The Rookery

Lunchtime

Lily smiled as she watched Luna and Harry greeting Hermione, and how excited the three of them were to be together. They were talking over each other and gesturing, before Luna grabbed them by the hands and took them upstairs.

Shaking her head with a grin, she turned to Hermione's parents, Richard and Monica and saw that they were just as amused. Richard said, "It's hard to believe she's the same girl who got on the Express in September, but it's fantastic to see how happy and outgoing she is now. Did she actually use a prank spell on some boy that annoyed her?"

Lily laughed, "She did, and it was a spell that Selene and I developed when we were in, I think it was our fifth year. We called it the Fluorescent Fart Curse, and whoever it's cast on will find themselves with very colorful flatulence until it wears off. Hermione actually had the cheek to cast it in my class, knowing that I was one of the ones who created it! I had to give her detention when I caught her at it, but we spent the time making sure she could cast it silently, so no one could tell who cast it. I'm not sure if I'm worried or excited to see what they will get up to next year when Luna joins them, because Luna is even more imaginative than Harry and Hermione are."

She and Selene guided the couple over to the kitchen table and soon all four of them were sipping from their cups of tea and nibbling on savory biscuits. They talked among themselves, with Selene asking questions about how Richard and Monica got together, and what exactly a dentist did. Monica explained what sort of things their dental practice did, which fascinated Selene, who hadn't spent a lot of time in the non-magical world.

But it was when Richard started talking about how they met that things got interesting. He looked at her and Selene and said, "Based on how close Hermione is with your two children, I'd expect that we will be seeing a great deal of each other over the next several years, so I'm going to trust the two of you to keep what I tell you a secret, can you do that?"

Lily almost shivered at the command in Richard's voice and his posture, but managed to say, "As long as you didn't meet in the middle of a crime spree, or at a Serial Killer convention, I think we can agree to keep a secret."

Richard chuckled and Monica giggled, "No, nothing like that, we were in our second year of Dental School and both of us were extremely stressed over the workload, so we individually decided to visit a club in downtown London, called Club Justine..."

Lily couldn't help the gasp, she'd heard about the club but never got up the nerve to visit before she got married, and James wasn't quite open minded enough to understand what she was trying to tell him.

Richard looked at her sharply, "Have you been there, Lily?"

Selene was looking at her curiously, but Lily shook her head, "No, I never could work up the nerve, and then I was married and I was left with my fantasies." Turning to Selene, she said "Club Justine is a club for people in a very specific lifestyle, and I was interested in the lifestyle as soon as I heard about it."

Monica nodded, "I was the same way, but didn't know how to find somebody who could meet my needs until I heard about the club and I met Master that night. He fucked me for the first time in one of the playrooms, and it was the most satisfying experience of my life! We started dating the next night, to see if we were compatible with our clothes on, and were married less than a year later."

Selene looked at the three of them without saying anything, and Lily was starting to get worried, until Selene grinned, "So, should the two of us plan on a disguised trip to Lilith's Toy Box before school starts, Lily?" Turning to Richard and Monica, she said

"You've been open with us, so we can be open with you, Lily and I are lovers and have been for years, both my husband and James, Lily's late husband were and are aware and don't have any problems with the two of us. Although Xeno is always inspired when he comes home after I've spent time with Lily, so none of us are complaining."

The four of them relaxed and the conversation went into areas that none of them would have expected that morning, although it was a surprise when Monica mentioned that she had heard Hermione moaning Luna and Harry's names during the night. Selene and Lily both grinned, hearing that, and Lily said, "I don't think that's going to be a problem with Harry or Luna, since they are both aware that Selene and I are lovers, and Luna said it sounded like fun, but not for a few years yet, they aren't ready for it right now. But, is Hermione aware of your lifestyle, and if she is, is she comfortable with it?"

Monica giggled, "You could say that, she's always been precocious, last summer she snuck into the playroom when Master and I were playing with a two other couples and was fascinated, approaching me with all kinds of questions the next morning. Not a conversation I was expecting for a few years yet, but she seemed to understand what I was explaining to her."

Before Lily could say anything, the three kids came rushing down the stairs and into the living room, where Luna grabbed a book and sat down on the carpet in front of the couch. Lily couldn't see what book it was, but she did notice that all three of them were flushed, and their lips were all swollen. Looking at Richard and Monica as well as Selene, it was clear that they noticed the same thing, and all she could think was that their lives just got a lot more complicated!

Charms Office

After Dinner

Lily smiled as Draco and Pansy left her office, they had questions about the homework assignment and she answered their questions, including a demonstration of the charm she had assigned them to write an essay on. It always made her feel good to see the look of comprehension in a student's eyes when they truly understood what she was teaching them, although she wondered how many others had the same problem but didn't ask? Making a note to revise the lecture to clarify what she was looking for, she had just put the notes away when there was a knock on her door.

Looking up, she grinned and waved Ernie in, "Evening Mister McMillan, what can I help you with this evening?"

Ernie smiled at the friendly greeting, and shook his head, "I don't need any help, Professor Potter, but I was wondering if you had any extra credit assignments I could do? I think I'm doing well with actually casting the charms, but I need to work on my theory. I was talking about your classes with my parents, and my dad started asking me questions about the theory behind some of the charms and I could only answer about half of them, and in my family that's not good at all!"

Lily nodded, glad that Ernie had recognized his weakness, "Why do you say that, Ernie?" She was already well aware of the McMillan's businesses, but wanted to hear what Ernie had to say about them.

He shrugged, "Well, my family has always been interested in Charms, at least for the last few hundred years anyway, and several of them were Charms Masters and Mistresses, so I really need to understand everything I can about the subject. The fact that I really am interested, especially after you used all those charms to save my life just means I want to do the best I can. That way, when I graduate I can move into one of the family businesses and be confident that I know enough to keep it going successfully."

"Well then, I can see why you are so interested, and while I don't have any extra credit for you right now, I can recommend a couple of books that are available in the library that should help you with your theory. If you still have questions after you finish, come back during my office hours and we can discuss them, how does that sound?"

Ernie nodded eagerly, "That would be great, Professor! Thank you so much."

Lily just grinned and wrote the titles of two of the books she had used during her years as a student and handed him the list. Ernie managed to say goodbye before he was heading out the door, no doubt on his way to the library. She shook her head, remembering how eager she and Selene were to find everything they could about Charms when they were Ernie's age.

Checking the time, she saw that her office hours were nearly finished for the night, and she could head back to her rooms and relax. As soon as the clock hit 8 o'clock she closed and locked her office door and gathered up her paperwork, using the door in the back of the office to get to her rooms.

She was really looking forward to a relaxing evening, because she had a lot to think about regarding the changes in Harry and Luna's relationship. She had been aware that both of them were very fond of Hermione, but to want to have a triad marriage? That would have to be handled very carefully to make sure people didn't dig too deeply into the Potter situation. At least Sirius is willing to make Harry the Heir to the Black family, since James' mother was a Black, and that would let Hermione take the Lady Potter role. Fortunately they still had over six years before they had to figure it out.

Time Passes

Lily couldn't believe how quickly time was passing, it seemed like it was only yesterday that she was nervously waiting for her first class to walk through her doors, and now she was getting her 5th and 7th years ready for their OWLs and NEWTs! Of course, there were always students who were determined to push things, and this years headache was the Weasley Twins, of course. She had known they were determined to be pranksters from the first time she'd met them, at Harry and Neville's joint birthday party, but they've only gotten worse since then.

She wouldn't mind, if the pranks were harmless, but some of the pranks were getting very close to bullying, and she wouldn't tolerate that, no way in hell! Especially since they seemed to target Slytherins more than any other house.

Which is why she was sitting in her office on a sunny Saturday afternoon, waiting for the two of them to arrive for their detention. The twins arrived right on time and as soon as they were in her office she gestured with her wand and the door slammed closed behind them.

"Sit down you two, I want you little bullies to watch a couple of memories, and then we will discuss your behavior. Now, I know that you consider yourselves pranksters and not bullies, but I'm going to show you a memory of another group of pranksters, they called themselves the Marauders." From the shocked looks on their faces, it was obvious that they had heard of them.

Standing up, she walked over to the Pensieve she had prepared, with the memory of the incident during the OWLs. Gesturing for the two of them, she waited until they had their fingers touching the memory before touching the surface herself.

The two gingers were looking sick at the humiliation of Severus, and she said, "Just in case you weren't sure, the one with the glasses is my late husband, James Potter, also known as Prongs, the other dark haired boy is Sirius Black also known as Padfoot, Moony is Remus Lupin and the sniveling little coward hiding behind them was Peter Pettigrew, also known as Wormtail."

The memory ended and the three of them were standing beside the bowl again. "The boy they were humiliated was Severus Snape, my best friend since I was about nine years old. He was the one who told me I was a witch. But, because we had the misfortune to meet James and Sirius on the Hogwarts Express, and James decided that I was the one for him, he and Sirius were automatically hostile to Sev, and it only got worse when he was sorted into Slytherin."

Looking down, she sighed, "From what I've been able to find out, it was about week later that Lucius Malfoy introduced Sev to Voldemort, and he was given the Dark Mark. He's dead now, of course, just like all the others. Such a waste! Sev was the only student in the school who was better at Potions than I was, and he could have become the youngest Potions Master in history, but those bullies humiliated him so much that he was seduced by Malfoy and threw it all away. Is that who you want to emulate? Because the way you are singling out the younger Slytherins tells me you're doing a damn fine job of it!"

One of the twins managed to say, "But, if he was that bad, why did you marry him?"

She shook his head, "He started getting better over the summer, because a prank of Sirius' backfired and could have led to Moony's death. It was enough to make him take another look at his behavior and stop the pranking. We didn't start dating until halfway through our 6th Year, when he convinced me he really had changed. Now, what I want to know is, are you willing to change, or are you going to find yourselves expelled for driving a student to suicide with your bullying?"

The two of them were pale as a ghost and one of them jumped out of his chair and grabbed a trash bin where he was noisily sick. Lily moved over to him, and when he was finished she cast the mouth cleaning charm and handed him a glass of water, banishing the mess as she guided him back to his seat.

Looking at the two of them she said, "From your expressions, you'd never considered what you were doing as bullying, did you?" Both twins shook their head, still pale, and Lily nodded, "Okay then, what's going to happen is, every prank you plan, you talk to me first. If I feel that it crosses the line, I'll help you adjust it so it doesn't. If you're willing to do that, I'll teach you some of the prank spells that Selene and I developed that didn't go into the books. But, if you play any prank, even something like dung bombs in a whoopee cushion, I'll be having a conversation with Molly. You don't want that, do you?"

The look of fear was almost comical, but she kept her face impassive as the two of them swore they would do what she said with any pranks they came up with. Lily dismissed them and waited until the door closed behind them to take back the memory and lock up the Pensieve. She really hoped that she had gotten through to the twins, they weren't bad, just too Gryffindorish to consider how somebody else would take their idea of humor.

Evans' Rest

Ottery St Catchpole, Devon

Dinner Time

Harry was even more excited than normal to be home, he was practically bouncing in his seat, so Lily finally said, "Okay Harry, what's got you acting like a Hufflepuff firstie who overloaded on Sugar Quills?"

He smiled widely and said, "Ollie talked to this morning before we got on the Express, and he told me to make sure I bring a good broom to school next September because he wants me to try out for Seeker on the Quidditch team! I mean, I can understand why Percy is going to resign, he only took the position because nobody else was any good, and he wants to concentrate on his NEWT classes next year. So, can I try out mum?"

Lily laughed at his enthusiasm, she hadn't seen him this excited about something that didn't involve Luna or Hermione in quite a while. "Of course you can try out, as long as you keep your grades up for the rest of term, and don't spend all your time flying. And we can visit Quality Quidditch after school is over to take a look at the different brooms. Now, I believe a young lady is waiting patiently for you to visit, so why don't you do that?"

With a grin and a quick kiss on the cheek, Harry grabbed his jacket and activated the floo to the Rookery. When the flames turned back to normal, she walked upstairs to Sirius and Remus' room and knocked on the door.

Sirius opened it a few seconds later and waved her in, and Lily was happy to see both men were fully dressed. "Thanks for letting Harry and I have dinner by ourselves, we really don't get to talk that much during term."

"No problem Lily, we're already planning on spending a lot of time with Harry over the next couple of weeks, when he's not with his girls anyway." Remus grinned, "But I'm sure you didn't come up here to thank us, did you?"

She shook her head, "No, actually I wanted to ask the mutt for a favor. Harry told me at dinner that he's been asked to try out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team next year, as the Seeker, so I'm going to be getting him a good broom for the position for his birthday. But what I need one of you to do, since you are still listed in the ward book, is to go back to Potter Manor and see if you can find some of James' Quidditch Jerseys, even if he couldn't wear them in a game, I'm sure that Harry would love to have something of James', now that he's old enough to understand what happened."

"Sure, I can do that after you go back to school, but being asked to try out as a Second Year? That's fantastic! Prongs and I didn't get on the team until Fourth Year, so we'll make sure to congratulate him in the morning. But, how are things going with the Weasley Twins? Are they behaving themselves?"

Lily chuckled, "They are now, but it was rough in the beginning. I was very close to having Molly come to the school and give them each an in-person Howler, but they straightened themselves out. Now they check each prank idea with me, and I help them keep it from being bullying." She laughed, "I even helped the two of them prank the entire staff table last week! Of course, Filius recognized the charm as one of the ones that Selene and I developed, so I had to watch my step anytime I walked into the staff room since I was hit with quite a few pranks in retaliation, but we were all laughing about it by the end the day, so I didn't mind."

Remus shook his head, "Thinking back on it, I wish somebody had made us pull our heads out of our arses when we were younger. But, do you really think we were the ones to send Snivelus to Malfoy?"

"No, he was already well on the way by then, but I needed to make them see the consequences of what they were doing before it was too late, so I didn't bother going into details. I also didn't go into details about the mutt's boneheaded stunt that could have gotten you killed, because you don't need the headaches that more people knowing your a werewolf would cause. Hell, as fond of the woman as I am, can you imagine Molly Weasley keeping quiet if she knew about you?"

Remus grimaced, "Not a chance in hell. She'd practically take out a full page notice in the Prophet if she knew."

"Exactly! Now I've got a bottle of wine and a bath waiting for, so I'll see you in the morning."

McMillan Lodge

Friday, April 17th, 1992

Ernie looked around curiously, this was the first time his father had called him into his office, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, as far as he could tell. Taking one of the chairs in front of the desk, he was surprised that his father sat down in the seat next to him. Sitting quietly, he waited for his father to speak, but whatever Ernie was expecting, it wasn't what he heard.

"Do you know a girl named Daphne Greengrass?"

Ernie blinked, trying to remember what he knew about her, "Yes I do, she's a Slytherin in my year, and I have a couple of classes with her. She's friendly and smart, better at transfiguration than charms, but willing to help others in the class. Why?"

His father actually chucked before saying, "Well, apparently you made a greater impression on Miss Greengrass than she did on you, because I received a letter this afternoon from Cyrus Greengrass requesting a meeting to discuss a betrothal between the two of you."

"Betrothal? So soon? I'm only 12 years old, and I think Daphne is still 11, and I know I'm not ready to be married!"

His father laughed and patted him on the shoulder, "That was exactly my reaction when my father asked me about Anna Diggory during my first year. And you won't be getting married until both of you are at least 17 years old, this is just to give you two time to get to know each other and see if you are compatible. If you aren't, the betrothal can be ended without penalty up until you are 16 years old."

Ernie leaned back in the chair and gave a sigh of relief, "Okay, that's a lot better than I was thinking, and she actually did get my attention, she's one of the prettiest girls in our year, and we've gotten along just fine when we worked on a couple of different projects together."

His father nodded, "That's fine, I'll contact Cyrus and we can arrange a meeting for all of us to hammer out the details. But don't be surprised if one of the details is that you and Daphne have at least two sons, and the first one takes the Greengrass name. Your brother and his wife have already provided the McMillan heir, so that shouldn't be a problem."

Ernie left the room, still shaken by what had happened, but he had to smile picturing Daphne and imagining kissing her. No, it wasn't a bad idea at all!

Potter Manor

Saturday, May 2nd, 1992

Early Afternoon

Sirius frowned as he walked through the front door of Potter Manor, he had so many wonderful memories of the times he stayed here, it just wasn't right to see it so empty and quiet. Shaking his head, he muttered "It won't be like this forever, lets go find what we need and get out of here!"

Walking up the stairs he stopped at Prongs and Lily's bedroom, the bed still rumpled from the night before, and checked the closets. Nothing there, just his Auror robes and off duty clothes. Taking a chance he looked in Lily's closet, and other than some outfits that were designed to have Prongs tear them off of her, there was nothing of interest there either.

Leaving the bedroom, he found the entrance to the attic and pulled down the ladder. Coughing at the accumulated dust, he cast a couple of cleaning and air freshening charms and smiled as he breathed in the clean air again. Activating the lighting charms, he started looking around, amazed at the amount of different things that the Potters had accumulated since the house was built.

Looking through the racks of clothing, it was easy to see that they had belonged to Fleamont and Euphemia or Charlus and Dorea, nothing of Prongs' or Lily's. Snickering a little at the fashions from a hundred years ago, Sirius turned away and started looking for James' school trunks, because the Quidditch robes would be there if they were anywhere.

It took quite a bit of searching, but eventually he did find the trunks he was looking for, sitting against the far wall, right under a couple of covered portraits. He wondered who was in the paintings, but he could check on that later, he needed to see what was in Prongs' trunk. Pulling the trunk away from the wall he tapped his wand on the lock and said, "Padfoot Solemnly Swears he is up to No Good," and the lock clicked open. Smiling at the memories of all four of them charming the passwords into each of their trunks at the beginning of fifth year, before Voldemort started ramping up the attacks, and before Peter... No, not going to think about the traitor, he's dead and can't betray anyone now!

Opening the lid, he nodded in satisfaction, the Quidditch jerseys were right on top of the trunk, along with a black leather journal. "I'll be damned! That's where it went!" Lifting the book out of the trunk, he pushed his thumb against the lock, wincing as the needle drew blood, but then the cover opened and he was starting at Prongs' handwriting as he wrote down the path they took to being an Animagus, and, flipping through the pages, the instructions for creating a new Marauders Map if needed. He laughed lightly,

"Lily's going to want to kill me for giving it to Harry, but it was meant for the next generation of Marauders, and since neither Moony or I are going to have a sprog, that leaves Harry."

Putting the journal in his robe pocket, he pulled out the jerseys that were in the trunk and set them aside. Looking through the rest of the trunk, he didn't see anything that Harry needed to see, at least not yet. Maybe after he graduated he could see the box of pictures, it wouldn't do for him to see a couple of his professors, not to mention his mum posing naked in the upper room of the Three Broomsticks. Although Sirius did want to know how he managed to get Rosmerta to drop her kit?

Putting the pictures away, he closed the trunk and, with a soft "Mischief Managed" the lock activated again. Moving the trunk back against the wall, he looked at the portraits speculatively for a long moment, before pulling off the coverings. His jaw dropped at the sight of two people he thought he would never see again, blinking and looking around as if they were waking up. "Charlus? Dorea?"
