Chapter 3
~Normal POV~
I rode quite a ways away from the island. How was it that I didn't remember such tragedy as my whole entire freakin village became zombies? You'd think one would remember such awfulness as that. So, my whole family was part of that... that just puts the icing right on the cake doesn't it... ugh, I hate this. Now I'm all alone, no friends or family. ~thinks about the others who I just met~ Well, they're not really friends are they? Just acquaintances, right? I dunno... What about them, do they consider me a friend, or an acquaintance, like they are to me? I dock my boat to a new island and break it, putting it in my inventory.
I wander around the island. Once it became almost dark, I found no village and this island isn't as big. Maybe the next one. I dig a small cave for myself to sleep in for the night and I build a campfire. Hmm... Sparky gave me some campfire chicken when he rescued me. I liked that quite a lot. Maybe I'll go and see if I can find some chickens to eat. I am getting quite hungry. Heck, I haven't eaten since 2 days ago. Yikes... it's really been that long since I ate? Well, it's not like it's new to me, I've gone a couple days without eating before. Water is really easy to come by. Duh, there are a majority of islands. I have really only found two big masses of land in my travels.
In my search, I found a good amount of chickens so I was able to get quite a good amount of meat. I felt a little bad... I never wanted to harm any animals to get food, but having had the campfire chicken Sparky gave me, how could I resist anymore? I head back to my little cave and cook the chicken on the campfire. As it's cooking, I wonder what the others are doing? Probably getting their dinner and settling in for the night just like I am. When the chicken's done, it pops off the campfire and I take it into my inventory. I eat a few pieces, and boy is it just as good as when Sparky gave me some 2 days ago. So with a full stomach and the events of the day, I am able to get to sleep real quick. In the morning, I fully miss the comfort of the bed I slept in at Sparky's place.
After many more months of being away and travelling to many more islands, seeing more of the world, I take down my campfire one morning and I put it in my inventory and I decide to go back to Sparky's place. I go to the shore of my current island and place my boat down in the water. I get in and head off for Sparky's island. I watch the ocean life below me and smile. The ocean can be really pretty sometimes, if you're in the right area. The coral, the aquatic life, though the pufferfish are no fun... I love the dolphins. They're so cute. They're very playful and curious. In what felt like no time, I arrived at Sparky's island. I got out of my boat, but didn't break it, and looked around his island. No one's here... I sigh, well, time to go then. I don't wanna be suspicious. I go back to my boat when I heard someone behind me. I turn around, bringing out my sword.
"Oh, Ianite, it's just you. Please don't sneak up behind me like that. I've had way too many bad experiences to have someone doing that.", I said as I put my sword away.
"'Just me'? ~smiles~ I joke, but I should have figured that you'd draw your weapon. I apologize. So, your adventure months ago led you to learn of the fate of your village. For that, I truly am sorry for your loss. That must be very hard."
I take a deep breath and nod. "Yes... it is very hard. I mean, I had some suspicions, but to actually see that that's what happened, it really sucks... excuse my language."
"No need to apologize, I understand. Would you like to talk about it?" I thought.
"Sure why not? It's been a while, I haven't actually talked to anyone about it at all. Is there anywhere to sit?"
"Yes, follow me." She takes me to the other side of the island where there are a few umbrellas and towels looking over the ocean and we sit under one of the umbrellas. "So, what are you feeling?"
I look out over the ocean. "Sad... a little upset that this had to happen to me... like, why me? How am I the only surviving villager? Shouldn't there have been even a few more survivors? How did this even happen in the first place? Did you, Mianite, and Dianite know this? Did you three know that happened? If you did, why didn't you stop it? I could have my family, my village. I wouldn't be alone. I wouldn't be hungry all the time. I wouldn't have had a hard time these past 16 years." By the time I was through venting, there were tears going down my face.
"Are you blaming us?"
"No, well, I'm not trying to, but... if you knew, why didn't you intervene?"
"We didn't. We, as well as the others whom you have met, just arrived to this world not long before we met you. We'd only been here for a few months, maybe half a year by then. ~slightest of slight chuckles~ When you're an immortal, time just disappears and sometimes you don't know what day it is or even what year it is. Though, my guess would be that it happened so that you could meet other people. Tell me Lucky Fire, would you have gone off your island if your village still existed?" That got me thinking. Would I have? Probably not...
"I don't think I would have, but why give me a tragedy to get me off my lazy bum and make friends elsewhere? Wouldn't the others have visited my island at some point? Maybe I'd have listened to their stories and wanted to tag along."
"But you see how long it took us to come here. You're almost 30. It probably would have been best for you to have met us when you were younger. Now, you being 13 when all this happened does indeed make it rough, I will agree. I really don't know what to say to that other than I'm sorry it happened so early in your life."
"You don't have to be sorry. There's nothing anyone could have done. As I had told the guys, my village was never prepared for emergencies such as zombie attacks... I wonder how though? ~thinks back to the night of the attack... oh no...~ I was still awake... I was staring out of my window at the ocean, desiring to travel the world one day when I was older... well, I got my wish... at the expense of my whole village..." I clutched the towel I was sitting on in my fists and there was a scowl on my face.
"Now Lucky, don't go blaming yourself. Every young person dreams of seeing the world beyond their home. You're no different."
I sighed. "I suppose... I just didn't have the best timing of dreaming of seeing the world. Y'know Ianite, I might just give up travelling. I might just stick around here. Go on adventures with the guys when they have them. That'll be the only travelling I do anymore. I think I've seen enough of the world. Heh, this talk really helped me out. Thank you Ianite. I feel a lot better." I give a small smile and she smiled back.
"I'm glad I could help you out and I'm glad I could see you smile. You were so formal when we first met. It took me by surprise."
"Well, I didn't want to be rude to one of the gods of this world. You deserve respect."
"I appreciate it Lucky, but you can think of me as a friend. You don't have to be so formal." We both stood up as we finish our conversation.
"If you say so. Um, may I give you a hug, to go along with my 'thank you'?" She smiled kindly and nodded. I give her a hug, then I take a step back. "So, how often do you visit?"
"Not too often, but often enough to help Sparklez out if he needs it."
"Sparky needs help sometimes?"
"'Sparky' huh? Yup, everyone needs help sometimes. Yes, it looks like he's got it all together, but sometimes things don't go our way, as you very well know, and he needs help. As his god, it's my duty to help him if and when he asks."
"'His god'? The three of you aren't everyone's gods collectively?"
"He didn't tell you that when he told you everything when you first met? ~I shook my head~ Hmm, well, yes. Tom followed Dianite at first but now he follows me, Sparklez follows me, and Karl follows Mianite. Now that you'll be sticking around, you should meet Mianite and Dianite, see who you'd prefer to follow."
"I honestly think I'd rather follow you. Your follower, Sparky, showed me such kindness when he rescued and I've met you already, and you yourself are very kind. Tom seems nice enough so far, so I think I've already chosen."
"Very well, welcome to Team Ianite, as the guys are calling it." She held out a hand and I shook it.
"Thank you for having me on your team." She grinned, nodded once, and disappeared. I blinked twice. Ok, off she goes I guess. I just grinned and shook my head. I sit in my boat, waiting for Sparky to appear.
'He won't be here tonight, you might as well go into your room.'
"What?! Ianite? I thought you left? Wait, it wasn't out loud... was it?"
'We all can speak telepathically to one another. You must be able to, now that you're one of us.'
I try. 'Ok, so I can go in. What about if someone appears then sees me? They might think I'm being suspicious.'
'Don't worry. I'll back you up.'
'Ok, thanks.'
'You're welcome. Good night.'
'Night.' Well, that's new. Well... she did just say only they, and now me now that I'm part of their group, can speak telepathically. I get out of my boat, break it, put it in my inventory and then go into the tower. I go up the water elevator to my floor and see that it's exactly how I left it. He must have counted on me coming back I guess. That or he was hoping. I sat on my bed and looked around my room. Hmm, maybe I should have my own island. I don't wanna bum off of Sparky forever. Well, next time I see him, I'll tell him I would like to find my own island near here. I then lay back and stare at the ceiling for a while, then I end up falling asleep. I couldn't help it, the bed's just too comfy.
