Elena searched around the room for something sharp. Her eyes landed on the chandelier that was shining brightly. Her hand unconsciously went to her stomach.

She hated herself for what she was planning to do, but it had to be done. There was no other way to get herself and Jenna out of this. She would never forgive herself for the wicked act she was about to commit.

She was not only taking her own life, she was taking an innocent baby's life as well. Elena hadn't been sure about how she had gotten pregnant, but it didn't take her long to figure it out. When she broke the bond and had gotten her memories back, it had confirmed everything.

Elena wasn't sure how Klaus could get her pregnant, but it didn't matter the baby would end up dead either way.

At least the way she chose no one would ever know about the baby. Elena was sure that Klaus hadn't even known about it.

As Elena grabbed a single sharp crystal off the chandelier she swore to herself that she would take this secret with her to the grave, if she ever had one.

Elena's eyes shot open, looking around frantically. She let out a sigh when she realized she had just been dreaming.

She wished all of this could be a dream, that she would wake up in her own bed as her mom would fix breakfast. She deeply missed that, a world without vampires or anything supernatural.

Pure ignorance that would surely get her killed in this world. Just like it had gotten her unborn baby killed, or had that been a pure coincidence? A means to survival?

Either way, she wasn't going to let that happen again. Even if it killed her, she would not be under anyone's control.

She only had herself to depend on, and she hated every second of it. Always the one to lose the most, to cause the most death.

The curse of the Petrova doppelgänger… maybe it was time for her to accept it, perhaps even revel in it as Katherine does.

She quickly reminds herself that she is not Katherine. Sometimes she wishes she was, Katherine took everything Elena had without Elena even noticing until it was too late.

She doesn't resent Katherine for it, instead, she resents herself. Maybe if she had been a better friend, her friends would've chosen her… the love of her life would've chosen her. Instead, they chose Katherine…

She had gone back to Mystic Falls a week ago, she saw the smiles on her friend's faces as they talked to Katherine. She didn't want to admit it, but it hurt like hell.

Knowing that she was so easily replaceable, damaged her heart. She had put that moment with the rest of the heartbreaking moments in her life that she had yet to cope with.

By doing that, she unknowingly set herself up for a disaster just waiting to happen.

It had been an estimated amount of three days since she last had a blood bag, and the hunger was driving her insane. Elena glanced out the window that had been placed far away from her, up at the starry night sky. She wondered how long she had been sleeping.

Elena stood up, slightly aware of the tear that slid down her cheek. She looked at the small abandoned cabin one last time before she left.

She ambles through the snow as if it was second nature to her, perhaps it was.

Elena suddenly stopped as the smell of blood filled her senses, it practically overwhelmed her. She had begun to follow the smell without even realizing it. When she came to her senses it was too late.

She found herself face to face with a little boy, he was no more than 12 years old. The boy's face held pure terror as he looked at her, her monstrous features. He was so young, but Elena couldn't stop herself from inching towards the child.

Elena was now hovering over the frightened little boy, her gums itching to sink into his skin and take his blood.

"Just a taste." she promised herself.

It was an empty promise, and deep down in her heart, she knew that it was.

She gently grabbed the child's arm and licked the blood off the wound, reveling in the taste of blood. Without realizing it, her fangs attached to the boy's arm. Her sharp fangs tore his skin in an attempt to find a vein.

Elena ignored his cries as she finally found his vein. His cries slowly stopped as she drained every last drop of blood out of his body.

Elena stood up, looking down upon the lifeless little boy. She felt nothing for the poor innocent boy she just killed, she wondered if she was in shock.

Perhaps her heart couldn't comprehend what she had done, or maybe this is what happens when pain piles on top of more pain.

It didn't take her long to realize that it wasn't Klaus who had broken her.

It was her who had broken herself.
