Wolfie: I don't own anything related to Marvel or Iron Man or anything like that. I just own my oc, this plot, and all alterations I make to any canon plots to add her in. Just for clarification Tony will be in his late 20's at age 28 whilst Charlie will be in her mid 20's at age 25 for the sake of the story. Also I am trying to make this a slow burn but it's hard to do that with a plot like this. Now please read, review, maybe give it a favorite, and I hope you like this book so far.
Chapter 3: Second Date
It hadn't been more than two weeks since Tony had ogled Charlie, ended up going on a date with her, and already he wanted to go out with her again. He had been thinking about it for a while now and was trying to find out what to do for the perfect second date. Going clubbing had been a spontaneous choice fueled by the fact that they both had wanted to leave the event. If they ever get past the second date Tony didn't want Charlie to think that he was a predictable man full of spontaneous choices. He wanted things to be exciting and unpredictable, something so... unlike him now that he thought about it. Usually if he wanted to impress a woman he would buy her really expensive gifts or would take her to Paris for a date. Essentially he would just show off his money, because most of the time that's what the women were interested in. But with Charlie she didn't seem interested in his money, she seemed interested in him, and not in his money. Which is what led him to suddenly calling her via J.A.R.V.I.S on a sunny summer afternoon whilst he was tinkering away in his lab.
"Hello?" Charlie asked as she answered the phone, her voice like music to Tony's ears as he tweaked with part of his Iron Man suit, the left glove.
"Hey Charlie, miss me?" Tony asked as he was wearing the glove whilst tweaking it, flexing his fingers to make sure they still moved properly.
"Tony, hey." Charlie said, sounding genuinely happy to hear from him as this caused Tony to smile. "So what's with the sudden call? Is it the other way around and you missed me instead of me missing you?" She asked teasingly as he was thankful this was a phone call as he had to fight back a small blush.
"Maybe..." Tony muttered to quietly as he slipped off the Iron Man glove, setting it on his work table with a small clank. "I was just thinking about you and wondered if you maybe wanted to go out again." He said whilst fiddling with a screwdriver, the silence on the other end of the call making him nervous.
"Yeah, I'd love to go out with you again, Tony." Charlie said after a short while of being silent, having thought over all possible outcomes of that situation. "What did you have in mind?" She asked curiously, wondering if Tony had already planned something or if it would just be a spontaneous choice when they were together.
"I want it to be a surprise. All I have to say is wear something casual, it'll be just the two of us." Tony said, practically bursting with happiness at the fact that Charlie agreed to go out with him again.
"Alright." Charlie said as Tony could hear her shuffling around on her end of the phone call. "Where should I meet you and when?" She asked because then it would be easier to meet up with him, besides she didn't know when he wanted to do this date either.
"I was thinking in maybe an hour? I know it's last minute but still, I want to take you out again." Tony said, hating to have this be last minute but today honestly seemed like the perfect day for what he had planned. "I can even come pick you up, you won't have to worry about driving or paying for a cab." He added quickly, not wanting to miss out on the opportunity to drive Charlie somewhere yet again.
"I dunno Tony..." Charlie said, sounding uncertain about having Tony come pick her up from her home.
"Please?" Tony said, hoping to convince her to let him come pick her up.
"...Fine, you can come pick me up." Charlie said, finally giving in as she had a feeling Tony would keep trying if she didn't agree.
"Fantastic." Tony said with a grin, glad that Charlie gave in before he had the chance to try and pester her till she agrees.
"I'll text you the address." Charlie said and since J.A.R.V.I.S called via Tony's number she was able to save it. "See you in an hour then?" She asked as part of her wondered if he would be on time or if he would be fashionably late.
"Yeah, see you in a hour." Tony affirmed before the call ended, his phone pinging with a text notification not long after.
When he looked at the address and then actually got to the building Tony was honestly a bit baffled to say the least. How could someone as gorgeous as Charlie live in a cheap dump like this? Plus that dress she had been wearing, while probably not as expensive as any name brand designer dress, still must've cost a pretty penny. Tony's mind was all a buzz with unanswered questions as he walked up the stairs and knocked on apartment door 503. It didn't take long for the door to open to reveal Charlie on the other side of it as she smiled upon seeing that he was there, and on time. Tony couldn't help but return the smile as he got a look at her outfit, having to hold in a groan of happiness yet again. The female in question stood before him in navy denim booty shorts, a red and white tie dye crop top that showed off her stomach, and red converses. Her shoulder length blonde hair was also up in a ponytail and a pair of blue tinted aviator glasses sat perched atop her head. Tony couldn't help but drink in every detail as he found himself enjoying Charlie's casual look even more than her dressed up look.
"Hey, ready to go?" Tony asked as he watched Charlie slip a red cross body bag over her head as he spoke.
"Yeah, I'm ready." Charlie spoke as she came out of her apartment and shut the door behind herself, locking it with her key. "Are those, shorts?" She asked with a smirk as she noticed Tony's red shorts, grey tank top, and red tennis shoes.
"Yeah, so?" Tony asked as they were soon walking side by side to the steps as Charlie puts her keys in her purse.
"Nothing. I just didn't know the great Tony Stark wore shorts." Charlie said with a soft chuckle as they soon walked down the stairs towards the parking lot.
"Hey, there's alot of things you don't know about me. I have layers, I'm like an onion." Tony stated as he was the first to reach his car and climb in on the driver's side, Charlie slipping into the passenger seat a minute later.
Charlie stayed silent after that as she did her best to hold back a laugh, it wasn't every day that someone referred to themselves as an onion. Though apparently Tony is more than comfortable with referring to himself as an onion, which is fine since he can refer to himself as whatever he wants. Soon with the turn of a key the cars engine roared to life and the tires squealed slightly as the car sped out of the parking lot. Driving down the road and out of the city, seemingly heading back towards Tony's home at first glance. But instead the car pulled off the road and stopped near what could only be described as a private beach. It had to be Tony's because why else would he be stopping at a private beach that was so close to his own home? There was no other logical reason to him stopping here unless it is infact his beach. As Charlie got out of the car and looked around she hadn't noticed that Tony had parked and shut off the car as he got out as well. Not until she looked over and saw him pulling out a picnic basket, a beach umbrella, and a blanket from the cars trunk. Shutting it as he walked over with the basket in on hand and the blanket and umbrella tucked under his arm as he slipped on a pair of sunglasses.
"Well, you are just full of surprises. Aren't you, Tony?" Charlie said as she slipped on her own sunglasses, pleasantly surprised that this second date was a picnic.
"Well what can I say, I love to surprise people." Tony said with his signature charming smile as he motioned for Charlie to follow him as he began walking.
"You want some help there, Tony?" Charlie asked as she followed him, feeling bad that he was carrying everything himself.
"No, I got it." Tony stated as he glanced around, finding the perfect spot fairly quickly as he got to work with setting everything up.
"Alright, if you say so." Charlie uttered as she stood back and watched Tony set everything up and then set out all of the food and the drinks.
"Wine or water?" Tony asked once everything was set up as he sat down, waiting for her answer before he opened anything.
"Uh, wine." Charlie said as she sat next to Tony, noticing how he had somehow managed to keep things, like the drinks, cold. "After all, it's 5 o'clock somewhere." She added gaining a chuckle from the brunette billionaire.
"I couldn't agree more." Tony said, opening the wine bottle with an audible pop before pouring two glasses, handing Charlie one.
"So, what made you decide to want to take me out again?" Charlie asked after a few minutes of silence, taking a sip of her wine as she took one of the sandwiches that Tony brought.
"Well, I have to admit that you caught my eye at that party, Charlie." Tony said as he took a sandwich as well, eating part of it before putting it down on one of the plates he brought. "There's just, something about you that made me want to see you again. Maybe it's how gorgeous you are or how much we got along the last time. I just, wanted to take you out again and get to know you better." He explained sincerely as Charlie noticed that this was honestly a first for him.
"Aw, that's honestly really sweet to say..." Charlie said, she might just be playing a part for a mission but part of her did think that was really sweet to say. "What would you like to know, then?" She asked before eating part of her own sandwich, waiting for whatever questions he may have.
"Favorite color?" Tony asked, deciding to start out with something simple for now.
"Oh, now that is a competition between purple and blue, honestly." Charlie admitted, feeling like both colors were equally pretty in their own way. "What about you? After all, it's only fair if you answer the questions to." She said as she leaned back on her free hands palm slightly as she spoke.
"Mine's blue." Tony said, deciding not to argue with Charlie since she is right, it's only fair if he answers them to. "Favorite band?" He asked as he leaned back on his palm in order to relax a bit more as well.
"Kiss. What about you?" Charlie questioned as Tony smiled, she liked the band Kiss, which means she's a fan of old school rock and roll.
"AC/DC without a doubt, but Kiss is a good band to." Tony said, happy that so far they have the color blue and old school rock and roll in common. "Favorite food?" He asked as he ate a few of the blueberries he had brought before taking another bite of his sandwich.
"Oh now that is a very diverse category, Tony. See, I love pizza as a favorite food, but I absolutely love raspberries as a favorite fruit." Charlie explained as she ate a few blueberries as well as Tony just soaked up all of this information. "And what's your favorite food?" She asked, still repeating the process of asking him the same questions that he asks her.
"Burgers, love me a good burger." Tony said, kinda wishing he had brought a burger or two cause now he wanted one.
They talked for quite a while after that as Tony found out alot about Charlie and she had found out alot about him too. Everything he found out honestly just made him like her more as they seemed to talk for hours. Slowly chipping away at the food, wine, and water that he had packed in the picnic as the sun got lower in the sky. Eventually though their talking had evolved into Tony trying to show off by tossing blueberries up into the air, trying to catch them in his mouth. Though it never really worked as they either bounced off of his face or missed his face entirely and ended up landing in the sand. Still it got a laugh out of Charlie and that's really all that mattered to Tony, the fact that she was enjoying herself was better than succeeding at this. Though when she tried and succeeded that caused him to pout, but he got over it when he saw how happy she was about succeeding where he failed. So, just this once he would suck up his pride and not try to one up her, this time anyways. Eventually they began to clean up everything together, only to stop and sit side by side to watch the sunset. A big grin coming to Tony's face as he felt Charlie's head on his shoulder.
"This was nice, Tony." Charlie said as she lifted up her sunglasses to see what color the sunset actually was for a moment.
"Yeah, it was." Tony uttered in agreement, having enjoyed this alot more than the skeptical part of his brain expected him to.
After that the two of them just sat in silence, watching as the sun sank lower in the sky until finally it disappeared behind the ocean. The only light aside from the stars in the sky and the moonlight was the soft blue glow of Tony's arc reactor shining through his shirt. Both of them just content to sit there, enjoying the other's company and soaking up one another's warmth on this cool summer night. Though as Tony felt Charlie shiver and shuffle closer to him he figured it was time for him to take her home. Lightly nudging her as he got up, seeing her do the same as he finished packing everything up. Grabbing everything and leading them through the dark to the car, unlocking it so Charlie could get in as he packed everything away in the trunk. Shutting it and climbing into the car, starting it up with the turn of a key as he drove them back to the cheap apartment building that Charlie calls home. Pulling the car into a parking space Tony parked but didn't turn the car off as he turned his attention to the petite blonde in his passenger seat.
"Want me to walk you to your apartment?" Tony asked curiously, watching as Charlie looked at him as well.
"No, I can walk to it on my own." Charlie reassured, the only light in the car one again was the light from Tony's arc reactor.
"Are you sure?" Tony questioned, cause he was paranoid and felt like this place was a mugging waiting to happen.
"I'm sure." Charlie stated, if she was any normal girl she would've accepted the offer, but she wasn't normal.
"Alright." Tony uttered, some reluctance towards dropping the subject evident in his voice though.
"Thank you for the offer though, Tony." Charlie said since she didn't want Tony to be disheartened by her declining his offer as she went to get out of the car.
"Wait, Charlie." Tony suddenly spoke, making Charlie stop with one foot out of the open door as she looked back at Tony.
"Yeah, Tony?" Charlie asked with a raised eyebrow, wondering why he stopped her from leaving the car.
"Would you want to go on a third date with me?" Tony asked, his words coming out kind of quickly as Charlie couldn't help but chuckle at that.
"Tony, I've gone on two dates with you already. If I haven't said no already then what makes you think I would now?" Charlie questioned as she watched Tony shrug slightly. "Just tell me when and where and I'll be there." She reassured with a smile as he let out the breath he didn't know he was holding.
"Great, perfect." Tony stated with a smile, only to be stunned as Charlie gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Bye Tony, try not to miss me too much." Charlie said teasingly before she climbed out of the car.
"Yeah, bye..." Tony uttered as he watched Charlie walk away, watching her for as long as he could before he couldn't see her anymore.
As Charlie ascended the stairs towards her apartment she was extremely happy when she unlocked the door and didn't get the feeling that she wasn't alone. However that didn't stop her from once again pulling the Glock 26 free from the tape keeping it hidden under the table near the door once inside. Clicking the safety off as she searched her whole apartment to make sure that she was truly alone. A process that she goes through nightly as being an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D has made her paranoid. Once she determined that she was indeed truly alone she clicked on the safety and put the Glock 26 back where it belongs. Kicking off her shoes as she headed to her bathroom, taking a much needed shower as she mulled over the events of her date in her mind. Charlie still couldn't believe that she was seeing a side of Tony that neither S.H.I.E.L.D or the media has ever seen. As much as she hated the analogy, he was indeed like an onion, he was a man of many layers. And Charlie had a feeling that she hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of the layers that made up one Tony Stark. That thought made the blonde S.H.I.E.L.D agent extremely intrigued as to what layer to Tony's personality that she will uncover next.
