The events of this chapter take place between chapter 30 of Cyber Ranger Guardian Story: Battle for Oblivia and chapter 1 of Cyber Ranger Guardian Story: Cases and Quests.
Nema was at her computer. She hummed to herself as she was observing some data.
"Hey, Nema." Her father approached. "What're you looking at so intensely?"
"Berkhart was just giving me a monthly update on the condition of the new antenna for the wireless tower."
"Monthly updates? Is it really necessary?" Rand asked.
Tokomon appeared on the screen. "We don't want anything bad to happen! That antenna is super important!"
"That is true. It sure was hard not being able to report to the Ranger Union."
"It's more then just that." Nema said. "Takumi and Ami told me that antenna is a symbol of friendship and cooperation between humans and Digimon."
"That's true. It wouldn't have been done without those two."
Nema smiled as she thought back to that day. It was a week after the Societea was defeated and Ben and Summer left Oblivia…
Takumi and Yuugo walked up to the Wireless Tower. Arata, Berkhart, Rand and Nema were waiting for them along with Kenkimon.
"Hey, Takumi! Yuugo! Over here!" Nema waved.
"Just the two of you, huh?" Rand asked.
"All the others are busy right now." Takumi replied.
"I see. Well, that's fine, I'm sure you two can figure this out on your own."
"Did something happen?" Yuugo asked.
"Well, you know how the Wireless Tower's been out of commission since the Pinchers stormed it?" Berkhart asked. "As you know, we've all been working hard on repairs. Kenkimon here was a huge help! He could get even the heaviest materials up there in record time!"
"Glad to be of service." The Digimon replied.
"How much longer do you think it'll take?" Terriermon asked.
"Well, Nema here came up with an idea." Rand replied. "She gathered abandoned Z.Z. Flyers the Pinchers ditched and thought of using them for the parts the antenna needs."
"That's actually possible?"
"Believe it or not, it is." Arata replied. "The battery function on the Z.Z. Flyers is similar to what we need for the tower."
"Heh. That's Nema and Arata for you." Takumi smirked. "So, what do you need us for?"
"Well, you see, to get them in place on the antenna, we need to screw them in." Berkhart replied. "Unfortunately, the drills we have aren't strong enough to do the job. But then, Kenkimon here got an idea."
"I have a good friend named Digmon, you see." The Digimon explained. "He and I do all kinds of construction together back in the Digital World. His drills can handle any job, from screwing to digging. If we can get his help, he can get the Z.Z. Flyer parts installed in no time."
"I see…" Yuugo replied. "But that's a huge maybe, isn't it? I mean we don't even know if he's one of the Digimon that landed in this world."
"Actually, we do. He and I were practicing when we wound up in Oblivia. But remember when I mentioned that I was attacked by those guys an the Z.Z. Flyers? When they showed up and chassed us, we got separated on the run."
"I…don't know whether to take this as good news or bad news." Takumi said. "You don't think he got caught, do you?"
"No way. If I could get away, he can. He's not only faster than me but he's way smarter! He's powered by the Digi-Egg of Knowledge after all! Though, I have been asking around during my free time, it looks like nobody has seen him."
"It's been a while since you two arrived in this world, hasn't it?" Yuugo asked. "That's worrisome."
"Analyzing possibilities." Hagurumon said. "I: Digmon used his ability to fly, to go to another island. 2: Digmon was captured or destroyed by Pokemon Pinchers or wild Pokemon. 3: Digmon hid itself underground to avoid danger."
Kenkimon nodded. "Yeah, that third idea makes sense. One thing Digmon excels in is…er…digging."
"This is why we called you." Arata said to Takumi. "I imagine finding lost Digimon is nothing new to you?"
"Leave it to me." Takumi said. "I'll start looking around for it."
"I'll help you." Yuugo replied. "It'll be easier if we split up and cover more ground."
"Digmon prefers rocky places." Kenkimon said. "I'd recommend searching around areas like that."
Takumi thought for a moment before his eyes lite up. "Mitonga Island. That cliffside we saw when we were chasing after the Pincher's submarine."
"Yeah!" Terriemron nodded. "That place was nothing but rock!"
"Good idea." Yuugo nodded. "Hagurumon and I will search the area near Daybreak Ruins. If we see anything we'll call."
Takumi nodded. "Likewise."
"I'll message the others and have them keep an eye out." Arata replied. "Good luck."
"Thanks. Come on Terriermon, we're on the case."
As MachGaogomon, Takumi's Digimon was easily able to carry him and fly straight to the cliffside. "Here we are." Takumi said as he landed. "Hmm…thinking about it, this isn't a very safe place to be digging. It's close to the bottom of the island."
"Yeah. Didn't Rand say something about rockslides occurring here?" MachGaogomon asked. "Oh well. We're here anyway. Let's look around." They proceeded around the path. Before they reached a dead end at the cliff, they saw a hole in the wall. "Hey, that wasn't here before." MachGaogamon said.
Takumi put on his Digivice and called Yuugo. "Yuugo, I found some kind of cave near the edge of the cliff. I'm going to take a look."
"Okay. I'll be right over. Be carful in there. It could be Digmon, or something else entirely."
Takumi nodded and ended the call before he stepped inside with his Digimon. They walked through the deep tunnel. "Hard to believe one Digimon could do all this." MachGaogamon said. "Digmon must be really strong."
"Well, you heard what Kenkimon said." Takumi replied. They stayed quiet for the next couple of minutes as they continued. It was only when they heard a strange noise and they stopped. "Hey, did you hear that?"
"It came from up ahead." As they hurried onward, they heard the sound again. It was like a groaning noise. And then they spotted a yellow Digimon with drill bits for fingers and a noise. It looked like some kind of betel. It was slumped against the tunnel wall, and it appeared to be hurt pretty badly.
Takumi hurried to him. "Hey, are you alright?!"
The Digimon weakly looked up. "Huh? Who are you?"
"I'm Takumi Aiba. A Cyber Sleuth."
"Cyber…Sleuth? You're human, but…is that a Digimon behind you?"
"I'm his partner." MachGaogamon replied.
"I don't get it but…you two should get out of here. It could come back any moment."
"It?" Takumi asked. "Who did this to you?"
"Some wild creature. I think the inhabitants here call it a Pokemon."
"Takumi!" Yuugo ran over with Andromon close behind. "Is that Digmon?"
Takumi looked at the Digimon through his goggles. "Yup. Digmon. A Vaccine, Armor-Level Digimon harnessing the Digi-Egg of Knowledge. It never losses to any Digimon underground." Takumi lifted his goggles back up. "Kenkimon sent us to look for you."
The Digimon gasped. "Kenkimon? Is he alright?! Did he get away from those guys on the flying machines?!"
"He's fine." Takumi said. "Actually, he wanted us to look for you because he needs your help with something he's working on."
"Well…As much as I want to help my pal out, I can't leave here. Not while it's still running about."
"What do you mean?" Yuugo asked.
"I burrowed my way underground to hide from any more nasty humans. But I was in a panic and didn't look where I was going and crashed into this creature. It got really angry and went on a rampage."
"He thinks it was a Pokemon." Takumi replied.
"I tried to stop it, but it was too powerful. I never thought I'd lose in an underground fight, but that thing is tough and hits hard…"
"I see. So that's what happened to you. Andromon."
"Affirmative." Yuugo's Digimon crouched in front of Digmon and held his hands in front of him. "Aura." He started healing the Digimon.
"We'll stay here and help Digmon." Yuugo said. "You should go after this Pokemon. If it does too much damage down here, it could cause parts of the island to cave in, or dangerous rockslides."
"I'm on it." Takumi nodded.
"Wait!" Digmon grunted as he tried to get up. "This is my fault! I have to be the one to stop it!"
"You feel responsible for something awful. I know the feeling, believe me. But that doesn't mean you have to shoulder a massive burden on your own."
"You…"
Yuugo smiled warmly. "It'll be alright. Trust Takumi. He's never failed when the welfare of innocents are involved."
"Don't worry, it'll work out." Takumi smiled. "Let's go, MachGaogamon!"
"Right!"
"Be careful!" Digmon warned as he watched them leave. "That thing is insanely strong!"
"So are they." Yuugo smiled.
MachGaogamon and Takumi have continued deeper into the tunnel for the next few minutes. "I don't see anything." MachGaogamon said.
"Keep your guard up." Takumi replied. "Who knows where it could attack from." He heard a rumble and stopped. "Huh?" He looked up and small pieces of the ceiling came down as the rumbling got stronger.
"Look out!" MachGaogamon flew into him and carried him away safely just as something burst out from above and landed where Takumi previously stood. It was a blocky, brown and orange Pokemon with a drill on its nose.
As his Digimon put him down, Takumi got a look at the Pokemon. "That must be what Digmon was fighting!" He scanned it with his Digivice. "Ryperior! Ground/Rock Type. It can launch a rock in its hands like a missile, and relies on its carapace to deflect attacks and throw the enemy off balance before taking the offensive with it's drill."
The Pokemon turned around to face them and roared. "Okay, yeah, that thing is super ticked off." MachGaogamon muttered. "It looks like we'll have to beat it into submission!"
"I'd rather not get violent, but without a Capture Styler, I guess it's all we can do. Alright! Let's go!"
MachGaogamon's jets whirled before he charged at the Ryperior. "Wind Claw!"
He rammed a hand towards the Pokemon, but it caught it in one of its own. Then it pulled him forward and punched him in the gut making him hunch forward. Then Ryperior slammed its head into him, knocking him back.
MachGaogamon rolled back and looked up as the Pokemon charged towards him. He leapt up over it, landed behind it and grabbed it by the tail and threw it back. "Gale Storm!" A cyclone engulfed the Pokemon, but with a roar, it dispelled it. It picked up a rock and using Rock Blast threw it at incredible force, knocking MachGaogamon down.
Takumi watched Ryperior take a leap. "Look out!"
MachGaogamon rolled out of the way just before he could get stomped. He got back on his feet and charged. "Winning Knuckle!" He rammed his fist right into Ryperior's face and slid it back on it's feet. But when it came to a screeching halt it lifted up it's arms and slammed into MachGaogamon's back with Hammer Arm. Then kicked it a distance while it was on the ground and finally it summoned a huge bolder into it's hands and threw a Rock Wrecker, slamming it into MachGaogamon who was smashed between it and a wall.
"MachGaogamon!" Takumi looked over at the bolder his Digimon was trapped under. But storming footsteps brought his attention back to Ryperior as it stormed towards him. He was too shocked to react in time and the Pokemon grabbed him in his massive hands. "Aaah!" He struggled to get out, but the grip around him was solid. It slowly started to squeeze Takumi tighter, crushing the air out of him. "Rgh…GAAAAAAAAH!"
When MachGaogamon heard his scream, something snapped. "Takumi!" With a roar he blasted through the rock and rammed into Ryperior with full force. As it dropped Takumi and fell over, MachGaogamon caught his partner. "Are you alright?!"
"Yeah, thanks partner." Takumi grunted as he was gently put down. A golden aura burst around him. "Huh?"
Ryperior roared as it got up. MachGaogamon pounded his fists together, "Alright, no more games. It's time to stop this rampaging brute!"
DIGIVOLUTION
"MachGaogamon Digivolve to…" A yellow shell formed around MachGaogamon and transformed him into a lion with a sword and a black and red cloak. "BanchoLeomon!"
"That's new." Takumi did a scan. "BanchoLeomon. Vaccine Type Mega Level. Wielding the "Otokodama" it lives faithfully only to the "justice" that it trusts even if it means fighting the likes of the Royal Knights or Celestial Digimon."
BanchoLeamon stepped forward towards the Ryperior. "No holding back. I'm coming at you with all I got!" Ryperior charged angerly at BanchoLeomon. "Awesome Quake!" BanchoLeomon punched the ground so hard it shook. Ryperior lost its balance and stumbled. "Comet Hammer!" He then punched it so hard it flew back.
When Ryperior got up it prepared another Rock Wrecker. BanchoLeomon just stood there as the bolder grew and was thrown at him. As it got close, he roared and swung his blade at the rock, perfectly cleaving it in half. The two pieces flew past him and slammed into the wall.
The Ryperior's eyes widened at the strength of it's new foe. But it's drill spun rapidly as it glared and charged with the Drill Run move. "It's left itself open!" Takumi said. "Finish it!"
BanchoLeomon charged towards it with his fist glowing gold. "Flashy Boss Punch!" The attacks clashed as the fighters slid past each other before coming to a halt. All was still for an uneasy moment. Until Ryperior collapsed. BancoLeomon straightened up and put his sword over his shoulder. "It's done."
"Good job." Takumi said. "Id hate to leave this guy like this…I'll call Rand over and see if he can do anything about it. It won't be up for a while. Maybe he can capture it with his Styler and relocate it somewhere where it can't hurt anybody."
"Give him a call and let's head back to Yuugo and Digmon."
Takumi nodded before putting on his Digivice.
Just as Takumi and Terriermon were returning, Andromon finished healing Digmon. "Takumi!" Yuugo stood up as he saw them approached. "You alright? We could hear a lot of ruckus from here."
"We're fine." Takumi smiled. "The Pokemon is unconscious. Rand should be here soon to deal with it."
"What?! You…you actually beat that thing?!" Digmon asked. "What…what are you?!"
"I told you. I'm a Cyber Sleuth."
"A-amazing…"
"Once Rand gets here, we should go." Yuugo said. "Can you walk?"
"Yeah, I'll all healed thanks to you. Wow. I never thought humans would be the ones to come help me. I guess your kind isn't all bad after all."
"Heh. We like to think so." Takumi replied. "Kenkimon is getting along with our friends here after all."
"So…what was this about needing my help?"
"Well you see…"
When they returned to the Wireless Tower Kenkimon hurried over. "Digmon! Man am I glad to see you!"
"Right back at you." Digmon nodded. "I'm glad you were able to get away."
"Good work you two." Berkhart smiled. "I knew it was the right thing to ask the Cyber Sleuths for help."
"Takumi told me everything." Digmon said. "If Kenkimon is helping these people, then so will I! Where are the parts?"
"I already carried them to the top of the tower." Kenkimon replied. "All we need to do is screw them in place."
"Alright! I'll head up there!" Digmon took flight and started making his way to the top of the tower.
"Heh, heh! That guy hasn't changed. Thanks for finding him guys, I really appreciate it!"
"Glad to be of service." Takumi smiled.
"We should head up ourselves." Arata said.
"You heard the kid, let's move boys!" Berkhart said.
"Yes sir!"
Digmon and Kenkimon backed up as they put the last part in place. Z.Z. Flyers were attached to the antenna. "Alright, it's done!" Digmon said.
Arata took out his Digivice. "Yup! Signal's on, and better then ever!"
"Will it be enough for long distance communication?" Yuugo asked.
"Let's find out!" Nema chirped. "Papa, try giving the Ranger Union a call!"
Rand pressed a bottom on his Styler. Some ringing was heard and everyone quietly watched. "This is Linda, Operator of Ranger Union speaking, how can I help you?"
Takumi and the others smiled. Digmon and Kenkimon high fived. "This is Rand, Area Ranger of Oblivia." Rand replied. "Reporting the completion of Wireless Tower repairs."
"Oh, Rand! That's good news. The Professor will be happy to hear!"
"Yeah, this makes things easier for me too. No more written reports. Give the Professor my regards…also tell Ben and Summer I said hi."
"Can do. Linda, out."
Rand smiled as he hung up. "It took time and effort, but the Wireless Tower is finally operational."
"Man, when it first got wrecked, I was prepared to spend a year on it." Berkhart replied. "Well done, everyone."
"Digmon and Kenkimon did a lot of hard work." Takumi said. "I guess that's what I should expect from the Digital World's best construction workers."
"The human construction workers put a lot of effort in as well." Kenkimon replied.
"Well, let's not forget, Nema, was the one who figured out how to fix it." Berkhart added.
"Heh, heh." The girl giggled.
"This is what happens when humans and Digimon come to work together I guess." Rand smiled. "And nobody is better at bringing them together then Takumi and his friends."
"Well…" Takumi chuckled. "We try."
"Now we can communicate with Ranger HQ if something comes up." Arata said. "Hopefully we won't need to."
"Yeah…hopefully." Takumi said. "But I can't shake the feeling something will happen soon…"
Nema smiled as she finished reflecting on the event. "It's a good thing we got it fixed when we did so Matayoshi could call Ranger Union when Team One World appeared."
"True." Rand nodded. "We wouldn't have been able to handle all that without our backup."
"And we even managed to use it to send messages to Yuuko and Yuugo back in their world!" Tokomon added. "We even got photos from them!"
"Maybe that tower can be more then a mere symbol of friendship and cooperation with humans and Digimon." Rand smiled. "Maybe someday…it can connect all of us."
"That would be great." Nema nodded. "Until then…let's continue to do our best! Just like Ben, Summer, Takumi, Ami and all those guys!"
