This chapter takes place during chapter 24 of Cyber Ranger Guardian Story
While Takumi and Ami were resting prior to the events on Sophian Island, Ben, Summer, Yuuko and Fei went on a patrol. They were walking down Curl Bay on Renbow Island when they spotted a girl sighing. "Oh no. What should I do?"
"Is something wrong?" Ben asked.
"I came here for a picnic. The weather is great, so I dozed off. When I woke up, the four loaves of bread I had were gone."
Yuuko frowned. "That's terrible."
The girl looked away. "It seems the Pokemon around here may have eaten them. If it were regular bread, I wouldn't worry about it. But I happen to like spicy food…And I happen to have brought superspicey bread today!"
"Uh, oh." Summer shuddered. "That can't be good for the Pokemon."
The girl turned back to them. "Rangers! I'm worried about the Pokemon that ate my bread. They may be panting! Can you help them if you see them suffering?"
"Of course!" Ben replied. "Though…how do we go about finding them?"
"I'll take you to where those Pokemon may be."
"Okay." Summer replied as she and Ben posed. "Quest on!"
"Please help them."
"We'll do what we can." Fei said. "Lead the way."
The client brought the group to Latolato Trail. "The Pokemon that need help should be around here. There were four loaves. So, there should be four Pokemon suffering, I think. I don't think a Pokemon could eat all four loaves by itself."
"Makes sense." Summer replied. "Bread is pretty filling. Anyway, you can go back and wait for us. We can handle this."
The girl shook her head. "It's my fault. I'll stay here until you're done."
"Alright. Let's split into groups of two." Ben said. "Fei and I will go one way, Summer and Yuuko will look in a different direction. Look for Pokemon that are angry or showing signs of suffering."
"Got it." Summer replied as they left.
As Fei and Ben walked down the path, they kept their wits about them. Until they got board and decided to start a conversation. "So, your world's pretty high tech, huh Fei?"
"I'd say so. At least compared to this place."
"Must be hard to adjust here."
"Eh. It's not all that bad really. The sky is bright, the air feels cleaner, and the wildlife keeps things interesting. The city can be so dull sometimes."
Suddenly a buzzing sound caught their attention. "What was that?" Ben asked.
"Sorry. Happens when I get board." FanBeemon replied.
"No, it's something else…"
An angry Mothim charged at them. "Oh boy! Fei!"
"Yeah, I'm on it."
DIGIVOLUTION
"FanBeemon Digivolve to…Waspmon!"
The Mothim used Bug Buzz making the Digimon back up a bit. But long-distance combat was just what she wanted. "Turbo Stinger!" She aimed for the wings and grazed them with the attack, making it drop to the ground. Ben was able to capture it easily from there.
"That came out of nowhere." Fei said. "Think it's one of our unfortunate Pokemon?"
Ben examined it. Sweat was running down it's head and it was panting. "Looks like it. Poor thing. Let's take it with us for now and look for the others."
Summer and Yuuko were strolling through the area. "This area does look like it would be nice for a picnic." Yuuko said.
"Have you ever been on one?"
"Not for a long time. Not since I had my father, mother and brother."
A Stunky and a Bibarel ran past them with faces twisted in pain. "Did you see those two?" Summer asked.
"They looked like they were in pain." Yuuko replied. "Could they be the ones to have eaten that bread? Just how much spice was in there? It gives food more flavor, sure, but if it's too much it'll overpower the original flavors."
"I think we should be more concerned about their wellbeing then that girl's culinary preferences right now, Yuuko."
"I'll chase them to you." Guilmon said. "Get your Styler ready."
"Okay!"
Guilmon hurried on ahead. After a few seconds they saw the Stunky and Bibarel running towards them with Guilmon chasing them. Once they were close, Summer claimed them with her Styler.
"That's two right off the bat." Summer said. "Maybe we should see how Ben is doing."
Ben and Fei backed up as a Gible roared as it charged at them bearing its fangs. "Somebody's in a bad mood." Fei said.
"It must be one of the Pokemon that ate that bread." Ben replied. "Man, how much spice was in there?!"
"I got him!" Waspmon flew in front of the angry Pokemon. "Ripping Net!" She threw a blast of electricity at Gible, but the Pokemon brushed it off. "What?!"
"Gible's a Ground Type. Electric attacks won't work. Fortunately, I got a Friend Pokemon that can help. "Ralts! Confusion!"
The small Psychic Pokemon stepped out from behind Ben and its head glowed. A pink flash hit Gible, stopping it in its tracks. Ben easily captured it after that. "Alright, that's half. Let's see if Summer and Yuuko found any."
The team regrouped where the girl was waiting, bringing the four Pokemon with them. "Thank you so much! If it weren't for you…I'd feel a pang at this every time I ate something spicey. Thank you Rangers. Now I can continue to eat spicy food without feeling guilt."
"Quest Clear!" Ben and Summer posed.
"Say, I'd like to invite you to a dinner sometime."
"Thank you! That sounds nice!" Yuuko smiled.
"Would you like superspicy bread on the side?"
All of them fell silent.
Next the team decided to hit Lapras Beach. It was there they spotted a little girl sighing to herself as she looked at the vast ocean in front of her. "What's up with her?" Fei asked.
Summer walked over and crouched down to her level. "Hello. Is something wrong?"
"My brother's feeling down…"
"What happened?"
"He lost his precious Shining Coral Charm he got from his girlfriend. He dropped it in the ocean."
"Oh no…"
"Nixie was saying that it may have gotten washed away to the Coral Sea by now. I want to make my brother happy again."
"I can relate to that." Yuuko faintly whispered.
Summer stood up. "Well then, how about my partner and I go get it for you?"
"Really?!"
Ben smiled. "Of course."
"Excuse me!" A man ran over to them. "You're going to Coral Sea, right?"
"Yup."
"Good timing! You know what? I was on a boat in the Coral Sea fishing when the line got cut with an incredible force! It must have been some kind of a huge thing! It must be the protector of Oblivia sea or…Anyway, I'd like you to find out what it was that was so huge."
"But how?" Yuuko asked.
"It should still have my lure. My lure's so shiny that you be able to find it."
"Well, we're going there anyway." Summer said. "We might as well keep an eye out."
Ben nodded. "Quests on!"
"Thank you so much!" The girl smiled. "The current at the Coral Sea is strong. Please be careful."
"Let's ask Lapras to give us a ride." Ben said.
"If you're going underwater, I guess that means you two are on your own." Fei said.
"Look after Pichu for me, okay?"
"Understood." Yuuko nodded.
Ben and Sumer hurried to the beach. "Hey, Nixie! We need to borrow Lapras!"
"I heard. You're going to look for the Shining Coral Charm, right? Good luck."
"Thanks." Ben and Summer climbed onto the Pokémon's shell.
"Lapa!" Lapras swam off into the distance. As they approached their destination, the Rangers put on their googles and Aqua Lungs.
They dove in. "Last time I was down here I was looking for wreckage of a Z.Z. Flyer." Ben said. "I seriously hope we don't run into any of those Sharpedo."
"I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear that." Summer muttered. As they went through the swirling currents, Ben caught a Mantyke. Then they searched a small opening in the wall and found a Luvdisc whimpering. "Huh?"
The Voice Nav. spoke up. "That Luvdisc has something in its mouth. Capture it, claim it down, and find out what it is."
"Right." Ben and Summer shot their Capture Stylers. They looped around the Pokemon until it stopped wailing.
Summer swam over to it. "Are you okay? Don't worry, we'll help you." She soothingly said, petting it. She examined its mouth and gently removed something. "Ouch, that must have hurt, poor thing."
The Luvdisc happily swam around Summer. "What is it?" Ben asked as he approached.
Summer stared at the shiny object in her hand. "Let's just say that poor fisherman is in for a major disappointment."
"Wait, you mean it's-
"Anyway, that's one task we came here for." Summer said, pocketing the object. "Now for the charm."
They continued deeper into the sea until they heard Ben's Styler speak. "There is something shinny over there."
They spotted a glistening. "Is that it?" Summer asked.
Suddenly a Kingdra spotted it and grabbed it. "Hey!" Ben swam towards it. As it saw the Rangers approach it went deeper into the water. "Ah, not this again!"
As Ben and Summer pursued Kingdra it shoot bubbles at them. "Be carful Ben!" Summer said as they evaded while continuing their pursuit. Slowly Summer closed the gap between them. "Almost got it!" Just as she got close, Kingdra summoned whirlpools that blew her back, shrieking.
Ben closed in next and soon grabbed it. "Gotchya!" Agitated, the Kingdra rammed Ben into the coral wall. "Gah! A little help, Summer?!"
"Kingdra seems quite agitated."
"Yeah, thanks Voice Nav.!"
"I'm coming!" Summer said, aiming her Styler. She started drawing loops around Kingdra. Mantyke and Luvdisc spewed bubbles at it. Once Kingdra slowed down, Ben slowly let it go. It dropped the charm and swam away tired. Summer picked it up. "Phew! Looks like we managed to find it. Let's hurry back to the surface."
Summer handed over the Shining Coral Charm to the little girl. "This is it, right? Here you go."
"Thank you, Ranger! My brother will be ecstatic when he sees it!"
The fisherman walked over to them. "What about my lure?"
"Is this it?" Summer asked taking something out of her pocket.
The man jumped for joy as he took it. "That's my lure! So, what was the supersized Pokemon that took it? My gut says it was a Wailord…"
Ben and Summer looked at each other awkwardly. "You sure you want to know?" Ben asked.
"What? It wasn't that big? Then maybe a Kingdra?" Neither Ranger answered. "No? At least a Shapredo, right? No…?"
Ben glanced at Summer. "You wanna tell him, or should I?"
"Well…" Summer opened the Browser on her Styler. "Here, let me show you."
The man shook his head and held his hand up before she could search for the Pokemon in question. "I won't ask anymore. You can keep it to yourself. No one likes being disappointed, you know? Anyway, I can try for a good catch with the lure you got back for me. Thank you, Rangers."
Fei spotted a young man mopping as he made his was down the beach. "Hey kid, is that your brother sulking over there?"
The man stopped when he saw them. "What's up? Anything good happening around you? Nothing has gone right with me lately…I've lost the Shining Coral Charm from my girlfriend, and what's more, I have a stomachache now…"
"Well, we heard about the first one." Summer said, gently pushing the girl's shoulder.
She trotted over to her brother. "Your stomachache must be all in your mind. Here you go, bro!"
The man gasped as he saw what his sister was giving him. "Th-that's my…!" He looked to her, and she turned to Ben and Summer. "I see. You asked the Rangers to help you. Thank you, Rangers! Thanks to you three, my stomachache is completely gone! I'm so relieved I don't have to cancel the date!"
"You were just too ashamed to face her, weren't you?" Fei asked.
"You had no stomachache after all, did you?" the girl asked.
The man patted her on the head. "Hahaha, I can't hide anything from you."
As he walked away, Ben and Summer posed. "Quests Clear!"
After a certain Quest a young boy gave them involving a Bidoof, the group noticed a man tending his Starly. "Hey, that looks like a smaller version of your partner." FanBeemon said.
"That's a Starly." Summer replied. "The starter form of Staraptor."
"It's natural to feel attached to kids and Pokemon, of course." the elderly man sighed. "But pampering them too much won't do much good either."
"What's wrong sir?" Ben asked.
"My Starly here has forgotten how to fly high in the sky."
"Seriously?" Ben asked.
"It never has to work hard. Eating yummy food and taking naps all the time…Being protected by me, it lives life of no worries. I may have pampered it too much."
"Sta…"
"Don't you think it cries in a relaxed way, too?"
"It's too bad my Staraptor isn't feeling well right now." Summer said. "Then it could help demonstrate flight to it."
"Sounds to me like there's only one thing to do." Fei said. "Your little bird needs some training."
"You think you can give my Starly a little hard work so it remembers that it can fly?"
"You sure about this Fei?" Ben asked. "Pokemon and Digimon aren't the same thing you know."
Fei picked up the Pokemon, making it squawk. "Pfft, relax, I know how to train a guy bent out of shape."
"Yeah, let us handle it sir!" FanBeemon said. "We'll have your spoiled Starly in the air in no time! You guys go find someone else to help and come back in a little while, we got this!"
Yuuko put a hand on Ben's shoulder. "Let's trust Fei on this. I'm sure it'll work out."
"Well…okay." Ben said.
Another man in Cocona Village sighed to himself. "I guess a couple sometimes argue no matter how much they love each other."
"Something wrong sir?" Ben asked as he, Summer and Yuuko approached him.
The man pointed to the house behind him. "You see, the old man and the old lady in this house were the best couple in our village until something happened, and they started arguing."
"What happened?" Summer asked.
"They set out for a berry hunt as usual…Then something happened during their lunch, I heard. Rangers, I know you're busy, but could you help them make up?"
"A berry hunt huh? There are a lot of them in the forest." Yuuko said.
"I'll see what we can do." Ben replied. "Quest on!"
"I don't know if being a Ranger makes you qualified for marriage counselling Ben." Yuuko said.
"We can at least try. I mean how bad can it be?"
"You don't enjoy eating lunch with me!?"
"I never said anything of the sort!"
"Then why did you leave me while we were eating lunch?"
"I don't know what you're talking about! It was you who left me before I knew it!"
"I left while you were eating lunch? How can you believe such nonsense?"
"I'd say pretty bad." Summer sighed.
Ben's hands were over his ears. "This was soooooo much more then I bargained for."
The elderly couple spotted the Rangers and Yuuko. "Oh, Rangers. How long have you been here?" the man asked.
"Longer than I wanted to be."
"Since you're here, you don't you listen to my story? My lady and I were on a berry hunt near Rasp Cavern."
The wife interjected. "I managed to pick up 20 of them, but he got only eight."
"Keep quiet, dear!"
"Um, can we please move on with this?" Yuuko asked.
"Oh, excuse us. Let me continue. Those 28 berries were enough to make jam, so we decided to have lunch. There happened to be two rocks next to each other, just the right size for both my dear and me. So, we sat there and started having lunch."
Summer looked like she had something on her mind. "Go on."
"By the time I was halfway done, I wanted to tell her how good it was…But when I turned to her, she was sitting far away from me, eating lunch all alone!" The man scowled at her. "Deeear?! Do you hate eating with me that much?"
"I was on the same rock the whole time! I noticed that he was slowly going away."
"Are you saying that my rock moved? How can I believe such nonsense?"
"Hold on…"
The wife looked at Summer. "…? Ranger, have you got any thoughts?"
Summer thought for a moment. "Ben, Yuuko, we're going to Rasp Cavern. Come on."
As she left the house Ben and Yuuko hurried after her. "Rasp Cavern? What for?" Ben asked.
"Oh, I see. We'll give them some berries as a gift to put them in a better mood." Yuuko said. "That might improve the situation a little bit, but-
"Huh? No, not that!" Summer shook her head. "We're looking into that mysterious moving rock."
"I'm sorry, what?" Ben asked with a cocked eyebrow.
While they moved through Teakwood Forest the team heard a squawk followed by Waspmon's voice. "Oh, come on, that was just a love tap, now keep it moving!"
Everyone looked into the distance in concern. "You sure about this Yuuko?" Summer asked.
"It'll be fine...probably."
"Okay, what do you mean probably? What if Starly runs away?"
"In any case." Yuuko said ignoring her objection. "You still haven't told us why we're here."
Summer sighed. "Just ignore me, why don't you. Wait until we get inside Rasp Cavern."
They entered the cavern and started searching. "Are you going to tell us what we're doing here now?" Guilmon asked.
"We're looking for a rock big enough for them to sit on."
"How about that one?" Ben asked pointing at a bolder at the side of the path.
"Yup. That must be it." Summer examined it. "Hmmm…"
"Summer…you don't actually believe that rock moved while they it was sat on, do you?"
"Maybe I do." Summer grinned. "Good thing I caught this guy on patrol. Shellos, soak that rock!"
Summer's Friend Pokemon spewed water at the bolder. Ben, Yuuko, Pichu and Guilmon watched it blankly. And then they saw…
"Oh, you've gotta be flippin' kidding me." Ben groaned.
On their way back, Ben, Yuuko and Summer stopped by the man who was still waiting for Fei and his Starly. "Fei still isn't back yet?" Ben asked.
"No, not yet."
"I have a bad feeling about this." Summer muttered.
"Have faith in Fei, she said she'll handle it and she will." Yuuko replied.
"Sta!"
Everyone looked up and saw Starly flying proudly. "Oh, my Starly!" The man ran under it. "That's it! Way to go, Starly!"
"Staaaa!"
"Sorry for the wait." Fei said as she returned with FanBeemon. "That overgrown pigeon's fit and trim again, so it's good to fly around."
"I mistook pampering for love. Now I feel sorry for my Starly. But it'll be alright now. Thank you, young lady!"
"Ah, it was nothin'. Now make sure you stay in shape little bird."
"Staaa!"
"Way to go Fei!" Summer smiled. "I guess you really did have this well in hand."
"What did I tell ya?"
"Fei trained a lot of people back in Zaxon." Yuuko said. "She can be strict, but she's a capable teacher."
"Well, that's taken care off." Fei said. She then spotted a peculiar Pokemon near Summer. "What'd you bring that thing along for?"
"Oh this?" Summer asked. "I'll explain in a bit. When we get back to our client."
Back in the village Summer explained her theory to the man who asked for their help. "…and that's the gist of it."
"So that Pokemon was the mysterious moving rock, I see! Aha! That explains everything. What are you waiting for? Go and explain to them!"
They all entered the angry couple's house. "Excuse me." Summer said.
The man looked at the Geodude she brought with her. "What did you bring that Pokemon for?"
"Geodude."
The Pokemon got on the floor and curled up. It looked just like a normal rock. "Oh, I get it!" the woman exclaimed. "He wasn't sitting on a real rock, right?"
The man gasped. "Oh, I see! I was sitting not on a rock, but that Pokemon when it looked like a rock! It then slowly moved away from my dearest!"
"Bingo." Summer winked.
The couple held hands. "Dear…I'm sorry I doubted you."
"I feel bad for calling you hardheaded. Sorry."
"No need for an apology. I was indeed hardheaded."
"Geo! Geo!" Everyone turned to the Pokemon.
"Whoa...!"
"It got us. Hahaha."
The client smiled at the team. "Rangers, they are happy again thanks to you. All's well that ends well." Both he and Geodude left.
"Quest Clear!"
"Hmmm…"
"Something on your mind Yuuko?" Fei asked.
"I wounder…"
"What is it?" Ben asked. "You look pretty deep in thought."
"It's nothing, just…"
"Good grief, enough suspense, just tell us already!" Summer said.
"Do you think that jam would go good on that superspicy bread?"
Summer blinked. "That's what you're so deep in thought over?!"
