Desert Storm

Chapter one- The Green Tide Arrives

Commander Jax was used to many sights but the scene before him was unheard of. Before him, all manner of uniformed troopers and Battle Droids were working together to establish new armaments factories as well as new droid factories, localised cloning facilities and recruitment offices in preparation for an scenario that would've been unheard of a few months ago. His garrison of clone troopers encountered troops from the future, the past and from alternative dimensions to his own. His counterparts from the alternate clone army were known as X1 and X2, who were clearly not clones of Jango Fett, and this was before they saw a number of white clad armoured soldiers who wore similarly styled armour to them.

Weeks earlier, they found that many different powers had risen and fallen over decades and many different dimensions as dimensions and time periods merged into one. An unexpected power known as the WSF then approached them and explained that they were all in a new reality different from their own. The WSF and their allies were fighting against a powerful empire called Outer Heaven and the WSF wanted their governments to unite against them, warning of the danger they posed. Subsequently, Loyalists, Separatists, Imperials, Rebels and other factions united in a tense alliance and attacked Outer Heaven.

Then Outer Heaven attacked Coruscant in retaliation for the defeat inflicted by Republic, Separatist, Imperial and New Republic governments as well as Rebel, Resistance and First Order groups. A massive struggle began as the WSF began shoring up their new allies and also managed to convince their existing allies to send help as well. The former worlds' garrisons, now continents, began building up defences with WSF and allied support.

Commander Jax, X1 and X2 along with their forces and some of their new allies were stationed at Tatooine when the Greenskins came their way, still attempting to fortify themselves.

"Jax!" X2 called as he walked up to Jax.

"X2, has X1 received any reports from his scouts?" Jax asked as he welcomed X2 into his command building.

"Nothing yet. I actually just came to see if your scouts have seen anything?" X2 replied, wiping the sweat off his forehead.

"Not yet. Some of them are yet to call in and give their reports any minute. I've also sent some of my platoons and companies to the coast to try and slow down any landings that this Outer Heaven will try." Jax replied officiously.

"That's a good idea, Commander Jax. I'm surprised that you are not a higher rank. You have all the makings of a good general." A rasping voice from behind them said. Jax and X2 turned to see the leading WSF general on Tatooine walking up to them.

"Ah, General Wilkinson, to what do I owe this visit?" Jax asked, offering the General a drink of water, which was taken with much gratitude.

"As I think was explained weeks ago, because you two are pulled from two different dimensions and from across many points in time as well, the reality merge made it so the area we're defending is multiplied ten fold at least, if not more. My main point being I've made a call for reinforcements. I would recommend holding the port cities with as much strength as possible. Outer Heaven cannot be allowed to use them any time soon." General Wilkinson advised the pair.

Jax and X2 nodded. Due to the WSF's experience in fighting Outer Heaven, General Wilkinson was made overall commander of the various forces at Tatooine. He worked well with all of the commanders on the continent that had been the planet of Tatooine and saw his role as providing diplomatic coordination. Jax and X2 felt that as he was the overall commander, he should be more direct and provide more instructions rather than leave everything to the local commanders initiative.

"I believe that those Imperial soldiers and the droids are holding the cities. I believe that the Rebels and Resistance soldiers are assisting them." X2 reported.

"And the First Order?" General Wilkinson.

"Forming a reserve. They think they'll be able to blunt any inland advance by Outer Heaven." X2 explained, pointing at a number of grid references where he knew the First Order forces were assembling.

"Too few and too spread out. At best, the way they're planning to defend this place, they'll be a speed bump." Wilkinson said almost analytically.

"What of your forces, General? Where are they and what are they doing?" Jax asked.

"Half of them are moving forward to the western side of the continent and the other half are building defences around the south-eastern corner of the continent and fortifying the ports there as well. I've also got an detachment of infiltrators ready to go into action at a moment's notice." Wilkinson explained.

They looked at the map and it made for grim reading. A landing by Outer Heaven forces seemed unlikely to be turned away at the coast and the combined allied forces were very thinly stretched out. The only real chance of defeating any invasion was to concentrate at the ports and on a series of defensive lines in the south-east while striking at vulnerable units with mobile forces.

Several hours later, the worst happened. Jax, X2 and Wilkinson were joined by X1 at Jax's headquarters when radio reports began arriving.

"Commander Jax sir, Captain Taser here on the south-west coast, enemy forces have landed. Many of my men are dead and the rest of us have been forced to retreat."

"Sergeant Zek here. Our Captain is dead and our company is now down to a understrength platoon. Attempting to link up with either Captain Taser or Captain Kips."

The reports that came in spoke of a disaster with South-western Tatooine becoming overrun with Greenskin forces. Reports from the ports in the south-west suggested that the Greenskin forces were encircling them and they would become besieged and most likely annihilated.

"General Wilkinson, what should we do? We can't let them have those ports but, surely, We'll need the troops to hold off until we can get reinforcements?" Jax questioned the WSF general.

General Wilkinson pondered what to do. He knew that the port cities were vital to the Greenskin invasion but it was very likely that the garrisons would be overrun very quickly. He looked at the table which was displaying the strength of the defenders. Realising that it was futile to attempt to stand and fight for what were already lost positions, Wilkinson decided that it would be better to deny them any useful equipment or facilities that the enemy could use. "Demolish the port cities and withdraw two thirds of the garrisons. We will need the strength to resist any enemy advance. The remaining soldiers will have to fight long enough to ensure the demolition work is complete and then they'll have to get away as best they can." As soon as Wilkinson gave the order, it was relayed to the garrisons.

Jax then ran outside and witnessed an airstrike kill several clones and WSF soldiers. X1 joined him outside and ran towards some of his men, only to narrowly escape a bomb blast from a bomb dropped on a squad of soldiers. Everyone had to then scatter from each other as several fighters and ground attack aircraft began strafing the headquarters and the area around it.

"This is messed up!", a clone trooper said to Jax.

"I agree." Jax replied bluntly as he narrowly escaped machine gun fire. "Trooper, run to the headquarters and ask what are our instructions." Jax ordered the trooper, only to not receive a response. "Trooper? Oh no!" He realised that the machine gun fire he managed to avoid had killed the trooper, blood pouring slowly out of the holes in the armour. Jax then ran to the headquarters himself, the airstrike finally ending.

"What are we to do?" Jax asked General Wilkinson.

"We'll have to delay the enemy advance until reinforcements can come. To that end, I've ordered a perimeter around the enemy bridgehead and long range artillery to be brought up." General Wilkinson replied matter of factly.

Indeed, a number of bases around Tatooine were churning out men and vehicles, grouping them into new formations and sending them to the front. The escaping garrisons that could get away joined the perimeter forces while those that could not found themselves annihilated.

The battle for Tatooine was on and both sides were determined to win.
