I was startled awake hearing my phone's ringtone going off. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and looked next to me to see an empty bed. Nik wasn't anywhere in the bedroom.
I reached over to the nightstand and groaned seeing it was Caroline calling me.
I answered my phone and put it to my ear, "Why are you calling me?" I asked.
"Good morning to you too, sunshine. You need to get down to the Lockwood Mansion." I frowned in confusion.
"Why?" I asked.
"Allye, we're setting up for Miss Mystic Falls. You're a Hale and this is a mandatory founding family event." I rubbed my forehead. I completely forgot about the pageant. Carol called me earlier and told me myself, Derek, and Cora needed to attend and help set up.
"Let me guess, you're setting up?" I asked.
"Yes, now get your werewolf butt over here! I already contacted Derek and Cora. They should be here soon." Caroline ordered.
"Since when do you have my siblings' numbers?" I asked in shock.
"I went over to your old place and introduced myself. By the way, good looks is definitely a family trait." I rolled my eyes at that.
"I'll head there now to help set up." I answered. I threw the covers off of me as I swung my feet over the bed.
I hung up the phone with a sigh. Caroline is still being surprisingly nice to me. Yesterday, she had a motive but today I'm not sure.
I walked to the back of the Lockwood Mansion. Tables were everywhere and people walked around carrying flowers, vases, and other decor for the pageant. I saw Elena and Caroline talking to Professor Shane. What's he doing here?
As I got closer to Elena and Caroline, Professor Shane left to head inside. Elena was the first one to notice me. She stared at me with a narrowed gaze.
"What is Allye doing here?" I heard Elena quietly ask Caroline.
"She's a Hale, Elena. This is a mandatory founding family event." Caroline whispered back.
"I can hear you." I spoke up and stopped in front of them.
Caroline grimaced, "Sorry." She apologized. The tension between me and Elena thickened as we stared at each other, "Um, Elena. Why don't you help with the floral arrangements?" Caroline said.
Elena eyed me one last time, "Yeah. I can do that." She turned around and walked away. My gaze turned to Caroline.
"Why am I here, Caroline? I'm clearly not welcomed." I stated.
Caroline sighed, "Because I've been a huge jerk to you recently. Megan chewed me out a couple days ago." I raised an eyebrow.
"What'd she say?" I asked curiously.
"That we were all being hypocritical. We all protect the ones we care about and it's not fair that we treat you differently when you do the same. Even if it's Klaus. I want to go back to being friends, Allye." Caroline said solemnly.
"Bonnie and Elena won't like that." I stated.
"Elena will get over it and as for Bonnie. Megan told her you never planned on harming Jamie and it was all for show." Caroline stated.
"Bonnie believed Megan? I would have thought Bonnie wouldn't believe her." I said in surprise.
"All the years we've known Megan, she's never been a liar. Trust me, Bonnie wants to be friends with you again." Caroline was telling the truth this whole time. The friends I thought that ditched me, wanted to reconnect.
I let out a small smile, "All right. Let's start over then." I held my hand out, "I'm Allye Hale." Caroline smiled and grabbed my hand.
"Caroline Forbes." We shook hands and both of us started to laugh.
"Okay, where do you need me?" I asked and looked around.
"If you could start putting silverware and champagne glasses on the tables, that would be great." I nodded.
"Derek and Cora already here?" I asked.
"Derek is helping Jeremy and Matt with the heavy lifting. Cora is inside decorating the banister. Now, I need to get back to supervising." Caroline walked off and I headed in the other direction.
Cora and I watched as Caroline was yelling at some girls for putting the red flowers in the wrong place. Cora had finished inside and was helping me set up the tables.
"Is she always like that?" Cora asked.
I nodded, "When it comes to being in charge. Yes." I answered.
I continued to set champagne glasses on the table. Cora went eerily quiet and I stopped and looked at her. Her gaze was focused elsewhere. I followed her gaze and saw Megan talking with Derek and was Derek...smiling?!
"You're seeing what I'm seeing, right?" Cora asked in a hush voice.
"Yeah. He's smiling. Derek doesn't do that often." I answered back. Our jaws dropped open seeing and hearing Derek laugh at something Megan said.
"He laughed...our brother just laughed." I said in complete shock.
"So I was right. Derek's been acting weird because of a girl. I didn't think it would be Megan though." Cora said in shock.
"I mean, I could see it. If he hurts her though, I'm kicking his ass." I stated bluntly.
"I'll help you with that. We're out of silverware. I'm going to get some more inside." Cora said and walked off. I stared at Derek and Megan for a while longer before going to the next table.
I started to set up more champagne glasses on the empty table. I heard someone approach me and Nik's scent hit me.
"I see Caroline put you to work." Nik commented.
"One of the annoying things of being part of the founding families. I have to be present for every event and that includes setting up. What are you doing here?" I asked as I put the last champagne glass on the table.
"I found Stefan to have a chat and overheard his conversation with Caroline on the phone." I raised my eyebrows hearing the word "chat".
"By chat you mean threaten?" I asked for clarification.
Nik smirked, "You know me well, love. Stefan is in charge of making sure Jeremy Gilbert's hunters mark grows. He's handling it as we speak." Nik answered.
"Jeremy isn't going to kill innocent people that were turned into vampires just to be slaughtered. You know that right?" I said and narrowed my eyes. I didn't like that plan either. It goes against the code I was raised to abide by.
"You really think Stefan of all people would turn innocent people?" Nik retorted. Nik had a point. Stefan is not Damon and wouldn't do that. He's probably looking for the worst of the worst to turn into vampires.
Nik looked around at the tables and dance floor that was now set up. "Did you ever compete?" He asked, looking back at me.
"In Miss Mystic Falls? It's meant for high school students. I wasn't here when I was still in high school. The last time I saw a Miss Mystic Falls pageant was when I was eleven. Laura entered it though and Derek was her escort." I answered.
"That's a shame. I think you would have won." Nik said, smiling and walked closer to me.
"I wouldn't have even signed up." I retorted with a smile. Nik frowned at that.
"And why not?" I shrugged.
"I've never cared for something like this or pageants in general. Making women compete just to prove their beauty? It's misogynistic. I have my pride as a woman. I don't need judges telling me if I'm beautiful or not. " I explained my point of view.
Nik gave a soft smile and walked up in front of me. He used his hand to tuck my bangs behind my ear, "How about when I tell you that you're beautiful?" He asked as he looked into my eyes.
"It's different when it comes from someone I love. You've seen me at my best, my worst, and my lowest. If I believe anyone that tells me that, it's definitely you." I answered truthfully.
"Good." Nik cupped my right cheek as he gave me a chaste kiss.
Nik broke the kiss, "What time should we be here for tomorrow?" Nik asked
"We?" I questioned.
"I assume I'm going to be your date to the mandatory event you have to attend." He said with a playful smirk on his face.
"Two pm." I answered.
"And do you have a dress?" I narrowed my eyes at him and he grinned, "I'll take that as a no."
"Just something simple, Nik. This is not a ball." I warned him.
Nik held his left hand up, "I will get you something simple then. I swear it." I rolled my eyes and gave him a quick kiss.
"I need to get back to work before Caroline yells at me. I love you." I stated.
"I love you too." Nik responded and we went our separate ways.
As I headed back to the mansion, I saw Caroline making a beeline towards me. Oh boy.
"What was he doing here?" Caroline sneered under her breath.
"He was saying hi and wanted to know what time to be here tomorrow." I answered. Caroline's jaw dropped.
"Please tell me he is not coming to the pageant." I gave Caroline a look.
"You said you want to be friends again, Care. If you really meant that, then you need to accept my relationship with Nik." I told her with anger laced in my voice. I brushed past her and ignored her calling out my name to stop me.
I turned a corner and someone caught me by my shoulders before running into them.
"You're mad." I heard Derek's voice.
"Thank you for your insight." I said sarcastically.
Derek chuckled, "I'm done here and you need to let off some steam. Come on."
"So they want to be friends again but they still don't like Klaus hanging around?" Derek said as he blocked my punches.
This was always the way Derek and I would let off some steam. We'd talk as we sparred. We didn't use gloves or anything like that since we just heal.
"They want things to go back to how they used to be before Nik." I said as I went for an uppercut and Derek dodged.
"Then they won't be your friends again until they accept that you two are together." Derek advised. He grabbed my ankle as I went for a kick and pushed it back down.
"They view Nik as the ultimate evil. I don't think they will ever accept it." I scoffed.
"Hold on. Other vampires are saying he's the ultimate evil? Vampires, werewolves, and witches. We're all monsters and I'm sure as hell that whatever Klaus has done, they've done it too." Derek retorted. I stopped sparing for a moment. I grabbed the water bottle that sat on a tree stump.
"I would say one of them is worse than Nik. Stefan Salvatore is a Ripper." Derek looked at me with confusion.
"Sorry, forgot. You don't know vampire terms. Ripper is a vampire that can't control their bloodlust when it comes to human blood. Once Stefan starts feeding from a human, he doesn't stop until they're completely drained. He feeds on humans so hard that he decapitates them. He's killed hundreds, maybe thousands of people in the span of a single decade when he went full Ripper." Derek looked at me in surprise.
"And he calls Klaus evil? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black." I nodded and took a drink of water.
"Damon's not much better. He's known for killing on impulse. He's the one that killed Mason Lockwood on impulse. Mason didn't have to die." I informed my brother. Derek's look hardened. Mason was his friend after all.
"Damon's the same guy that broke your heart, right?" I nodded and I saw Derek's eyes flash blue.
"The others are the same way. Caroline has admitted that when she first killed, it felt good. Elena got over her first kill pretty fast, which I still think she was playing it up for Damon and Stefan. She's a master at manipulating emotions. She use to do it to me, before I took a step back and saw what she was doing. Now as a vampire, it's heightened." I commented.
"She might be the root of your problem then." Derek stated.
"Oh I know she is. Everything revolves around Elena." I let out a frustrated sigh, "I need to wolf out." I said as my eyes flashed red.
Derek smirked and his eyes glowed blue, "Then do it." He said as he started to shift. I let out a growl as I started to turn.
I walked into Nik's mansion and closed the door behind me. The spar with Derek helped a lot with releasing my anger.
"Nik?" I called out.
"In the art studio, love!" I heard him call back. I walked towards the art studio and saw Nik standing in front of a blank canvas.
"What are you gonna paint?" I asked as I walked over to the small server that had a scotch bottle and glasses on it.
"Haven't decided yet. What happened to you?" Nik asked. He pointed at my hair. I ran my hand through my hair and felt a leaf.
"Caroline pissed me off after you left. Derek took me out in the forest to let off some steam." I said as I poured a glass. Nik set his paintbrush down and turned fully to me.
"What did Caroline do this time?" He asked with a stern voice.
"She saw you with me earlier. When I told her you're coming with me as my date to Miss Mystic Falls. She freaked." I said and down the shot of scotch.
"She also told me that she wanted to be friends again, but then she did that. So Derek took me out to spar and let out some anger." Nik raised his eyebrows at that.
"Spar?" He repeated in disbelief.
"It's how my brother and I always let out whatever is bottling up inside. We spar and just talk about what's bothering us. And when we're really mad, we turn. When that happens, the sparring gets more...intense." I explained and set down the glass.
"How intense?" Nik asked now intrigued.
"I got thrown by Derek for one and I kicked him about ten feet away from me." I said and walked to the back of the chaise lounge. I leaned my hands on the wooden frame.
Nik smirked and sauntered over to the other side of the chaise. "You know, I could spar with you." I let out a smirk of my own.
"I don't think much sparing would happen." Nik gave me a mock hurt expression.
"Are you implying that I would try something else?" My smirk turned into a smile as I laughed.
"Yes I am." Nik grew a playful look on his face.
"I'm offended that you'd think that." I slowly walked around the chaise lounge. Nik mirrored my movements. Keeping on the opposite side of me.
"Oh are you? I highly doubt that." I mocked. At this point Nik and I had almost done a full circle around the chaise lounge.
"You wound me, love." Nik said and placed his hand on his chest. My eyes shifted to the exit of the art studio before shifting back to Nik. He noticed and a playful smirk grew on his face.
I sprinted for the exit but didn't get far. Nik used his vampire speed and beat me to the archway. I laughed as he caught me in his arms and pulled me back to him.
"You can't get away from me that easily." Nik mocked me and held me against him.
I laid my palms flat on Nik's chest, "Vampire speed is cheating." I chided and narrowed my eyes on him.
Nik smiled and chuckled, "Even without it, I'll still catch up to you." We both leaned forward for a passionate kiss. We broke the kiss and Nik rested his head against mine as he held me tighter.
"I would spar with you though." I answered his earlier question.
Nik pulled back to look me in the eyes. He had a smile on his face, "I'd like that."
"Just dial down the hybrid strength. Derek and I go all out. We can't do that." I mentioned it to him.
Nik kissed my forehead, "I would never hurt you, love. You can go all out on me if you'd like." Nik offered.
"I wouldn't want to hurt you either." Nik opened his mouth and I held my finger up, "And don't say I can't hurt you because I can." Nik closed his mouth and gave me a submissive look.
"All right. We'll both dial it back then." Nik agreed.
I smiled and gave Nik another kiss before pulling back, "Now I need to see what dress you got."
"I kept it simple as you requested. It's upstairs in the bedroom." Nik assured me.
"I have to make sure your version of simple is the same as mine." I said as I started to walk to the foyer.
Nik grinned, "I'm not going to answer that." I looked over my shoulder to look at him as we walked.
"Smart choice." Nik put his hand on the small of my back as we walked.
"I know a trap when I see one." I chuckled at that. I put my arm around his waist as we started up the stairs.
I walked down the path in a powder blue single shoulder strap dress that stopped just below my knees and powder blue one inch heels to match. My arm was looped around Nik's. Nik is in a black suit with a powder blue tie to match my dress.
The orchestra was already playing as people mingled and drank champagne. I saw Carol talking to a group of people. As soon as she noticed me, she excused herself and walked over to us.
"Allye, you look lovely. I'm glad you could make it." I gave a polite smile.
"Well I couldn't miss it even if I wanted to. Founding family member and all." Carol returned the polite smile.
"Well you and Klaus enjoy the event." My smile dropped after Carol left.
"She's insufferable." Nik stated bluntly.
I let out a chuckle which caused Nik to grin.
"Allye!" I heard a hush voice. I turn my head to see Cora rushing over to me as quickly as she could in heels. She has a cream yellow spaghetti strap dress that had frills below the waist that ended just past her knees.
"Save me." I looked at her confused as she grabbed my free arm.
"Save you from what?" I asked.
"Him." Nik and I looked over and saw Tyler walking with Hayley and they were holding hands.
"They didn't waste any time, did they?" Nik said rhetorically.
"Has he seen you yet?" I asked Cora.
Cora shook her head, "No, and I don't want him to. I do not want to have that awkward conversation of "I didn't actually die" to him of all people. There is already a love triangle going on and I do not want to be thrown into the mix." Cora then turned to Nik, "I'm stealing my sister from you." She announced.
"I'd like her back at some point." Nik joked with a smirk.
"I'll catch up with you." I assured Nik. I gave him a quick kiss before unhooking my arm from his.
Cora dragged me off just as Caroline started to announce this year's Miss Mystic Court. She led me to just around where Derek stood in a black suit but no tie and the top button on the collar was undone.
Derek raised an eyebrow at us approaching him, "You're practically dragging her, Cora. What's going on?" He asked.
"Tyler's here and she doesn't want him to see her." Derek nodded.
"Isn't there some kind of drama going on with him?" Derek asked.
"Love triangle." Cora answered.
Derek nodded again and looked across from us and he pursed his lips. "Might be a little late now." Cora furrowed her eyebrows and turned around. I followed her gaze and Tyler was staring at us.
He had a look of shock on his face as he stared at Cora. "Crap." She muttered. Tyler excused himself from Hayley and started to walk to us.
"Double crap." Cora added and hid behind me.
"Cora?" Tyler asked cautiously as he got closer to us. Cora peaked over my shoulder.
"Hi." She said sheepishly.
Tyler looked at me stunned, "I thought you said she died in that fire?" He had an accusing tone in his voice.
"Hey, back off the attitude Lockwood." Derek spoke up, glaring at Tyler.
"I found out about five days ago that she survived." I clarified for Tyler.
"And you didn't think to tell me?" Tyler said with anger in his voice. Derek stepped out from behind us and now stood in between us and Tyler.
"I said. Back. Off." Derek said firmly. Tyler and Derek had a stare off. Neither of them backed down.
"Is there a problem?" I heard Nik's voice come from in front of us. He stood just behind Tyler with his hands in his pockets and a hard stare directed at Tyler.
"No. Tyler was just leaving. Weren't you?" Derek answered. Tyler let out a scoff. He looked at Nik then Derek and finally looked at me and Cora.
"You're losing all of your friends, Allye. You can only burn so many bridges before they can't be built back up." Tyler took one step forward. That was a mistake.
Derek grabbed him by the collar of his tux and slammed him to the side of the Lockwood Mansion.
"Don't threaten my sister right in front of my face. You like having your head still attached to your body? Because it won't be for long if you threaten her again. Can your walnut sized brain understand what I'm telling you now?" Derek threatened with a low voice and his eyes glowed a brilliant blue.
Tyler's eyes glowed gold and he smacked Derek's hands away from his collar. He stormed off with another word and Derek glared at his back as he went back to Hayley.
Cora let out a breath she was holding, "Thank you Derek." She said gratefully.
"Screw this. Let's go." Derek said and started to walk away.
"I'm gonna stay here for a while longer." I told Derek. Derek stopped and turned around. He looked me in the eye.
"Fine but you do not leave Klaus' side. Got it?" Derek ordered and pointed at Nik. Derek and Nik made eye contact. Nik nodded to him and Derek turned back around and led Cora to the front of the mansion.
"It's a good thing your brother stepped in when he did. I was about to tear Tyler's head off myself." Nik stated. He walked over to stand next to me.
I let out a heavy sigh, "I need a drink. Like a whole bottle of wine." Nik smiled and took my hand in his.
"You read my mind, love." Nik said and led me over to the drinks table.
As we walked to the drinks table I could see Damon, Elena, and Caroline talking. Nik stopped us from going any further. He put his finger up to his lips and turned his ear to them. He was listening to their conversation. I tucked my hair behind my ear and focused on my hearing as well.
"Do the math. Emo teen, open bar, it's fine." I heard Damon tell them.
"Matt said that Jeremy's been having nightmares about killing vampires and he's been hiding it from me." Nik and I glanced at each other hearing that.
"Relax, I'm sure he's fine." Damon reassured.
"I don't know. I have a bad feeling." Elena said unsure.
"If I'm not worried, you shouldn't be worried. Let it go. I'll go look for him." Damon told Elena.
"Okay." I furrowed my brows at that. I looked at Nik and he had a smirk on his face. He knew something I didn't. Damon walked away from them and Caroline turned to Elena.
"Okay, you go home. I'm gonna start asking around here." Caroline informed Elena.
"Maybe Damon's right. Maybe he grabbed a bottle from the bar and snuck off to the woods." This does not sound like the Elena I knew. She'd be searching high and low for her brother.
"No, Damon is never right. Damon is sneaky and manipulative and rude, but he's never right. How can you not see that?" Caroline raised her voice.
"I don't know, but why do I think that you won't hesitate to tell me? You don't hesitate to tell Allye." Caroline's jaw dropped.
"Because both of you have feelings for the wrong guy." My jaw tense and my grip on Nik's hand tightened, "Both of you have your judgments clouded and I don't like it." Caroline continued.
"And just the thought of you two together really makes me want to barf." Caroline added.
"Are you talking about me and Damon or Allye and Klaus now?" Elena demanded.
Caroline didn't answer, "Which one, Caroline?" Elena repeated.
"Both of you, okay?!" Caroline snapped.
Elena scoffed, "Wow, Caroline, thank you for making this very difficult time so much easier. Now I know how Allye feels like with your constant judging. No wonder she stopped trying to be friends with us." Elena turned around and walked away. I stood there stunned.
"I was not expecting Elena to take my side." I muttered under my breath.
"That's because Elena chose Damon over Stefan. The less favorable brother." Nik commented. So, Elena finally chose after all. Here I thought she was going to pull a Katherine.
I turned to Nik, "You also know something that I don't about Elena and Damon. What is it?" Nik gave me another smirk.
"Let's grab that bottle of wine and sit by the pond. Then I'll tell you." Nik stated.
"So you mind telling me what you know that I don't?" I asked Nik. We walked across the grass and towards the stone bench by the pond.
"You tell me. Elena has been doing anything that Damon has been telling her to do recently. Damon says not to worry about Jeremy and Elena does just that." I furrowed my brows until it hit me.
"She's sired to Damon." I said in shock. Nik nodded with a smirk on his face.
"Does that mean her feelings for Damon are fake?" Nik shook his head.
"Sire bonds only affect a vampire's actions. Not their feelings. I know that all too well with how much attitude I get from my hybrids." Nik mentioned.
"Once Caroline and the others figure that out, they'll want the cure even more." I informed Nik. I took a seat on the stone bench. Nik sat down next to me and set down the glasses next to him.
"I'm working on that, but with how quickly you're progressing with Callista. I might not care for the cure anymore." Nik stated and started to tear off the wrapper of the wine.
"Speaking of the cure. Humor me here. Would you ever take it?" I asked genuinely curious.
"Now, why would I want to cure myself of being the most powerful creature on the planet? Hm?" Nik responded.
"There's not a single moment in your long one thousand years of life that you thought about being human?" I asked in disbelief.
Nik looked me in the eye as he popped off the cork of the wine bottle.
"I technically wouldn't be human if I took the cure. I'd be a werewolf that would be forced to turn every full moon. I rather like having the choice to turn or not." Nik said and started to pour the wine into the glasses.
"It doesn't have to be painful. Turning that is. You've seen me go into a full shift. It takes me seconds." I informed Nik.
Nik paused and looked like he was thinking, "How then?" He asked and handed me my glass. He started to pour his own glass.
"Because most wolves think about the pain of every bone breaking in their body when they turn. The key is not to fight the pain but accept it. Once a wolf accepts the pain it takes a matter of seconds rather than hours to turn. That's something that every wolf, no matter the species, can learn." I told Nik.
"You've never told me how you can fully shift into a wolf. You sprung that out at me, literally." Nik joked at me. He set the wine bottle down and took a sip of his wine.
"It's something that only born werewolf bloodlines can do. Not bitten ones. It's called evolving. I'm technically known as what's called an Evolved Werewolf. Meaning I can turn into a full wolf at will. I wasn't always able to do that." I told him and took a sip from my glass.
"Then how do you evolve?" I took a deep breath. He wasn't going to like my answer.
"I had to die." I softly answered.
"What?" Nik asked, anger hidden in his voice.
"In order for my kind to evolve, we have to die. Back in Beacon Hills, I was killed by the leader of the Argent's. Gerard Argent. He took me by surprise in an alleyway at night. He stabbed me in the chest with a weapon coated in wolfsbane and left me to bleed out. Which I did. I bled out and the next thing I remember is waking up in the middle of the forest naked and covered in blood. I found out later that I had turned into an actual wolf and killed Gerard for killing me out of pure instinct. I was confused as to what happened until my uncle explained evolution for werewolves to me." I explained to Nik.
"You don't remember turning?" Nik asked in surprise.
I shook my head, "I had absolutely no control of myself. Apparently it's a right of passage according to my uncle. The same thing happened to my mom when she evolved."
"Your mother was an Evolved Werewolf as well?" I nodded my head.
"And apparently so is Derek. He told me about it earlier. I about punched him since he never called me and told me." Nik started to chuckle.
"I have a much more mutual respect for your brother now after today's events. He's fiercely protective of you and Cora." Nik stated.
"The three of us are all we have left. He lost Laura just as much as I did. He doesn't want to lose another sibling and I don't plan on losing him either. I'd go to hell and back for my brother." Nik smiled and placed his free hand on top of mine that rested on the bench.
"That's one of the many reasons why I love you. You're loyal to your family and your friends. You're someone that is dependable." Nik complimented.
"Some would say I am loyal to a fault." I added. Nik smiled and nodded in agreement.
Nik gently rubbed circles on the back of my hand, "I never answered your question; if I ever thought about being human. Once, I was on a trek in the Andes, and a hummingbird flew up to me. It just hovered there, staring at me, its tiny heart was pattering like a machine gun. And I thought, what a thing, you know, to have to work that hard every day just to stay alive. To be constantly on the verge of death and how satisfying every day must be that it survived. That was the only time I thought about being human." Nik answered honestly. I rotated my wrist so my palm would be against his and I intertwined our fingers.
"What about you? You were human before your werewolf powers triggered. Have you thought about a cure to Lycanthropy? To be human again?" Nik asked, looking me in the eyes.
"I was human but I wasn't raised like one. The werewolf world is survival of the fittest. Most humans don't survive that kind of world. That's why my mother trained us so extensively. So we could survive until our powers triggered. Besides, there's no cure to Lycanthropy. Well for wolves that are born with their powers. Bitten ones are different. It's rumored if a bitten werewolf kills the one that bit them, they'll revert back to being a human. I've never seen it though." I stated.
"You didn't answer my question, love." Nik stated.
"If I could be an actual human and live a life like one? No. I love being a wolf too much. I can still do anything a human can do. Go to school, make friends, fall in love, start a family, and so much more." I answered.
Nik looked down at our hands, "That's one thing I can't do for you." He said solemnly.
"Do what?" I asked in confusion.
"To start a family. Vampires can't procreate." Nik stated.
I gave Nik a soft smile and leaned against him and laid my head on his shoulder.
"I know that and that's fine. You're all I need. Besides, I've never really seen myself as a mother." I commented.
"You'd be a great one. Seeing how protective you are of me. Imagine how protective you would be of your own flesh and blood. I wouldn't want to mess with you." Nik retorted and I felt him kiss the top of my head.
I laughed at his last comment. After a comfortable moment of silence I spoke up, "You want to go ahead and get out of here?" I asked Nik and lifted my head off his shoulder.
"I would love to. I'd rather be at home with you right now then here." Nik said and gave me a chaste kiss. We broke the kiss and set our glasses on the stone bench and stood up. We were leaving as Carol and Caroline were getting on stage. Probably to announce the winner. Not that I really cared.
I got the feeling I was being watched though. I looked over my shoulder and saw Tyler glaring at me while he stood next to Hayley. He really hated me now.
I splashed water on my face and leaned my hands on the bathroom counter. I stared at my reflection in the mirror with my thoughts racing. I can't get that look that Tyler gave me out of my head. He really hates me, but like it or not for him. I still promised Mason I'd look after him.
I grabbed the towel laying on the counter and used it to dry my face. I dropped the towel back on the counter and grabbed my phone as I turned off the light. I walked out of the bedroom and headed downstairs.
My bare feet padded against the hardwood floor of Nik's art studio. Nik had his back to me and was facing a blank canvas. I slumped onto the chaise.
"Someone's moping." Nik stated and kept his focus on the canvas.
"Tyler officially hates me." I said and put my arm behind my head.
"Welcome to the club." I gave Nik an unamused look while he grinned at me.
"Not funny. I made a promise to his uncle that I'd look after him. This makes it harder to do that." I turned my head and Nik was still focused on that canvas.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"The Winter Wonderland Charity event is in two days. Carol knows of my talents and asked me to make a piece to be sold at the auction." That's right, I forgot about that.
"That never made sense to me to have a winter themed charity event in the middle of fall." I mentioned.
"Supposedly all donations go to help families afford Christmas." Now that made sense.
"Well, you have fun figuring out what to paint. I'm going to bed." I announced and stood up from the chaise.
I walked over to him and placed a kiss on his cheek, "Night."
"Good night, love." Nik said back as I headed for the staircase.
I walked into the bedroom when I heard my phone's notification ring go off. I checked my phone and my eyes widened as I read the following text.
'I look forward to meeting you, Allye Hale.' A picture of me at the Miss Mystic Falls was also attached. It's from Callista. She's here.
Happy Valentine's Day! I thought I'd post a chapter of our favorite couple. Looks like Caroline is trying to mend the friendship with Allye but still can't accept Klaus and her dating still. Derek shows just how protective he can be with his sisters. He was ready to tear Tyler's head off then and there. Klaus and Allye have a heart to heart. Including that topic of starting a family, something Allye always dreamed that would happen to her. However, Klaus is part vampire can't procreate...or can he? ;) Little foreshadowing there for you.
