This is my restarted story as I believed I could improve it and I thought it didn't work out the way I wanted it to in the old story. I hope I can make this enjoyable and if something doesn't make sense tell me where it went off the rails.
With that let us get into the story, I hope you enjoy and have a goodnight or good morning.
Chapter One: The Jungle
I began to wake up from my rest. I woke up hanging from a part of our colony's cave. It was night because as far as I could see there weren't very many bats in the cave. I unfurled my wings as I began to detach from the rock I was holding onto.
I was alone, my family sadly did not exist. My father had died before I was born, he was one of the assistants to Chief Priest, Geoffroy Valkenstein. I heard he was a good man and with his position I knew he was a very religious man.
My mother died when I turned a year old. She had caught a horrible illness that spread to a few other bats. They were all dead within some time and luckily it hasn't happened again to anyone else in the colony.
The only family I had were two of my best friends, Hudson and Aidan. I was currently going to exit the cave and try to find the two. I started to navigate the cave, flying upwards to get to the exit of the cave.
After I reached the exit of the cave I saw the large trees and the cool colors in the night land. I began to fly in the cool jungle air as I looked for my two friends.
"Hudson!" I shouted, "Aidan!" I saw a bat look up at me and I recognized them. His fur was the brightest in our colony, his ears were slightly larger than everyone else's. I then flew over towards the bat.
"Yuriel!" The bat looked at me, "How are you?" I roosted next to the bat as I looked at him, "I'm alright Hudson."
Hudson smiled at me. Hudson was a very generous bat, he was slow but he'd always help out whoever needed it. "Yuriel! There you are, we were waiting." It was Aidan, one of the larger bats in our colony and an excellent hunter at best.
"I'm good Hudson, What about you both?" I said with a smile as I nodded towards them. "I'm good." Aidan said as he looked around the jungle canopy looking for any animals.
"I'm fine." Hudson said softly.
"See something?" I asked Aidan, he was basically in charge of finding animals for our friend group to go use as a snack.
"Yep, follow me you two!" He shouted as he stretched out his wings and began to descend near an animal. I quickly followed Aidan and flew down into the canopy and began to slow down and land near the animal on the jungle floor.
The moon glowed as I slowly began to crawl towards the animal, it was asleep and that made it all the more easier to get it. I made it up towards the animal's body and began to look for the area that I heard had the most blood flow.
After finding that area I bit part of the skin and started to drink the blood that was flowing from it. Sometime later I saw Aidan dismount and begin to hop off from the animal.
Soon I joined him, crawling towards the edge of the animal and hopping up and flying up towards Aidan waiting for Hudson to join us.
"So, good meal?" I asked Aidan who was perched up next to me.
"Yep. Because I found it!" He shouted gloriously looking at me and then down towards Hudson.
Hudson then after a bit more time began to fly right back up towards us two. "You think we should start heading back towards the cave?" I asked the two.
"Sure," Hudson said, glancing at Aidan who shot a smirk, "Want to make it a race you too?" I was up for a challenge, we'd see who was the best out of us for today.
"Of course!" I shouted with Hudson also yelling, "Let's go!"
"Maybe you'll be the fastest today," I said to Hudson with a smile. With that, I unfurled my wings along with my two friends, "Ready?" Aidan said getting ready to bolt, "Go!"
With that we were all off, I was currently in front of the group. I was one of the faster ones but Aidan was slightly faster. Hudson was not far behind, he must've been trying his all as well.
I was slowing down slightly, I mean I had to because there were some knocked over trees on the way to our cave. However Aidan only started to get faster, he was a good maneuverer and practiced with these trees most of the time.
And of course, he made it past them without a problem with me and Hudson close behind him. The canopy was easy to get past and the cool air was amazing on my wings.
After a while of flying we had almost made it towards the cave. Aidan shot a smirk towards me, he thought he was going to win and I wasn't going to let him.
I tried to get my wings to go faster pushing my limit, but I wasn't fast enough. Aidan had made it to the entrance of the cave where there were many bats relaxing and talking to each other.
I began to slow down and land next to Aidan waiting for Hudson to land. I coughed as I began to speak, "Good race."
Hudson popped with a smile besides Aidan and I. "Yep, good race!" Hudson sounded exhausted as it was a very long race. "So, do you have anything to do tomorrow night?" I asked them both.
I knew Hudson sometimes had Religious duties as he was an assistant to the Chief Priest, like my dad was. I didn't know about Aidan, he didn't have anything to do most of the time. Hudson looked at me, "Sadly, yes."
"What are you doing now?" Aidan asked Hudson. Hudson gave a yawn before he started to talk, "Oh I have to help the Chief Priest with something, don't know what though."
I looked up into the night sky which was slowly becoming day and then back at Hudson and Aidan, "That's too bad." I said with a small laugh, "Well I'll see you two sometime tomorrow. The sun's coming up, so have a good rest."
I looked at the two and began to unfurl my wings to go into the dark and homely cave. "Let's go!" I shouted as I flew inside of the cave and found my roost. I dug my claws into the rock and began to close my wings around my body, closing my eyes.
"Goodnight…" I whispered to myself as sleep consumed me.
