I'm yours

This story is following Jay's and Hailey's life. There is no specific time that it's set in, but everything up to the episodes that currently air in the U.S already happened. The COVID-19 pandemic is not present anymore, but it also happened.

I also wanted to add that this is just one part of the story. In here, I'll be taking a close look on Jay's and Hailey's relationship as well as all the relationships from the members of Intelligence. So Burzek and Atwater and Rojas. Yes, Vanessa didn't fully leave in this story .

I'm saying this because I'll post a story on Chicago Fire with a different name, and there I'll focus on Stellaride and Brettsey etc.
I hope you're fine with that and now, enjoy the story! ~ D.

When Hailey arrived back at the Intelligence table, she shared a hidden look with Jay. It was something they got used to in the last couple of weeks. They haven't told anyone yet that they're together, not even Voight. It's not that they don't want the others to know, but they want to keep it private for a few weeks. They decided on testing the waters first and telling everyone else when they're sure that it's working. In the meantime, Voight came back from the bar with a new round of beers. Jay, Hailey, and Kevin cracked their eyebrows at him.

"Don't look at me like this. It's just a round of beers", Voight said.

"Well, thanks Sarge", Jay answered and took one of the bottles.

The others did so as well and watched Kim and Adam swinging their hips on the dancefloor. They were completely lost in each other's arms and didn't care about the rest of the world. But they weren't the only ones on the dancefloor. Next to them were Ritter and Gallo from 51, as well as Maggie and Ben. Stella and Kelly were still walking around the bar and thanking everyone who came to celebrate their engagement. Finally, they arrived at the Intelligence table.

"Hey guys, thank you for being here tonight", Kelly began and put his arms around Stella from behind.

"Sure, we'll always be here for you", Kevin answered and held his bottle up in the air.

"Yeah, you guys really deserve this. We're happy when you're happy", Jay said and smiled.

"You're sweet. Stay as long as you want and enjoy the party. We'll see you", Stella said, and the two fiancés walked over to the next table.

"Ugh, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes", Kevin muttered and sipped his beer.

"Why? Don't you want to get married?", Hailey asked surprised.

"Of course, somewhen in the future", Kevin answered quickly, "but I wouldn't throw my fiancée and me an engagement party. I wouldn't want to walk around the place just to thank everyone for being there."

"Well, you've got a point… but I'd still do it, just because I'd be point of interest the whole night and I'd never pay for a drink, because everyone wants to offer me one."

Hailey laughed at her own point and earned a smile from Voight and a laugh from Jay as well.

"Look at that", Kevin said, smiling, "why am I not even surprised that this comes out of Hailey Upton's mouth?"

"You know me Kevin. I'm up for free drinks, whenever I get them."

They laughed again.

"Well, then I'd say next round's on you", Voight stated.

"Why?"

"Because if you want another free drink tonight, you need to pay at least one round."

Hailey looked at Jay, but he just nodded in agreement. She eyed him closely, with a dangerous sparkle in her eyes, but he put his hands up in defeat.

"Sorry Hailey, but I can't disagree here. Sarge is right, one round and then you're done for the next one and a half hours."

"Ha ha… very funny, Halstead", she answered and walked over to the bar.

While Hailey was over at the bar, Voight got up as well and walked over to the table of Boden, Donna, Mouch and Trudy. Jay and Kevin remained seated. Jay noticed that Kevin was watching Kim and Adam closely.

"You good man?", he asked.

"Yeah sure."

Jay didn't like Kevin's short answer.

"Hey, I know that something's on your mind. Tell me."

"No, it's nothing… I'm fine, Jay."

Jay cocked his head and raised his eyebrows.

"Fine, I'll tell you, but only if you let it go afterwards, ok?"

Jay nodded.

"I thought about how much our Unit has changed over the last years. I mean, Antonio left, Olinsky died… Adam and Kim were together, then they broke up… Vanessa joined and now she went undercover for an unknown amount of time…"

"Ah, now we're getting to the point", Jay interrupted him quickly.

"What?"

"Don't do that. Don't play the fool. Come on, I've seen these glances between you guys. She means a lot to you, right?"

Kevin looked down onto his hands.

"Kev? Hey, it's okay, you can tell me."

Kevin looked up again and kept his eyes locked on Jay's.

"And what about you and Upton?"

Jay almost choked on his beer.

"Hm?"

"You know, I could ask you the same question. Is there something going on?"

Now, Jay was trapped. He didn't want to lie to his friend on one hand, on the other hand, he had promised Hailey to keep his mouth shut until they were both ready to let everyone know. What was he supposed to say? Luckily, he didn't have to think about it anymore, because Hailey arrived back at the same time as Adam and Kim. They just laughed about a joke that Adam pulled and interrupted the conversation between Jay and Kevin.

"Hey Kev, what's going on with you? You look like someone just died", Adam lulled in his drunken state and the others laughed at his comment.

Kevin just smiled at him and grabbed another bottle.
The rest of the night passed by very fast. At one point, Cindy went over to the juke box and put on a romantic slow song.

"Now, everyone grabs someone and joins me and Christopher on the dancefloor please!", she shouted against the noise.

She and Herrmann were first out there and started dancing. Soon enough, Cruz and Chloe joined in, with Kelly and Stella right behind them. Kim just had to smile at Adam and then they were next out there. While also Donna and Boden, as well as Mouch and Trudy joined in, Jay hesitated. He desperately wanted to take Hailey's hand and enjoy this song with her, alongside their friends and his brother, who just took Natalie out there, but he wasn't sure whether Hailey wanted this. His eyes darted over to hers and he caught her view. She nodded, barely visible for the others, but Jay saw it. So, he took her hand and they walked out there to dance.
He took her right hand in his left and put his right arm around her waist. She closed the distance between them and then they moved their bodies to the music. In the

meantime, most of the couples have joined in and the dancefloor was quite crowed, so that Jay and Hailey very perfectly hidden between all of the pairs.

"Are you good with this?", Jay whispered in her ear.

"Yeah… I like it. We should do that more often", she whispered back.

He chuckled softly. Then, the song was over and the whole bar cheered. Around that time, the first guests left the party. While Jay and Hailey were still perfectly fine, Adam and Kim got more drunk with every hour passing by, so Jay offered them a ride home.

"Come on guys, you've had enough for tonight. I'll take you home."

"No, Jay… don't be lame, I'm fine and Kim is too", Adam protested but in his drunken state, Jay couldn't take him seriously.

"Adam, you're done for tonight. I'm going to take you home now. Come on, our Uber is already waiting."

Jay spoke in a very firm tone to make sure that Adam understood. He took Kim's arm and pushed Adam forward. Hailey was at his side, constantly watching them to make sure they wouldn't hit something on their way out.
Once they were outside, Jay made a beeline for their Uber and put them in the backseat.

"Where do you stay? Kim's or Adam's?", he asked them and got Kim's as an answer.

He gave Kim's address to the driver and climbed into the passenger's seat, while Hailey sat in the back with the two drunken ones to keep an eye on them.

After they had brought them safely upstairs, they hopped into their Uber again and were brought to Hailey's apartment.

"Well, what a night", Hailey said after they closed her apartment door behind them.

"Yeah… Adam and Kim didn't quite hold back on the alcohol. But it was nice seeing them like this."

"How so?"

"You know, free… They went through a lot lately and today they were able to let go and just have fun. They looked very happy."

Hailey nodded in agreement and eyed him closely.

"What?"

"Nothing… I just like seeing you like this. You look happy too."

"I am happy", he answered and sneaked his arms around her waist.

Then he pressed a soft, loving kiss on her lips.

"What was that for?"

"For our dance tonight. I wanted to thank you for that. I must admit that I was really surprised about you agreeing to it. I mean, you said that we should keep it to ourselves for another couple of weeks."

"Yeah, I know, but tonight, everyone was either too drunk to notice anyway or too focused on Kelly and Stella. I figured that no one would realize."

She smiled brightly at him.
God, how much he loved that woman when she smiled at him like this. He knew that he'd go through the worst pain over and over again, if only he could see that smile for the rest of his life.

"Wanna go to bed?"

Her question brought him back to reality and he nodded tiredly.
They put their jackets and shoes into place and went straight for the bathroom. After brushing their teeth and getting themselves ready for the night, they crawled under the covers and Hailey cuddled herself into his side.

"Goodnight Jay", she said and nuzzled her face even more into his side.

"Sweet dreams", he whispered and soon, they drifted off to sleep.

Author's note: And that's it for the first chapter! I hope you like it and as always, reviews are very welcomed! Please don't hesitate to tell me about grammar mistakes if you spot any. I'm not a native speaker, so I'm doing the best I can, but I've got my boundaries… unfortunately 😉
I love the One Chicago shows so much and all of the characters really own my heart. I'm not the biggest fan of Med, although I'm not really sure why, but I try to include some characters from there as well.

Please don't hate me for being a Manstead shipper, I know that they're over now and that a lot of you like Mancel, but I'm absolutely no fan of them. It's not that I can't stand them, but in my eyes, they don't fit together… BUT this is only my opinion and I absolutely respect it if you disagree with me. (Although it might be hard for those of you who love Mancel, because in my story here and over at Chicago Fire, I will only mention Manstead…)

For those of you who haven't read the other part of the story on Chicago Fire: I'm from Switzerland, so I'm going to update at very strange times for all of you who live in the U.S., and I hope you're okay with that. I'm not a schedule person, so I don't know how regularly I'll update but I try to do it at least once a week.

P.S: You mustn't read the part of Chicago Fire to understand the story, or at least I'm trying to draw as few parallels as possible. Otherwise, just give it a try, maybe you grow on it… 😉.

P.P.S: I have a question for those of you who read the part over at Chicago Fire: Did you spot the starting point of this story? 😊

Anyways, stay safe and have a great day! ~ D.
