Takes place during chapter 14 of Cyber Ranger Guardian Story.
It was right after helping those people at the Wireless Tower and meeting Kenkimon. After a quick break at Rand's place, Ben, Takumi, Ami, and Nokia returned to Tilt Village. "Alright, better go see how the others are doing back at the Union." Takumi said.
"I hope they were able to get some info out of Blue Eyes." Ben said. "At the very least, Summer's location."
Terriermon lifted his ears up. "Huh? Do you guys hear that? That sounds like crying."
"Crying? From where?" Ami asked.
"That house over by the end of the village."
"Man, those ears of yours are sharp." Nokia said.
"They could be someone in trouble." Takumi said. "We should check it out. Blue Eyes isn't going anywhere. Especially not if Makiko and Matayoshi have their eyes on her."
"I guess you're right." Ben replied. "Lead the way Terriermon."
Terriermon brought them into a house with a stylish pink and yellow carpet. A young girl was sobbing to herself at her desk. "Um…hello?" Ben murmured.
The girl looked up, rushed to Ben and grabbed his shoulders. "Ranger! Where did my Purugly go? Where is it?!"
"Uh…" Ben panicked. "Guys, help?"
"Hey, we're not the Pokemon Ranger in the group." Nokia replied.
The woman backed up. "Oh, I'm sorry. I…I just got too upset…My Purugly is missing."
"What happened?" Ami asked.
"It broke one of my favorite antique dishes, so I yelled at it without meaning to. Then it just left through the window…"
"Uh, oh." Ben murmured.
The girl grabbed his shoulders again. "Ranger! Where did my Purugly go? Where is it?! My Purugly! My poor Purugly!"
Ben's Styler beeped. "This lady seems very upset."
"Thank you, Voice Nav.!" Ben replied sarcastically. "Then again, just like that you proved more helpful in this situation then the three people hiding behind me."
"Hey!" Nokia glared.
"Will you search for the missing Purugly immediately?"
Ben sighed. "Look, lady, we'll look for your Pokemon, you just stay here and try to compose yourself."
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I…I just got upset again…Please find my Purugly!"
Ben turned to his team. "Well gang, we're on a missing Pokemon search. Let's get to work."
"Right." Takumi nodded.
"We searched for missing Digimon before." Ami said. "We're on the case!"
"Yeah, this is just like the time we were looking for Tokomon!" Nokia smiled. "Leave it too us!"
"Quest On!" Ben posed.
The team went straight to Mitonga Road. "Okay, with the bridge out, the Purugly couldn't have left this island." Takumi said.
"But this island is huge." Ami said. "Finding it won't be easy."
"Hi, Ranger!" A man walked over to them. "Are you looking for something? I make it a routine to take a walk on Mitonga Road. Perhaps I can help you."
"We're looking for a lost Purugly." Ben replied. "Have you seen it by any chance?"
"Oh, a Purugly? I saw one running towards the Old Mansion."
"Really?!" Palmon asked.
"It was crying. It sounded really sad…Wait that Pokemon talks?! Oh, it must be one of those Digimon things I heard about, right?"
"Oh good, they're finally learning." Terriemron said.
"Forget about that, Terriermon." Takumi said. "What's important now is that we know where the Purugly went.
"Right!" Ben nodded. "To the Old Mansi…" He then saw the panic in Ami's eyes. "…Oh."
Takumi looked at his sister. "Ami…You can wait back at the village. We'll go look for Purugly."
Ami shut her eyes and shook her head. "No! I took up this case with you, now I have to finish it!"
"Ami, is your pride really worth-
"It's not just my pride I'm worried about! It's the honor of the Kuremi Detective Agency! I can't let you and Kyoko down like that!"
Takumi sighed. He was fighting a losing battle here. "…Fine. But no running off on your own. Stick with me. Clear?"
"Okay."
The team got inside the Old Mansion. "Brrr…this place still gives me cold chills." Nokia said.
Ami was squeezing her brother's hand as her heartbeat accelerated and her breathing became frantic. "Just let me know if you need to leave." Takumi said.
"Okay…"
Ben looked around. "This place is huge. But I guess with Ami here, we can't split up like last time."
"So, where do we start looking?" Palmon asked.
"Actually, I've been thinking about that." Takumi said. "Why would Purugly come here of all places?"
"Well, I don't think many people come by here." Gabumon said. "Maybe it wanted to be alone?"
"Perhaps…or maybe it has to do with what happened with its owner just now."
"What do you mean?" Ben asked.
"Ben, when we were here earlier, you mentioned something about plates."
"…I don't want to talk about it." Ben muttered looking away.
"Where was that?"
"In a dinning room at the far back of the mansion."
"Lead the way."
Ben groaned. "Do we really have to go back there?"
"What? Don't tell me you're scared."
"I'm sorry, I just have a thing against haunted plates using me for a dart board!"
"W-what did you say?" Ami shivered.
"Wow Ben. Really think I'm gonna fall for that?" Takumi squinted.
"Well, it's either that or vases flying at us!" Nokia retorted.
"Guys, I'd appreciate you not trying to scare Ami with these exaggerations, she's already being pushed a lot just coming here!"
"Takumi, we're being serious!" Ben yelled.
The unconvinced Cyber Sleuth sighed. "Alright, alright, just lead us to the dinning room Ben. And don't bonk your head against one of these "haunted" walls on the way, I don't think we need you hallucinating again."
As they made their way down the halls, a Misdreavus and a Gastly snuck up on them. "Hmm?" Takumi sensed something and looked behind him. As soon as they did the Pokemon made faces. "WHOA!"
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!" Nokia and Ami screamed as they grabbed onto Takumi.
"Capture on!" Ben twirled his Styler around them as Pichu played music. Once they were tamed, they flew over to his side. "Alright, I got them, we're clear. …Guys?"
Takumi looked awkwardly at Ben as Nokia and Ami practically held his arms down. "Um…a little help?"
Ben smirked. "Hey man, most guys would pay good money to be in your position right now." Terriemron, Palmon, and Pichu laughed.
"Not funny Ben!"
Ben laughed as he shook Nokia's shoulder. "Nokia! It's okay! They're on our side now!"
Nokia calmed down and turned to the Pokemon. She slowly let go of Takumi's arm. "Oh…okay…cool…"
"Anyway, the Dinning Room is right over here. Come on." Ben led them into the next room. The first thing he noticed was the plates that were destroyed the last time he was in said room were mysteriously back where they were in one piece. "What the…the plates that were flung at me, Murph and Yuugo are back where they were? When…how…?"
"As a detective I can deduct it into two possible theories." Takumi said. "A: you're exaggerating, and frankly it stopped being funny five minutes ago or B: you were hallucinating and should probably go see a doctor. Care to flip that coin?"
"But-
"Hey, look!" Palmon pointed at a large cat like Pokemon, its front legs on the table while standing on it's hind legs.
"That's Purugly!" Ben said. "But what's it doing here? It looks like it's searching for something."
"I knew it." Takumi said. "Remember what the client said about why she yelled at it?"
"Because it broke an antique dish, right?" Ami asked.
"Exactly. You have to be pretty rich to afford living in a mansion like this. Amun must have all kinds of expensive and antique dishes in here."
"I get it!" Terriermon said. "Purguly went to find a new one to make up to its owner!"
"Way to go detective!" Nakio grinned.
"Hey, Purugly!" Ben walked over to the Pokemon. It got down from the table with a plate in its mouth. "There you are! Your owner's looking for you." The Pokemon must have understood what Ben said, for as soon as he mentioned its master, it hurried over to him. "Found what you were looking for? Come on. Let's get you home."
Purugly nodded. Then just as they were walking towards the exit, the plate stared vibrating in its mouth. It slipped out and floated in the air.
"What the…?!" Takumi yelled.
"Again, with this?" Ben growled. The plate hit Purugly over the head. Suddenly the rest of the dishes from the table rose. Ben narrowly ducked under a plate and it shattered against a wall. "So, smart guy, still think I was exaggerating or hallucinating?!" he asked glaring at Takumi.
The teen looked at the floating plates. "Haunted plates huh? Okay, I see the solid evidence here. Unless one of those Ghost Pokemon startled me so much I'm in some kind of delusional coma right now."
Purugly ran off as more started coming. Gastly and, Misdreavus where hit by plates and ran away shrieking. "I…can't help but feel there's some sort of irony to consider there." Ben muttered as he saw that. "But right now, we need to get Purugly! Takumi, let's go!"
"Can't help you." Takumi sighed as Nokia and Ami reattached themselves to his arms screaming. "Got my hands full."
"Pepper Breath!"
"Terrier Tornado!" Terriermon, Agumon, and the other Partner Digimon smashed the plates that flew at their Tamers. "And we got our hands full keeping these three safe!"
"You keep doing that. Pichu, let's go!"
"Pichu!"
Ben and Pichu ran down the room. Plates smashed into the wall as they dodged them. The Ranger slide under one, backflipped away from another, leapt forward and rolled under another, and soon he and Pichu caught up to the Purugly. It was stuck in the corner as more plates surrounded it. Pichu destroyed the dishes with electricity as Ben looped his Styler around Purugly repeatedly to calm it down.
"I got Purugly!" Ben said as he returned to the group.
"Good job! Now let's get out of here before they decide to throw the kitchen sink at us!" Takumi replied.
"Don't give this creepy place any ideas!" Ben yelled as they fled the room.
Now out of the mansion, the team went back down Mitonga Road with Purugly in tow. "Man, am I glad that's over." Nokia panted.
"Are you okay Ami?" Takumi asked.
The girl was trembling, still staying close to her brother. "Y-yeah…"
Purugly was walking slowly, looking at the floor. "What's wrong with the cat?" Terriermon asked.
"It must be upset that it couldn't get a replacement for that dish." Palmon replied.
"Aww." Nokia kneeled to it. "Don't worry about it Purugly. Your owner was far too worried about to even care about that dirty old thing. She'll just be happy to see you safe and sound."
"Nokia's right!" Agumon smiled. Purugly looked at the peppy faces around it and straightened up.
"Ben, Takumi, and Ami, right? I've heard about you."
Ben turned around and saw the man from before. "Oh, hey. Thanks for your help. We were able to find Purugly."
"I figured you would. I know you are working so hard for Oblivia. This may seem so trivial, and I feel bad for asking you…"
"What's wrong?"
"My Happiny has gone to Noir Forrest and hasn't come back yet."
"A Happiny? In the creepy forest alone?!"
"It's made good friends with Dusclops, which is okay. But it's almost time for a meal. It needs to learn when to stop playing."
"Let me guess. Those Disclops won't let you near it." Takumi said.
The man nodded. "I went to Noir Forest to bring back Happiny, but Dusclops kept sending me back to the entrance. I thought you might listen and help me, Ranger and Cyber Sleuths! What do you think? Could you bring back my Happiny?"
"Quest On!" Ben posed.
"That's his way of saying yes." Ami smirked.
"So sorry to trouble you in a time like this. Do you know where Noir Forest is?"
"Yup. We've been there before." Nokia replied.
"Uh, guys? What about Purugly? Shouldn't we get it back to it's owner?" Palmon asked.
"Eh, she can wait a little." Nokia replied. "I'm sure she's doing juuuust fine."
"My Purugly! My Purugly! My Purugly!" the young lady cried, soaking her table with her tears.
The team entered Noir Forest. "Okay, here we are." Ben said. "Now we need to be careful. Those Dusclops will teleport us right back to the entrance if they spot us."
"Right. How about this." Takumi said. "I'll distract them with Terriermon. While we draw them away, you guys search for Hapinny."
"Alright, just be carful."
"Don't worry, the worst they'll do is send us back here. Come on partner."
"Okay!" Terriermon and Takumi ran up ahead to a Dusclops. "Terrier Tornado!" He blew a tornado at it and as soon as it turned around, he and Takumi ran in another direction leading it that way.
"Alright, let's go." Ben said. He and Pichu, along with Nokia, Ami and their Digimon took off deeper into the forest. After evading the Ghost Pokemon for a bit, they eventually spotted a small pink Pokemon. "There it is! That's Happiny!"
"I'm amazed that little guy made friends with those Dusclops." Ami muttered.
"Really? It's so cute! Who wouldn't want to be friends with him?" Nokia asked.
Ben looked at his Styler. "Well, it says here Hapinny house amazing strength, so I better be carful with this Capture."
"That cutesy little guy? Yeah right, I'll believe it when I see it." Ami said.
"Hapi!" The small Pokemon smiled. It lifted up a bolder five times it's size over it's little head using Strength.
"Okay, I believe it."
"Look out!" Ben yelled. They all scattered as it hurled it at them. Once it was done and open, Ben twirled his Styler around it. It turned to him and hopped over to his side. "Good boy. Now let's get you back, your owner is worried about you." The Happiny gave him a confused look.
"Don't listen to him!" a raspy voice said from seemingly nowhere.
Ben looked around. "Did you girls hear that?"
"Yeah. Is someone there?" Nokia asked. For an answer a string of something thick and white flew over her and pulled her back. "AAAAAAAAAAAH!"
"Nokia!" Agumon and Gabumon looked behind them. A thick web tied Nokia to a tree against her back. Two blobs of web from the overgrowth behind that tree flew at Agumon and Gabumon tying them up.
"Where did that come from?!" Ben yelled. Rustling and snickering sounds got his attention as he looked around franticly. He heard a yelp and looked behind him. Now Pichu was on the ground webbed up. "Pichu!" Suddenly a web wrapped him trapping his arms to his torso. "Hey!"
Ami shrieked as webbing did the same to her. She struggled to pull it off her, but it held firm. "What's going on?!"
Palmon heard a laugh from up in a tree. "Poison Ivy!" She thrusted her thorns into the tree and something came out. A green bug with purple feet and beak.
"Ow! Tch! Cheep shot plant girl!"
"Dokunemon!" Palmon gasped. "You were brought to this world too?!"
"You know this Digimon?" Ami asked.
"Yeah. Back in the Digital World she caused nothing but trouble for everyone. Especially for those who talk about humans. What are you doing here?"
The enemy Digimon ignored her and instead turned to the Pokemon near Ben. "Happiny, I told you didn't I? Your human won't mind if you stay here as long as you like. You don't ever have to go back if you don't want to…"
"So, you're the reason why he didn't come back!" Ami glared.
The Digimon looked at the other Pokemon accompanying them. "And what about you Purugly? I told you, you can find a new dish in the mansion. If you don't bring something nice back, your human is going to be reeeeealy mad."
"You led Purugly there?!" Ben asked. "Why?!"
"Because…humans are weak."
"Wha…?"
"And the more time you waste with humans the more you yourself become weak!"
"What kind of messed up logic is that?!" Nokia yelled. "Humans and Digimon get stronger by working together! Same with Pokemon! We-MPH!" She was silenced when Dokunemon shot a small piece of web that hit Nokia in the mouth sealing it shut. Now all her protests were reduced to muffled grunts.
"Jeez you're loud. And annoying! All of you ruined my fun! Maybe I should punish you stupid little humans!"
Palmon stepped in front of Ami. "Don't even think about it!"
"So that's the human you kept rambling on bout Palmon? Your precious partner that makes you think your special? Look at her! She's a dumb brat in a trap!"
"I won't let you hurt Ami!" Palmon charged at Dokunemon. "Crescent Leaf!" She swiped at the bug but it jumped back.
"Nanomachine Break!" The opponent rammed into Palmon, cloaking herself in electricity.
"Poison Ivy!" As Palmon was flung back she coiled her vines around Dokunemon. When Palmon landed on her feet she swung Dokunemon into a tree. Palmon then jumped at her, but that was the opportunity Dokenemon wanted.
"Electric Thread!" She shot an electrified web at her that hit her in mid air. Not only did it tie Palmon up, but the impact flung her into Ami, who was struggling in her own web, sticking them together. To make matters worse, since Palmon's web was electrified…
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Ami and Palmon screamed as they were shocked. Ami's feeble attempts to struggle free did none to help as her strength was sapped and she dropped to her knees.
"Ami!" Ben yelled as he tried to break free from his own web.
Dokunemon laughed as the Digimon and Tamer suffered together. "That's right, what good is your partnership now! Suffer! Squirm! You're nothing!"
Just then Purugly slashed into the back of the web tying down Ami and Palmon. It came apart and Ami along with Palmon collapsed to the ground. "What?!" Happiny rammed into Dokunemon, slamming her into a tree. "GAAAAAAAAAAH!"
Ami panted as she looked at the Pokemon that saved her. "Purugly! Happiny!"
"What are you two doing?!" Dokunemon growled.
"It looks like they aren't willing to abandon their bond with humans." Ben replied. "You failed."
"That's…that's insane! What good will it do you to linger with those weaklings?! Look at that girl you just helped! As she does is bark orders while hiding behind Palmon! She's scared of some dumb old mansion! What good can she do?!"
With her hands now free Ami put on her goggles. The lenses glowed green. "I'll show you."
DIGIVOLUTION
"Palmon Digivolve to…Togamon!"
Dokunemon shuddered. "W-what?! How'd you Digivolve all the sudden?!"
"It's thanks to the bond I share with my partner! Someone who looks down on humans for no real reason like you would never understand it!"
"D-don't stupid! No power from humans can best me! Electric Thread!"
"Needle Spray!" Togamon's attack tore the new web fired towards her apart and pelted Dokunemon. As it was wincing and staggering, Togamon ran over and punched it so hard it flew a good distance.
Ami had her hands at her hips, glaring at the Digimon. "Still wanna go?"
Dokunemon growled. "I'll remember this! You'll all pay!" She then fled into the overgrowth.
With her gone, Ami, Purugly and Togamon went around freeing Ben and the others. "Are you okay?" Ami asked, unwrapping the web around the Ranger.
"I'm fine."
"Bleagh!" Nokia was happy to have that web out of her mouth. "That was gross! What's that thing's problem anyway?!"
"She was surrounded by Digimon spreading bad rumors about humans." Palmon said after returning to her Rookie form. "I guess that's how she got her twisted philosophy."
"Rumors are powerful even though they rarely accurately reflect the reality." Ami sighed. "In any case, thanks for saving us you two." She smiled at the Pokemon who cried out happily.
"Let's get them back to their owners now." Ben said.
"Guys, what about Takumi?" Nokia asked.
"Don't worry, I got a good guess where he is."
Takumi and Terriemron were slumped against a tree at the entrance of the forest exhausted. "How many times did they dump you back here?" Ben asked.
"Twenty-five!" Terriermon wheezed.
"What the heck took you so long?" Takumi groaned.
"There were some…unforeseen complications." Ami replied. "Come on. Let's get back to our clients."
"Wow! Thank you so much, Ranger!" The man smiled before scowling at his Pokemon. "You, Happiny! What time do you think it is? You made me worried! You need to know when to stop playing!"
"Pi…ny…"
"Hey now, I think he got the message." Takumi said sternly.
"It wasn't the little guy's fault, he was tricked." Nokia added.
The man sighed. "Okay, enough lecturing. Happiny, did you have fun today? Were the Dusclops nice to you?"
"Piny!" the Pokemon nodded.
"That's good!"
"Happiny!" The Pokemon bounced as it followed the man back to Tilt Village.
"Quest Clear! Alright, we should head back ourselves." Ben said. "That lady must be worried sick about her precious Purugly."
"You mean even more then previously." Ami said.
As soon as they got to the village, they went inside the house near the far right of the village. "Hello."
The young lady looked up from her tears and saw Ben and his team along with… "Purugly! Oh, my Purugly!" Purugly tearfully ran to its owner who stroked its fur. "I'm so sorry I yelled at you, Purugly…So where have you been all this time, my Purugly?"
"It was over at the Old Mansion." Takumi replied. "It was looking for something. And I think I know what."
"Huh?"
"It was in the dinning room. Where a bunch of old dishes were kept."
"And thrown at us by ghosts!" Agumon added.
"Purugly, were you looking for an old dish?" the lady asked, ignoring Agumon's statement entirely. "I guess you couldn't just take one out of guilt, right?"
"That's...one way to put it." Gabumon replied.
The lady hugged the Pokemon. "Oh, Purugly! My Purugly! My precious Purugly! Purugly! Purugly!"
"This lady seems very upset. We should leave her alone."
"Sounds good to me." Ben replied to his Styler. "Come on guys." As soon as they left Ben posed. "Quest Clear!"
"That felt good." Nokia smiled. "We helped out two people who lost their cute Pokemon!"
"I'm still worried about Dokunemon." Ami sighed.
"Dokunemon?" Terriermon asked. "That little troublemaker from back home?"
"We ran into her in the forest." Palmon explained. "She thinks any Pokemon or Digimon supporting humans is weak and attacked us. We chased her off, but she said she'll be back."
"Who's this?" Takumi asked.
"A Digimon that gave Purugly the idea to go to the Old Mansion and convinced Happiny to stay in the forest." Ben replied. "We'd better keep an eye out for anymore of its mischief. But for now, I think we kept the others waiting long enough. Let's get back to the Union."
As they walked away, the failed to notice a red Z.Z. Flyer was hovering above the village. A blond man with red eyes and a red vest was watching them. "There you are. Now let's see if you're in a bargaining mood. I'm going to take Blue Eyes back no matter what it takes."
