Elena woke up with a gasp as her eyes scanned the room. The bed she was on had been covered in white sheets, the walls were painted beige, and there was a tall lamp in the room. In Elena's opinion, the room was basic, there was nothing special about it. She turned her attention to the wooden door as her attacker entered the room.
"Elijah." Elena greeted.
Elijah didn't respond, he only eyed her as if he was trying to figure her out. When he was satisfied with whatever answer he had come up with he sighed.
"You've turned off your humanity." Elijah noted.
"I have." Elena answered with a slight smirk.
"I see." Elijah replied.
"What? You're not going to try to get me to turn it back on?" Elena asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
"You'll turn it on when you're ready." Elijah announced.
"So that's it? No threats? No compulsion?" Elena questioned.
"All I ask is that you stop killing." Elijah informed.
"And what if I don't stop?" Elena challenged.
"Well, that is something you don't want to find out, lovely Elena." Elijah assured, walking to the living room.
"So what now?" Elena asked as she hopped off the bed to follow him.
Elena sighed at the look of confusion etched on Elijah's face.
"It's clear you won't let me go anywhere on my own… not to mention I seemed to have pissed Klaus off." Elena said with a giggle.
Elijah narrowed his eyes at her comment but decided not to mention it.
"I suppose we should get going." Elijah stated, beginning to walk out the door.
"I can't… not now." Elena informed.
"And why not?" Elijah questioned.
"I don't have a daylight ring." Elena confessed, holding up her hands.
"You didn't get your witch friend to make you one?" Elijah asked.
"He refused." Elena said with a shrug.
"Stay here, I'll be back." Elijah instructed as he walked out the door.
Elena sighed and threw herself back on the sofa. She stared at the ceiling as her eyes slowly closed.
—————————-
"Elena." A voice called.
Elena's eyes snapped open, and her eyes searched the room as she tried to steady her breathing. She slowly got up from her bed, preparing to attack.
Wait… her bed? Why is she in her room? More importantly, why was she back here?
"Elena."
Elena instantly turned around at the sound of the voice. She paused, as millions of questions ran through her head.
She quickly stopped herself when she felt her emotions trying to break through. She let out a shaky breath as she composed herself.
"Why are you here? What do you want?" Elena asked.
"We need to talk, Elena." Jenna said, gently grabbing Elena's arm.
Elena snatched her arm away from Jenna before turning away from her.
"I don't want to hear it. Whatever it is you want to say." Elena declared as she folded her arms.
"You're lying." Jenna commented.
"I'm not. I just don't care about anything you have to say." Elena corrected.
Suddenly Jenna disappeared and the room was covered in darkness.
"But you do want to care, don't you?" A voice asked as she felt a cold hand on her shoulder.
"Yes." Elena breathed, it was almost like she had been compelled to answer.
"And why is that?" The voice asked.
"Because I want…" Elena stopped.
"Tell me, child, what is it that you want." The voice demanded.
"I want Klaus Mikaelson to suffer for everything he's done to me." Elena confessed.
"So why don't you turn it on. After all, it's the only way to get what we both want. Trust me, I am on your side." the voice suggested as the hand moved from her shoulder to her neck, tracing her jugular vein.
Elena was hit with an overwhelming need to do as it said, she slowly closed her eyes and…
"No! Get out of my head Ester!" Elena yelled.
—————————-
Elena opened her eyes to find Elijah over her, holding a cold towel on top of her head. Elena went to speak but Elijah held a finger up to her lips.
"When I got back you were burning up, which isn't normal for a vampire. Tell me, what exactly happened while you were asleep." Elijah demanded.
"Nothing." Elena answered sitting up, only to be pushed back down by Elijah.
"You have to be honest with me, Elena." Elijah informed.
Even as a vampire, he could tell when she was lying. Sensing that it was a losing fight Elena sighed.
"I don't want to talk about it, okay?" Elena explained, looking into his eyes.
Elijah stared back into her eyes, getting lost in them. The moment he swore he saw a little emotion swimming in her eyes Elena cleared her throat and raised an eyebrow at him.
"You will have to tell me one day." Elijah told her as he pulled out a small black box.
"What's that?" Elena asked.
Without saying anything Elijah placed the small box in her hands. Elena looked at him curiously before opening the box.
She narrowed her eyes on the silver ring. Her eyes scanned the pieces of diamonds on it, before moving to the center of the ring which had a piece of lapis lazuli carved into a heart.
"It's beautiful." Elena said apathetically.
"I'm delighted to hear that seeing as you will have to wear that for the rest of your immortal life." Elijah explained with a small sigh.
Elijah watched her as she stared at the ring. He had thought that he was beginning to break through to her, but it certainly did not seem that way.
"May I?" Elijah asked, breaking the silence.
Elena paused and looked up at him before slowly nodding her head. Elijah took her hand and slid the ring on slowly, meeting her eyes as he did it. He placed a gentle kiss on the back of her hand before standing up.
"It looks lovely on you, shall we head out." Elijah commented.
"We shall." Elena replied, following Elijah out the door.
—————————-
"This isn't right." Stefan confessed as he paced around the room with a stack of news articles in his hand.
"You can't seriously believe Elena's the one behind these killings." Katherine said as she watched him carefully.
"If it's not her, then why did Klaus follow the trails? They were supposed to be fake Katherine!" Stefan yelled.
"I'm telling you that the person who is doing this is not sweet, poor, defenseless Elena. Why do you refuse to believe me?" Katherine asked as she placed her hand on his cheek.
"What about Klaus?" Stefan asked.
"He's just grasping at straws." Katherine said dismissively.
"How can we be sure Elena's safe?" Stefan questioned, sounding hopeless.
"Why are you so worried about her?" Katherine asked as jealousy found its way into her heart.
Stefan quickly noticed this and shook his head.
"It's not like that, it's just… I'm the reason she's in this situation-" Stefan confessed before getting interrupted.
"We did what we had to do." Katherine assured.
"But it wasn't fair to her." Stefan explained.
"Are you not happy with our relationship? Do I not make you happy?" Katherine asked.
"Of course you do, I love you." Stefan answered.
"Then stop worrying about her." Katherine replied.
Before he could say another word Katherine kissed him. The kiss was desperate, needy, and possessing. Needless to say, Stefan enjoyed every second of it and soon everything he had been worried about was forgotten. The only person on his mind now was Katherine, his beautiful Katherine.
