Chapter one:
Today is Mikeys birthday making him an adult like his brothers. And of course right on the same day he starts to present.
Presenting is a rather common thing in this world.
Everyone, mutants and humans alike, present sometime after becoming an adult. The day they presented depended on each and every one, some right away while others take longer. They'll either present as an Alpha that is very dominating, or an Omega that is very submissive. Though on rare occasions one might not present as either and be a beta, a neutral of the three.
Raph and Donnie are waiting in the living room. They had presented as alphas so as a safety precaution they're not allowed in Mikeys room.
Alphas, unlike betas, can get triggered to mate an omega if they smell them in heat; which when an omega first presents it is like a very mild shorter version of a heat.
Presenting usually means hours or a day of feeling hot, only slightly horny, a bit sick, and have their new instincts shoot through them like electric shocks. Gaining the alpha or omega instincts and the specific hormones of what they present as.
"Ugh. I hate waiting like this." Raph lays back on the couch while Donnie is standing in front of it. He notices Donnie look to the closed door of Mikeys room.
Inside Splinter a proud beta and Leo are making sure things go okay.
Leo is the eldest of the brothers though he hasn't presented yet as far as they know. His scent hasn't gained either an alpha smell or an omega smell, like what happens when one presents.
The others just assume he's probably a beta and Leo doesn't even bring up the topic.
Betas can technically act as an omega or alpha if they fall in love and start a relationship. However betas lack what omegas and alphas have. Betas cannot go into heat or a rut, male betas cannot get pregnant like male omegas can, and they cannot knot like alphas can. A few betas even allow their partner to have a second partner, one that can satisfy the omega and alpha instincts and cravings. While others manage to keep their partner satisfied on their own.
Leo is still their leader no matter if he ever did present. He is seen as a leader in their eyes, even though to outsiders alphas outrank betas, the two alphas are willing to follow him.
Raph knows that Donnie and Mikey are closer to each other than him or Leo. Thus he isn't really surprised that Donnie is more worried.
The two have spent a lot more time together than with the other two. Though they do also have a close relationship with Leo and Raph too. Just not as close.
"He'll be fine. Leo and Splinter won't leave until they are sure of that." Raph tries to assure a nervous Donnie who nods softly. He can tell the other is thinking of the rare times that presenting goes wrong. He had heard of the one who presents dies, as the alpha or omega hormones become like a deadly disease. He isn't too worried about that happening as he knows that it is very unlikely to happen. "It's a really small risk." He adds as Donnie looks away to the ground. "Have some faith."
Donnie sighs and flops to sit down next to the other alpha. "I can't help it. There's no known way to fix things when things go wrong. Always resulting in death." He slightly glances to his brother when a hand comes to rest on his shoulder.
"Chill. It's been almost the whole day and there hasn't been any commotion up there." Raph points out only to see it doesn't really help.
"Yeah but those two are really good at keeping calm! What if they're managing to stay calm while somethings going wrong?" Donnie anxiously suggests causing Raph to sigh heavily rolling his eyes.
Raph grabs Donnie by the shoulders and forces the fellow alpha to look at him. "Donnie. Stop this. You're working yourself up over nothing. Mikey is going to make it out of this fine. Stop trying to play a bad scenario that won't happen. Just take a deep breath and just know it'll be okay."
Donnie stares at Raph for a moment and knows the other won't back down. He is well aware how stubborn Raph can be. He sometimes admired Leo who takes on handling the other. He closes his eyes taking a deep breath. He doesn't want to lose one of his brothers. He just knows that Raph has a point since almost everyone is fine when presenting. He opens his eyes feeling calmer. He nods his head so the other lets him go.
The two turn away trying to decide what to do now while they continue to wait. They turn with Donnie leaping to his feet as they hear the door open.
Splinter exits out of the room closing the door behind himself. He heads down to the living room that is down the stairs on the main floor of the lair. He approaches them and the two almost instantly have their noses flooded with a strong smell.
A new omegas scent.
They had been expecting Mikey to be an omega, based on his childishness plus his kindness and him never wanting to be dominant.
Splinter smiles to the two alphas. "We now have an omega in our ranks." He confirms to them and Donnie leans back with a relieved sigh.
Donnie can tell that Mikey is okay by how Splinter told them the news.
Raph turns as Leo exits out of the room closing the door behind himself.
Leo joins the others in the living room also smelling of the same omega. He seems glad that it all went well.
"Remember to stay away from Mikeys room until tomorrow when the presentation is over." Splinter orders the two alphas who nod in understanding. He heads away into the kitchen.
"Hey! Leo. Wanna do a little extra training?" Raph offers and Leo shrugs in agreement.
"Just let me try to get this scent off of me." Leo tells Raph who nods his head to this. He heads to the bathroom to wash it off.
Raph glances to Donnie. "You joining?" He inquires to which the other shakes his head.
"I'm going to spend some time in my lab instead. I should get some stuff done. Especially now that I know that everything is indeed okay." Donnie gets up as Raph shrugs it off. He leaves to his lab to do the work he said he would.
Raph waits for Leo to finish washing off the scent. He heads with him to the training room once he comes out of the bathroom.
The next morning everyone is at the table eating some breakfast except for Mikey.
Splinter and Leo are letting him sleep in after what happened yesterday.
The alphas especially smell Mikeys omega scent before he enters the kitchen.
"Morning." Mikey mentions as he grabs some cereal pouring it into a bowl. He does still seem a little tired.
"You didn't want to sleep for longer?" Splinter inquires to which Mikey shakes his head.
"Too hungry." Mikey informs them which is understandable as presenting takes a lot out of one. He was provided with food by Splinter and Leo while his body was presenting, though all of it probably was used by his body to aid the process.
"Eat some toast as well." Splinter suggests to which Mikey agrees before yawning. "You don't have to join training today. Take the day to rest up."
"Thank you sensei." Mikey sounds rather grateful for this. He grabs a cup of coffee with his bowl of cereal, then sits down at the table with his brothers.
"If I may." Leo speaks up bringing attention to him. "I would suggest that, at least until those living above us know better, one of us should go out anywhere with Mikey. You've seen how a bunch of them treat omegas. I don't want that happening to our brother."
"I think it's a good idea. Some alphas up there especially humans seem to feel entitled. And not to mention treat omegas as if they're property to be used as an alpha pleases." Raphs eyes narrow and his teeth clench at the mention of how some alphas are. He can feel the disgust for that sort of behavior shoot down his spine. He notices that the others don't seem to like it either.
"For the time being yes." Splinter turns to Mikey who is eating during the talk. "Mikey. Make sure that you do not go out there alone. It shouldn't be forever. It is just a safety measure to protect you."
Mikey nods and swallows his mouthful. "I understand." He assures them. "I've seen it myself. I'm grateful you all would help protect me." He gains a hug from his brothers as Splinter watches with a smile.
They break apart to once again enjoy their breakfast.
Leo hopes that there won't be big fights if an arrogant alpha tries something. His eyes glancing to the others before he drops his gaze to his bowl of cereal.
