Chapter 19
Omni-Man…How on Earth did you become a Heroic Spirit? Emiya thought with a half bothered and afraid look as he stared at the Viltrumite Heroic Spirit. For a Hero to become a Heroic Spirit, the Hero's deeds and contribution in shaping humanity should have been recorded by the Ring of Deterrence, also known as the Throne of Heroes, which lay within the Root itself. The Hero's deeds should have been all about saving mankind or making them unite against a common problem.
And yet Omni-Man was here, summoned in this war, the first Viltrumite to become a Heroic Spirit. What the treacherous Viltrumite Hero did for humanity was enough for the Throne of Heroes to record his deeds. Emiya wanted to know it, but alas, he and the others must defeat Omni-Man first.
"End of the line, Omni-Man." Emiya warned as the Servant growled in an animal-like way. The group stood still for a moment, watching each other's body movements and waiting to see who would make a move first.
"I am the bone of my sword. UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS!" The Terrorist Mage moved first. He had the Servant on his sights. He didn't know how the enemy would react, but he must take the shot. Emiya raised his right hand and cast his spell to the air. Glittering dust of blue-green burst in the air. The whole cave was suddenly filled with swords, spears, battle axes, maces and hammers. All of them were pointed at the Viltrumite Heroic Spirit.
"Dodge all of this if you can!" Emiya shouted and threw his hand forward. The handheld weapons launched and zeroed on the Servant. The Heroic Spirit stood still, but his bloodshot eyes moved in alertness and switched between the approaching weapons. Omni-Man's lips curled into a threatening frown.
All of it should have pierced him-! The Terrorist Mage had aimed his attack correctly, but then his eyes widened in pure shock. Omni-Man let out a short, inhumane grunt before he pivoted his foot and spun. The Servant caught a sword with his right hand and then a mace with his left. The Treacherous Hero then swiftly curved the blades at a monstrous speed.
"I-! What-!" Emiya scowled in disbelief as Omni-Man began to dodge and parry each of the handheld weapons. Clash after clash, spark after spark, the Servant's hands swiftly hacked and deflected the barrage. His eyes were fierce. His vision caught each of the oncoming projectiles. Then the mage's magic projection ran out and the Hero stopped, throwing the weapons away as they burst into blue-green.
"Impossible...He's got weapon mastery skill!" Waver, who was still on the steps above, observed with a surprised look.
Emiya took a step back, but then Omni-Man reacted and lurched forward. The Hero closed the distance between them and raised his fist. He was going to punch Emiya, but Rin quickly threw a green gem in between Omni-Man and the Terrorist Mage. A green shield suddenly lit up and blocked the attack. An opening! "Kairi, now!"
"Yeah!" The Bounty Hunter reacted. The man leaped out of a rock behind the Viltrumite Servant, his shotgun, loaded with magical bullets, was aimed at his head. Each of these bullets are Gandr curses! You'll explode if you get hit! "Take this!" Kairi shouted and fired his shotgun. The bullet traveled at a subsonic speed. However, the Servant noticed it. In a flash, Omni-Man pivoted his foot and swung his half body to his right. His knuckle brushed the bullet, dodging it away from his head.
"What-!" Kairi landed on the ground. Disbelief flashed on his face as Omni-Man pointed his index finger at him. A single red laser beam ejected out and launched towards the Bounty Hunter. Shit! The Bounty Hunter cursed and blocked the beam with his shotgun. The red ray of light hit the body of his weapon, which made it explode into pieces. Kairi grunted as he attempted to move back. However, the Bounty Hunter blinked and gasped in shock as the Viltrumite's face appeared a breath away in front of him. "Damn-!" Kairi's curse was cut when the Servant planted his fist on his chest.
A sound of Kairi's ribs breaking apart echoed within him. The Bounty Hunter was thrown and hit his back on the wall of the cave before dropping to the ground.
"Oi!" Omni-Man then heard the voice of Emiya. The Hero turned around and was greeted by the Terrorist Mage's bow and an elegant looking sword-like arrow. "Caladbolg II, launch!" The arrow glowed in misty white aura before the Mage released it. It torpedoed forward, but its speed wasn't enough. The Servant caught it with his hand. The Viltrumite grunted in fury as the arrow died. His eyes then darted down and saw the female Mage whipping her hand to the air, throwing several green and red gems.
"Take this!" Rin shouted and casted her spells. The gems flashed and exploded into many green and red fireballs. The fireballs then homed in. Omni-Man attempted to block them, but he was too late. The attack hit him in his chest and stomach. The flames engulfed him. The Viltrumite Hero roared in agony as the fire began to eat him.
Rin made a triumphant grin. "Yes, I landed a-" But it was short lived. The flames parted and the Viltrumite Hero hovered above them. Everyone gasped in shock. Omni-Man's face was completely burned, just like the rest of his body, but a red spark flashed in his eyes. In an instant, the Hero's face repaired. His skin regenerated into pristine condition, together with his clothes.
"Are you kidding me-?" Rin was about to curse, but then she gasped in fright as the Servant flew down and zeroed towards her. The girl came face to face with the Treacherous Hero's murderous eyes, which were locked onto her together with the fist that was aimed at her head.
"Shit-!"
"Rin!" Emiya leapt to her, his hand outstretched as he cast his magic projection. A shield materialized between the girl's face and the Servant's fist. The Terrorist Mage grabbed and held the shield tightly just in time for Omni-man's fist to come in contact with its surface. The shield groaned and cracked. Both of the Mages were thrown and hit the wall of the cave. The two of them made a sharp agonizing yelp before they dropped to the ground.
Omni-Man stood still, eyeing the couple with a belittling look. The attack of the two was nothing for him, though he did feel its painful effect, which wasn't even enough to stun him. But he had enough of them. He must kill them for his Master, who told him to not let anyone enter the chamber. He took a step forward, only for a golden orb to swoosh passed him and hit the ground near his left foot.
The Viltrumite Soldier glanced up and saw the Archer Servant, who was flying above him. Twelve golden arrows were being pulled by her massive weapon and they were all aimed at him. "I won't let you hurt my Master anymore!" Ishtar said in a furor before her weapon moved. The twelve arrows ejected out and traveled towards the Servant.
Omni-Man, however, didn't move on his spot. His eyes locked on the approaching weapon, watching its trajectory, before he raised his hands and pointed his fingers at the crashing arrows. His eyes then began to radiate in red glow together with each of the tips of his fingers. Two lights burst from his eyes while each of his fingers glimmered and expelled the same rays. And then with a growl, twelve crimson lights propelled out of him. The crimson beam lurched forward and hit each of the arrows, destroying them and lighting the cave up in red.
"Tch, you blocked all of it." The Mesopotamian Goddess scowled in anger, but she wasn't done yet. Let's see if you can dodge this! "Gate open!" The gate opened and Omni-Man saw galaxies and other heavenly bodies. He saw Venus fly out and shrink inside the girl's weapon before it transformed into a large purple arrow.
"Can you dodge a planet, you lowly Viltrumite mongrel. Take this! AN GAL TA KIGAL SHE!"
Ishtar screamed wildly and launched her attack. The purple arrow, which was equivalent to a planet crashing down, hurled towards Omni-Man who remained on the spot. Heracles is dead. Omni-Man isn't a divine being. He would certainly not survive this-! the goddess thought, but then she noticed something.
Omni-Man's left fist was enveloped by a mist of aura with different colors swirling around. It looked like the man was holding a rainbow. However, that wasn't the case. What is that? Ishtar watched in puzzlement as the Viltrumite Servant raised his left fist before he swooped up, towards the crashing arrow. And then his eyes flashed the colors of rainbow before he shouted in rage.
"FIRST NOBLE PHANTASM: VILTRUMITE UMBRAL METEOR STRIKE!"
The Viltrumite howled as he pushed his left fist and punched the arrow of the Goddess. The cave rocked violently as the force of an arrow, that contained the energy of a crashing planet, came in contact with the immovable fist of Omni-Man. The whole cave was lit up in shades of rainbow colors, which began to eat the purple arrow of Ishtar. Waver, who was stuck on the stairs, looked up and was shocked to see the violent scene.
"I-Impossible! The mana around Omni-Man is being warped – no – the mana around him is being warped, absorbed and ejected out of his fist at tremendous speed!" Only a God or Goddesses can do this...but Omni-Man isn't even a divine being! The Mage sat still on the spot in awe as the rainbow completely devoured the Venus arrow of the Goddess.
"How-?! Just how!?" Ishtar hovered still with terror and denial on her face. Omni-Man was only one Servant, and yet he managed to dodge her Noble Phantasm with his own. Who was this man, other than being the betrayer of mankind?
Dammit! Ishtar blinked after she saw the Servant suddenly fly up towards her. She quickly maneuvered her Maanna up. She speedily flew away from the charging Viltrumite before she quickly pivoted her weapon and fired a volley of golden arrows.
"You're annoying!" she said angrily and fired another barrage, but the man continued rising up. The Servant moved his fist hastily and jabbed the arrows away. He keeps charging! The Goddess then swiftly dove down, trying to avoid the man. She charged head on and passed his side. Their eyes met partway. The man scowled at her. Ishtar made a quick turn and aimed her Maanna at the Viltrumite Servant. If I can't hit you from afar, then I'll shoot you at point blank range! Her weapon activated, but before it could fire, Omni-Man spun in a flash and punched her bow. The arrows exploded and a cloud of smoke enveloped the Goddess.
"What the hell!" Ishtar cursed as she flew up the clouds and looked around. The Viltrumite was nowhere in sight. "Where is he – ah!" On cue, the clouds beneath her parted and the man appeared. She attempted to move, but the Omni-Man had grabbed her by the neck. Ishtar struggled to breathe as Omni-Man tightened his hand more.
"GOING...UP!" He spoke with a vicious and merciless voice. The Viltrumite then moved and slammed the Goddess into the wall of the cave. Then he thrusted up and started dragging her back, scalding her skin in the process. Ishtar screamed in anguish as Omni-Man increased his speed and eventually reached the landing on top.
"NOW...GOING DOWN!" he said as he let her go and delivered a roundhouse kick. His foot smacked the top of her head with so much force that it sent the Goddess down to the ground below.
Ishtar smashed on the ground and lay still in her own crater. The Goddess was in a horrible condition. Her head was bleeding and she could feel nothing but scorching ache all over her body. She could feel that her back was broken as she panted hard for air. "I...I don't get it...why is he so strong!?" Ishtar asked in dissent.
Emiya, still on top of Rin, slowly looked at him. An aching look formed on his face as he looked for his Servant. "Ishtar, are you ok?"
"No." the Goddess answered painfully as she looked up and saw
Waver looking down at them with a worried face. "Are you alright down there!?" he asked as everyone groaned in agony. They're not! "I'm coming down there-" the Mage said and was about to move when his eyes caught a spark above him. He looked up and froze in his spot as his eyes widened in shock. "What...is that?"
The Mage stared at the dark void above him. Gobs of colors lit up the whole cave and below. The colors were so beautiful to a normal person, but to Waver and the rest of the gang, it was horrifying.
The rainbow of lights was coming from the glowing right leg of Omni-Man. The man was flying towards them and his right leg was pulled on his back while his eyes, flashing in a myriad of different colors, were locked on them.
"Oh...my...fuck…!" Emiya cursed in fright as he realized what the light on the Servant meant. Ishtar also saw the incoming attack and the Goddess frowned in strong disbelief. Waver, from his spot, observed with terrified scowl on his face.
"Another Noble Phantasm-and its power is almost infinite!" It's enough to destroy this planet! The mage analyzed. The crashing Viltrumite howled while he casted his Noble Phantasm.
"SECOND NOBLE PHANTASM: VILTRUMITE UMBRAL COMET STRIKE!"
Omni-Man howled maddeningly as he swung his right leg forward. The beam of rainbow lights launched out of his right leg and hurled towards the downed group. Fuck...Emiya thought and glanced at Rin. The girl was also staring at the incoming rays of light, but a resigned look was on her face. "I'm sorry, Rin." Looks like we're up. The Terrorist Mage thought with sadness as he tried to move his arm so that he could push her away from the Viltrumite's attack, but his body panged achingly. A forsaken smile formed on his face. It was all clear for him that he and his wife would die today. "I'm sorry you too, Jim…" Emiya was planning to help Jim after he defeated the Servant, but that wouldn't happen anymore. He muttered in disappointment and closed his eyes.
"ZASHU! Gate of Babylon, open!"
A deep yet resounding voice – a man's – suddenly echoed through the cave. The voice had made Emiya open his eyes in shock. The rainbow beam was gone and in its place was gold.
"Wh-what the-!" The Terrorist Mage lay still in astonishment as chains, glowing in gold, were now scattered around the cave. The chains extended from the golden portals that lit up the wall, and were wrapped around the Viltrumite.
Omni-Man was still in the air, but the chains were tied around his limbs and neck. A furious, disgruntled and startled look formed on his face.
"What is this…!?" Waver was also amazed with the sudden appearance of the chains, and yet he felt that he had seen it before.
"Heh, so I arrived in the nick of time.'' the same voice again spooked him, but this time, Waver heard it clearly because it came from beside him. The mage turned and finally he saw the owner of the voice. A handsome man stood away from him. He possessed golden hair and red flaming eyes. He was half-naked, his lower body clothed in a golden armor and a red cloth that softly rustled behind him. His chest, well-toned and beautiful, was adorned with red tattoos that seemed to be glowing and in contrast to his milky white skin.
It can't be...You're here. Waver recognized the man. He had met him back in the fourth Holy Grail War. "King Gilgamesh!"
The man, whose name is Gilgamesh, glanced at him, a dull look forming on his face.
King Gilgamesh was the ancient king of Uruk during the Mesopotamian Era. His city had been one of the richest at that time with glorious and notable history. He was also the main hero of the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the first recorded literature in the entire history of the world, and he was also the first recorded Hero in the history of mankind.
"I'll ignore your ignorant voice since you're kneeling on the ground." Gilgamesh said, deadpanned, before he glanced down. His red eyes noted the others, but then his face lit up in amusement after he recognized the Goddess Ishtar, who was still lying in her own crater, and her bloody face. "Hoho, Ishtar! Glad to see you again. Your current pathetic state looks better on you."
Ishtar slowly shifted her head and glared angrily at the Golden King of Uruk. "By the Gods...any Servant but you." she said in a downed and disappointed manner, making the king chuckle uncaringly. He then looked away and noticed the white-haired Terrorist Mage and the glowing tattoo on his right hand.
"Ooh, are you her Master? I do hope she wasn't completely useless to you."
Gilgamesh...Emiya made a dark frown as he recognized the new Servant. Gilgamesh was also a Servant back in the fifth Holy Grail War, which the Terrorist Mage had defeated personally after he attacked his King Artoria, the pure version, who was his Servant before. To see him here right now made Emiya feel ire and awkward.
*RAAAAGHH!*
Omni-Man howled madly after he discovered that Gilgamesh was the one who had summoned the chains. He wanted to attack the King, but the couplings held him more.
Finally, the King slowly shifted his crimson eyes at him. His face made a disapproving frown after he observed the menacing face of the Viltrumite. "So, you're Omni-Man, the Viltrumite who betrayed mankind." he said, his voice cold and mocking. He stared at the strange alien, who was once a foot soldier of a conquering planet nation of the Viltrumite Empire.
He could see the almost invincible power of the Servant. His mana was almost endless.
But to Gilgamesh, it was completely worthless and nothing. "You Viltrumites had once attempted to take over this planet." he said as a golden portal glowed over his shoulder. "This planet, Earth, is my garden. The people, though most are incorrigible, are my flock." Several similar portals started to manifest in this air, almost illuminating the cave and it made the Viltrumite's frown slowly shift into a terrified one.
"And then you and your kind have the guts to terrorize my flock, trample and usurp the flowers and bounty of my Earth." Gilgamesh's voice slowly turned from cold to furious and fiery as the portals behind him opened up. Swords, daggers, maces and other handheld weapons slowly emerged from within the light. Omni-man watched as hundreds of them materialized and he knew what would happen next. He started lashing out violently as fear settled inside his chest, but the chains fought back and tightened around his neck.
"But I, King Gilgamesh the King of Heroes, applaud you for your audacity," Gilgamesh smirked unkindly as he raised his hand, "Now I shall enjoy your futile screams. Gate of Babylon, launch!" The King of Heroes threw his hand. The golden portals whirled and zapped the weapons within.
Omni-Man winced as the first barrage homed in. The first batch hit his chest, claymore swords and daggers plunging on his dirty white costume, which slowly turned red. They were followed by spears and battle axes, which buried right into his stomach. The Viltrumite Hero howled in anguish, pain erupted everywhere on his body and blood vomited out of his mouth. However, it was cut after Gilgamesh summoned another volley of weapons. This time, they zeroed into his right leg.
Daggers, spears and battleaxes pierced through his right lower limb until it detached from his body. Omni-Man only screamed in agony and the King of Heroes smirked in pleasure. Gilgamesh loved that the Viltrumite was still alive and feeling the pain that he inflicted on him.
"There's more!" Gilgamesh rasped as he threw his hand again. The golden portals opened fire and bombard the Viltrumite again.
The Servant winced as his body twinged and then he gasped sharply as a hammer smashed right through his left knee, smacking his left leg away, and then an axe-sword planted its blade right into his left elbow, its edge cutting his left hand completely. Omni-Man gnashed his teeth agonizingly before the attack stopped.
"Hoh, you're still alive. Interesting. Viltrumites have really sturdy bodies!" Gilgamesh laughed heartily in amazement as Omni-Man coughed up more blood and he gasped for air. Sparks were flying from his cut and injured body parts as his skills of regeneration activated and tried to heal him.
"That's no good, Omni-Man. The Chains of Heaven prevents every divine being from being cured." the King of Heroes explained heartlessly as a golden portal appeared over his hand. Gilgamesh then pulled out a weapon that began to spark red. The weapon was an elegant stick. Its blade didn't have edges, but three segmented cylinders.
"I applaud you, alien parasite, for trying to keep yourself alive." The cylinders of his sword whirled to life, glitter of red started to zap out of it as warm air began to build up from within.
"But this is where we must part. You've entertained me enough." Gilgamesh said as he looked down on Omni-Man, whose eyes slowly looked towards him, his face contracting into an anguished frown.
"Witness the star of creation that split Heaven and Earth, mongrel!" The King held the sword and pointed it at Omni-Man. And then, with authority in his voice, he shouted his Noble Phantasm,
"ENUMA ELISH!"
The weapon's tip sparked sharply and then a flashing beam ejected out. Omni-Man howled in misery as the sword of rupture scorched him. The beam burst into his abdomen. His clothes burnt and it was followed by the skin and muscles underneath. The attack eventually enveloped his whole lower body and the poor Viltrumite couldn't do anything except to scream more in despair.
Omni-Man looked up to his attacker, the King of Heroes. A look of sorrowful recognition formed on his face as he stared at the King's merciless eyes. The golden man's look bore a strong resemblance to another leader, an emperor that he knew too well. But before he could remember the name of that said Emperor, the attack stopped and Omni-Man felt nothing but absolute peace.
The attack only lasted for seconds, but to Emiya, it felt like forever. After the beam died down completely, the chains made a loud rattle as they snapped back inside the golden portal. The Terrorist Mage watched as the Viltrumite Servant's body went still. The Servant's body dropped to the ground and made a soft thud. That attack should've killed him. Emiya thought as he slowly stood up and mentally groaned under his weight.
Emiya walked at a slow pace towards Omni-Man. His brows were knitted and his eyes were alert in case the Servant attacked him. Finally, he reached Omni-Man and saw his current state. The Viltrumite man was charred. His entire lower body was gone. A burnt smell smoked out of the torched flesh. However, he shifted his grey eyes towards the face. The eyes of the Pretender Servant were open, but they were no longer bloodshot and vicious. A look of regret and misery was on Omni-Man's face. Emiya could tell that he was still in pain. Th Mage softly gasped in surprise after he saw a single tear trailed under Omni-Man's eye. It was the first sign of the Viltrumite's humanity, proof that he too could feel emotions.
And then the mage saw the Servant's mouth move.
"What?" Emiya asked as he kneeled and brought his ear to his scarred lips. The Servant spoke but his voice was no longer rough and rasp; it was a soft and gentle.
"P-Please…" Omni-Man stuttered weakly before he whispered more, "Save him...save...Mark-my son...his wish...is wrong."
The Terrorist mage's eyes widened in shock. Sadness weighted heavily on his chest. Ever since the whole world learned of Omni-Man's betrayal, Emiya knew nothing of the Viltrumite other than him being a foot soldier of a conquering nation and a heartless and mindless beast. However, Omni-Man's last words had changed everything he knew of this Servant. Omni-Man cared for Mark, his son, greatly.
"I think-" Emiya was about to answer him, but the Viltrumite began to glow gold before bursting into glittering dust. No...If there's still a chance...I will. Emiya thought gravely as a single tear poured out of his eye. "I will save him." he whispered to the Servant, hoping that the fallen could still hear him.
Omni-Man was finally dead.
"Hmph, he barely put up a fight. Though I have to admit, I'm impressed with his sturdy body." Gilgamesh spoked with an unsympathetic voice beside Waver on the stairs, making the Mage cast a glare at him. Ishtar, on the other hand, slowly lifted herself up from the ground and limply walked towards Emiya, who was still kneeling on the ground.
"Emiya," Ishtar called. The Terrorist Mage looked up at her, a conflicting frown displayed on his face. The Goddess was puzzled by his reaction, but before she could ask, the whole cave suddenly shook violently.
"What was that?!" Rin, whose senses were slowly returning, darted her aqua eyes to the door. The large dual doors sparked as its magical lock suddenly went dead.
"The locks are dead…" Emiya observed and then he remembered the other team member who went ahead. Jim, the Trollhunter, was on the other side of the door. A panicked look formed on his face.
"Jim!" Emiya shouted as he ran and slammed his whole body on the door. The ancient dual door made a loud creak, its hinges moving as the man put in more of his weight. And then the doors suddenly gave way, a gust of wind filled the staircase cave and all of it was being redirected inside the workshop.
The Terrorist Mage struggled as he held onto the door frame and looked up. Emiya saw the massive pillars of the Einzbern workshop. His eyes taking note of the whole surrounding until he saw the altar and the motionless puppet body of Illyasviel von Einzbern II. Emiya, however, noticed something else. He glanced up and his eyes widened in horror.
A circular band of blue light was hovering above the altar, near the stone ceiling of the workshop. Its middle was nothing but an endless black void. The air around it was swirling violently as the void sucked it all. The whole scene was so familiar to him. Emiya knew what was happening.
"Emiya!" Rin said as she held onto his back. She looked forward and a similar reaction formed on her face. "Emiya, we're too late." she said in a doomed manner. "The Holy Grail...has been activated!"
"I know!" Emiya, however, noticed something else, and it alarmed him greatly. Other than the Grail, the room was empty. There was no sign of Mark, the Invincible Hero, or Jim, the Trollhunter.
