I woke up to the sound of a heart beat in my ear. My eyes slowly opened. I turned my head to see Nik fast asleep under me. At some point in the night, we made it to the bedroom. A soft smile grew on my face as I saw how peaceful he looked while sleeping.

I gently moved his arm that was around me off. I quietly got out of bed, careful not to wake up Nik. I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and saw I had a message from Derek.

'Come to the Gilbert's when you see this. Something happened last night.'

I frowned at this and looked back at Nik's sleeping form. I quietly got myself new clothes from the closet. I ran my fingers through my hair to make it look less messy. I grabbed a notepad and quickly scribbled down a note for Nik. Telling him Derek needed me and that I would be back later. I grabbed my keys and phone and quietly headed out for the door.

I pulled up to the Gilbert Residence and saw Stefan, Caroline, and Derek standing out on the porch. I opened the driver's side door and got out.

"Hey, I got your text. I came over as soon as I read it. What happened?" I asked. That's when the stench hit me. I froze recognizing that scent. The scent of death.

Derek gave me a somber look, "You smell it?" I nodded my head slowly.

"Who died?" I asked, afraid to know the answer.

"Jeremy did." Stefan answered. My heart dropped hearing that. Not Jer.

"How's Elena doing?" I asked with sadness in my voice. Stefan gave me a look.

"I might not be a fan of Elena, Stefan, but that doesn't mean I'm heartless. She lost her brother. No one should have to feel that pain." I scolded Stefan.

"Elena is in major denial. She thinks the Gilbert ring will bring him back." Caroline answered.

"She knows that it only works on humans. The moment Jer became a Hunter, he became a supernatural being." I shook my head, "The ring won't work." Caroline nodded.

"She knows." Stefan answered, "We called Dr. Fell. She'll be here to get his body."

"Where's Cora?" I asked Derek.

"She stayed on the island to help find Bonnie. She went missing last night when she went to look for Jeremy." Derek answered me.

I heard the sound of multiple car engines approaching. I turned around to see not only Dr. Fell pulling up but also Matt.

"You called Matt?" I asked in the direction of Caroline. She nodded sadly and watched as the two humans got out of their vehicles.

I stepped back to get off the sidewalk and said nothing as Dr. Fell and Matt walked past me. My phone started to go off.

"I need to take this. I'll be there in a second." I told Derek, Stefan, and Caroline. They were heading inside after Dr. Fell.

I answered the phone, already knowing who it was. "Morning. You read my note?" I asked.

"I did. What happened that was so important you left me all alone in this bed, hm?" I rolled my eyes at his teasing.

"Jeremy Gilbert is dead." I told him. Silence on the other end, "Nik?"

"You don't want to know what I'm thinking right now, love. You won't like it." Nik answered honestly.

"I kind of guessed Jeremy was the one that killed Kol. How else can you explain him completing his hunter's mark in just a couple of days."

"As the saying goes. An eye for an eye. A brother for a brother." I let out a sigh.

"I'll be home later, Nik." I told him.

"Don't be too long, love." With that I hung up the phone and headed inside the house.

I headed upstairs towards Jeremy's room. I stopped at the doorway where I saw Elena and Matt embracing. Elena let go of Matt and stared at me.

"Allye...you're back." Elena started out. I let out a small smile and nodded.

I was taken back when Elena walked over to me and hugged me. I hesitantly returned the hug. I'm not too sure why this was happening right now.

I turned my head to see Jeremy's body lying in the bed. Elena released from the hug and noticed me staring at Jeremy.

"He'll be back. It took some time for Ric to come back too." I turned my gaze to Stefan, Dr. Fell, Derek, and Matt. We all had the same look.

"Hey Elena, let's head downstairs. I'll make you some tea." Matt offered. His eyes were still glistening with tears. Elena nodded and let Matt lead her out of the room.

I slowly walked over to Jeremy's body and placed one hand on top of his. They were ice cold to touch.

"I'm bumping the A/C. We're not going to be able to leave him here for much longer." Dr. Fell announced and walked out of the room.

"It's funny. We're surrounded by death every day, but it still gets you when it's somebody you know." I said solemnly.

"Yeah, I know. I've been alive for almost two centuries. You'd think the amount of people I've seen die, it would hurt less each time. Never does." Stefan said in agreement.

"No, it doesn't. I think it's even worse when you see someone in denial. When reality finally hits them, it doesn't end well. All we can do is just prepare for it when it does happen." Derek added to the conversation.

I heard the front door open and close, followed by the sound of Matt's truck starting. He's getting her out of the house. Good. She needs it.

Stefan's phone started to go off. Stefan picked it up in front of us, "Did you find her?" Stefan asked.

"We're still looking. How is she?" I heard Damon's voice on the other end.

"She's losing it, Damon. We can do what we can to delay things here, but we've got to get Jeremy to the morgue before it gets ugly." Stefan advised.

"Damn it. I can't...I can't just leave her behind. I can't...I can't show up without Bonnie." Damon said.

"If you need to go, then go. I can stay behind and continue to search for her." I heard Cora's voice.

"Cora's right, Damon. At this point, the sire bond is probably the only thing that's gonna keep Elena together. I can go back and help Cora search." Stefan told Damon.

"I'm on my way." Damon said then hung up the line.

"I could go with you, Stefan. I'm a better tracker than Cora." I offered.

Stefan went to open his mouth but was interrupted by his phone again. He frowned and answered his phone.

"What happened?" He asked.

"Change of plans. Bonnie found us. She's saying she knows how to bring Jeremy back. Call the pilot to get us the hell out of here as soon as we're off this island." I heard Damon say.

"All right." Stefan hung up the phone and the three of us shared glances.

"How can Bonnie possibly bring somebody back from the dead?" I asked in a disbelieving tone.

Stefan shook his head, "I don't know but I need to call Elena." Stefan said and left the room with his phone.

"This sounds too good to be true." Derek commented.

"You and I both, brother." I answered, sighing.

"Now." I turned to Derek, "You have some explaining to do." I gave my brother a look.

"Really? Now?" Derek crossed his arms and gave me a hard stare.

I let out a sigh, "Fine, let's go outside and talk." I walked out of the bedroom and Derek followed behind.

"So this Callista is our ancestor? And she had a witch perform a spell on you that makes you like her. An Original Werewolf." Derek verified.

I nodded, "Yes, she's the start of the Hale line. And yes again, I'm like her now. This is what Nik and I were after. To make me immortal. I'm sorry I never told you or Cora about this." I apologized.

Derek shook his head, "No, I get it. You want to be with your mate forever. In your case, forever is a very long time." I couldn't help but smile.

"Are you and Megan..?" I trailed off.

"Mates?" Derek thought about it and slowly nodded, "I think so. She couldn't come with us to the island. She was on my mind every second on that island. I felt like I was missing something when we were apart for that long."

"Go to her." I told Derek.

"I can't just leave, Al." Derek tried to argue.

I shook my head, "If you're here for me, it's okay. Jer was my friend but I'll be okay. I know how it feels to be away from your mate so long that it starts to hurt. Go." Derek let out a sigh and opened his arms.

I smiled and walked over and hugged my brother, "Tell Megan 'hi' for me, okay?" My voice was muffled slightly from his jacket that was in my face.

"I will. Call me if you need me." Derek said and walked off to his car. I watched him get into his car and waved at him as he drove by.

I looked to see the sun was starting to set. I hadn't realized I had been here all day.

"You heading home?" Stefan's voice sounded behind me.

I turned around, "Yeah. I need to get home before Nik flips his lid. I've been gone long enough already." Stefan gave me an amused look and nodded his head.

"You being gone, made me realize just how much you affect Klaus." I looked at Stefan curiously, "He's...different with you around. Not as villainous, I should say." I scoffed and rolled my eyes.

"I'm serious, Al. You should have seen him with you gone. He went back to being the Klaus that forced us to go with him for that whole summer." Stefan said seriously.

I nodded, "Love does mysterious things, Stef." I added.

Stefan chuckled, "I agree with you there. Night, Al."

"Night, Stef." I said goodbye and headed for my own car.

I walked into the front door of the mansion and set my keys on the server. The sun had set by the time I got home. The night sky was already out. I made my way to the kitchen. I hadn't eaten all day. I needed something in my stomach.

I opened the fridge to see what there was. I felt a presence behind me then two arms that snaked around my waist.

"You've been out all day." I heard Nik say as he nuzzled his face in the crook of my neck.

"Derek wanted to talk about what happened when I was gone. By the time we finished I realized how late it had gotten." I leaned into Nik. He backed us up and I heard the sound of the fridge door closing.

"Hm, you owe me a date night now for being so late." I chuckled at that and turned around in Nik's arms.

"How about we do it now then? I haven't eaten all day." Nik smiled and tucked my black hair behind my ear.

"I'll grab my keys then. You still need to tell me more about Callista." Nik reminded me. He let go of my waist and grabbed my hand to lead me to the front of the house. He grabbed his keys from the server and opened the door.

"Ladies first." I grinned and walked by.

"Such a gentleman." Nik chuckled.

"For you, love. Always."

I was in a booth munching on what remained of my dinner. Hamburger and french fries. I had told Nik everything that happened with Callista. He had gotten up earlier to get himself a drink from the bar.

I got pulled out of my thoughts when my phone rang. I picked it up and frowned seeing 'Stefan' on the caller ID. I answered it as Nik came back with a glass of bourbon.

"Hey Stefan." I greeted. Nik tilted his head in curiosity but remained silent.

"I'd asked if you were alone but I know better by now. Is Klaus listening?" My eyes shifted to Nik who had a smirk on his face.

"Yes. He is. What's going on?"

"It's about Bonnie. Remember how she told Damon she can bring back Jeremy?"

"Yeah."

"Well apparently how she's planning on doing it is by dropping the veil to the Other Side." Nik and I shared a look.

"What do you mean by dropping the veil?" I asked, confused.

"The veil is what separates our world and the Other Side. If that goes down then every single supernatural creature that has died will be back."

"That's crazy talk. There's no way Bonnie could do that." I said in denial.

"She kept telling Damon that she's the only one that can do it but she apparently has to kill another twelve people to complete the expression triangle."

"Yeah, now I'm really not believing this. Bonnie would never do that." I said and leaned back in the booth.

"I hope you're right, Al." Stefan hung up and I sighed and put my phone on the table.

I looked at Nik and he raised his brows as he took a sip of his bourbon. "Well, that's an interesting development." I frowned at him.

"You're not worried about every supernatural creature that died coming back?" I asked, skeptically.

Nik grinned, "Not really. For one, I agree with you regarding Bonnie's ability to actually do it. And second, we're both immortal. Our enemies couldn't kill us." I still had an uneasy feeling in my gut about that.

"The second bit doesn't make me feel any better." I retorted and gave him a tight lip smile.

Nik set down his bourbon and grabbed my hand, "I wouldn't let anything happen to you love." He comforted and rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand.

I nodded, "Well I'm done. Finish your drink so we can get home." Nik winked at me as he downed the rest of his bourbon. He opened his wallet and tossed a hundred dollar bill on the table. He held out his hand and I took it. He led me outside the Grill and headed back home.

The rest of the Mystic Falls gang is back well all except for one. Allye's sadden by Jeremy's death. They weren't close but they were friends.
