Ellie Bishop: No kidding on Clint. I thought so to.
Acathla's Dimension
Angel and T'Challa appeared on a hilltop, their Quantum suits vanishing almost instantly. T'Challa looked around, horror dawning on his face as Angel looked around grimly. This was the place alright.
The sky was a sinister red-orange color that still haunted Angel's nightmares sometimes. And on the ground below, there were demons that resembled Orcs from Lord of the Rings, using whips on slaves.
"By Bast," T'Challa said lowly, horrified.
"We need to keep moving," Angel told him.
"Those slaves-" T'Challa started.
"Are the lucky ones. They have a hard day's work, they'll need some rest, but they'll live. Trust me, you don't want to see the unlucky ones," Angel said with a dark look in his eyes.
Angel had been one of the unlucky ones, T'Challa realized. Suddenly, his reaction to this place made much more sense.
"We need to find the stone. Any traces of Gamma radiation?" Angel asked, bringing T'Challa out of his thoughts.
T'Challa pulls out the gamma radiation detector and activated it. After a moment, it determined a source.
"It's twenty miles in that direction," T'Challa said, pointing in the direction and Angel sighed.
"I was afraid of that. That'll take us to Acathla's castle. I hope the others are having more luck than we are," Angel grumbled.
Nameless Dimension
Spike, Lindsey and Sam appeared on a grassy plane, their Quantum Suits vanishing as they looked around.
"Huh, looks like a dump," Lindsey noted but was ignored.
"Spike, do you smell anything?" Sam asked and Spike sniffed the air, trying to find anything that resembled blood.
"No. Red was right, there's nothing here," Spike said after a moment.
"The Senior Partners wouldn't leave the stop unguarded," Lindsey protested.
"Which means we need to be extra careful," Sam said, using the Gamma radiation detector to track the stone. "The stone is about six clicks south of here."
"Then let's get it and get out of here," Spike muttered.
There was just something about this place that made Spike uneasy. Which sad a lot, considering everything he had seen.
As the trio began heading in the direction of the stone, none of them noticed a figure in the distance, watching them as it bared its mouth.
K'un-Lun
"I wish Willow had told us it was so cold here," Dawn mentioned, wrapping her arms around herself as she, Peter and Hope moved up the mountains. "Why aren't you two cold?"
"Ventilation system in the suit," Hope said, her voice slightly muffled by her helmet.
"I just haven't been cold since I got my powers. Must be a Spider thing," Peter mused.
Conversation stops as they reached the top of the mountain. On the other side, several miles away on another mountain was a city.
"That's where the stone is?" Peter asked and Hope nodded.
"According to this Gamma radiation detector," Hope said as she looked down at it.
"That's a mouthful. If we live through this, we really need to come up with a better name for that," Dawn mused.
"Who are you trying to kid. We're not making it out of this," Hope said grimly.
"So let's get the stone and get back before we die," Peter said. "Anyone have a plan?"
"Yeah. But you two need to listen very carefully," Hope told them.
Quor'toth
Connor stood on a hilltop, looking out at the landscape darkly. It was exactly as he remembered.
The landscape was of a land that seemed deprived of water, save the green pools of liquid along its borders. The trees were leafless and seemed ready to fall over at the slightest damage. And the sky was a dark, purple color.
"Connor? You okay?" Willow asked from where she stood next to him and Connor shook his head.
"Yeah. Yeah, just…" Connor said, not having the words to describe it.
But Willow understood. If she were forced to go back to Sunnydale after everything that had happened, well, she can't say she would have reacted any differently. A wistfulness mixed with hatred for the painful memories it reminded her of.
"Never mind," Connor said dismissively, pulling out the Gamma Radiation detector. "The stone is about ten miles from this location. We better get a move on. Trust me, you don't wanna stay in one spot for too long here."
Erimos
"I guess it wasn't named 'Desert' for nothing," Faith muttered as she, Bucky and Scott looked around the seemingly endless desert.
"The stone has to be here somewhere. Scott, any Gamma radiation on that thing?" Bucky asked as he looked at Scott, who was using the detector.
"Yeah, about a half hour's walk that way," Scott said as he pointed to the left of them.
"Great. Let's just hope we don't run into those lizard things Red was talking about," Faith muttered as the trio started walking.
Glory's Dimension
Upon arriving in Glory's dimension, Wanda, Groot and even Nebula were taken back in horror at what greeted them.
The sky was blood red and the landscape seemed to be that of a wasteland. The skeletal remains of demons littered the ground and they saw some demon-bird hybrids feasting on the corpses of some dead animals. And overall, the dimension just gave off a feeling of dread.
And Wanda had a feeling this was only scratching the surface.
"I am Groot," Groot said lowly.
"I don't like this place either. So let's find the stone. Nebula, any readings?" Wanda asked as she looked over at the robotic woman.
"The stone is ten miles west of here," Nebula said after checking the Gamma radiation detector.
"Then let's get moving. The sooner we get the stone, the sooner we can get out of here," Wanda said as she looked at the landscape in disgust.
Avengers Compound
In the workshop, Bruce and Fred were working on assembling a replica of Thanos's Infinity Gauntlet with some of Tony's old gear.
"Say what you will about Tony Stark, the man was a genius," Fred said impressed despite herself as she examined the nanotech. "I never even thought about nanotech."
"When it comes to technology, Tony was second only to Wakanda," Bruce noted.
Lorne, who'd been sitting in a chair, observing, finally spoke up.
"Uh, Dr. Banner, you okay? You just, you give off this vibe like there's something wrong," Lorne noted and Bruce was silent for a moment.
"I just feel…I feel helpless," Bruce admitted. "I should be out there with them, helping. But because I can't get Hulk to come out, I'm stuck here, working on this. And I know its important work; I know it'll help us bring everyone back. But I just…"
"You feel like you're letting everyone down," Fred realized and Bruce nodded.
"Hulk's been causing me problems for years, now he's causing my friends problems," Bruce said angrily.
"You ever think that's your problem?" Lorne asked and Bruce looked over at him in confusion. "You treat Hulk like a disease, like a tool. You use him when you need him and then keep him locked away because you're afraid of him. But Hulk's not a tool; he's a person with thoughts and feelings. Maybe the problem isn't the Hulk. Maybe the problem is how you treat him. You wanna fix this; you need to fix that first."
Bruce frowned, looking away with a thoughtful look on his face. He didn't like it, but, and it really pained him to admit this, Lorne might have a point there. He had a lot to think about. But first, he had work to do.
Acathla's dimension
Angel and T'Challa had been walking for days. T'Challa, although worried about getting back in time, was assured by Angel that time passed differently here. And now they stood over a cliff, looking at Acathla's castle.
Angel was beginning to wonder if JRR Tolkien hadn't had some knowledge of other dimensions, because the description of Mordor seemed pretty accurate to Acathla's castle. He'd been too busy being tortured into insanity last time to really notice.
"You're sure the stone is inside there?" Angel asked T'Challa, who nodded.
"The signal is strongest here," T'Challa said, looking down at the radiation detector and Angel sighed.
"I was afraid of that. Okay, if we wanna get inside without being detected, you have to do exactly as I say," Angel told him seriously.
Quor'toth
Connor and Willow hiked through the terrain, Connor beginning to recognize some areas.
"It should be around here somewhere," Connor called back to Willow as he looked at the radiation detector.
"It is. I can feel it," Willow said certainly.
Before Connor could respond, his hair stood on end. Nearby, there was a pool of green liquid. Suddenly, it exploded as something rose out it. Connor and Willow instinctively jumped back, Connor bringing up his sword as they stared at their new adversary.
It was a large, snake like creature. It towered over them easily, at least twenty to twenty five feet long. It had green, smooth scales and yellow eyes that stared down at them. There was a large scar under one eye, like someone had tried to carve it out. It opened its mouth to reveal a large set of teeth, like sharks.
It gave a sound that was a mix of a hiss and a growl. Willow turned to Connor to ask if he knew what it was but the words died on her lips. Connor stared up at the creature, in a state of shock. It wasn't fear, it was…recognition. He knew this creature, Willow realized.
Before Willow could ponder this further, the creature lunged for them, its mouth open wide. Connor seemed to snap out of his trance and he jumped wide as Willow rushed back. Chanting under her breath, Willow held out an arm and the creature was thrown back, the top half of its body crashing on the ground with a loud thud. As it stood back up, barring its teeth, Willow saw it: a few feet from the pool, in what was clearly a nest lay the glowing blue stone. The Space Stone.
"Connor," Willow said and he followed her gaze.
"I see it," Connor said, resigned but determined. "You get the stone. I'll handle him."
"You sure?" Willow asked uncertainly, seeing he had history with this creature.
"Just go Willow," Connor snapped in a way that was so Angel she couldn't help but listen.
Connor made the first move, rushing towards the creature, raising his sword. The creature gave a snarl as it lunged for him, Connor dodging the strikes as if he'd done it all his life. Connor then jumped onto the creature's back, managing to stay on despite the creature's attempts to throw him off.
By this time, Willow had managed to get over to the nest. Using her powers, she levitated the Space Stone into her hand, just to be on the safe side. She'd read the reports on the Tesseract after all.
Seeing this, the creature snarled and Connor knew he had to act fast. Jumping up onto the creatures head, Connor roared before driving his sword through the creature's head and into its brain. It let out an agonized wail as Connor yanked the sword out. It began to sway and Connor jumped away, doing a somersault as the creature fell to the ground with a loud thud. Connor landed safely on the ground, looking at the creature's body with unshed tears in his eye.
Willow approached him, holding the Space Stone as she looked over at the creature before looking at Connor.
"I called him Bah," Connor said after a moment, answering her unasked question. "I met him when I was nine, when Holtz left me alone for a week. He frightened me but he didn't seem dangerous, more curious. We began to train together; I would dodge his teeth and work on my speed. In return, I would give him any dead demons I found or killed. I guess you could say we became friends.
"Holtz didn't like that. He used one of his traps to torture Bah, telling me demons weren't my friends, they were to be killed. Bah never came near me again and I never came back to his hole," Connor finished as he stared at Bah sadly.
"I'm sorry Connor," Willow said gently, her heart breaking for him.
"It is what it is. We have the stone, let's get out of here," Connor said stiffly. "The sounds of the fighting should have alerted more demons."
Willow nodded, knowing he was right. But still, she made a mental note to talk to Angel about this as their Quantum Suits appeared around them before they vanished.
Definitely not my best work I know, but I do hope you guys enjoyed it anyway. Next chapter will be better.
