Murph and Date were angerly grumbling as Ben and Summer walked into the house. Hudie, Nema, Matayoshi, Leanne and Rand were present, but the others were out doing their own thing. "Hey, guys, what's up?" Ben asked.
Nema looked at them. "And Ben and Summer appear right on time!"
"What do you need us for?" Summer asked.
"Well for starts if you two could help Date and Murph calm down and quell their rage that'd be great." Yu said.
Ben groaned. "Okay, seriously, why do I always get stuck with the hard jobs around here?"
Matayoshi sighed. "Well to be perfectly honest I can't say I blame them for being angry this time given the situation."
Rand nodded. "Still, I would like them to calm down a little bit."
"Like I could calm down at a time like this!" Murph roared. "Those self-serving tourists just got me sooo mad. Even I erupted in anger!"
Date growled. "Honestly, we go through the trouble of helping them and they just…ARGH!"
Rand sighed. "I understand how you two feel, but taking it out on us isn't going to help anything, is it?" He waited for Ben and Summer to gather at the table before continuing. "Ben, Summer, this is what's going on. Remember how Kyoko reported yesterday that Faldera Volcano was acting strangely?"
"Sure do." Ben nodded. "I was there."
Summer gasped. "Ben, were you hurt?!"
"N-no Summer, I'm fine."
"Aww! She's all worried for you Ben!" Nema gushed. The two Rangers responding with a blushing glare.
Rand shook his head. "Yeah, anyway, we've been keeping watch and last night volcanic activity was confirmed. So Murph put out a call as a representative of the Ranger Union, for people to avoid landing on that island, but there was a group of tourists who wouldn't listen."
"In response to that I asked Date to go help him get them out of there." Matayoshi added. "But…"
Date banged the table. "Dang right, and do you know what those ungrateful idiots had the nerve to say?!"
Murph joined in. "They said things like, "I went to all the trouble of taking time to come see it"!"
"Wow." Summer muttered.
"So, we're dealing with a bunch of people as immature as Yu then." Erika said.
"Hey!"
"Don't lie, you also find this interesting."
"I do no-okay maybe a little."
"As of last night, the eruptions were small, but their intensity keeps increasing." Rand said. "And, strangely, the location of the eruptions is apparently moving around."
"Moving around?" Ben asked.
Biyomon folded his wings. "Which not only makes it hard to determine the source of these eruptions, but also means it's impossible to predict when or where the next one is going to hit."
Leanne nodded. "That's right. It's very dangerous because we can't pinpoint the location. These might be so-called fissure eruptions, where a crack appears in the ground and lava comes shooting out."
"Fissure Eruptions?" Calumon asked.
"But…Kyoko and I both looked at the records of Faldera Island, and there are no examples of these eruptions occurring in the past."
Monodramon growled. "This is bad. There's no telling what's safe on that island. Those humans could get killed if they stay there!"
Rand nodded. "Agreed. In any case, once Murph and Date cool down, I'm sure they'll leave to go rescue the tourists."
Murph groaned. "Of course, I'm going. I'm going, but those people…I don't think they're going to listen to what I have to say! Oh man. Just thinking about it fills me with rage!"
"They didn't have to be so mean, Makiko and Murph were just trying to help!" Lopmon added.
Date growled. "I swear just thinking of their smug faces makes me want to…!"
Nema shuddered and stepped back. "Murph and Date are showing indications that they will erupt again…"
Rand pointed at Ben and Summer. "So, I would like you two to protect the tourists that went to Faldera Island while suppressing their eruptions. You've been to that mountain before to protect Moltres, and I think you and Murph will work well together."
"If you say so." Ben replied.
Matayoshi turned to Hudie. "Ryuji, I want you to take your team and go along with them. There's no telling how dangerous that volcano is now so be careful."
Ryuji nodded. "Understood."
"Wow, never thought Hudie would be doing something like this." Chitose murmured. "Well, we'll do what we can."
"I'm a lot more intimidating than I look when I get angry!" Murph warned. "Can you calm me down without getting freaked out?"
"Can't be any harder than doing so for Date." Keisuke said.
The detective glared at him. "What was that?"
"Nothing!"
"I'm sure Pichu can help with that, right partner?" Ben asked.
Pichu strummed his ukulele. "Pichu!"
"Let's hurry to Fladera Island abord the Union!" Murph announced. "Date and I are going to give them a lecture they'll never forget!"
"Absolutely." Date nodded.
"I can understand you want to give them a piece of your minds, but our mission is to rescue, not lecture them." Ryuji said. "Remember that."
On the Union, Ben, Summer, the five members of Hudie, Date and Murph rode across the deep blue sea. Ukulele Pichu was playing music the whole way. Summer glanced at Date. "You seem more relaxed now."
"Yeah, the little guy's music helped cheer me up. Still, I can do without a certain someone's singing right now…"
Murph wasn't even listening. "Oh, the, sea, the deep blue sea. Its frothy brine is not just salty. The seaweed swaying in the waves made it taste oh so soupy."
Pichu growled in annoyance. "Pichu! Pichu!"
Murph turned around. "You're telling me this isn't the time to be singing?! This is how I calm my anger, so please understand."
Erika was covering her ears. "Please tell me the island is close."
Murph looked ahead. "It snuck up while we were talking. Look! Faldera Island is right over there!"
Yu sighed. "Oh great. I was this close to jumping overboard and swimming there."
Ben looked ahead as they approached. "Let's hope we find those tourists fast."
As they saw land, Summer pointed at a small crowd of people nearby. "Look! The tourists!"
"Huh. That was easier than I thought it would be." Yu said. As soon as The Union reached the dock, everyone ran over to the people.
KABOOOOM! A loud eruption was heard. Ben caught Summer when she stumbled back. "W-was that an eruption?!" Wormmon asked.
"That was way worse than the one yesterday!" Ben said.
"Good gravy, did you hear that?!" Keisuke asked.
"I *felt* that." Tentomon replied.
"Wow! That was really loud!" Murph shuddered.
"Pichuu!" Ben's Pokemon hid behind Staraptor.
One of the tourists gulped. "It's another eruption! And this one was in a different place!"
Another man was shaking. "We never should have come to such a dangerous island!"
"No kidding Sherlock!" Date growled.
"That's why we told you not to come!" Murph yelled.
The crowd turned to face them. "Hey, it's the guy from The Union and the detective! And they brought help! They've come to save us!"
"Of course, they have." A lady said. "Saving people is part of a Ranger's job. Same with police."
Date clutched her fist and glared at her. "Tell me how to do my job…!"
Summer shuddered. "Here comes another eruption."
Murph growled. "I can't take it anymore! I'm at the end of my rope…" He fumed for a bit before reaching his breaking point. "KABOOOOM!"
The tourists helped. "Whoa! This time that guy erupted!"
"Because you guys are way too selfish!"
"Yeah, we told you!" Date yelled. "We told you that it was too dangerous to stay here this morning! And what did you do? You idiots laughed at us! YOU ALL LAUGHED AT US for trying to stop you!"
"Yeah! I thought you would be crying, pleading for our help but nooo, in the end, you're…"
Ben stepped in front of him. "Murph, calm down."
Keisuke stepped in front of Date. "The mission Date, the mission!"
Summer glared at the tourists. "That being said, you were all warned. Why did you people not listen to them and come here? Seriously, what were you thinking?!"
"She's right, this isn't a game you bunch of twits! And seriously, is a simple "thank you" asking for much?" Chitose added. "If we were never sent here, all of you could have very well ended up-
"We'll listen to your lecture as much as you want later!" one of them said. "A member of our group is still back on the mountain!"
"Wh-what did you say?!" Murph asked.
Another man nodded. "He took some Pokemon onto the island, and he's taking a lot of time to evacuate…"
"That can't be good." Patamon said.
Ben sighed. "So much for this being easy, huh Yu? We'll handle him, you guys need to get to safety!"
"You may be professional rescuers, but even for you, it's too dangerous to go any further when you don't know when and where the eruptions will be."
"You ignore our warnings and expect us to take yours seriously?" Date asked.
"Detective Date, take a deep breath." Ryuji said. As she did so, he looked at the crowd. "Let us worry about him, you lot just worry about yourselves."
Murph nodded. "Don't tow away your chives!" There was a moment of awkward silence. "I mispronounced the important part."
"He means don't stow away your hives!" Armadillomon said.
Patamon groaned. "No! He means don't-Oh forget it, you people get the idea!"
"Right!" Date said. "Get on the ship and this time seriously, STAY AWAY FROM THE VOLCANO! We're going to go save the rest of your reckless group!"
"That would be a big help! Please save our friends!"
"We will, don't worry." Erika replied before giving a threatening glare. "And you lot for crying out loud try not to do anything else today a sane person would deem idiotic or I'm going to make you wish the eruptions got you. Savvy?"
All of the tourists shuddered and straightened up. "Y-yes ma'am!" They all ran for The Union.
The others were stunned by Erika's outburst, but Date flashed a smile. "I like this girl."
Ryuji squinted at his sister and murmured "I don't know where she gets that from."
"Well, Ben, Summer, you know what to do." Murph said.
"Right!" The Rangers and Murph posed. "Mission On!"
"Let's hurry." Ryuji said. "We need to save everyone who couldn't evacuate."
Ben looked at the Digimon in the party. "No telling what we'll be up against here. You might want to get your Digimon ready now." The Tamers nodded and took out their Digivices.
DIGIVOLUTION
"Tentomon Double Warp Digivolve to…HerculesKabuterimon!"
"Monodramon Double Warp Digivolve to…Justimon!"
"Armadillomon Digivolve to…Ankylomon!"
"Patamon Digivolve to…Angemon!"
"Otamamon Double Warp Digivolve to…MarineAngemon!"
DNA DIGIVOLUTION
"Ankylomon!"
"Angemon!"
"DNA Digivolve to…Shokoumon!"
"Lopmon Double Warp Digivolve to…Kerpymon!"
DIGIVOLUTION
"Shokoumon Digivolve to…Vikemon!"
"I better get ready too." Summer drew a Guardian Sign. "Go, Guardian Sign! Suicune, come forth!"
Ben sighed as Summer summoned her Pokemon. "I don't have any Guardian Signs for Water Types. Well, I at least have something to help fight Fire Type Pokemon. Go, Guardian Sign! Gravaler, come forth!" Two Pokemon were summoned to his side.
"Okay, let's move!" Murph lead the team up the mountain. They didn't get far before spotting trouble.
"Look! Up there!" Summer pointed to where a young lady was standing on the cliff above them. An angry Charmeleon approached from the front and back.
"Those Charmeleon are really agitated! We have to save that woman!" Murph exclaimed.
"Let's move boys!" Chitose ran ahead.
"He's certainly peppy about this." Ben murmured.
"Of course, he is, there's a girl involved." Erika replied rolling her eyes. "Wormmon!"
"Right!" Wormmon jumped into Erika and they became Hudiemon. They then flew up ahead. Just as one of the Charmeleon jumped at the lady, Hudiemon charged at it. "Flying Kick!" She punted it into the stone wall.
Vikemon then approached the one behind her getting it's attention. The woman gasped as she saw the others appear. "Thank you for coming to save me, Rangers!"
"Uh, we're here too…" Chitose murmured.
"And how many does that make at this point, I lost count." Yu grinned.
"Oh, shut up."
The woman looked at the Charmeleon. "These two were surprised by the eruptions, and it made them like this."
"We'll save you, so don't worry!" Murph said. "Please take care of it, guys!"
Ben and Summer launched their Stylers as the Charmeleon jumped at them. "Capture On!"
"Gravaler, Defense Curl!" Ben ordered. His Pokemon intercepted the two Charmeleon and blocked their attacks.
"Suicune, Whirlpool!" Summer's Pokemon summoned two whirlpools that swooped both Charmeleon up into the air. Once they were airborne, Ben and Summer captured them.
Once the Charmeleon were gone the young lady stepped forward. "Thank you, Rangers!"
"You're welcome!" Murph replied.
Hudiemon squinted at him. "And just what did you do?"
Murph ignored her. "By the way, are you the person who brought the Pokemon to this island?"
"That wasn't me, but I think you're talking about the Bidoof Guy."
"Bidoof Guy"?" Yu asked.
"He has Bidoof with him at all times, so that's what he's called."
"Okay, so, where is he?" Ryuji asked.
"The Bidoof Guy was chasing his Bidoof further up the mountain."
"That's terrible!" Murph gasped.
"We'll help him." Ben said. "You need to get off this mountain. There's a ship at the dock. Get there as fast as you can!"
"Okay! Please save the Bidoof Guy!" The woman ran off.
"Let's hurry." Date said. The others nodded.
A small person with white skin, blond hair, and a dressed in white with a staff baring a crystal shape. He was blocking the way of a panicking man. "Sir, it's far too dangerous to go any further!"
"B-but my poor Bidoof!"
"What's going on here?" Ben asked as his team approached.
The man turned around. "Hey, Rangers!"
"You're the Bidoof Guy, right?" Murph asked.
The man nodded. "My Bidoof were surprised by the eruption and ran away. There are four of them, and they are all adorable!"
"But that area up there is surrounded by pools of lava and angry Pokemon!" The other being said. "It's not safe to chase them!"
"We'll take care of them." Ryuji said. "You two stay here."
"But-
"Don't worry about us." Kerpymon said. "We've been through dangerous things before."
Murph nodded. "That's right! Just leave it to us. Don't move from this spot!"
"Th-that's what I'll do, then." The man replied.
"Justimon, Date, Kerpymon, we'll go up there." Ryuji said. "There are four of them, so we'll each go after one."
"Alright." Date nodded. She looked at the others. "We'll chase them down here, you guys wait and make sure they don't get too far."
"Sure." Yu replied.
"Be careful up there." Hudiemon said.
"Don't worry, I'm with them." Justimon said. "Alright, let's go!"
As they ran up the mountain Keisuke looked at the mage. "Hey…you're a Digimon, aren't you?"
"Yes. My name is Socerimon."
Yu scanned him. "Champion Level Vaccine Type. By offering prayers it can harbor holy power in its body and heal wounds."
Summer noticed that he was gripping his side. "Hey, you're hurt!"
"It's nothing too serious…"
"Sit down, you need medical attention!" Ben ordered. "MarineAngemon, can you heal him?"
"On it! Ocean's Love!"
Keisuke turned to the Bidoof guy as Yu's Digimon healed Socerimon. "What happened to him?"
"I don't know! He was here earlier trying to warn us to stay away due to the eruptions-
"And just like with me and Date you didn't listen, go figure!" Murph glared.
"Time and place Murph!" Ben glared.
-And when I chased my Bidoof up here he was slumped against the wall!"
Just then the first Bidoof ran towards them with Ryuji close behind. Then Justimon carried another down. Finally, Date and Kerpymon carried the last ones over to the others. "This is all of them, right?" Date asked.
The Bidoof Guy lovingly hugged his Pokemon. "Thank you! Thank you so much! If I had just listened to these people's warnings, then my Bidoof would never have been put in this scary situation…"
"You can lament your mistakes later." HerculesKabuterimon said. "For now, you and your Bidoof must head to the bottom of the island. The rest of you are already on the ship at the dock. Wait for us there. We'll follow behind once Socerimon is good enough to walk."
"Thank you for everything you've done!" The man turned around to leave.
MarineAngemon backed up from Socerimon. "There we go! Feel better?"
"Much better. Thank you."
"Alright, we should get you out of here too." Ben said.
"No. I can't leave yet." Socerimon said. "I may know how to stop the eruptions."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Chitose asked.
The Bidoof Guy gasped and turned back around. "Oh, that's right! About the eruptions, it seems like they are moving toward the peak of the mountain. I wonder if that is some kind of hint?"
"Moving?" Date asked.
"Oh, I see! So, the eruptions are climbing up the mountain then!" Murph said.
"How is that possible?" Summer asked before shaking her head. "Well anyway, you should hurry and go."
"Thank you for the information." Ben added. "Be careful on your way to the coast."
"Okay. Let's get off this mountain, my Bidoof."
Murph looked at the team. "How about that? Even eruptions enjoy a good hike up a mountain then. Now we've solved the big mystery, haven't we!" Everyone squinted at him. "…What's with the flabbergasted expressions?"
"That's not the case Murph." Hudiemon groaned.
"You think so?"
"She's right." Socerimon stood up. "The eruptions…they are caused by a creature that I encountered on this mountain."
"A creature?" Keisuke asked. "Was it a Pokemon or a Digimon?"
"I don't know. Whatever it is, it's insanely strong. I tried to fight it off to stop the eruptions but…"
"That's how you got hurt." Chitose said.
Summer gasped. "Eruption! Of course! That's also a move Pokemon can use! I bet a Pokemon was doing this!"
"Could this be the Pinchers or Team One World at work?" Ben asked. "Socerimon, did you see anyone with this creature?"
"No. It was alone."
KABOOOOM! Everyone was startled by another eruption. "Another one…" Vikemon said.
"And from the sound of it, it's close." MarineAngemon added.
"Th-that one felt really close. My knees are knocking…" Murph murmured.
Ben's Styler beeped. "That eruption apparently occurred directly ahead."
Socerimon looked ahead further up the mountain. "Is it going on another rampage? It must be stopped!"
"H-hey, guys?" Murph asked. "We evacuated all the tourists. Don't you not think this isn't a Mission Clear?"
"Pichu! Pichu!" Ben's Pokemon grumbled.
"Pichu's right, we can't leave things the way they are!" Keisuke said. "There are still other Pokemon that can get hurt by this thing!"
Date sighed. "Good grief, you sound just like Kyoko's brat assistants."
Socerimon turned towards the upper area. "I'm going. That creature…it looked like it was suffering. I want to help it. I won't force you to come along. But I can't just stand by as others get hurt."
Keisuke smiled. "You haven't changed."
"Pardon?"
"Uh, nothing. Anyway, I want to help too."
"Same here." Hudiemon nodded.
"Ben and I will go with you." Summer said. "It's a Rangers duty after all."
Murph gulped. "I-I'm not afraid. Okay, okay."
"We just need to find this creature, right?" Date asked.
As they went forward, Yu whispered to Keisuke. "Did you know that Digimon before…you know."
"Yeah, he saved me and the director of the hospital. Never thought I'd see him again in a situation like this."
Everyone went up the mountain, reaching the shack in the area Ben and the others first saw Arcadiamon in. Instead of the cursed Digimon, there was a red being on all fours with a silver metal skull. "It's him." Socerimon said. "That's the creature that caused the eruptions."
The creature let out a roar. KABOOOOM! Three explosions around it left pools of lava. It then walked away further up the volcano. "What was that?" Summer asked, looking at her Styler.
Murph turned to her. "Wasn't that a Heatran?"
"A Heatran?" Socerimon asked.
"We should have brought Kellyn and Kate. They faced on before. It's a very rare species of Pokemon."
Summer nodded. "Yup. That was Heatran alright. Fire/Steel Type. It dwells in volcanic caves, its blood boils like magma and it's cross shaped feet can dig through the ground and climb walls. But what was that move it just used? Could it be…Eruption?"
"No doubt about it." Justimon said. "That eruption was right where it stood. Socerimon was right."
Ben's Styler spoke again. "Usually, Heatran cannot use the move Eruption."
Murph nodded. "Uh huh. That's right, that's right. Of course, I knew that. Which…means what, exactly?"
"That Heatran somehow learned a move it shouldn't know." Ben said. "Anyway, it didn't seem like it was being controlled, so why is it doing this?"
"For now, we best pursue Heatran." HerculesKabuterimon said.
KABOOOOM! Everyone struggled to regain their balance as another eruption hit. "Pichu!" Pichu squeaked.
"Yes. We must hurry!" Socerimon nodded.
"He went into the volcano." Ben said. "Be careful everyone."
"Who knows how bad the eruptions can get in there." Ryuji said. "We better stop it before somebody gets hurt."
The team marched into the hottest area of the volcano. Socerimon starting panting. "It's even hotter in here then I was expecting…"
"Well, you are wearing heavy looking cloths there." Yu replied.
"Maybe you should stay back." Ben said. "It's only going to be hotter once we find Heatran."
"No. If Heatran is suffering I wish to help it. I can keep going."
"He's just like those tourists." Date groaned. "Nobody ever listens."
"Maybe." Ryuji said. "But there is one major difference."
"Huh?"
"Those idiots ignored you out of curiosity and ignorance, Socerimon here is well aware of the danger, but is pushing on because he wants to help someone. Though while the motive is different, he is indeed being reckless…just like us."
"Like us?"
Ben chuckled. "Yeah, those tourists did also try to warn us that this would be dangerous. But here we are."
Murph sighed. "Yeah, if you think about it, we are kinda hypocrites, aren't we?"
"Well, all we can do now is push ahead." Summer said as they continued. Soon Heatran was once again in their sights.
"We caught up with Heatran!" Murph exclaimed.
"Pichu!" Ben's Pokemon nodded.
"Alright, let's see if we can find out why it's doing this." Ben said. They hurried over to the Pokemon. "Heatran, calm down! It looks like you are using the move Eruption, but you usually can't use that move!"
"Heatran, please stop using that dangerous technique!" Socerimon pleaded. "If you don't someone's bound to get hurt!"
"Grraaah!" Heatran howled and more explosions emerged around the team leaving lava pools.
"Whooooa!" Murph yelled. Ryuji grabbed Date's arm as she started to lose balance.
Hudiemon looked at Heatran's eyes. It looked panicked. She watched it turn around and walk into the nearby cave. As things settled down, everyone looked up. "Hey! Where did it go?" Murph asked.
"It went into that cave." Hudiemon replied. "Keisuke, Ryuji, you noticed too, right?"
Keisuke nodded. "Yeah. It didn't actively attack us. It just left. Like that was a warning shot or something."
"We don't know why Heatran is going to the top of the mountain, either." Murph added.
"And it looked like it was scared of us." Ryuji said.
"Maybe not us." Hudiemon replied. "Maybe it didn't want us to get hurt. I don't think it's intentionally using Eruption."
Ben's Styler spoke. "Confirmed. Apparently, Heatran learned the move Eruption through some coincidence, but it cannot control it."
"Oh, I see. So that's what's going on!" Murph said. "It's not using the move Eruption because it wants to. The move is just going off on its own."
"It is one of the most powerful Fire Type moves after all." Ben said. "Not to mention, Heatran isn't supposed to know it. It makes sense that it lost control."
"Maybe that's why it's heading for the top of the mountain!" MarineAngemon exclaimed. "To reduce the amount of damage it does!"
"Perhaps that's it's intent." Summer said. "But if too many Eruptions occur at the top of the mountain, it could cause a magma overflow that will envelop this entire island!"
"Not good." Yu growled. "It that happens all the Pokemon here…"
"No…we have to do something!" Socerimon said.
"But what?" HerculesKabuterimon asked. "If we approach Heatran, we may frighten it again, making the eruptions even worse!"
"Guys, I think I have an idea." Hudiemon said. "I from what I just looked up; Eruption is a move that's power is based on the condition of the Pokemon using it. If the Pokemon is healthy and in prime condition it'll be at it's strongest. That's why these Eruptions are so big and hard for Heatran to control. But if the Pokemon is weakened it's power will drop."
"So, you think if we can weaken Heatran, it's Eruption's won't be as strong?" Date asked. "And it might be able to control them?"
"That's a good idea. Even if it still can't control it, that'll at least make it easier for Ben and Summer to capture it with their Stylers." Chitose said. "That should claim it down."
"Then that's what we'll do." Ryuji said. "Ben, Summer, we'll weaken Heatran for you. Once we make an opening, you two use your Stylers and tame it."
"Alright. Let's hurry after Heatran." Ben led the group into the cave. "Up ahead is the hural blocking off the peak of the mountain. We'll corner it there."
"But that area doesn't have much room to fight on." Ryuji said.
"Huh? Hey, guys, look at that!" Yu pointed right in front of the mural. A giant hole was there. "It looks like Heatran burrowed its way under the mural."
"Huh…I'm surprised the Pinchers never thought of that." Ben said. "Well, we'll have an easier time getting through." He drew Entei's Guardian Sign on the mural and it vanished.
Up at the top of the mountain, standing where Moltres slept, Heatran stood panting heavily. "There you are." Summer said.
"Heatran, do not panic!" Socerimon said. "We have come to help!"
"Nobody does everything right on their first try." Murph said. "For now, just calm down!"
"Grrraaaah!" Heatran roared and more explosions of lava rose around them.
"Eeek!"
"If this keeps up this whole island will be covered in lava!" Kerpymon said. "We need to act fast!"
Murph turned to the Rangers. "Ben! Summer! Capture Heatran, and do it quick! Hurry!"
Justimon got into a battle stance. "Forgive us Heatran, but we have no choice!"
The Pokemon unleashed another Eruption that forced everyone to back up. "We'll never get close enough to attack at this rate!" Vikemon growled.
"Suicune, Rain Dance!" Summer's Pokemon howled and it started to rain. "There, that should help!"
Keisuke nodded. "Thanks Summer! Okay, we just need to weaken it a little!"
HerculesKabuterimon flew over him with his horn glowing. "Giga Blaster!" He fired at Heatran, hitting it right in the metal skull, but it withstood the attack. "He's tough…"
"Justice Kick!"
"Flying Kick!" Hudiemon and Justimon charged side by side each ramming a foot into the skull, but the Heatran pushed them back into the air.
"Artic Blizzard!" Vikemon blew Icey wind at it, but that did nothing to bother the Steel/Fire Type. He threw the Morning Star at it, but the Pokemon jumped away and let lose another Eruption.
"Guys, be careful!" Hudiemon instructed. "If it uses too many more of these Eruptions, this island is done for!"
"Yeah! And us along with it!" Date growled. "We need to pin it down!"
"I'm on it!" Kerpymon flew over and slammed his hands over Hetran's head pushing it down. "…YOUCH!" Kerpymon immediately let it go and started blowing at his hands.
"Hey, are you alright?!" Date asked.
"That thing's hotter than an active stove!"
"X-Heal!" Socerimon held up his staff and Kerpymon's hands glowed. "How's that?"
"Better, thanks."
"So physical attacks are a bad idea." Ryuji said. "We'll have to attack from a distance."
"Okay, that works, because I don't want to go anywhere near that thing!" MarineAngemon said. "Besides…attacking from a distance is my specialty! Ocean Wave!" He shot a torrent of water towards Heatran. The Pokemon summoned another burst of magma in front of it. The collision made a wall of stone that Heatran rammed with its skull, shattering it to pieces that flew at the tamers.
HerculesKabuterimon turned to them. "Guys, get down!"
"Crystal Cloud!" Socerimon shot blue shards from his staff that intercepted the debris. "Is everyone alright?"
"Thanks, Socerimon." Keisuke said.
"We need to slow it down somehow." Ryuji said.
"I'm on it!" Hudiemon flew towards Heatran, dodging burst of magma rising under her. Once she got right in front of it her eyes glowed. "Infinity Dream!" Heatran winced as it went off right in its face. "Now guys!"
"Giga Blaster!"
"Heaven's Thunder!"
"Artic Blizzard!"
"Hydro Water!" Four attacks hit the Heatran at once. It screamed before jumping at its opponents, when Justimon rammed his fist into it's head from above, slamming it to the ground. When it got up it roared and more Eruptions came, but they were all much, much smaller then the ones it previously created.
"It's working!" Chitose said. "Ben, Summer, now's your chance!"
The Rangers launched their Stylers. "Capture on!" They looped repeatedly around Heatran and it's movement's slowed. It glared and shot a fireball at them.
"Ben, Summer, look out!" Hudiemon yelled.
"Summer, get back!" Ben stepped in front of his partner and took out the Weaver of Light. He batted it against the oncoming fireball, slicing it in half. He deflected another two shot at him and thrusted the staff into one more.
"Whoa! Look at him go!" Chitose said.
"Impressive technique." Socerimon added.
Once the fireballs stopped coming Ben and Summer resumed their capture. Heatran stood still. It looked less panicked. The Eruptions stopped. Ben's Styler spoke up. "Heatran's Eruption has subsided."
"Thank goodness." Summer breathed.
Murph smiled. "All right. All's well that ends well."
"Thank you." Socerimon said. "All of you. You saved the lives on this island."
"Just doing our job." Ben smiled. "Thanks for backing us up Socerimon."
Back aboard The Union the team and the tourists they rescued sailed across the seat. Heatran stood behind the heroes with Socerimon tending to it. "It's okay Heatran." He said petting it's metal head. "Nobody here blames you."
Murph looked at the tourists. Date was with him. "Can I have everyone's attention?"
"We have something we'd like to say." Date said.
Keisuke shuddered from behind them. "Here it comes."
One of the tourists gulped. "They're going to yell at us again, aren't they?"
One of the men sighed. "Well, I did promise them we'd listen to the lecture as much as they want…"
A woman sighed. "Let's face it, we deserve it. Not only did we brush off their attempt to warm us, but we were also rather rude when they came to the rescue dispute how we acted."
"We"?" One of them glared at her. "You're the one who was all "Of course came, saving people is just part of the Rangers and police's job"!"
"W-well I suppose…Look, it just slipped out, okay?!"
"That's enough from the both of you!" The Bidoof guy scolded. "We all chose to come here dispute being warned of the obvious danger, and now we shall all face the consequences of our actions together!" He looked at Date and Murph. "Go ahead. We're all listening."
Date nodded. "Alright then…"
Murph cleared his throat. "Everyone! The eruptions have stopped. Our eruptions, too!"
Date nodded. "We're going to take all of you to Tilt Village. But you guys need to think about what happened here today and how you acted in a dangerous situation. And…I'm going to think about how I acted towards you out of spite in an urgent situation."
Everyone looked at them in surprise. "Detective Date…!" Keisuke gasped.
Murph nodded. "Right. I want you to think about all you've done while you enjoy the sea breeze. I will also reflect on keeping my cool."
The crowd was surprised to hear that. But they all solemnly looked down. "I don't know how to thank the Rangers, the detective, or any of these young people enough." The eldest of them said.
Another man nodded. "I finally got through my head how foolish we'd been when I saw all of you bravely heading into that dangerous place."
A lady sighed. "I feel really bad that I took it for granted that you would help us, because saving people is a Ranger's duty."
The Bidoof guy looked at Socerimon. "That guy also got hurt because we ignored him too."
"No." Socerimon replied. "Even if you did all listen to me and left the island I still would have gone after Heatran. In that regard, I'm not so different from you, am I?"
Murph smiled. "We're not on a boat ride, we're on a gilt trip huh? Get it?" Everyone stared at Murph awkwardly. Date groaned, Keisuke face-palmed and Ben started banging his head against the ship's mast. "Aww…now I feel guilty about that joke…"
Summer sat on a barrel and sighed. "This is gonna be a loooong trip back…"
Chitose looked at Yu. "Still thinking of swimming there?"
"Let's just say I'm weighing my options."
By the time the team returned to Rand's house, everyone from the professor to the Cyber Sleuths to the Rangers were all inside waiting for them. "Welcome back everyone." Kyoko smiled.
Takumi looked at Socerimon as he walked in. "Hey, Ami, isn't that Digimon…?"
Ami looked at him as well. "Yeah…"
"Good work, all of you!" Rand smiled. "Murph contacted me by wireless and I just went over the report with everyone here."
"To think there was a Heatran here in Oblivia…" Kate murmured.
"Speaking of, where is it now?" Kellyn asked.
"Still on The Union." Chitose replied.
"So, it was a Heatran that caused that eruption yesterday." Palmon said. "And all the others…"
"Thank goodness the tourists made it out in one piece." Yuugo added.
"It looks like Murph and Date's rage has also cooled off." Leanne added.
Nokia scowled. "Honestly, I kinda wished I was there to see you two erupt on those ungrateful jerks."
"I wish I could have shown you Heatran's Eruption rather than mine!" Murph grinned. "That KABOOM! Was really an amazing thing!"
Everyone gathered around the table. "Still, I'm quite curious as to how Heatran managed to learn Eruption in the first place." Professor Hastings said.
Rand nodded. "It's strange…How did Heatran learn that move?"
Summer folded her arms. "I heard in Ranger School that in very rare cases there are Pokemon that can use a move they usually can't but still…"
Ben glanced at her. "Actually Summer, when you think about it, this isn't the first instance of that we've seen. Back when we traveled to the past and were in the Dark Temple one of Sabios' men had a Salamance that he forced to learn Draco Meteor."
"That's right…and that Vespiquen they had knew Tailwind."
"Also, it and those Combee had another move they shouldn't have learned." Guilmon asked.
"What move was that?" Kate asked.
"Please don't ask." Summer, Yuuko and Fei sighed, not wanting to think about the time they were ensnared in String Shot and humiliated.
"Well, anyway, it is still a very rare occurrence." Rythmi said.
Leanne nodded. "That's true. There's probably some reason for it, but who knows what it is?"
Everyone went quiet as they pondered. Murph was the first to speak up. "I wounder if it's because it just looks super cool when it happens!"
"Hee, hee. That's a pretty Murph-ish answer." Solana teased.
"I'll say." Keith chuckled.
"You're flattering me!" Murph looked at Pichu. "Why, I bet even Pichu would want to use Eruption if it could, wouldn't you?"
Pichu breathed in and then burst with electricity. "PICCHUUUM!"
"That was supposed to be KABOOM, right! Phew. You really surprised me. I don't think Pichu and I are meant to erupt."
Pichu wacked Murph's leg with the ukulele. "I don't think he's too happy to be compared to you, Murph." Ben said.
"What are you so angry about, Pichu? You should be happy to be lumped in with me!"
"Riiiiight, moving on, anyone else have any thoughts?" Fei asked.
"I think this is the reason Heatran learned how to use the move Eruption." Rand said. "I think it had always wanted to learn. Awake or asleep, that's all it thought about… Then, that wish was finally granted. I think someone said that someday your dreams will come true."
"Dear, you are quite the romantic, for such a gruff-looking guy." Leanne smirked.
"That's why you fell in love with him, right, mom?" Nema teased. Everyone started laughing.
"E-enough of that." Rand muttered. "Why don't you tell us what you think, Nema?"
"Yeah, you're the scientist here." Ami smiled. "What's your take on it?"
Nema put a hand on her chin. "Well, what I think is…I think the heat energy of all of Fladera Volcano's lava stimulated the cells in Heatran's body which caused exponential changes to certain cells, and those new cells that had a new function created a new organ…"
"Why do I feel like we're going to be here for a while?" Kate whispered.
An unspecific, but undoubtedly extended period of time later…
"…Stated simply, I think that's what happened."
"I don't know if "simply" is the word I'd use, but that is a fascinating theory." Kyoko replied.
"I agree." Erika replied.
"Very well put." Professor Hastings smiled.
Nema grinned. "Hey, Murph, Nokia, what do you think of my hypothesis?"
Everyone looked at Murph and Nokia. They were asleep at the table. "Zzzzz…Five more minutes please…" Nokia murmured.
"Hmmm. Smack, smack…I'm already stuffed!" Murph snored.
"Did they fall asleep?" Chitose asked.
"So did Keith." Kellyn said pointing at is friend/rival.
"And Keisuke." Tentomon added. His partner was asleep on the floor.
"Of course, he did." Erika murmured.
Nema growled. "KABOOOOM!" Everyone was startled by her shout.
Nokia screamed. "I'm not asleep! I know the answer! I did my homework! …Wait, not in class, whoops."
Keisuke was startled awake too. "What happened?! Please tell me Erika and Wormmon didn't draw on me again."
Keith yelped and fell to the floor. "WHAAAAA! Torkoal! Camerupt! Torkal ridding Camerupt!" Kate laughed at his startled reaction.
Murph gasped. "Whoa! Another eruption! Where, where, where?"
Rand smirked. "That eruption was Mt. Nema. It's not that uncommon."
"The only thing louder than that, is Murph's snoring." Ben joked. Summer giggled.
"Huh? I snore?" Murph asked.
"All the time." Solana replied.
"You can hear it throughout the Ranger Union sometimes." Kate teased. Lunick and Keith laughed.
Yuuko sighed. "If you guys are done making fun of Murph-
"Never!" Kate, Summer, Ben, Lunick, and Keith dramatically interrupted.
-There's a giant eruption causing elephant in the room! Rand, what should we do with that Heatran? We stopped its Eruption for now, but won't it lose control again?"
"That does seem likely." Socerimon replied.
"Couldn't we get Ben and Summer to stay with Heatran so they can capture it when and if it happens again?" Wormmon asked.
"Then Heatran would have a Ranger dedicated to it." Murph replied.
"Sorry guys, Summer and I already have Partner Pokemon." Ben said.
"I got a better idea." Kellyn said. "Let's just look for a Pokemon Trainer from another region that can take care of Heatran and maybe help it learn to control it's Eruption."
Professor Hastings smiled. "An excellent idea! Misery-
"Rythmi." The Operator replied.
-Contact Ranger Union and have them look for a tough Trainer with the heart and patience for troubled Pokemon with power they shouldn't have."
"Yes, I think that's the best thing we can do for Heatran." Socerimon said.
"This is the third time we've done this, isn't it?" Takumi asked. "Good thing Nema found a way to fix the Wireless Tower."
"So, Socerimon, what do you plan to do now?" Tentomon asked.
"Well, rumors are going around that you guys will be able to send us Digimon home eventually, right?"
"That is correct." Kyoko replied. "We will be sending everyone home at the end of the month."
"In the meantime, I want to help as many people as I can. I hear the doctor that previously helped people in this island went rouge and then disappeared. So I was hoping I could take his place."
"Huh. I never even thought about that." Arata said. "With old Edward gone, this region doesn't have a doctor."
"I see. Are you sure about this Socerimon?" Ami asked.
"Yes. Many humans have been getting hurt because of us Digimon."
"That applies both ways." Ryuji said.
"All the more reason for us to try to end conflict between us. If I can at least help a few of them, I'll feel like I did my part to make things better."
Keisuke smiled. "Socerimon…you're a good guy."
"You flatter me. Actually…have I met you somewhere before? You look familiar."
"…Maybe. I don't know…"
"So, Socerimon, where are you going next?" Takumi asked.
"Well, I've been to most of the islands of this region…But not Sophian Island. I hear it's the biggest of the islands with a town filled with residents."
"If you want, Terriermon and I can give you a ride."
"I would appreciate that, but I don't wish to impose."
"Please, it's the least I can do considering…"
"Is something wrong?"
Takumi had a troubled look on his face. "Never mind. Anyway, let's go. I'll be back soon guys."
"Okay." Keisuke waved. "Thanks again for your help Socerimon."
As Takumi and Ami went outside, Socerimon stopped at the door and bowed. "It is I who must thank you. Best of luck with your future endeavors." He then left.
"Well, that works." Professor Hastings said. "But I suppose when he goes back to the Digital World, we'll need a new doctor here in Oblivia."
"I'll ask Ranger Union after I tell them about Heatran." Rythmi replied.
"Hey, wait a second!" Murph said. "Before we contact the Ranger Union, there's one thing we have to take care of!"
Rand laughed. "Of course. I haven't forgotten. Okay, guys…Mission Clear!"
Ben, Summer and Murph posed triumphantly.
And there's our final Wi-Fi quest. Still a few more chapters to go before the arc it done.
