Chapter 2: Trapped In Sin
That evening Tai and Matt returned home with Reiki, opening the door and walking through it before taking off their shoes and approaching the couch to sit down together, Reiki in between them both.
Tai sat there with his hands curled up into fists on his lap, Matt was clasping his hands together as his elbows rested on his lap, both of them staring at the floor not sure where to start with this explanation.
Reiki could feel their uneasiness sitting between them, he was very curious about what they wanted to tell him but they were clearly concerned about it.
All three were dead silent, the only sound was the clock ticking, an awkward and long silence that felt as if it was squeezing the room, making it hard to breathe almost.
"Papa, Dad, am I a demon?" Reiki finally broke the silence
"What? No of cou-" Tai quickly denied before suddenly stopping to stare at Reiki's sorrowful expression, those big eyes that were always so joyous were filled with sadness, but also hope that his parents could take away his doubts.
"Reiki..." Tai said softly as he patted the little ones head "You're not a demon, you're... something else..."
Reiki tilted his head curiously "Something else?"
Matt gently placed a hand on Reiki's shoulder, causing Reiki to turn his head to look at him instead "We've been meaning to tell you about how you were born but..." Matt paused for a moment "It's very hard for us to explain it to you" Matt continued "You see... your birth wasn't... normal"
"But not demonic?" Reiki urged for the answer to be yes, but quickly noticed that that was not going to be his answer as his parents hung their heads down in shame.
Reiki looked at them both in confusion, Tai continuing the explanation "Your birth wasn't demonic per say... but how it came to be..."
Matt folded his arms as Tai scratched the back of his head, both quite puzzled and still not sure how to explain this to their son "Is it that complicated?" Reiki asked curiously
"Yeah..." Tai finally admitted "It's... very complicated..."
Tai huffed a long sigh, building up the courage to tell Reiki how it all went down.
"Reiki" Tai said with a gentle tone, Reki looking up at Tai ready to listen to what he has to say "How you were born... Well... you know Agumon right?"
"Right" Reiki nodded as he confirmed Tai's question.
"Well" Tai continued, his voice still gentle, he didn't want to make Reiki feel any more concerned than he already was after all "Agumon is a creature called a Digimon, from another world, he's not a demon, he's more of a dinosaur"
Reiki's eyes lit up in fascination "A dinosaur creature from another world? Are they all dinosaurs from that world?"
Matt chuckled "No, you've met Gabumon as well, he's also a Digimon, a wolf type of sorts"
Reiki looked back and forth between his parents with slight excitement "Wow! That's so cool! But... What do they have to do with me?"
Tai bit his lip as he hesitated a bit, but pushed himself to go on with the explanation "There are good Digimon like our partners, but there are also bad Digimon... Reiki... An evil demonic Digimon... called Myotismon... He... I... Well he..."
"He forced you inside of Tai" Matt quickly took the explanation from here, making Tai look at Matt with a nervous expression "You see, this evil demonic Digimon forced... pieces of data that had your code inside of papa, and he did this in order to torture him, your data was evil because of this demonic Digimon, but I helped papa purify the data, so you would be able to be born happy, healthy and as normal as possible"
Tai was surprised at how well Matt handled this conversation, he explained it in a safer way than Tai ever could, for that he was grateful.
Reiki stared at Matt and then at Tai then back and forth a second but with confusion in his eyes "But... My teacher said men can't carry babies"
Both Tai and Matt's expressions then became gloomy, Reiki asking all of the hard questions they had to answer in a kid friendly way "That's uhh..." Tai said with a nervous tone "Digimon are genderless, so they can make anyone carry babies..."
"Ohh" Reiki accepted Tai's answer, thankfully, as Tai wasn't very creative with explanations.
Reiki stared down at his lap for awhile "So I'm like... a purified demon then?"
Matt huffed a small sigh as he wrapped an arm around Reiki's shoulders and pulling him into a hug "An evil Digimon tried to hurt papa, it's not your fault, you're not a demon..."
Matt then pulled away as he smiled at Reiki "You're a Digimon/Human hybrid, that's why you have powers, Agumon and Gabumon have powers as well"
Reiki's eyes then lit up "I'm half a cool creature just like Agumon and Gabumon?"
Tai smiled as well, happy to know Reiki was happy knowing he's half Digimon "Yep, and that's also why you grow up so fast"
"Wow cool!" Reiki cheered with excitement, making Matt and Tai chuckle before exchanging nods towards each other.
Matt suddenly had a thought about this however "Tai" He said curiously
"Yeah?" Tai replied
"If Reiki really is a Digimon then remember what we were told before? That nature types digivolve faster than normal Digimon, you think he's not growing up but just... digivolving?"
Tai's eyebrows perked up "Actually, now that you mention it that is true, then that mean..."
Matt smiled with a determined expression "We can get him to only grow up when he's at the right age in human years, so he can make it better through school like he's a normal kid"
Tai stood up with excitement "That sounds great!"
Reiki watched as his parents excitedly talked about making Reiki seem more normal "What's digivolving?"
Matt and Tai both looked at Reiki with confusion "You mean... You don't know?" Matt asked first as Reiki shook his head slowly.
Tai was even more confused "Then how did you grow up beyond a baby into a child?"
Reiki paused for a moment as he thought about it "I don't know... It never really crossed my mind, I just one day woke up like this"
Matt looked at Tai, already with a suggestion "Do you think Reiki doesn't know how to control his digivolutions?"
"That's certainly possible" Tai agreed, it was the only explanation they had for now "Maybe we should talk to Izzy about this"
Both Tai and Matt turned to look at Reiki who was smiling at them both, Reiki always seemed to be a nice boy, very caring and understanding and quite mature for his age, well asides from the fight during school but everyone has their moments.
Tai and Matt both smiled in return to Reiki expressing his happiness, he doesn't seem to be as bothered by this information as they thought he would be.
Tai approached Reiki, picking him up to hold him in his arms and nuzzle their noses together, making Reiki giggle "Let's go see Izzy"
Reiki nodded with a big smile across his face "okay!"
Izzy was at home looking through his computer for any new information, out of curiousity and for fun.
"Izzy what are you looking at?" Tentomon said casually as Izzy scrolled through the files on his computer, checking everything carefully
"I'm trying to figure something out..." he replied, hisn eyes remaining on the monitor.
Tentomon flew up towards Izzy to hover next to him in order to see what he was looking at "Oh, how long have you been researching this?"
"Well" Izzy replied, his casual tone remaining "I've been curious about how it works ever since-"
Just then the doorbell rang making both Izzy and Tentomon look at the door "I'll get it" Tentomon flew towards the door to check who it is "Oh speak of the devil, It's Tai, Matt and their son Reiki"
Izzy's eyes lit up with eagerness "Good, let them in"
Tentomon did just that, opening the door for the family "Welcome! Please take a seat" he suggested as he flew back towards Izzy who was looking at the family with a welcoming smile "How have you guys been lately?"
"Go sit down Reiki" Tai asked his son, Reiki understanding and quickly trotting over towards the couch and plopping himself on it
"We've been well, Izzy, although Reiki had an incident at school... We wanted to talk to you about it" Tai admitted as Izzy stood up and took out a device before approaching Reiki and kneeling down in front of him "I made this device, mind if I scan your son with it?" Izzy asked, looking towards Reiki's parents.
Matt and Tai stared at each other before shrugging and looking at Izzy again "What does it do?" Matt asked curiously
"It won't hurt him, since he's part Digimon it checks his data so I can put it on the Digimon analyzer, since he has no information to look up on it I need to add him to the database in order to check his stats"
Izzy reassured the two, Matt and Tai hardly understanding his jargon, but they were okay with it anyway "Alright, go ahead"
With that, Izzy turned on the scanner and let it do it's thing as he pointed it towards Reiki "Hold still okay Reiki?"
"Okay" Reiki replied, doing as asked
Finally the scanner finished as it let out a beep, Izzy took the chip out of it and placed it into the usb port on his computer, bringing up the analyzer "Aha, good it worked"
Tai and Matt became curious themselves and walked behind Izzy's computer to look at the analyzer "So" Tai said "What does it say about him?"
Izzy looked through the stats on Reiki as he said them out loud "Human/Digimon hybrid, we knew that much, seems he's more Digimon than human though"
Matt nodded "We figured that was the case"
Izzy continued "He is a nature type as we discovered a couple years back, but he seems to have both nature and darkness attacks"
"At school he let out an attack, a bright crimson light that shockwaved everyone against the walls" Tai reminded himself "Which of these attacks was it?"
Izzy scrolled through the attacks until he found the one in question "Crimson wave, it's a darkness type attack"
Tai's eyes narrowed slightly "Then that is a trait from Myotismon..."
"It seems that way yes" Izzy confirmed, scrolling through the other stats.
"Izzy" Matt asked "We wanted to ask you about his digivolutions, does he digivolve or does he just grow up fast?"
Izzy began typing into his computer "I'm not sure, but this analyzer should be able to tell us"
After a short while of searching Izzy found their answer "Hmm... It seems he does digivolve but his forms are strictly human, so he can control when he grows up or when he is a kid again, just make sure he doesn't choose to be a baby form again, he may be part Digimon but his mind works like a humans, whatever form he takes he will have the brain capacity of that form"
Izzy looked at Tai and Matt with a serious expression "If he goes back to baby form you'd have to wait for the baby mind to choose when it digivolves again, which would cause problems..."
Tai and Matt nodded to this "Okay, we also wanted to ask you if you knew how Reiki could control his forms, he doesn't know how" Matt asked
Izzy smiled at the two "That's easy, just let him hang around your Digimon partners and he'll pick up on it naturally"
"Really?" Tai blinked curiously, he didn't expect it to be that easy
"Yeah of course" Izzy nodded, his smile remaining.
Matt and Tai looked at each other and smiled "Then this should be a piece of cake" Tai said, a relieved tone in his voice
"I want cake now" Reiki sighed grumpily, obviously bored about being at Izzy's place, he talked nothing but technicalities all day, nothing Reiki understood and quite boring a child like him.
"We'll get you a treat later if you wait patiently for your dad's okay?" Matt smiled at Reiki, reassuring him his patience would be rewarded.
"Okay" Reiki smiled, kicking his feet back and forth while sitting on the couch.
"Tai" Izzy motioned at Tai for him to lean down so he could whisper to him, Tai willingly did so, wondering what Izzy wanted to tell him.
Izzy leaned beside Tai's ear "Keep an eye on Reiki, I have a feeling that Myotismon will come for him"
Tai's eyes widened, he whispered back "Come for him? Why would he come for him?"
"Myotismon was the first to create him inside you, technically Reiki is his son as well, but Myotismon will want to try and raise him to fight against you... After all Reiki is still young and impressionable... Here" Izzy said as he handed Tai a small chip
"Put this on his clothes so you can make sure you know where he is when he's at school" Izzy dropped the chip in Tai's hand "It's a tracker"
Tai took the chip and placed it into his pocket "Thanks Izzy, I don't like the idea of watching where he is all the time, I trust Reiki, however, I don't trust Myotismon..."
"Exactly" Izzy agreed "Reiki is a good boy, Myotismon is the one we need to keep an eye on, but at the same time we have to know where Reiki is... This tracker will beep if Reiki was taken to the digital world"
Tai leaned back from Izzy with a determined expression "Thanks for your help Izzy, I'll make sure everything will go as smoothly as possible"
"Alright" Izzy nodded.
"Reiki" Tai said as he turned to his son, walking towards him and holding out his hand for him to hold.
Reiki got up from the couch and took hold of his dad's hand, Matt walking alongside them "Let's go home" Tai said witha smile towards his son.
"Okay~" Reiki cheerfully said, happy to finally leave "I'll get my treat as well right?"
Matt chuckled "As promised"
"Yay!" Reiki cheered in excitement
As the family walked out the door Izzy stopped them one last time "Tai, Matt, one more thing"
Tai and Matt both looked at Izzy "Yeah?" Matt asked
Izzy gave them a serious expression "If Reiki can digivolve into a teenager or adult form, then he'd be able to better understand his situation and be less impressionable towards Myotismon, making him one of those forms should be your goal"
Tai and Matt both nodded at Izzy "Got it" Tai agreed to the suggestion, Izzy giving a thumbs up until the family finally left, closing the door behind them.
"Now" Izzy mumbled "I need a way to track Myotismon..."
