Klaus was more than ready to break his curse. He had everything he needed. The first being the Moonstone, which ever since he liberated it from Katerina's clutches hadn't left his safe keeping. More importantly, his precious Doppelgänger was currently in the care of his witch, Greta. Who should be on her way to the ritual sight. Glancing at his watch, he sighed. It was almost time.
While on his way to the site, his phone began its insistent ringing he was half temped to crush it into tiny pieces but when he recognized the caller id he frowned. Not knowing why he felt a icy ball of dread forming in his gut. Accepting the call, he was instantly hit with a cacophony of screaming agony from the female werewolf and Elena's aunt sobbing in the background.
"Greta love you have better not tell me that something has happened to my Doppelgänger I don't hear her why can't I hear her like everyone else?" Klaus voice grated if Elena pulled a Katerina on him he was going to burn this entire down, killing everyone who even knew her no matter how minor.
"Naw… Love I had to put her to sleep she kept yelling at me about some tattoo she apparently has on her right wrist supposedly it just showed up right after I placed her in the ritual circle I made just for her and get this no one else can see it. I think she is losing it and just trying to delay the ritual." Greta responded not picking up on the fact that her boss had stopped breathing.
"Love humor me did she by any chance describe what this invisible tattoo supposedly looked like?" Klaus asked, coming to a complete stop.
"Um… Sure I don't know why you're humoring her but she said it looked like a compass rose I think she said it had four over locking axial lines with three prong shaped pitch forks on the outer edge. There is supposedly more going up the length of her arm but she didn't elaborate."
"Wake her up I will be there momentarily." He ordered.
Klaus felt his heart contract he had to know for sure he hung up the phone without answering his witch's questions. Running the fastest ever run, he was at the ritual site in no time. He found what his witch described the only difference was that Elena Gilbert was pacing the confines of her fire circle. He almost missed it but she kept throwing hateful glances at her aunt who he noted was trying to get her niece to talk to her but his Doppelgänger seemed to be looking for something that was when he noticed her flexing her fingers as if itching to pick up a weapon of some sort.
"Hello Ladies what is this business about some invisible tattoo this have better not be a stupid trick." Klaus threatened. To his own surprise it wasn't his witch that spoke up it was his Doppelgänger who marched to the edge of the fire circle closest to him. Holding up a seemingly bare right hand showing him the back of it as if that was explanation enough but she then she snarled at him.
"Yes vampire I want to know what is going on? Why did it come back is this all part of your sick little game?" Elena Gilbert snarled at him.
"What do you mean 'come back' how did it go away in the first place?" Klaus asked. He ignored the curious looks his witch was giving them. He needed to know.
"Before you showed up in my town, I killed a vampire all by myself and then I felt this burning sensation on my hand. I showed my witch friend the same one you killed she cast a spell to conceal it but she told me that it was temporary. I guess she was right considering it came back right when I stepped inside this stupid circle!" Elena hissed, pacing away before turning to face him again. Klaus actually felt his gonads pull tight into his body when he looked into those once doe-like eyes. Where before even he had to admit he found compassion and innocence residing in them, now there was nothing but malice.
"How do you feel about me Doppelgänger?" Klaus asked, keeping up a brave front.
"Like I want to kill you, so I guess the feeling must be mutual." Elena hissed.
"How do you feel about some of your vampire friends like Caroline or Damon?" Klaus asked his mouth suddenly feeling dry.
"Like I want to kill them, not sure why but it just feels right."
"Elena! They are your friends!" Jenna sniffled, standing up a moving closer to see her niece as much as her own fire circle allowed.
"Not any more vampire!"
"ELENA! WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THIS?" Jenna yelled. She looked wildly between the three of them. "WHAT DID YOU BASTARDS DO TO MY NIECE?"
Klaus didn't answer her he need to ask one final thing of his Doppelgänger.
"Elena, how do you feel about either your Aunt or Stefan the love of your life?" Klaus asked, pushing as much calm as he could into his voice as he dare in front of others.
He felt sick for the first time in centuries when she locked him with hard look with her cold eyes as a smirk that looked more fitting on the devil himself spread over her lips.
"Give me the opportunity and I will kill both of them myself!" Elena Gilbert laughed.
"Sire, are you alright? See I think she is completely off her rocker or playing with us." Greta asked, moving to stand next to him watching Elena taunt her newly turned aunt over the fire.
"I'm not so sure, Greta. Tell me have you ever heard of the Brotherhood of the Five?" Klaus asked, keeping his voice neutral.
"No, why are they a problem?"
"I'm not entirely sure, but I think we need to hold off on completing the ritual till we know for sure."
"Klaus?"
"DO AS I SAY!" Klaus barked then disappeared as quickly as he had come. He needed to think. Was the universe out to get him he wondered as he ran.
