Chapter 10
Heracles made a sharp turn to the left of an alleyway. The Servant was huffing hard, smoke trailing from his nostrils and right between his lips. He made a leap and landed on the roof of a building. However, golden orbs suddenly blazed the edges of the building. The roof collapsed, preventing the Berserker Servant from landing.
The Servant then landed on the road and dashed again. Behind him, still hot on his trails, were the other two Servants, Archer and Saber. "I have to say he's quite fast!" Ishtar said as she popped twelve golden orbs from behind her, only for the Berserker to veer to his left and then to his right, avoiding each and every shot.
"Just shoot!" Saber said, her sword on her back began to glow red. She pivoted it forward and unleashed her noble phantasm. "EXCALIBUR MORGAN!"
Crimson lit up the road and travelled towards Heracles. However, the Greek Hero saw it coming and quickly sprung to his right. The beam hit the buildings and the road, collapsing it in the process.
"Damn it!" He's really leading me away from Jim! Saber thought of the Berserker's strategy and it made her more agitated. Ishtar, however, suddenly thought of an idea.
This route would lead him to that place. "Saber, I got an idea." Archer said as Saber glanced at her, ready to hear her idea.
Heracles rushed past a crossroad. His lifeless eyes were looking straight at the road. He made a side-glance to his right and saw the reflection of him and Saber, who was still trailing behind him. However, he was missing one more Servant. The Archer was nowhere in sight.
The Berserker looked around, but the sky was empty, and the roof of the buildings had provided him with poor visuality. He growled in alertness before he looked in front again, seeing a wide plaza was at the end of the road, and the other side of it was another alleyway.
He made a mad dash and entered the plaza, but a flash of gold reflected back to his eyes. Heracles leapt and rolled in the air, avoiding a golden orb, but as he rolled his eyes caught the familiar figure of Ishtar. The Goddess was hovering above him, a wild smile on her face.
"Got ya!" A dozen golden orbs launched. The Berserker was bombarded. The orbs hit his abdomen, shoulders and lower limbs. His right leg disappeared as he dropped on the cement, blood gushing out and dyeing the cement red. However, the attack wasn't finished yet.
"Now, Saber!"
"EXCALIBUR MORGAN!" Saber shouted her Noble Phantasm and swung her sword again with force.
The ray of blood red passed across the ground and hit the Berserker. The Greek Hero let out a strained roar as the beam began to eat him alive, and then his eyes went white as Saber's attack diminished. The Servant lay motionless with all of his limbs burnt and gone.
"Whoa...we did it. Hooray." Ishtar said simply as she hovered beside Saber, who slowly approached the charred Berserker. Is he dead? The King of Knights looked down on the Servant. The Greek Hero's eyes were lifeless and dead. His flesh reeked of an awful smell. It was clear as the night above them that the Servant was dead.
"Let's go then, Ishtar. Jim needs me." Saber said as she turned around and was about to walk when she heard a soft rumble.
*ROOOAAARRR!* A loud piercing scream cut through the silent plaza. The two Servants darted their shocked eyes back at Berserker and they both saw a horrifying sight. The Servant's eyes flashed red and his flesh started to repair.
"No...Are you kidding me?!" Ishtar cursed in irate as the red beams ejected out of the cut flesh that began to regenerate at a staggering rate.
"Damn it!" Saber pointed to her sword, "Excali-! Ah!" The Berserker's newly repaired right hand grabbed and swiveled his axe-sword at her. Saber caught it with her sword and was pushed back.
The Berserker stood up, his skin flashed red and he was heaving like a monster looking for its prey. His eyes were bloodshot and filled with rage.
"Heracles...now I get it." Saber said as she remembered something regarding the Greek Hero. "He's practically immortal and invincible because of the twelve labors that he had done." And since he finished it all perfectly, the gods gave him a body that doesn't know death. The King of Knights grunted in anger. The Servant would be very difficult to kill.
"Well, I guess it's my turn. Let's see if he can handle this!" Ishtar said as she flew high together with her large bow. "Here we go, Maanna. Gate Open!" As soon as the Goddess said that, the sky above her opened up. Stars, galaxies and other celestial bodies shone brightly at Heracles, who was staring at her with his dark rueful eyes.
"Let's see if your twelve labors can handle a whole planet!" Ishtar said as she pointed her right index finger at the Servant. Suddenly, a planet loomed beyond the gate. It was Venus and it was hurling towards the Goddess. The planet then glowed in a bright golden ball before it shrunk into the size of an orb and hovered inside Ishtar's Maanna, and then it transformed into a radiating purple arrow.
"This is your end! Be crushed to death!" she declared and shouted her Noble Phantasm.
"AN GAL TA KIGAL SHE!"
The purple arrow shot forward. Heracles jumped back, trying to avoid it, but the arrow changed its trajectory and now it was hit his chest. The Berserker let out a thunderous scream as the arrow pierced right into his heart before it burst. A mushroom cloud formed above Venice as the buildings collapsed around the plaza.
Saber held her sword on the ground as a forcefield protected her from the blast that eventually died down. She looked in front and saw the head of Berserker lying on the ground. It was the only thing that remained intact. His whole body had been completely incinerated by the Goddess's Noble Phantasm.
"Well, that did the trick!" Ishtar said with a satisfied smile as Saber stared at the charred head of Berserker. "Well then, let's go to your hubby, Master Jim-"
*ROOOOAAARRR!*
"Aw come on!" Ishtar exclaimed in frustration as the Berserker's eyes lit up in red, a beam of red light ejected out of his neck which slowly transformed and regenerated the Servant's body. After several seconds, Heracles slowly stood up and huffed hot air out of his nose and mouth. He was much angrier than before and his red eyes looked right at them. Ishtar and Artoria looked back with disbelief on their faces. "How the hell…?" the Goddess exclaimed in irate while Saber only readied her sword.
"He is Heracles, the immortal and invincible Greek Hero." Hang in there Jim, the King of Knights thought while her chest felt heavy from worrying about her Master.
The heavy thud of a fist hitting the wall reverberated through the plaza where Jim and Invincible were locked in a fight. The Hero of the people threw a right hook and jabbed at the Trollhunter who raised his sword and blocked his fist. The surface trembled at each of his attacks as the boy was pushed back.
He's strong! He's strong! Jim thought in a frightened panic. He was in his troll form, which had given him enhanced strength and durability. He hadn't known how he would fare with Mark's God-like powers, and now he was getting the answer. "Gah!" Jim leapt back and only for Mark to close the distance again after thrusting forward towards him. The man jabbed his left fist, followed by his right, and then he pivoted and made a left kick, but the Trollhunter blocked it all with his magic sword.
"Your sword is annoying!" Mark screamed in anger before he bent his right leg down and kicked the boy by his feet. Jim lost his footing, only to be hit in the back by Invincible's right high kick.
"Agh!" he yelped as he felt a tremendous pain in his back. The attack had sent him high up, but Mark shot upward and elbowed him by his abdomen with his right elbow. The forceful attack had sent the Trollhunter crash diving to the ground. The cement cratered and the boy coughed up blood as he accidentally let go of his sword.
"Going up!" Mark sinisterly snarled and grabbed the boy by his neck. He flew up towards the night sky. Invincible dragged him up and up. The City of Venice below them slowly became smaller and smaller as they reached at a colossal altitude. Then he stopped and flashed his bloodshot eyes at Jim.
"Jim, we are exactly fourteen thousand feet above the sky. If you fall, you'll die. Get it?" he stated, furiously. Jim struggled to his vice like grip. He tried punching and kicking him, but the Hero didn't budge even one bit. "Once again," Mark ignored his struggles. He moved the Trollhunter's face closer and cruelly asked him again. "For the sake of peace to all life-forms...please...give up your wish, give up your friend for the sake of everyone's betterment, for my wish." The hero exhaled the words sharply, but with a hint of desperation.
I don't want to kill you. I just want you to give up and let me win the Grail! Mark hated what he was doing right now. This boy was just as innocent as him, just as desperate as him. He felt so sick of guilt and shame from hurting this boy who, just like him, was a hero to the people.
Jim shifted his blue troll eyes at Mark. The boy breathed hard but he uttered his answer. "No. Toby is a part of my world!"
Mark stared at him with deep regret in his eyes. The boy had chosen death. "Why…" He gnashed his teeth as he angrily asked. "Why do you want me to do this to you!?" Tears of sorrow and despair trailed his cheeks as Jim replied with a fearless frown.
"Because Toby is my best friend!" He opened his left hand and summoned a glaive. Then, with speed, he curved it upward.
"AAH!" Mark let out an agonizing scream as Jim slit his glaive across his right cheek and pierced his right eye. The Invincible Hero threw him and the Trollhunter let out a yelp as he began to dive back to earth.
"Whoa!" Jim exclaimed as he felt the rush of air in his blue hair. His ears were filled with rustle of the wind as he struggled to level himself up. My Excalibur. "Come to me, Excalibur!" The Trollhunter stretched his left hand to the empty space, conjuring his blade. The sword responded and it appeared on his palm. He looked down and saw that he was already near the ground. Here goes nothing! Jim, with all of his might, swung his sword. A gale of wind blew out of the blade and it caused the Trollhunter to stop his descent. The boy blinked because his head was a breath away from the road. The wind stopped and dropped him harmlessly.
"I don't...want to try sky jumping anymore." The Trollhunter groaned as he slowly sat straight up. He had landed on an empty crossroad in the middle of Venice. The boy stood up and was about to take off when he pivoted to his right and summoned his armor's shield.
"GODDAMN YOU!" Mark appeared with his face all bloody. He roared and punched the shield of the Trollhunter, sending him towards a traffic pole stoplight. Jim cried in gripe as he felt the armor on his back crack together with his bones. However, he quickly raised his shield again as the Invincible Hero charged at him with a fist raised.
"Damn you!" Mark roared as he punched the shield, which shattered upon impact. The boy, now fully exposed, gasped in horror and attempted to move back, but the Hero didn't let him. Invincible made a right uppercut and hit the boy by his chin. The Trollhunter was thrown on the road and his head hit the pavement hard. His sword fell from his hands and landed far from him.
Jim's vision blurred for a moment, he tried to move fast but he saw the Hero jumped and aimed his left foot at his head. He quickly activated his helmet only for it to shatter into pieces after Mark landed his left kick. The Trollhunter gasped as Invincible picked him up by his horns, he grunted and tried to struggle only for the man to forcefully slam him right on the pavement.
"My wounds won't close...because of your magic!" Invincible, whose face was all bloody and, with a bloody invalid right eye, ferociously rasped as he slammed the boy over and over again on the cement road. Jim's troll body was in so much pain that he couldn't find a chance to move.
"Why, why, why! Why can't you understand me, you selfish brat!?" There won't be peace between Viltrumites and humans! Evil will run rampant and I only want to eliminate everyone's ability to do evil! Mark asked in a crazy and frenzied voice as he repeatedly smacked the boy right on the ground. He then threw the Trollhunter towards a wall of a building. The body made a loud thud and a crater on the wall. Jim coughed and more blood came out of his mouth.
The Hero took several breaths and slowly approached the boy. Jim wanted to move, but he winced instead. His body was aching and screaming in pain. He wanted to escape and cry in agony, but before he could move the Hero had reached him.
"You...selfish...kid…" Mark growled like an animal. He then grabbed Jim by his horns again, lifted him up, and with all of his force, he threw him. The Trollhunter shattered a colorful glass windowpane of a cathedral that was standing on the other side of the road. The Hero vehemently breathed the cold air, smoke bellowing from his mouth, before he started walking towards the cathedral's door.
The doors of the cathedral flew out of its hinges after Mark punched it. The cathedral was silent and dark. The whole place was only lit up by candles standing by the walls and the bright full moon outside, which gave the rows of pews a translucent glow as the light passed through several colorful glass panes high above the aisle.
Then Invincible saw Jim. The Trollhunter was lying motionless between the pews, but he could see that the boy was still breathing. A pained look ran across his face as he approached him.
Mark rolled Jim and sat on top of him. The Trollhunter's face badly bruised. The boy looked so pathetic that Invincible couldn't help but feel even more remorseful for what he had done. But he must go on. The fate of this world hung with his wish.
"Jim...for the last time." Mark gnashed the words violently. He lowered his head, showing more of his maddened glare from his left eye. "Please...give up your claim to the Grail. Let me win. Let me create a utopia for the Viltrumites and the humans of this world."
The Trollhunter opened his swollen eyes slowly, his pained look reflected back on Mark's left eye, and then muttered. "No...my Toby...must live!" Jim shouted the words as the Excalibur materialized in his right hand. He swung it hard towards Invincible's neck.
But the man moved his head back and caught the sword. He pushed it down towards the boy's neck. The edges of the Excalibur were inches away from Jim's neck as he grunted and poured all of his strength into his right hand, stopping Invincible from decapitating him.
"I give you a choice! Now you shall live through your consequences!" Invincible thundered down as he pushed back the sword. He roared loud as tears of sadness poured out of Jim's eyes.
I can't hold on...The Trollhunter thought with doom. Mark was too strong for him. He could feel the blade of his own Excalibur slowly digging its way in his neck. Toby...Saber...Claire, my friends...I'm so sorry...And then with the last of his consciousness, Jim slowly let go of his sword.
"GRANDR SHOT!"
"Ah!" Mark let out a strained yelp. Something had hit his back and made him fly forward towards the altar. The Hero careened to a stop and darted his enraged left eye back to whoever shot him.
"Jim, are you ok?!" The familiar figure of Shirou stood by the door of the church. The boy must have heard him because he slowly raised his left hand and gave a thumbs up.
"Shirou, is that Mark Grayson, the Invincible?" a woman's voice said and it made the Hero glance to the left. There was another person. It was a woman and she stood right next to Shirou. The woman had the same height as the man, but she had a black long hair. Her face was sharp and alert. She was wearing a red buttoned long-sleeve shirt, long maroon pants, and shoes. Her eyes, blue green colored aqua, looked straight at him with suspicion.
Somehow the face of the girl looked exactly like Shirou's Servant, but she looked older and more mature. "Shirou-!" Mark angrily glared at Shirou for interrupting him. He almost killed the boy and won the Grail. "I will kill you next, Shirou, you lowly terrorist shit!" Invincible thundered with fury. The woman smirked in excitement.
"That's my husband you're talking about, you half-breed Viltrumite cunt." She stood in front of her husband, Shirou, as she took out a handful of gems from her pocket.
These people. Mark flashed his angry left eye at the two. He couldn't help but curse his rotten luck. He had wished to end Jim's life tonight, but now he had to deal with two more people who were against him.
"It doesn't matter...I will win this Holy Grail War!" the Hero declared with strong determination at the two.
However, another voice – a man this time – interrupted his declaration. "I'm afraid to tell you that it won't happen."
Mark glanced at the door again while Jim slowly raised his head to look at the source of another voice. A figure walked up to the ruined door of the church. The man was clothed in a red coat, a cigar was lit up on his lips and his face bore a familiar sour face.
"No…" Mark recognized him. "Lord Melon II, what are you doing here!?"
Lord El-Melloi II clicked his tongue and corrected Invincible. "It's Lord El-Melloi II! And I am here to arrest you!"
A confused and lost look formed on Mark's face. Lord El-Melloi II, the one who offered and welcomed him to the Holy Grail War, the one who enticed him with the wish granting Holy Grail, was here to arrest him. Why...? What did I do!? "What the fuck…?" he only uttered in confusion, his breath becoming heavy.
Lord El-Melloi II blew smoke from his cigarette before he pointed his index finger at the Hero and declared with authority. "Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible, you're under arrest for exposing Magecraft to the world, under the law of Secrecy of Magus Association and the Church, and endangering innocent civilians in accordance with United Nations Doctrine of Hero's Law and Order!"
