"So Klaus had Stefan flip the switch and Rebekah moved in huh?" I said over the phone as I walked over to my car.
"Yep, just what I needed. My ripper of a baby brother and barbie Klaus." Damon said in a snarky tone.
I let out a chuckle, "Well I wish I could help you Damon, but my hands are tied." I said as I got into my car.
"Doing what? Catching up with old friends that you didn't see during your little field trip with Klaus?" I rolled my eyes.
"No, believe it or not but I don't trust Klaus keeping his nose clean while he's away. He's probably making a Hybrid army as we speak." I informed.
"Are you tracking him?"
"Klaus isn't the only one with friends that can track people down." I said, as I strapped my seatbelt on.
"Klaus has been running for over a thousand years to escape this Mikael guy. The guy knows how to run. How can your friends track a guy who doesn't want to be found?"
"Oh I didn't mean tracking Klaus. I meant tracking down Werewolves. Where there's a pack, Klaus will be there to turn them into Hybrids." I stated and turned on my car.
"Ooh, nice thinking. I'll let you get to work." With that Damon hung up and I backed my car out.
I rang the doorbell and waited patiently. I heard footsteps and then the door opened. I smiled seeing Carol standing there.
"Allye, I didn't know you were back in town." Carol said with a smile on her face.
I shrugged, "I had a little summer vacation of my own. Now, I've been told that you finally found out about the Lockwood's little secret." I said smiling while Carol's face dropped.
"How did you-"
"The Hale's were close to the Lockwood's for a reason, Carol. We share a similar family secret." I said as my eyes glowed red.
Carol gasped while my grin grew bigger, "Come in." Carol said opening the door wider.
My eyes returned to their normal emerald green, "Thank you, Carol." I said and walked in.
Once Carol closed the door, she started with her questions.
"The Hale's are Werewolves too?" Carol asked.
I turned around to face her, "We're a different kind of species. We can turn at will while they're controlled by the full moon. Now I know Richard was keeping track of any Werewolf families or packs. I need those records." I asked, getting to the point.
Carol was at a loss for words, "Uh, I have some of his files in my office."
She went to walk away but I stopped her, "He wouldn't have put them where anybody could find it. You're part of the founding families and like all founding families, you have some secret hiding places." I retorted.
Carol nodded her head, "I'll go ahead and check." I let her go passed me and she went up the stairs.
Minutes later she came back down with huge folder, "This is all I could find." Carol said and handed the folder over.
I nodded my head, "Thank you." I grabbed the folder and went to leave.
"May I ask, why you need that?" I stopped in my tracks.
"Let's just say I'm keeping tabs on an old friend." I said turning my head to smile then once again leaving.
I was in Derek's old room that I had later turned into a study. I had a map of the US on the wall. There were blue taks all over the map in locations where werewolf packs resided. There was more than I thought there would be. But they were everywhere, from Seattle to New York City. It looks like their species was making a recovery after almost being wiped out centuries before.
I was still going through Richard Lockwood's files. He kept information on several Werewolf sightings and locations. There was even a file that was labeled "Hale". He was keeping tabs on my family too.
I furrowed my eyebrows and out of curiosity I flipped open the file. I swallow hard as the first thing in the file was a newspaper clipping about the Hale House fire. I took a deep breath before looking further into the folder. I saw notes scribbled down in Richard's handwriting. One the piece of paper it said:
Seattle
Las Vegas
New Orleans*
Chicago
New York City
These were all of the cities that Derek, Laura, and I traveled to. He was keeping tabs on us the entire time we were running. But why did New Orleans have a star on it? What made that city different from the others?
I was snapped out of my thoughts as my phone went off. The caller ID read Damon.
"Hey, what's up Damon?" I asked as I jotted down notes on a sticky note.
"Hey, head down to Alaric's classroom. We're having a little meeting."
"Alright, I'll be there in a few minutes." I said and hung up.
I took a take and pinned the note onto the wall and placed the sticky by it that read "Important: New Orleans. Why?" I took one last look at everything before heading out.
"Hey, sorry I'm la-" I stopped seeing Tyler collapsed on the ground.
I furrowed my eyebrows and pointed at Tyler, "What happened?" I asked confused.
"We just found out that our Hybrid friend here is sired to Klaus." Damon informed.
I rose an eyebrow and crossed my arms. Damon rolled his eyes, "It means he feels loyal to Klaus since it was his blood that changed him."
"How loyal are we talking here?" I questioned.
"He'll be seeking acceptance from his master. It's supposed to be rare, but it's probably different for Hybrids." Damon informed.
"So how do I fix him?" Caroline asked as she knelt next to Tyler.
"Get a new boyfriend." If Tyler is sired to Klaus because he's a Hybrid then...oh boy. This just went from bad to worse real quick.
"So, is someone gonna fill me in on the plan?" I asked, looking around.
"We're gonna lure Stefan during the bon fire and capture him. We need to try and get him to flip his switch back on." Elena answered.
"Okay, what do you need me to do?"
"You hung out with Klaus all summer. I'm sure you can distract his sister, Rebekah." Damon stated.
"The only Rebekah I have met so far is the daggered in a coffin one. I wasn't there when she woke up, she doesn't know who I am." I argued.
"Actually, she does. I think Klaus told her because she asked me about you today." Elena retorted.
"What did she want?"
"She only said she wanted to meet the Werewolf that her brother was so smitten for."
I took a deep breath before nodding, "Alright, I'll talk to Rebekah."
"Alright then, let's go to that bon fire. I'll drive." Damon said smirking.
After we arrived to the bon fire we all dispersed to make ourselves blend. I walked over to one of the coolers and pulled out a beer. I pulled the top off with my hand and took a swig.
"Allye Hale, right?" I turned around and saw Rebekah standing there in this centuries clothing and less gray looking.
I let out a tight smile, "Rebekah, gotta say...You look much better without the gray skin." I said as I took another drink.
Rebekah let out a tight smile of her own, "I can see why my brother likes you. You're a proud female Alpha, meaning you challenge Nik constantly. You got him all riled up back in Chicago, you know." Rebekah informed as she grabbed a beer bottle of her own.
"Oh I know, his angry voicemails told me that." I said and took another swig.
Rebekah cracked the top off her bottle, "Yes, I heard him leave every single one. That's when I knew that it took a very special person to get that type of rise out of him. Nik was furious at you but also concerned. I couldn't figure out why until I found out that he fancies you."
I remained silent and Rebekah let out a sigh, "You're the first woman I've met that has been able to challenge Nik and get away without a scratch. My brother really does care for you, and because of that I want to try and be friends." Rebekah said and held out her hand.
I let out a small smile and shook her hand, "Sure, friends." Talk about deja vu.
"Oh and before I forget. I found this in my luggage earlier." She held out a long black velvet box with a bow tied to it and a letter.
"Nik left me a note telling me to give it to you." I took the box and the letter out of her hand.
"Thanks, Rebekah." She nodded before turning around and leaving.
I finished the bottle of beer before throwing it in the trash can. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Elena leave and Stefan following her. The plan was working. I turned to look at Rebekah and saw her talking to some girls.
I looked down at the box and then the letter. On the front of the envelope read "Allye Hale" in elegant cursive handwriting. With one hand, I opened the envelope and it was a short letter from Klaus.
It's not just another day. It's celebrating the day you came into this world. You should start celebrating it again. If you don't then I will. Happy Birthday, Allye.
Fondly,
Klaus
I then opened the box to reveal a silver necklace with a crescent moon charm and attached in the middle was my birthstone. He must have gotten me this when we were still in Chicago. I took out the necklace and put it around my neck.
I let out a sigh before throwing away the box and letter. Just when I start to hate him, he does something like this that makes me question why I should hate him.
Against my better judgment, I took my phone out and sent a text to Klaus.
Thanks for the necklace.
-Allye
I locked my phone after I sent it. He was probably still pissed at me and wouldn't reply.
Once I sent the text, I started to make my long trek back home. Damon drove us here so I didn't have my car to get back. Looks like I'm taking the scenic route.
As I walked through the forest, my mind kept going back on why Richard was so interested in New Orleans. Sure it was a supernatural hot spot for Witches, Werewolves, and Vampires alike but why would Richard be concerned about another city's supernatural problems? It just didn't add up. There was something going on that went deeper.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when my phone went off. I took out of my pocket and saw Damon was calling me.
"Hey Damon, how'd it go?" I asked.
"Not good, something freaky happen to Elena. Alaric's car suddenly went up in flames when Elena and Stefan were inside."
"Are they okay?" I asked as I stopped in my tracks.
"Yeah, they're fine, but now I don't think we're gonna be able to catch Stefan off guard again."
"Sadly, that was a hit or miss plan and we got a miss." I said and started to walk again.
"Looks like it's back to the drawing board."
"Looks like it. I'll see you later Damon." I hung up and just as I was about to put my phone back in my pocket, it buzzed.
I expected it to be Damon, but I froze reading that it was a text back from Klaus.
You're welcome, love. I just wish I could see you wearing it right now.
-Klaus.
I bit the inside of my cheek as I kept reading the text over and over again. Why did the simple kind gestures that he rarely shows always make me get that feeling in my chest? Klaus was the bad guy, I couldn't be falling for the bad guy. He hurt my friends and he's killed a lot of people.
I leaned back against a tree and slid to the ground. How could I be falling for someone like him? I shouldn't be...But I am. I rubbed my face with my hands before looking up at the night sky.
"I don't know what to do Laura. I'm at a crossroads and I don't know what to pick. My friends or my heart? God, I wish you were here." I muttered.
I let out a sigh and stood back up and continued making my way back home.
Last one for tonight. I think this is the longest chapter I did on this story. I had an idea to include a little nod to The Originals in this. Richard Lockwood was keeping an eye on Werewolf packs around the states. Especially in New Orleans. And what's this? Allye's starting to get feelings she can't explain for Klaus? We are seeing another change in our girl again.
