I stepped out of the SUV and closed the car door behind me. I took in the somber sight of my childhood home that was completely burnt. I heard the other car door close and Nik walked around the front of the car.
"So this is where you grew up." Nik said as he looked around.
"Yup. From the creek bed through the forest there to the edge of the mountains is Hale land." Nik raised his eyebrows at that.
"How many acres is that?" He asked.
"Eh, 164 give or take. This land has been in my family since they moved after the Civil War in 1864. A Werewolf family needs big enough land to house several packs." I stated and walked closer to the burnt Hale Family house.
"You must have plenty of memories." Nik stated as he followed next to me.
"That's all I have left. The creek bed down that way is where my siblings and I built a tree fort secret clubhouse. We made up a secret handshake to enter it. And that tree right there," I said and pointed to the giant oak tree at the front of the house, "Is the tree I tried to climb to follow my brother when I was only eight. A dead tree limb gave out and I fell and broke my arm. Mom was so mad at Derek for not watching me." I said smiling at the memory.
Nik smiled and chuckled, "Breaking your arm was a good memory?"
"Hey, I was the coolest kid in my class with that cast on my arm. That gave you street cred in elementary school." I told him pointedly.
Nik grinned and gave a laugh, "I'll take your word for it." He answered.
I heard a car honk from behind me. I grinned seeing an all too familiar black car with tinted windows rolling up to the house.
"Who's that?" Nik asked curiously.
I turned to him with a smile, "Ready to meet my brother?" Nik seemed intrigued now and waited next to me.
The driver side door opened and I smiled bigger than I have in a long time. Derek got out of the car and closed the door. Derek grinned and stuffed his hands in his leather jacket pockets.
"Long time no see, Al." I ran to Derek and jumped into his arms.
He caught me and spun me around. We hugged each other tight, "God I've missed you." I said.
Derek gave a chuckle, "I've missed you too, sis."
"Aw, sibling reunion." I stopped hugging Derek after hearing Megan's voice. She got out of the passenger side.
I gave Megan a look, "Meg, where's my car if you drove with Derek?"
"I left it parked by the hideout. We decided to head over as quick as we could after you texted me that you were here." Megan assured me.
I heard footsteps next to me and Derek stood up straighter and was on alert. Derek was staring hard at Nik.
Derek took a step in front of me, "Who the hell is this guy?" Derek asked, not taking his eyes off Nik.
Nik let out a smirk. He liked the reaction he got from Derek. "Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Klaus Mikaelson." Derek went stiff.
"I've heard of you. You're the Hybrid. What are you doing with my sister?" Derek demanded.
"My reputation continues to precede me. I assure you I mean no harm to your sister. You and I have something in common, actually." Derek narrowed his eyes at him.
"What would that be?" Derek asked.
"We both deeply care for Allye." Nik said with his smirk turning into a small smile.
Derek looked back at me completely confused now, "What is he talking about?" He asked me.
"Look." I said and pulled part of the collar of my shirt to expose the crook of my neck.
Derek's eyes glowed blue...wait. Blue?! What happened?! Derek's eyes returned back to their hazel color.
"You're marked." He said in disbelief.
"What does that mean?" Megan asked, confused.
Derek looked towards Megan, "Marking is something werewolf mates do to each other. To show the rest of the pack that they're claimed." Derek then turned to Nik who had an amused expression on his face.
"Prove to me that's your mark on her." Derek demanded.
"Certainly." Nik said and removed his jacket and tossed it onto the hood of his SUV. He pulled back the collar of his shirt to expose his collar bone.
Derek did the same thing and his eyes glowed blue. "You've gotta be kidding me." Derek muttered under his breath.
Derek turned to me, "You couldn't have mentioned to me that you found your mate?! And that he's the Hybrid that every wolf has been talking about?!" Derek seethed through his teeth.
I raised an eyebrow, "Just like how you didn't tell me you're back to being a Beta? Your eyes were red when I left a year and half ago. They're back to blue. What happened?" Derek let out a huff and looked away from me.
"There's...something else you need to know." Derek said, calming down.
Derek patted his hand on the top of his car. I saw someone start to climb out from the back seat of Derek's car.
I cautiously walked to the front of Derek's car. Megan stepped out of the way. I watched curiously as I saw a young teenage girl with long brunette hair and hazel eyes stepped out of the car.
The girl made eye contact with me and a grin broke out on her face. She cautiously walked around the car until she was about five feet away from me.
"I sacrificed my Alpha powers to bring her back from the brink of death. That's why I'm a Beta again." I looked at Derek in shock. Who was this?
"Who are you then? My brother would not have sacrificed his Alpha rank for any stranger." I asked warily.
"Um," She started out, "I know I look...different than you remember. I was only a kid the last time we saw each other. Allye. It's me...Cora." My breath hitched in my throat and my eyes widened. That's not possible. Cora died in the fire.
"How is that possible? Cora died in the fire that killed the majority of Allye's family seven years ago." Nik spoke up with suspicion in his voice.
The girl shook her head, "I survived the fire. I manage to get out and escape into the woods. Some family friends found me and took me with them to South America. I've been there for the past seven years."
I shook my head and took a step back, "No. You're not her."
"I can prove it. If you let me." She stated.
I said nothing as she walked closer to me. I eyed her cautiously and she put her hand out for a handshake. I narrowed my eyes at her but reached my hand out to hers.
Once my hand grabbed hers, she started to do a handshake I hadn't done since I was a kid. The secret handshake we all had made as kids when we had a clubhouse out in the woods.
She finished the handshake and smiled, "I still know the secret handshake to get into the clubhouse we had by the creek." It's her. It's really her.
"Cora. It really is you." I pulled her into a hug and held her tight.
"I can't believe you're alive." I said with a shaky voice.
"I didn't believe you were alive until a few months ago." Cora replied and hugged me tighter.
"I think we all have some catching up to do. Let's head into town and get some lunch." I heard Derek say.
I let go of Cora and looked at Derek, "Sounds good to me. I've only eaten snack foods during the long trip here."
"Oh! Can I ride with you, Allye?" Cora asked, grabbing hold of my arm.
"Sure." I answered and laughed at her enthusiasm.
"Head to the diner off of 7th street." Derek told me.
"Got it. We'll meet you there." Nik walked ahead and grabbed his jacket off the hood before going towards the drive door.
I got into the passenger side of the car and Cora got into the backseat. I watched in the side mirror as Derek and Megan got into his car. Nik got into the driver side and closed the door before starting the engine.
"You said your name is Klaus, right?" Cora asked Nik.
"Yes." He answered and focused on driving out of the clearing and back to the road. He began to follow Derek to the diner once we hit the road.
"Derek called you a Hybrid. A Hybrid of what exactly?" Nik glanced at Cora with amusement in his eyes.
"You don't know?" He asked, slightly surprised.
"Seems like you're not well known in South America." I teased Nik.
"Apparently. I'm half werewolf and half vampire." Nik answered. I turned my head to see Cora's jaw fell open.
"What? Vampires are real?!" She said in disbelief.
"And Witch's." I added. Cora snapped her head to me.
"This is all in Mystic Falls, Virginia?" Cora asked.
"Not just Mystic Falls." Nik answered and chuckled out of amusement.
"Wait. If you're part vampire, how come you don't burn in the sun?" Cora asked him.
"Ah, nice catch. My werewolf side prevents that. Other vampires have to wear a special ring that's been embedded with magic. We call it a Daylight Ring. It allows vampires to walk in the sun without burning." Nik answered her question.
"So...you don't burn in the sun because you're half werewolf. Does that mean you don't turn during a full moon because you're half vampire too?" Nik looked at me with a grin on his face.
"Oh I like her. She's a smart one." Nik commented.
"I have to know then. How old are you?" Cora asked as she leaned up to the front. She put her around my headrest.
"A thousand some odd years." Cora's eyes widen at that.
"Oh my god." She looked at me in disbelief. "Talk about an age gap." I busted my gut laughing at Cora's bluntness.
Nik glanced at me amused before turning his eyes back on the road. Making sure he would not lose Derek.
Once I settled down enough I opened my mouth to talk, "Nik is one of the Original Vampires. He helped create the entire species of vampires." Cora hummed in thought.
"That makes me wonder." I looked at Cora.
"About what?" I asked.
"About the Original Werewolves. The first ones in history." She asked curiously.
"Um. I don't know anything about that. Werewolves have been around a lot longer than vampires. They were around when Nik was still human over a thousand years ago." I looked at Nik for an answer.
"Don't look at me. I don't know the origin story of werewolves either." Nik answered.
"I've only heard of a legend from back home. The legend goes that Werewolves got their powers during Ancient Greece. There was something called Artemis' Blessing that turned the first human into a wolf."
"Artemis as in the Greek Goddess?" I asked for confirmation.
"The very one. The legend even says that the first wolf ever turned is actually immortal." This caught Nik's attention immediately.
"An immortal werewolf?" He asked in almost disbelief.
"According to the legend, it is just an ancient legend though. A lot of it could be false." Cora said with a shrug of her shoulders.
"Consider me intrigued. I'll have to look more into this legend." Nik said as he drove into the parking lot of the diner.
"Good luck with that. The legend was spread by word of mouth. I'm not sure if it was ever written down." Cora said and got out of the car after Nik parked.
"We'll be right there, Cora." I told her. She nodded and closed the door.
"An immortal werewolf? I've never heard of that." I said to Nik.
"Neither have I, but it's worth looking into. If there is in fact an immortal werewolf from Ancient Greek times. We can track them down and find out how they became immortal." Nik said.
"That would be extremely difficult to do. Ancient Greece was two thousand years ago. How do you track somebody down that old?" I asked.
"I'll figure it out. This is a lead, love. This could be real and you could become an immortal werewolf. I'm going to follow this lead and see where it takes me." Nik said and gently grabbed my hand.
I nodded, "Let's hope it's real." Nik smiled and leaned towards me and captured me in a chaste kiss.
We pulled apart after someone knocked on the glass of the driver side. We looked over and saw Derek.
"Just because you two are mates, doesn't mean I like seeing my sister kissing somebody I hardly know." I heard Derek's muffled voice from the glass.
Nik gave a tight lip smile to Derek who in turn, returned the same type of smile. Derek's smile turned into a smirk and headed inside the diner.
"Your brother is…" Nik trailed off.
"Protective?" I answered for him.
"Yes. Very." Nik commented.
"Well before I met you, he was really the only important male figure in my life. He always looked out for his little sister and that included scaring off boys. No one was good enough for me. Hence why I never dated during school. Sound familiar?" Nik let out a huff. I know he already made the correlation that mine and Derek's relationship is the same as his and Rebekah's.
"I see Rebekah's point now." Nik said bluntly and void with no emotion.
"Just needed a taste of your own medicine." I teased and got out of the car.
Nik got out of the car and I went around the front to him. I could feel he was annoyed and it was written all over his face. I grabbed his hand and interlocked our fingers as we walked to the diners entrance.
"You'll be fine. Leave my brother to me." I whispered to him and squeezed his hand. Nik squeezed my hand back.
"So Doppelgangers are an actual thing?" Cora said in shock. We were sitting in a long booth and already had our food out.
"Yup and trust me if I wasn't a wolf with a great sense of smell. I would never have been able to tell the difference between Katherine and Elena." I stated.
"Sure they look the same, but wouldn't their personalities be different?" Derek asked, raising an eyebrow.
"They are, but Katerina has become quite adept at pretending to be Elena. Truth be told, she even tricked me a month ago." Nik commented and he leaned back against the booth.
"I've always been told that somewhere out there in the world is somebody that looks just like you. I wonder if there are more doppelgangers out there." Cora wondered.
"There might be. We just don't know." Megan said with a shrug of her shoulders.
I felt my phone vibrate once again in my pocket. My phone had been going off since we sat down and ordered drinks. I put it on vibrate after the first three calls.
"Just answer, Allye. Maybe whoever is calling you will stop then." Derek said, annoyed. He could hear the buzzing of the phone.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and I frowned seeing the caller ID.
"Carol's been calling me." Nik turned to me, confusion on his face.
"Carol. As in Lockwood?" Derek asked, raising an eyebrow.
I hit the accept button and put the phone to my ear. Everyone at the booth was watching me and listening in.
"Carol. I'm kind of busy at the moment. Can this wait?" I answered.
"No, I'm afraid not. I was told you left town with Klaus." Nik and I exchanged a look.
"I did. What's this about?" I asked.
"It's Tyler."
"What about him? Did something happen to him?" I asked now in alert mode.
"There's this new Vampire Hunter in town. He has tried to kill Tyler two times now. I don't think he knows Tyler is a Hybrid that's why he hasn't stopped trying to kill him. It's only a matter of time before he does find out how to kill Tyler."
"What do you want us to do, Carol?" I asked.
"The only person capable of protecting Tyler right now is Klaus. Please Allye. I need you to come back to Mystic Falls. If you come back, Klaus will follow." Carol pleaded.
"Fine. It's about a day and half drive to Mystic Falls from Beacon Hills. I'll drive straight through. Until we get there, keep Tyler indoors where it's safe." I ordered and hung up the phone.
"I'm sorry to cut this reunion short." I told Derek and Cora.
Derek smirked, "No need. I was planning on leaving Beacon Hills with Cora to South America but now it looks like we're going with you to Mystic Falls."
"You guys don't have to." I said.
"We're going with you, Allye. Family sticks together." Cora assured.
"All right. If you're sure. I'm going to need my car though." I said and looked at Derek.
Derek smirked, "Then let's get going."
It happened! Klaus finally met Derek and Allye discovered Cora who she thought perished long ago. Klaus and Allye now have another option for immortality. Cora tells them of a legend of the Original Werewolf that is rumored to be over two thousand years old. We are now at the part where this is my AU and will be slightly different from the actual series and events of Season 4.
