"Sidle."
"Hey, it's me."
She froze, "Hey, uh, hi."
"Are you alone?"
"No, I'm at the lab. Um, give me a sec."
He heard a door close and wondered what room she had slipped into.
"Okay, I am alone. What's up?"
He rarely called when she was working and he was off. They knew limited communication when one was at the lab would work best to keep their secret. So far, no one had suspected they were together. At least, no one had said anything. She had heard a comment from one of the lab techs about Grissom leaving on time and not staying in his office for hours after shift, but nothing to indicate their secret was out. That is how she liked it. That is how they liked it.
"I was just wondering what you did to my dog, Sara?"
She instantly smiled and sat in the office chair behind the desk. She knew Grissom's dog was fine. Probably not used to the kinds of work outs she did. "I took him on a run with me before shift. You were still asleep and I wanted to get in a run before work. He was whining at me and giving me puppy dog eyes when I was getting ready so I grabbed his leash.
"Why, what is he doing?" she inquired.
"He is dead asleep in his bed and won't even get up for a treat," replied Grissom. "I knew you took him with but I didn't know how far you two went." She had been on walks with Hank and Grissom and knew the longer ones always resulted in a couple ice cubes or biscuits as a treat for good walks.
"Oh, we did about 5 miles or so. He kept pulling but I had to turn around and get back to get ready for work."
"That is impressive for him."
"Sounds like I wore him out," Sara said with a smirk on her face.
"He's not the only one," he replied.
That made her blush.
When she returned to Grissom's place, she had made sure Hank had a full water bowl and threw in a couple ice cubes as a treat to make sure he drank some water. She then made her way to the bedroom. Grissom was still asleep, having stayed a bit later at the lab doing paperwork and even bringing some home. He had the luxury of doing paperwork at home and not having to go into the lab. He had crawled into bed and made sure to kiss her cheek to let her know he was there. As soon has he had gotten comfortable under the covers, she had rolled over and put an arm around his chest. Her head came to rest on his shoulder and she took a deep breath in. He heard her mumble something but could not figure out what she had said. He had kissed her head and fell asleep with her next to him.
Being able to see him so comfortable and relaxed, let alone being allowed in his bedroom, made her smile. She had grabbed her bag and quietly made her way into the bathroom. She had worked up a sweat and even if it was closer to people's bedtimes, it was still hot outside. She needed a shower. She peeled off her work out clothes and set them in a pile next to her bag. She reached into the shower and turned on the water to a nice temperature.
While it was heating up, she peered at her reflection in the mirror. She looked happy. She was very happy and the endorphins from the workout were not the reason. Where she was, who was in the other room was the reason. She knew they would be good together. She knew he played it off as her being young and him being someone she looked up to. He later realized she was right. They were very good together. They had similar interests but still had their own hobbies. They both loved to read and learn. They talked about their past and both were hopeful for their future.
Her musing were interrupted by soft kisses being placed on her shoulder. She didn't even hear or see him come in.
"Did you have a good run?" Grissom asked between kisses. "It looks like your shower is ready."
"A good run. Want to join me?" she asked knowing full well that he would.
As she looked in the mirror, his smile matched hers. He pulled off his remaining clothes and followed her in.
She smiled at the very recent memory and felt the nice soreness that came from the shower as well.
"Are you going to come over after shift?" he gently inquired.
"I can't. Remember I have to be at my apartment for the maintenance people. I need to be there," she responded wistfully.
He proposed a counter offer: "Come over after that. I would like to continue what we were doing in the shower earlier." She could tell he was smiling. She was smiling too.
"Okay, I will. You better have breakfast for me, though."
"That I can handle. Where did you duck into when I first called anyway? You said you are at the lab." His curiosity was piqued.
She knew her response would have an effect on him. "Your office. I was just leaving the break room and then you called. Ducked in here and I am in your chair."
She would swear on her life that she heard the hitch in his breath. She knew anything to do with her had an effect on him, but her being alone in his office while reminiscing about "wearing him out" would definitely make him want her more.
"Definitely not the first time someone in that chair has had thoughts about you wearing them out," he told her when he finally regained composure of is wandering mind.
The blush had not gone away after his first comment and had been amplified due to what he just told her.
The knock at the door startled her. "Cath is looking for me. I gotta go, bye!" And with that she ended the call. She waved at Catherine through the door as she stood from the chair.
"Hey, there you are. Doc Robbins is done with the autopsy and sent some samples to trace. What are you doing in Grissom's office?"
"Oh, I got a call from my apartment building about maintenance coming after shift," she replied quickly.
"They call you at 3am?" Catherine wondered out loud.
"They like having a cop in the building even though I am not actually a cop so they accommodate me for this stuff. The company has a bunch of buildings and maintenance people available 24/7 so they know to call me at this time," Sara said hoping it would convince her curious coworker.
"Oh, that is nice. Anyway, DNA came back and the results are ready for us. You coming?"
"In a minute, I need to leave a note for Griss while I remember."
"Okay, see you in a few," and with that Catherine left the office.
Sara picked up a pen and found the note pad in the first drawer. She was hoping only he would find it later and not have anyone else see it. 'And just how long have you been thinking about me wearing you out while you sit in this chair, Gilbert?'
