holoscreen.
"Killers, we'd be dead a thousand times over if it wasn't for you. I've been telling myself I still belonged on the front lines, but...a leader needs to know when to stand aside and let a soldier do their job. This is your fight," Lilith said while looking a the ground.
"It worked! Ah! It seems I can add time and space to the long list of things I have mastery over!" Tannis shouted with excitement.
"It's time...the Destroyer is escaping. Are you ready killers?" Lilith asked walking over to the portal only to stop and turn to face Smoke and Iron Bear. "And one more thing...Smoke...if you have to...do not save one life to sacrifice the universe..."
Smoke was silent about this while eyeing Lilith but simply turned and entered through the portal along with Moze.
-Pandora-
Once Smoke and Iron Bear touched down, Moze immediately opened up her mech to allow the inventor inside to swap controls. With Smoke in command, he flipped the fusion button causing Iron Bear X to shift to its Sentinel variant once more. As soon as Iron Bear X Sentinel was in full function, they flew off toward their desired destination to kill the Destroyer. Their minds were so focused they heard little to no chatter from everyone as they raced to the Great Vaults entrance. Outside of the entrance was none other than Dread himself standing guard to prevent anyone from entering.
"Alright Smoke. What's the plan?" Moze asked getting ready.
"On my mark...grab J and fuse with him...Corah will help you," Smoke said before ejecting himself out of Iron Bear toward Dread.
Moze watched in silence as Iron Bear shifted back to Mark II but choose to not argue against it and hold her ground preparing herself. As Smoke left Iron Bear, his left arm shifted into a cannon but instead of stopping at his arm, nanobots crept along the inventor's entire body coating him in a silver armored suit. Dread's eyes grew wide at this before Smoke crashed into him grinning.
"How's it going...buddy?" Smoke asked with a chuckle.
Dread remained silent before kicking Smoke off him with his shotgun feet launching him backward but stopped in midair due to the jets in his feet and back.
"This shit here is my first time ever using it so this is gonna be...really good...or really bad...but till then...BRING IT ON!" Smoke shouted before snapping his finger with his right hand causing a sentry to appear and begin to fire at Dread.
Dread stood his ground while bringing his right hand up shifting both hands into corrosive to absorb the element he expected to use. Instead of corrosive, the round that hit him was ice which froze his hands in place. This caused Dread's eyes to widen in shock as Smoke took this chance to follow up and fire his laser cannon at his old friend. Seeing the beam close in on him, Dread dashed to the side while bringing his frozen hands to his knee breaking free from his icy cuffs. While Dread was avoiding the beam, his attention shifted back to the sentry that had followed him and continued to fire its rounds.
"This little guy is tricky now so you better be careful!" Smoke shouted while shutting his beam down and swaying his hand to create his arc star only to load it into his left arm grinning. "And even this guy!"
Dread narrowed his eyes while getting to his feet and shifted both arms into ice to absorb the rounds. Instead of ice this time, the rounds were shock which stunned Dread long enough for Smoke to fire the arc star at his old friend. The star connected to Dread's body before sending out a powerful electromagnetic pulse shutting down a good amount of his systems that controlled his weapons.
"What is this?" Dread questioned as he fell to his knees gritting his teeth as his arms twitched violently while his legs shut down.
"NOW!" Smoke shouted while grabbing Dread with both hands and chucking him to Iron Bear which opened up with Moze waiting.
As Dread entered Iron Bear, Moze instantly slammed her hand onto the fusion button to shift into Elemetal Variant. Dread screamed in pain as he thrashed against Irn Bear and its fusion. Corah popped up right in front of Dread and quickly entered his mind causing him to fall silent and hang his head down.
"J?" Moze questioned while looking at the unconscious Dread as the black armor coating slowly shifted back to normal to reveal J.
"Override code has been shut down. We got him back brother!" Corah cheered as J started to open his eyes slowly.
"...so Smoke...got the message after all...smartass," J said with a weak voice before his eyes slowly began to close again.
"Let him rest...we gotta get this done now before it's too late," Smoke spoke over the echo as he flew onto Iron Bear and fused with it as well but this time it was the inventor in control shifting Iron Bear X into its second strongest variant: Overseer. "God I hope this holds out long enough..."
"What do you mean?" Moze asked looking at Smoke whose armor began to phase in and out. "How much time?"
"...I don't know...but I need this armor to keep Overseer and if this Destroyer is as strong as they say...this is Iron Bears' second strongest form...its strongest is with J but he's passed out...if anything the best we can do is buy time for him to recover and eventually he can join us," Smoke explained as Iron Bear flew forward.
As they reached the Destroyers arena, Tyreen would be standing before them smiling widely.
"Finally," Tyreen spoke stretching her arms out as if to embrace something.
Behind Tyreen the Destroyer rose from the waters before the two beings fused into a single entity. Smoke's eyes narrowed at this as Iron Bear Overseer brought his hands together to construct a large hard lightsaber held by both hands with two large guns appearing over its shoulders. The two figures stared at each other before both charged at one another with Iron Bear's saber racing downward to Tyreen. Tyreen only growled before catching the saber with both hands while she charged a powerful beam with her human hand grinning.
"Bitch you're not the only one with guns!" Smoke shouted as his two Ion Beam Cannons slammed into her face before firing point-blank.
Tyreen screamed in pain before she retreated into the monster's body while bringing its wings up creating burning spheres that shot out balls of fire at Iron Bear. Smoke saw this and gritted his teeth before teleporting backward to avoid the splash damage while still holding the energy saber with narrowed eyes.
"Ima teleport above her okay? From there we should get a good hit on the back of the body," Smoke notified as Iron Bear brought the saber close to its body before teleporting on the Destroyer's back.
The Destroyer snarled while flailing its body about trying to shack off Iron Bear only for the mech to raise its saber and impale it through the back. At first, it seemed to have worked before the Destroyer teleported away only to appear far from them to be engulfed in burning flames before firing streams of destructive beams at Smoke them. Iron Bear quickly morphed the energy saber into a barrier to hold off the attack while sliding backward.
"She has a sphere around herself to prevent any sort of damage...but hopefully she will break from that attack soon," Moze reported as Smoke held fast with his armor already beginning to break.
"We're gonna hit her with everything we got when she breaks out of that," Smoke notified as Tyreen's sphere broke.
The moment the sphere faded away, Smoke could not help but scream at the top of his lungs and sway his hands forward. This caused the barrier and floating heavy gun to merge into a single weapon which was a Super Iron Beam Cannon. Moze glared at Tyreen before firing the Cannon directly at Tyreen the Destroyer.
The beam slammed into Tyreen earning a deafening scream of pain before the Destroyer crashed into the sea just as Iron Bear powered down into X.
"...did we get it?" Smoke asked as his nanobots slithered back into his left arm.
Moze narrowed her eyes at the waters only for it to rise to reveal the Destroyer had increased in size. Smoke and Moze's eyes grew wide at this before jumping back to avoid a slam from the large creature. As Iron Bear avoided the attack, Tyreen followed up with pillars of flames that ran through the ground toward the mech launching it back. Smoke grunted along with Moze before they slammed into the wall.
"Well...fuck us sideways," Smoke commented while looking down at the screen of the now three-story-tall creature.
"We can take her," J's voice was heard causing the two to turn around and see the fighter now conscious.
"J buddy. When did you wake up?" Smoke asked with a weak smile.
"Not important...right now we gotta take her down," J said looking at the Destroyer. "Let me take over. There we will use Iron Bear Zeroes variants..."
"Which one?" Moze asked with a raised brow.
"...all of them," J said looking at Moze.
"...your body cannot ake that kind of power buddy. One at a time sure but too much will get you killed," Smoke said glaring at his friend.
"We don't have any other options..." J said while looking around Iron Bear. "Don't you agree...Corah?"
Smoke blinked his eyes at this before Corah revealed herself in front of J.
"Completely. How else are we gonna see the universe?" Corah said with a soft giggle while Smoke sighed heavily but nodded his head
"Welp you heard 'em. Let's get this going!" Smoke said looking forward with a smirk. "Cause it really is all or nothing!"
Moze nodded her head while Smoke swayed his hand giving the controls to J who punched forward morphing X into Zero followed by activating his version of the fusion. The first variant to make itself known was Monarch with the guns placed all upon Iron Bear Zeroes limbs. Tyreen only snarled at this before she tried to grab the mech. J narrowed his eyes and fired his right grenade leg launching him over the arm before landing on the creature's limb and running up it. As Iron Bear was running along Tyreens arm, he left behind detonators before they finally reached her head where the mech cocked its right fist back and punched forward firing a concussive energy blast which was the railgun.
The blast not only staggered Tyreen back but launched Iron Bear a safe distance away and triggered all the detonators on the creature's arm causing her to shriek in pain. As Iron Bear landed on the ground, he clasped both hands together and fired a single ball of energy toward Tyreen watching as it threw her back into the waters upon contact.
Unlike before, they kept on their toes in case she rose out of the waters again. Just as expected, Tyreen came out of the waters now being half as tall as a skyscraper.
"Dude what the fuck?!" Smoke screamed while Moze narrowed her eyes.
"Switch the variant to Ronin!" J shouted as Corah swapped Moze out for Smoke causing all the weapons to merge into a single energy saber that had to be held in both hands.
The towering creature opened its mouth as Tyreen sprang out and fired a beam of pure destructive energy. Iron Bear rolled out of the way avoiding the beam by mere inches while racing toward Tyreen with increased speed. Upon reaching Tyreen, Iron Bear jumped upward and used its spiked feet to climb the Destroyer all the while piercing the creature's leg and running up its form leaving a trail of flames. As hard as Tyreen tried to get Iron Bear off, she failed as her hand would be slashed at or she would simply miss completely.
"Slap this bitch!" Smoke said as he swayed his left hand upward causing the blade to extend allowing J to grit his teeth and slice vertically.
After cutting Tyreen almost in half, Iron Bear jumped back and landed back on the ground with the metal of the mech beginning to burn out. Instead of falling into the water, Tyreen merely stood there in complete stillness.
"What's going on?" Moze asked looking around.
"...Iron bear is overheating. These fusions are eating up a lot more energy than J has," Smoke said looking at Tyreen hoping it was over.
"Now this is more like it," Tyreen said from within the Destroyer.
J narrowed his eyes as the creature's body was pulled into itself revealing Tyreen in her human form now aside from her skin being exactly like the destroyer with breasts and lower region covered by scales. Tyreen's eyes would emit purple energy while wings grew on her back as well as the claws of the Destroyer. Even though she looked different, her height was back to her human size.
"So...shall we continue?" Tyreen asked as she looked at Iron Bear with a smirk as a trail of flame pillars sprang out of the ground toward the Vault Hunters.
Iron Bear moved to the side to avoid the trail of fire pillars only to find Tyreen in front of them. She smiled at the mech before grabbing it and teleporting high into the sky simply to let go. Tyreen watched as Iron Bear began to descend toward the ground waving her hand at it. J looked at Smoke than to Moze before closing his eyes tightly.
"CORAH! DO IT!" J shouted as Iron Bear shifted into its strongest form which was the Juggernaut variant followed by the fighters body being covered by his black armor again
Iron Bear Zero Juggernaut, its form had become a replica of J himself in his berserker form. The mech's height was slightly taller than Iron Bear Zero: Overseer while being slightly on the bulky side. Tyreen looked the tall mech up and down while tilting her head followed by a light chuckle.
"A new toy? For me? You shouldn't have," Tyreen said with a chuckle while slowly floating toward the large fighter.
"Smoke. Summary of Juggernaut Varient..." J said watching as Tyreen took her time flying toward Iron Bear.
"Juggernaut is Iron Bears strongest variant. This is the only variant that has six arms. You control the two main arms or middle arms. I control the upper arms which are energy melee weapons and Moze has the lower arms which have all the weapons Mark II has but a smaller version...but they still pack the same punch as if they were normal size," Smoke answered with a chuckle. "So in this variant, we all see and feel what you feel buddy,"
As soon as Tyreen was in arms reach of Iron Bear, J quickly stretched his right hand out to grab the Calypso causing her to gasp in surprise. A chuckle soon escaped Tyreen's lips while shaking her head.
"When will you people ever learn that you..." Tyreen paused and tried to break out of Iron Bears grasp causing her to blink her eyes in confusion. "The fuck is this?"
"Power..." J answered while raising his hand and slamming her into the ground. "And absolute RAGE!"
Smoke grinned at this while he swayed his hands outward causing two arms to appear over Iron Bears' shoulder. Unlike Iron Bears' primary arms, these seemed to be able to extend their reach while the hands were replaced with energy melee weapons. Moze followed up by raising her hands as if holding guns causing two more arms to construct themselves but under the primary ones although these were smaller hands replaced with guns. Tyren watched with annoyance before she teleported out of Iron Bears grasp glaring down at the black mech in front of her.
"You think you can take on a goddess like me? A being who devours worlds? Don't make me laugh!" Tyreen spoke before extending her hands out toward Iron Bear firing a stream of destructive energy toward Iron Bear.
J watched this before he stretched his right arm out, which the mech copied, and smiled. As the energy connected with Iron Bear's palm, the beam was immediately absorbed into the mechs energy supply. Tyreen looked at this wide-eyed.
"Wait...what?" Tyreen asked before Iron Bear tucked its right fist back only to punch forward sending her attack straight back to her.
Tyreen narrowed her eyes and placed both hands forward in a means to stop it but instead was launched backward by the sheer force behind it. She was forced to teleport out of the beam's way and watched as it continue to fly out into the distance only to bring her attention forward and see both of Iron Bears' sabers closing in on her from both sides. The Calypso brought her hands outward and stopped the energy sabers with ease but was met with a railgun shot to her gut fired by Moze. This caused her to gasp for air allowing the energy sabers to cut her arms but was instantly shifted into hooks.
"GET THE FUCK OVER HERE!" Smoke shouted while pulling his hands back while Moze continued to fire railgun rounds into her gut.
With the distance between Tyreen and Iron Bear quickly disappearing, the Calypso gritted her teeth and teleported out of mechs hooks appearing overhead. J looked at this and scuffed while Moze swapped the railguns with grenade launchers.
"We need to get close so J can take her down," Moze spoke up earning and from Smoke.
"Easier said than done...that bitch knows she can't beat J...so she might try and wait us out..." Smoke said sighing heavily. "Since she knows that any Iron Bear set with J as the pilot has a time limit..."
"How does she know that?" Moze asked looking over her shoulder at J.
"I told her..." J answered causing Moze to glare at him again.
"Why?" Moze asked loudly.
"In a sense...J was hacked. Tyreen used my code against him...bitch was probably getting information from Maliwan to get to J...so...note to self...gotta change the password later," Smoke said chuckling nervously.
"How much time...do we have Corah?" J asked keeping his eyes on Tyreen who glared at the mech in thought.
"...ten minutes...tops..." Corah answered earning a nod from J.
"Then we have to hit her fast and hard," J said looking at Moze then Smoke who nodded their head in agreement.
J nodded his head while taking a deep breath and nodding his head.
"Disrupt her vision and I'll get close," J said looking at Moze who nodded her head.
Moze narrowed her eyes and began to open fire on Tyreen who simply destroyed the rounds by erecting a wall of flames in front of her. Seeing the flame wall, Iron Bear made a mad dash toward her direction before Smoke launched his energy hooks at her once more. As soon as the flame wall faded away, Tyreen was immediately pierced by the energy blades through her gut and pulled toward Iron Bear. When she tried to teleport away, it failed as she was pulled toward Iron Bears right fist which glided toward her form. By the time she realized what was happening, she found herself being slammed into the ground by the full force of a burning fist as well as the boiling hot ground melting from the impact and heat of Iron Bear's attack.
Tyreen groaned as Iron Bear lifted its fist allowing her to look up while shaking her head. As her dizziness faded away, Tyreen's eyes looked up seeing Iron Bear's fists were equipped with not only energy claws but also a flame thrower set to corrosive. Iron Bear Zero began to smash away at the pinned-down goddess before she released a powerful shout of rage pushing the mech back as she rose out o the ground.
"I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!" Tyreen shouted as she curled up into a ball and began to increase in size to match Iron Bear Zeroes' height.
As she uncurled, her height was now twice the height of Iron Bear Zero which she scuffed while glaring at the small mech in front of her.
"...let me handle the rest. I don't think she'll be teleporting anymore," J said rolling his shoulders back.
"And if you're wrong?" Moze asked looking over her shoulder at J.
"Simple...we all die," Smoke answered for J who nodded in agreement while Moze sighed and faced forward.
"What is Juggernaut's trump card?" Moze asked gripping her hands into fists.
"Black Hole...which is exactly what it means. It turns Iron Bear Juggernaut into a miniature black hole to pull in anything in a mile radius," Smoke explained. "...but it would need one pilot to use it..."
"A last-ditch effort," J said before running toward Tyreen who threw a straight punch toward the mech.
As Iron Bear ducked under her punch, Moze and Smoke were ejected out of the mech as J bowed his head in thanks to both of them.
"I must make up for my mistakes..." J said as Iron Bear brought his right fist to her gut knocking the air out of her followed by activating his thrusters and wrapping his arms around her form launching the two into space at a high speed.
Tyreen tried to break out of Iron Bears' grip but to no avail even though she was tearing the mech apart piece by piece.
"LET...ME...GO!" Tyreen screamed as she tried to teleport away but to no avail revealing the energy hooks were on her back due to iron Bear's fingers and shoulders.
"Friend of my brother...I understand that you wish to sacrifice yourself to make up for your mistakes but...he still needs you..." Corah said appearing in front of J with a smile. "I have downloaded my entire function into Iron Bear allowing me full control of the mech as well as its overdrive function. Please watch over my big brother...and tell him to remember me...and that there is a surprise I left for him in his room,"
J blinked at this in confusion before he was ejected out of Iron Bear Z with a space helmet watching as the thrusters kicked into overdrive launching the fighter toward the ground. As the fighter descended toward the ground, J straightened himself out and used his feet to slow his fall before finally crashing into the pavement while making a small crater. Smoke and Moze met up with J looking at him confused.
"Who's working Iron Bear Zero?" Smoke asked as J looked up at the flying mech which immediately turned into a black hole and sucked in Tyreen whose scream could be heard for miles.
"...your sister," J answered looking at Smoke who blinked his eyes and chuckled light while shaking his head.
"Nice one buddy...but that's not possible. I got back up files of her right here in my visor," Smoke said crossing his arms only to look at Moze then back at J who had this expression of being sorry. "That's not possible...I would have known. Ain't that right Corah?"
They waited in silence before Smoke brought his left hand up to place upon his ear activating his visor. What he saw was a chip with no data in it, not even a backup starter. Smoke's eyes grew wide before he looked up at the black hole as it slowly began to fade away. A small smile grew over the inventor's lips before he nodded his head slowly while a tear rolled down his right eye.
"...she always wanted to be a hero and go out with a bang...and black holes can make one hell of a BANG if done right..." Smoke said as his arms hung down. "Sorry about Iron Bear Moze...if you want I can build you a new one...free of charge..."
Lilith came out of her cover looking at the three before turning her attention to where the black hole was. At first, it was clear as day until a small blue ball of energy flew down and slammed into Lilith. The Crimson Raiders commander was levitated off the ground before she gained her Siren powers back. Upon gaining her Siren powers, Lilith's tattoos, as well as her flaming wings, reappeared causing the three vault Hunters to watch her slowly drift down to the ground.
"You did it you three...she's gone," Lilith spoke looking between Smoke and Moze before her eyes fell on J who faced the ground with his eyes closed.
"...I will accept my punishment..." J said with his eyes closed in which Lilith chuckled and shook his head.
"If anyone is going to give you a punishment it would be your teammates," Lilith said crossing her arms under her bust while tilting her head.
"Yeah, we got a lot to talk about buddy...and as promised...Moze got first dibs," Smoke said bringing out a single blunt and placing it between his lips before lighting it. "And I am sure...it's going to be a lot...but we can save that for later...for now we got a vault to open don't we?"
"...how are we supposed to open the vault? The black hole probably ate the key," Moze said with a sigh until a single item fell from the sky and landed in J's hand due to him stretching his arm out due to habits. "Nevermind..."
Lilith chuckled at this and nodded while looking over to see that the structures were beginning to break apart and reform themselves to the vault of the Destroyer.
"Go ahead...you three earned it," Lilith said smiling softly.
After the Vault Hunters went inside, they did not stay long before gaining a strange relic and exiting with Smoke taking the lead. Upon exiting the vault, Lilith, Ava, and Tannis would be outside waiting.
"You did it! Tyreen's dead! For real, this time. She's...not gonna come back is she?" Ava asked looking between Moze and Smoke.
"Well, she was sucked into a black hole...and I got my powers back so...I'm going to give it a hard maybe," Lilith answered.
"...well you're right about that...how does it feel to get your powers back?" Ava asked looking at Lilith with a wide smile.
"Yeah, how does it feel boss?" Smoke asked walking beside Tannis and wrapping his left arm around her waist smiling.
"I spent so long without them, I'd almost gotten used to it. Not gonna lie, it does feel good," Lilith admitted bringing her hands to view looking at her glowing tattoos once again.
"At least it's over," J said walking up along with Moze who nodded her head in agreement.
"...not entirely..." Tannis said lightly pushing Smoke away while looking up at the Great vault. "The Great Vault is still opening. Elpis is tearing Pandora apart."
"How do we stop it?" Ava asked with worry in her voice.
"...I could build some kind of machine to temporarily lock it in place but...it would take time...and...we don't got that.." Smokesuggeted while rubbing the back of his head.
"What Smoke was trying to say is...we can't. Not unless you know a way to remove the moon from the sky," Tannis said looking at Ava then Lilith.
Lilith however looked down at her hands in deep thought before nodding her head in understanding.
"Run towards the fire," Lilith said walking forward and gripping her hands into fists. "Sanctuary's yours, Ava. Be ready,"
With that said, Lilith went into a full-on sprint forward before launching herself up[ward toward the moon.
"What does Lilith think she's doing?" Tannis asked watching as her friend flew toward the great vault.
"...closing the Great Vault..." Smoke answered with wide eyes.
"She's saving Pandora," Ava finished watching Lilith fly.
"...that could kill her..." Tannis said.
"...she knows," Ava said while J watched with his hands gripping into fists. "She's the Firehawk,"
The five crimson raiders watched as Lilith engulfed herself in her siren power and slammed into the Great Vault forcing it shut. A large phoenix displaying itself upon the on of Pandora for all to see. Smoke and J bring their right hands over their chest and bowed their heads in great respect and thanks before the light slowly began to die down.
"She's...gone..." Tannis said as Smoke turned to the historian and shake his head.
"No...she lives on...in our memories," Smoke said gaining everyone's attention before they nod in agreement.
"We should head back to Sanctuary...maybe she left us something," Ava said with a shrug.
"Speaking of Sanctuary...Smoke...your sister said she left something for you in your living quarters," J notified earning a confused head tilt from the inventor.
"Noted...I'll be sure to check it out later," Smoke said while the five of them made their way back to Sanctuary.
-Sanctuary-
As everyone returned to Sanctuary, Smoke followed after Tannis while Moze lagged behind only to grab J and pull him into her quarters. J merely went with it before being thrown to the wall and pinned there by the soldier who glared into his eyes. The fighter remained unfazed before Moze brought her right fist to his cheek forcing J to turn to the right only for him to slowly look back at her.
"Do you understand how much of an ass you were when you went to talk with Tyreen alone without telling us?!" Moze screamed.
"Yes," J answered bluntly before being punched in the gut by Moze causing the fighter to lean forward slightly only to straighten his posture again.
"And yet you still did it! What the fuck kind of thinking is that?!" Moze shouted before bringing her knee to his groin causing him to flinch forward again but showing no real sign of pain.
"I wished to experience what true love was..." J said tilting his head.
"And did you get to experience it with Tyreen? After all, she went into full detail on what you two did while you were with here!" Moze questioned.
"...no..." J answered looking at the ground now. "What I was experiencing with her was being used like a toy...just like how I was when I was being torn apart back in Maliwan Corporation."
"I thought only your limbs were taken off?" Moze said blinking her eyes and taking a step back.
"...no...my lower half of my body was completely removed...but not after someone else used me as an expendable pleasure toy...a female inventor...before Smoke found me of course..." J said looking back up at Moze. "I do not know what love feels like...because I have lost all feelings between my legs..."
"...this is how it feels..." Moze said pinning J against the wall again before pressing her lips upon the fighters.
J was confused at this action but felt a touch of affection in it. It was completely different from what was happening when Tyreen did the same. The two were left to do their sharing of knowledge while Smoke was in Lilith's quarters to find if any clues were left behind. Ava was the first to realize that Moze and j were missing.
"...where's Moze and J?" Ava asked looking behind Smoke who only chuckled and looked over his shoulder.
"You'll know when your older kid," Smoke answered before looking forward at the young Siren who's face immediately was filled with disgust.
"Ewww that's gross," Ava whispered while shaking her head.
"Ahh, you're too young to know why it's happening," Smoke said with a chuckle while looking around the room. "Oh before I forget...here ya go, babe. The relic we found at the vault...I gotta go check something in my quarters now..."
Smoke turned and left the room to make his way into his own which was on the other side of the hallway thankfully. Upon entering his room, he sighed and looked around until the lights flickered. In the middle of the room revealed a new AI that formed. It was a younger version of Corah but with a different color. The inventor's eyes blinked at this as he walked toward the child in thought.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Smoke asked blinking his eyes causing the child to turn and face the inventor before the kid smiled.
"UNCLE!" The child cheered while getting to her feet and wrapping her hardlight arms around Smoke's buddy surprising even him.
"Uncle?" Smoke said blinking his eyes in confusion.
"I'll handle it from here baby girl," Balex said causing the child to look up and nod before vanishing from sight only to appear a few feet away from Smoke.
"BALEX? The fuck is going on?" Smoke asked looking around with a weak smile.
"Yeah. That's my kid...as well as ya sista's," Balex admitted. "We named her...Barah...a combination of Corah and yours truly, Balex."
"...how in the fuck is that even possible? When did this even happen?" Smoke said rubbing the back of his head looking at his niece in deep thought.
"Yeah remember when you inserted your sister into Sanctuary to trap GenIVIV into a chip...yeah we got to know each other and well...one thing lead to another and...here's our kid," Balex answered with a soft chuckle.
"YOU BITCH! I KNEW I DIDN'T LIKE YOU!" Smoke shouted while pointing at the ceiling.
"Uncle...doesn't like me?" Barah asked with a sad expression gaining Smoke's attention who sighed while rubbing the back of his head again.
"Ths is all...just so sudden is all...but no...I don't hate you. I'm glad I have a niece," Smoke admitted while walking up to Barah and placing his hand on her shoulder. "I am just not used to being able to touch an AI..."
"Hard-light technology. Although she can't feel a thing...you can be able to interact with her AND for an added bonus she can help with more than just hacking but also...navigating and fighting," Balex explained causing Barah to stand proud and raise her head back slightly.
"I am...still unsure how this was possible but ya know what...I'll roll with it..." Smoke said with a smile before it slowly began to fade away as he looked at the ground. "...I just wish I could've hung out with my lil sister longer before she blew up Tyreen..."
"The unexpected...at times it can be a real bitch man...but don't let it get you down brotha..." Balex said earning a soft nod from Smoke.
"Mama will be remembered by us!" Barah said hugging her uncle with a cheerful chuckle.
"Yeah...you're right...we will always remember her," Smoke said closing his eyes and nodding in agreement.
"Speaking of which...what about you brotha? Did you get yo girl?" Balex asked causing Smoke to chuckle.
"So far nah...but in time I will. I ain't the type to force others to do what they do not want to do. Plus, I feel a connection with her. She likes me...she just has a funny way of showing it," Smoke admitted while rubbing the back of his head just as his room door opened revealing Tannis.
"Smoke. Do you have a moment?" Tannis asked with her hands behind her back.
Balex immediately took Barah with him out of the room to give the two time to talk to one another in private, even though they both were listening in through the Echo-3. Smoke turned to Tannis and nodded his head while swaying his left hand to the side cutting off all communications in the room to avoid anyone from listening in.
"Aww come on man," Balex complained on the speakers before eventually going silent.
"Well...we won...but would like to clear one thing up..." Tannis said looking at Smoke before taking a deep breath. "I would want us to...stay as friends...it would be more...beneficial that way,"
"Beneficial how?" Smoke asked with a raised brow and tilted head.
"I understand that you hold feelings for me and I greatly appreciated it but...I cannot feel the same way for you," Tannis said gripping her opposite hand tightly.
"Pffft is that all? Hell Tannis I thought it was going to be worse," Smoke admitted while chuckling.
"What could possibly more worst than getting friend-zoned?" Tannis asked narrowing her eyes.
"But that's the thing. Friend-zoned. That spot is temporary. It's better than you saying, I make you feel uncomfortable. Now that's a big red flag for me," Smoke said with a soft sigh.
"Oh, believe me, Smoke. If you were making me feel any bit uncomfortable I would have killed you ages ago," Tannis said with a soft chuckle while bringing her left hand up and swaying it forward slightly.
"Yeah, I know...plus... as I said...I am in your friend zone...for now...because as you said I would be dead," Smoke said with a smile.
"Well...if you say it that way I guess you're right...but it might take years," Tannis said blinking her eyes.
"For you baby...I'd wait for all eternity," Smoke said walking forward while taking her left hand into his own before bowing her head and kissing her hand.
Tannis stood there frozen while being completely flustered while watching Smoke slowly stand up straight with his left hand.
"I...appreciate it...Smoke..." Tannis said closing her eyes and turning around before leaving the room.
"In time," Smoke said with a soft smile.
"Wow man...cringe much?" Balex said earning a soft groan from Smoke who rolled his eyes.
"Barah...try not to help your dad do...rude things. Your ma would not be happy about that," Smoke called out earning a soft gasp before silence followed causing the inventor to snicker lightly. "Kids..."
As time passed, Ava became the new head of the Crimson Raiders while Moze and J stayed by one another side fighting any remnants of the CoV. Smoke on the other hand continued to pursue the historian and scientist Tannis before eventually, they started to date. All went well with nothing difficult for the three to deal with especially with the Juggernaut Mech Smoke created as a wedding present for the two Vault Hunters. Juggernaut was a two-seater with back mortars, shoulder laser cannons, and palm flamethrowers. Even a large Saurian was a match for the Juggernaut due to its overwhelming firepower and heavy armor.
Smoke kept his eyes on Balex as well as his niece Barah while also keeping up with Tannis in becoming a power couple in terms of inventing not only weapons but equipment to assist the Crimson Raiders in dealing with future threats.
