A/N: I apologize for the late update (online classes have been tough and not being able to leave the house and socialize have taken a toll on me). And also sorry for the lack of action in this chapter. This episode in TO was heavily centered on Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah but because of that I also get to have fun with Cassandra a bit ;)
P/S: I hope anyone who reads this is well, and protected from Covid-19 and the negative effects of this pandemic. God bless.
Chapter 19: Farewell to Storyville
New Orleans, 1919
Cassandra struggled to run after being injured with the white oak stake; her weights were mostly being supported by Elijah's strength. She clung to him tightly, terrified of their fate.
"The final act of Le Grand Guignol is upon us! Where are my players? Enough running, children! Step out of the shadows so we can finish this tale of sorrows." She heard Mikael shouted, almost in glee. This man made her sick in the stomach.
"He's coming," Elijah said, releasing his grip from her. He ripped a fence from the sidewalk, forming a weapon.
"Elijah," she whispered shakily, traumatized with what had happened. Elijah took her in his embrace, kissing her hair and cheeks to comfort her.
"It'll be alright," he said to her, and despite knowing it was only a false hope, she felt slightly calmer at his words. Centuries of running and separated from the love of her life, only to end with them running for their lives. The irony. She couldn't even bear the thought of being separated from Elijah, not after feeling perfectly content and blissful for half a century with him. It was heaven, she supposed, even if it was temporary.
"I love you," she said, pulling him close and he pressed his forehead against hers before capturing her lips. He stilled for a moment, wanting to imprint the way her warmth felt against him in his mind. Elijah swallowed, regaining his focus of the danger that was nearing them.
"The three of you must flee the city. I'll hold him off, Niklaus," he said and Cassandra protested but he wouldn't hear her.
"No. We fight him together," Niklaus said determinedly.
"We cannot fight him!" Elijah raised his voice desperately. "All we can do is do what we've done. We deceive him. We lead him astray. Now, I can do that as well as anyone. You take our sister and my wife far away from here. I'll follow you," Elijah said and Cassandra grabbed his chin, turning his face so he would look at her.
"No, I will not leave you with that monster!" she said. She heard Rebekah protested as well, but Elijah ignored both of them, only keeping his gaze fixed at his brother.
"Niklaus, swear to me you will protect her as you protect me," Elijah said firmly, unable to look at her face. Cassandra didn't bother of his reply; what good was she being safe without Elijah? She fell to her knees, sobbing, when Elijah left her side to bid Rebekah farewell. This was the ending to her fairytale.
"My love, you will do as my brother says. I will see you again," he said, and she shook her head, not wanting to leave him. He shrugged her grip off and she felt Niklaus's hand on her arm, pulling her to her feet.
"You must leave. Now. Go!"
Elijah's voice rang in my ears as I slowly awakened from the memory; my heart was beating too fast. I watched the smoke rose from the burnt out fireplace, the scene of the Opera House burning still etched in my mind. I rolled to my side, the faux fur rug tickling my skin and I found myself smiling at the sight of Kol sleeping.
"Wake up. We have a Mikaelson to save," I said, stroking his hair, and he stirred in his sleep. He pulled me closer instead, eyes still closed, pressing his lips sleepily against my hair.
"Come on, darling. It's not always we have such privacy," he mumbled, and I laughed a little. We took the opportunity to s leep in the parlor instead of our room, since the rest of the Mikaelsons were trapped in the cemetery.
"It is rather peaceful without your three siblings with gifted vampire hearing around," I said, sitting up and stretching my arms, glancing around the living room. The house was silent from the normal banter and casual insults this family like to throw at each other over breakfast, and it was rather strange. Still, it was peaceful, just the two of us. "Do you think they are okay?"
"Nik would not kill Rebekah. She was his favorite," Kol replied.
"You didn't see him yesterday. He was so hurt and angry," I said.
"He'll get over it, love," Kol reassured me and I reluctantly met his eyes.
"Yesterday, Klaus asked me. If I would forgive what my siblings did to you. To us. And God knows I'd have torn them apart if Bonnie hadn't trapped me in that living room," I said.
Kol was silent for a minute at my confession. We rarely brought up the events circulating his death, because it was too painful for the two of us. "And you wouldn't regret it?"
"I don't know," I admitted honestly.
"I'd not have let you kill your siblings, anyway," he said to my surprise and I raised an eyebrow at his statement.
"Really? Is Kol Mikaelson more forgiving than I am?" I asked teasingly.
"Both of us know you enjoy the games more than the killing," he said, smirking slightly. I held my breath when his hand traced the inner of my thigh, before gathering some willpower to push them away.
"Come on, we have to go," I said, searching for my phone in between the pillows that we'd laid around. Kol groaned before plopping back down onto the rug, closing his eyes once again. "Our phone is being blown up by literally everyone," I said, as I scrolled down the text messages. "Rebekah's still alive and…Marcel asked us to go to the church."
"It's not Sunday," Kol replied lazily to which I rolled my eyes at.
"Davina's awake. We should check up on her," I said.
"What about you?" he asked and I shrugged. Cassandra's fragments of memories still burned in my mind, but it didn't feel like I was losing my mind like yesterday.
"Better than yesterday. Maybe you're right. With Celeste and Astrid gone, the spell has died down," I said, ignoring Kol's burning gaze on me. He was probably reading me to see if I was lying or not.
"We still have to make sure you're alright," he said, still frowning.
"If I start forgetting who you are, you're just gonna have to remind me again," I said, steering the subject into something more fun. Kol raised his eyebrow at my playful smile, that widened when I caught the glint of mischief in his eyes. I yelped, when he suddenly pulled me towards him and flipping us over, his hands pinning mine to the floor.
"Hmm, how do I do that?" he asked, his voice dropping an octave. I shivered, my mind going crazy when I felt his hot breath against my neck.
"We have to go-" I stopped midsentence, not able to form a coherent thought with his lips on my neck.
"What was that?" he asked innocently. I could feel his smirk against my neck when my body arched into him, wanting more. He removed his lips from my neck, taking a moment to look at me and I smiled.
"Fuck it. The rest of the world can wait," I said with a smirk, before meeting him halfway into a passionate kiss.
St. Anne's Church
"What took you so long?" Marcel asked hastily as Kol and I entered the church.
"We had the house to ourselves," I said and Marcel gave us a dirty look.
"So you-" Marcel shook his head, unable to finish his sentence. "You two can't wait until all of this is over?"
"Watch your tone, flea. If it wasn't for my sister, you'd be dead by now," Kol hissed.
"Where's Davina?" I asked, taking Kol's hand in mine to calm him down.
"She's upstairs with Cami," he replied and ignored the amusement in our faces.
"You think a therapy session can help her?" Kol asked.
"You've got a better idea?" Marcel snarled but we were interrupted with Davina's yelling from the attic.
"How do I even know who to trust? Should I trust Marcel? The first thing he did when I came back was try to use me again to help Rebekah!"
"You should start finding another witch to lower that barrier," I told Marcel curtly before leaving the men to talk to Davina.
"What can you do? When I came back, the voices I heard, they said the only ones who could help me are the witches The witches hate me for what I did to them. Tell me, Cami, how can I go back and ask for their help now?"
Cami looked defeated, not having any answers for the girl. Davina however, was a mixed of frustration, anger and fear. She looked exactly as when I first met her; the night we saved her from being sacrificed for the Harvest. I knocked on the door of the attic, and Cami seemed relieved upon noticing me.
"Hey D."
"Vanessa," she said softly and I opened my arms, not wanting to barge into her personal space. She ran and hugged me, and I sighed in relief, returning her hug.
"I know you must be overwhelmed…and none of us is helping with that," I said.
"I'll give you some space," Cami said, before leaving.
"How are you?" I asked, although it was a stupid question.
"It was horrible," she said shakily. Tears started to well in her eyes as she looked at me. "They were so angry at me, Nessie. I betrayed my own kind…Their wrath burned me inside out. And the voices-"
"It's okay," I shushed her, pulling her into another hug. "Kol's here too, if you want to talk to him. He…understands these things more than I do."
"I can't help Marcel, Vanessa. The ancestors warned me-"
"Hey, it's okay. It's okay, D. You don't have to do anything you don't want to, okay? We're here to make sure you're okay," I reassured her and her shoulders relaxed. "I'll go and get Kol, okay?"
She nodded and I squeezed her shoulder before heading back downstairs. Cami and Marcel were nowhere in sight, and Kol was sitting in one of the benches, lost in thoughts.
"Where's everyone?" I asked.
"Cami was too uncomfortable to be alone with me so she went out to get some food for Davina, and Marcel went to see Genevieve."
"To ask for her help?" I asked and Kol shrugged.
"He was getting desperate," he replied nonchalantly. "How's Davina?"
"She's a bit traumatic…and terrified. Can you talk to her?" I asked and Kol raised an eyebrow at me.
"I'm not a therapist, darling," he replied and I rolled my eyes.
"I mean about you know…magic and stuff," I said.
"Stuff? As in being dead?" he questioned and I sighed, pulling him closer to caress his face.
"If you are comfortable to talk about it," I said and he stared at me for a second before nodding.
"I'd cross an ocean of fire for you. Of course I'll help a traumatized teenage witch if you asked," he said and I smiled, blushing.
"Womanizer," I said jokingly in reply to his sweet words, to which he laughed. "Be gentle with her," I said when he headed to the attic and he gave me a playful smile. I tried not to eavesdrop on Davina and Kol talking with each other, and ignored the slight jealousy I felt when I heard him cheered her up and calling her petnames…I rolled my eyes at myself, knowing there was nothing for me to be jealous of, and yet that had just been my biggest trait from my human life, that was amplified when I was turned. Bored out of my mind in the church, I skimmed through the pages of the Bible and religious books, when Cami returned.
"I, um, brought food," she said nervously, her eyes scanning the surrounding.
"Stop fidgeting, it's only me. Kol's in the attic with Davina," I told her, taking a bite from the bagel she bought. "How's your uncle?"
"Getting worse," she replied, trying to appear strong.
"I'm sorry. Kol said if the hex has taken root, it'd be impossible to get rid of it," I told her. "You should've really stabbed Klaus the other day."
"What?" she asked, surprised.
"I said that with logic in my mind, not out of spite," I clarified. "Klaus would understand; given the affection he has for you." Cami look flustered and I chuckled a little at her reaction. My phone rang and I was genuinely surprise to see Caroline's picture on my phone screen.
"Excuse me, it's Klaus's crush from back home," I told Cami just to tease her, before walking away to answer the call. "If you're calling me to tell me you had sex with Klaus, I already know," I said teasingly and heard a noise of both groaning and whining from the other line.
"Ugh, did he brag about it?" she asked, making me laughed out loud. "Forget about that. We have a situation here."
"Is my beloved sister dead yet?" I asked.
"No, but oh Nessie, there was a whole drama going on with Nadia and the Travelers and vampire virus-"
"You're blabbing, Caroline. And I don't really care," I said cutting her off and the line went silent.
"I'm sorry. It's just-it's been so long since I talked to you," she said quietly.
"That's kind of the package when your friends went behind your back and killed your boyfriend at your sister's whim," I shot back. I hated it when they started to play the victims, as if my decision to cut my ties off with them was my fault. "What did you want to tell me?"
"The Travelers need doppelganger's blood."
"Again?" I asked, remembering me bleeding out for them upon Nadia's request to save Katherine.
"Yeah, their obsession with doppelgangers creeps me out. But this time they need the blood of the last doppelgangers. One of each. Katherine's dead so Elena is in the clear…but Stefan's and your doppelgangers are still alive. We're on our way to Stefan's-"
"To kill him? That doesn't sound like you," I said.
"I'm desperate okay? I can't let Stefan die," she argued.
"Yeah, better them than us, huh?" I said sarcastically. "Well, I'm a bit busy at the moment and Cassandra can be anywhere in the world in hiding. Maybe after you hunt down Stefan's doppelganger you can hunt down mine as well. I'll give you Amazon gift card," I said and Caroline chuckled lightly.
"I'll try finding out where she is. Be safe, okay?" she said and I nodded.
"Thanks for warning me, Care," I said, slightly touched that she somehow cared. Whether it was out of love or guilt, I didn't mind it at all.
"I'm glad you are with Kol. And…I miss you," she said and I sighed, ending the call. Cami looked like she wanted to ask question but Marcel came barging in, looking even more frustrated than before.
"How did it go?" I asked and he brought his hand to his face, sighing.
"How's Davina?" he asked.
"Kol's with her," I said.
"Kol, can you come down?" Marcel asked a little louder, his eyes watching the ceiling. We heard shuffling of footsteps, before Kol appeared.
"What?" he asked, irritated. Marcel glanced at all of us before he let out another frustrated sigh.
"Genevieve will lower the barrier if we return Davina to the witches," he said.
"What?" Cami asked, horrified by his suggestion.
"Are you crazy?" I asked him.
"I don't like it either. But we've no choice," he said.
"You want us to hand over Davina to the people that abused her in life and in death?" I asked again.
"She said that's all in the past now. They will welcome her home, and teach her how to control her power," Marcel said.
"She deserves to be with her own people," Kol said and I looked at him, surprised that he was agreeing with Marcel.
"Are you serious?" I asked, furious, and Kol returned the glare to me.
"It's two against two," Marcel said.
"She is a person, Marcel," Cami argued and I watched his eyes softened as he looked at her.
"There are bigger things going on here, Cami. It's the only chance that she has," he said.
"Davina can decide for herself," I said and Marcel scoffed.
"Fine. I'll talk to her," he said, and sped over to the attic, before we could argue. Cami looked at me in distress but I shook my head, not having the power or say in this. I turned to Kol and motioned him to come with me, away from Cami.
"Why did you agree to that?" I asked.
"Vanessa, a witch needs to be with her people. Not surrounded by vampires," Kol said and I sighed, knowing that he was right. "If they do anything to her, we'll do something about it."
"Fine," I said, giving in. "But before she goes back, I need to ask her for a favor. I need to know where my doppelganger is."
"I'm scared," Davina told us and I sighed, pulling her close to me. We, or I, had offered to take Davina to Genevieve, knowing that once the barrier was lifted, all of the Mikaelsons will be released and Marcel would need a head start.
"They said it's all over now. They welcome you with open arms," I said.
"Don't fret, little witch. If they harm you of any sort, we'd rip their throats out," Kol piped in and I rolled my eyes.
"He's joking. But we're here if you need us," I said and Davina smiled at the two of us.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help you locate your doppelganger."
"It's fine. No worries," I reassured her. Davina had performed a simple locator spell, but my drop of blood on the map wouldn't move away from the French Quarter pin of where I was. But she had also gone through a lot in the span of two days so she might be too weak to perform a spell.
"Ah, you hold up your end of the bargain," Genevieve greeted us, upon our arrival in front of the Lycée.
"Don't be so surprised," I said. "You must be the new leader of the coven."
"I'm Genevieve," she said calmly, yet her heart gave her fear away. Her eyes darted from Kol and I before she extended her hand to Davina.
"If you hurt her-"
"I know how fond you are to the witches," she cut Kol off, and offered us a cold smile. "But from now on, we will protect our own."
"Fair enough," I said, touching Kol's arm to make sure he wasn't triggered by Genevieve. "Take care, Davina."
We watched Davina followed Genevieve into the building and Kol gave me a hug, planting a kiss on the top of my head.
"She'll be fine. She's a fighter just like you," he said, and I returned his embrace.
"Let's see if your brothers have returned, hm?" I said.
"Are you sure the hex is completely gone?" he asked.
"Yeah, I didn't have any flashback or anything from her memories." Kol nodded and kept silent, throughout our walk back home. "If you need a break from your family..."
"What are you suggesting?" he asked, smiling.
I shrugged. "I don't know. We can leave tomorrow to hunt my shadow self, kill her, and hope she's somewhere fun like Brazil or Greece…"
"That does sound fun," Kol said and I grinned. We stopped in our tracks, noticing the swarm of vampires in the compound. Marcel was in the middle of it, facing off Elijah instead of Klaus.
"Marcellus, out of respect for my sister, I will grant you this one mercy. I will allow you to keep your life," Elijah said calmly yet his voice was laced with threat and authority. "However, you're hereby exiled. If I so much as find a trace of you in the French Quarter, it will not end well for you. Do you understand?"
Marcel didn't reply but only glared at Elijah, as he turned his back, to face the crowd of vampires. "That is all, run along," Elijah said, dismissing them. The vampires dispersed, and with them, Marcel.
"Well that was anti-climactic," Kol commented aloud and I hit his arm for joking in such somber situation.
"Vanessa," Elijah called me from the top of the stairs. "Do you mind joining me in my studies?" he asked and I looked at him, confused. Elijah didn't bother waiting, and I turned to Kol.
"No," I said to him, knowing what he wanted me to do. Kol must have told Elijah what the witches did to me in the sanitarium...
"Just a safety measure, darling. My brother wishes to know what you saw," he said. I didn't know if I should be mad with him going behind my back like this, because I knew he only wanted to ensure my sanity.
"I'll see you in a bit," I said. My tone was colder than I meant as I made my way to the house.
"Are you mad at me?" Kol asked and I groaned.
"We've had a long day, Kol. We can discuss this tomorrow," I said.
"So that's a yes," he said. "I'm only protecting you from whatever the cursed candles could do to your mind."
"I know. But that's not your choice to make," I told him softly. He stared at me for a moment before looking away.
"She was right," Kol said in realization. "You do not want to hurt him," he said bitterly and I frowned, realizing what he was implying. Not wanting to escalate it into a fight, I told him it wasn't what he thought and I'd talk to him afterwards, before heading to Elijah's studies.
"I feel like I'm in trouble," I joked lightly, taking a seat in front of his desk. Elijah didn't reply, only giving me somewhat a tired looking smile.
"How are you?" he asked, offering me a glass of scotch before sitting at the edge of the desk in front of me.
"Peachy," I replied, taking a sip of the alcohol.
"I'm sorry you're in this mess," he said sincerely and I smiled, leaning back against the chair.
"When have I ever not in the middle of family drama?" I asked, and his lips tugged a little, forming a genuine smile.
"Kol told me what the witches did to you," he began. "And I wouldn't have you suffer for what my family did." I looked down, fidgeting with the glass in my hand. My thoughts wandered to the accusation that Kol threw just now…of course I care about Elijah. I care about all of them. Despite everything that had happened in the past.
"Vanessa," he said and I hesitantly looked up to him. "I'll be fine," he said softly, offering his hand. I looked away, the guilt creeping up to me. I sighed, rising to my feet and placing down my drink, before taking his hand in mine. I stepped closer to him, his unsteady heartbeats gave away his nervousness and fear. I didn't think he could prepare for what he was about to find out. I felt his hand on the side of my head, his thumb stroking my hair gently as I closed my eyes. I took a deep breath, before calming down, and letting him in.
New Orleans, 1919
"I have to go back for him," Cassandra said as they reached the docks.
"Elijah had made me promised to ensure your survival, love. No," Klaus said menacingly, leaving no room for argument. "You won't survive my father," he said; his anxiousness for Elijah's safety was apparent in his face but he had to keep the two ladies safe. He left abruptly, probably to find a captain to compel to assist their escape. When Klaus was out of earshot, Cassandra turned to the Mikaelson sister who was still sobbing over the loss of Marcel and how it had been her fault.
"You!" she hissed. "If anything happens to Elijah," Cassandra said, finding her eyes getting teary. It wasn't a good idea to threaten an Original, even if it was Rebekah, but she didn't care at the moment. She could actually lose her beloved, and she would not accept it.
"What the bloody hell-" Rebekah's sadness turned into fury at her threats, but her next words made Rebekah's blood ran cold.
"I know that you summoned Mikael-" Rebekah clammed Cassandra's mouth shut with her hand, slamming the younger vampire against a wall.
"How did you know?" she asked, her eyes widened in fear.
"I overheard you and Marcel," Cassandra said, pushing the shocked Original off her. "I kept quiet until now. If Mikael kills Elijah…"
"He won't!" Rebekah cut her off. She didn't want to think about the consequences from her foolish actions. Especially at the thought of Elijah's blood on her hands…
"You did not see him! He was going to kill us back in the house. Your father is a monster!" Cassandra said angrily. "I understand that you want to get rid of Niklaus but-"
"You will not say a word!" Rebekah commanded in desperation, and the doppelganger blinked her blue eyes in daze.
"I will not say a word," she repeated emotionlessly and Rebekah let out a relief sigh. She saw Nik marching towards them and she took a deep breath. Nik wouldn't just dagger her, he would actually kill her if he found out. Cassandra shook her head in fear, as she realized the vervain had left her system, and what the Original vampire about to do.
"It was you that summoned Mikael to New Orleans," Rebekah compelled.
"I was the one that summoned Mikael to New Orleans," Cassandra repeated, her eyes welling up with tears. "No, please," she begged. "Why did you do that?"
"And you will not say a word to Nik." Cassandra let out a sob as she felt the compulsion took over.
"Come, we are leaving now," Klaus said, glancing over at the hysterical doppelganger. "I gave Elijah my word, sweetheart. You are coming with us."
"I cannot leave him," Cassandra said, shaking her head. If she stayed with them, she would be signing her death sentence. If Niklaus inquired her, the compulsion would force her to confess to a crime she did not commit. She needed to find Elijah. She needed Elijah to trust her.
"We have to go," Rebekah urged, realizing that the Petrova girl was formulating a plan. She gave her one final glare and before they could say another word, she had disappeared in a flash.
Elijah gasped, moving away from me. I made a move to comfort him but he held up his hand at me.
"She found me, and we headed North to lead my father away from my siblings," Elijah said aloud, more to himself than to me. I had seen this in Cassandra's mind but I realized he wasn't telling me but only trying to process his thoughts and emotions. "She was quiet the whole time, I thought it was because of what happened. But I could tell that she was hiding something and I…I assumed the worst of her."
"When you asked if she brought Mikael to New Orleans, the compulsion made her confessed," I said and Elijah nodded. He took a deep breath, trying but failing to compose himself in front of me.
"I told her I do not want to see her face ever again," he said, sitting down. Just as he had exiled Marcel today, he had exiled Cassandra too a century ago. "In 1922, she came back. She told me Rebekah had compelled her but I could not trust her then…"
I hadn't been able to see this part in Cassandra's mind, but I connected the dots. "The compulsion wore off when Klaus daggered Rebekah," I said and Elijah ran his hands over his face when I confirmed what he had thought. He was silent for what it felt like an eternity and I wasn't sure if I was the right person to comfort him.
"Good night, Vanessa," Elijah said softly, dismissing me.
"I'm so sorry, Elijah," I told him sincerely, before leaving him to his thoughts. I wanted to inform him about the Travelers, but it might be too much for him to bear right now. The news of Kol and me wanting to leave to hunt his old flame, will have to wait.
I dreaded going back to my room, not having the energy to argue with Kol. So I headed to find Klaus, knowing how hard it was to lose a sibling – even when the said sibling was the one to betray you. When I was told of Jeremy's death, Klaus had helped me navigated through my emotions, although it was uncharacteristically of him. His back was facing me, and I knocked on the door softly, announcing my presence.
"Are you here to cheer me up?" he asked dryly and I rolled my eyes.
"Not really. Just wanted to offer my ears or maybe my shoulders for you to cry on," I said and Klaus gave me a murderous glare but I could tell he didn't mind the company. "Care to rant?" I asked and he let out a heavy sigh. Instead, he handed me the thing that he was holding; a wooden toy that was carved into a knight riding a horse.
"You were right. If I had followed my rage and kill her, the regret would be unbearable," he said after a moment of silence and I wrapped my arm around his shoulders, wanting to comfort him. Celeste's plan did work. The Mikaelsons did fall apart as she wanted.
"You've loved her for a thousand years. And she loved you too," I said and Klaus hummed. "It's not family if there's no mess."
"It's not family if there's no betrayal," he corrected bitterly and I grimaced, knowing he was right.
"It's fine. There's no shame in feeling broken and sad. You deserved a break," I said and shrugged. "You can resume your Evil Hybrid persona tomorrow," I added playfully and he rolled his eyes. Before Klaus could reply, the sound of yelling, glass shattering and furniture breaking caught our ears and both of us frowned, before heading to Elijah's studies which the sound of chaos was coming from.
The room was a mess, with Kol having a murderous expression on his face as he had Elijah in a chokehold.
"What the bloody hell is this?" Klaus asked, flabbergasted with Kol lashing out. Kol whipped his head at us, and his face turned from fury to confusion.
"You were just-" Kol muttered as he looked at me before turning to look at Elijah, his brows furrowed.
"That wasn't Vanessa," Elijah managed to say despite Kol's iron grip on his throat.
"I'm sorry. Better you die than I."
I heard my voice said softly from behind me, except it didn't come from me. Before any of us could react, a gasp escaped my lips – the familiar pain of when something wooden pierced my flesh engulfed me. Except it wasn't just any part of my body. I grabbed Klaus's arm as I felt my knees giving away, and my eyes flickered down to the protruding stake in my chest.
I was stabbed in the heart.
"Vanessa," Kol appeared in front of me, his eyes widened in horror. I gasped, only to choke as blood pooled in my mouth and throat, and I desperately clung to him.
"Kol," I managed to gasp, fighting hard the numbness that was claiming every inch of my body. It was futile, but I had to fight. I had to. I was filled with terror as I realized I could no longer feel Kol's warmth or hear what they were saying. My voice wasn't working, I was only able to gasp and choke.
I wanted to tell him that I love him. That my heart belonged solely to him. That he is my ever–
Whoops. Unfortunately, as a doppelganger, even if you're in the French Quarter, you will still be affected by the mess happening in Mystic Falls. And yes, don't fret, Vanessa will be back. Leave a review, I hope you like it! xx
