Elena looked outside the window as Elijah drove the car. She looked down at her ring before looking at Elijah.

"So, where are we going?" Elena asked.

"Utah." Elijah answered.

"Oh." Elena said, turning her attention back to the window.

"How is Jeremy?" Elijah asked.

"I don't know he left me a while ago." Elena informed, not showing a hint of any emotion.

"I'm sure he's okay." Elijah assured.

"It's not like I care." Elena said dismissively.

"So you say." Elijah replies.

Elena leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes, knowing that they were going to be on the road for a while.

--

Elijah pulled into the driveway of a modern 2-story colonial brick house. He looked over to Elena, who was still sleeping, and he couldn't resist the smile that came across his face.

"No, I won't do it." Elena mummers in her sleep.

Elijah wondered what she could possibly be dreaming about. Just as he was about to wake her up, he heard a name that he thought he would never hear again.

"Ester." Elena mummers, as she begins to stir in her sleep.

Elijah pauses and furrows his eyebrows at her. Before he could do anything, Elena's eyes shot open. She seemed to be frozen in place as she stared silently at the full moon. He was shocked when he saw tears in Elena's eyes.

Elena let out a shaky breath as pain, guilt, and regret flooded her mind. Elijah pulled her into his arms as she let out a gut-wrenching sob, he could only imagine the pain she was going through. All he could do was whisper sweet nothings in her ears as she cried, he had never felt completely and utterly useless until now.

Elena clings to Elijah as he carries her into the house. He sits her down on the couch before sitting next to her. She leans her head against his shoulder trying her best to stop crying. Her eyes betray her as her tears flow more violently. Elijah wraps his arms around her body and they stay like that until Elena falls asleep.

--

Elena wakes up in a bedroom she had never seen before. The walls were gray, 1 large painting was hanging above the bed, to the side of the bed were 2 matching gray end tables that held 2 matching lamps and other various items. The bed itself was gray, while there were plain white sheets on top of it.

The small knocks on the door caught her attention. She looked down making sure she was decently dressed before telling him he can come in. Elijah entered the room with a worried expression on his face. He seemed hesitant to talk, unsure of what to say to her, and scared he might say the wrong thing. She senses this, so she is the first one to speak.

"Thank you, for everything." Elena's voice came out raspy and hoarse.

Elijah nodded to her and smiled softly before he sat next to her on the bed.

"How are you feeling?" Elijah asks.

"I feel horrible, Elijah." Elena admits with a sigh.

"But?" Elijah watched her carefully as she fidgeted with her hands.

"I think some sick part of me enjoyed every moment of it." Elena's voice dropped below a whisper as she spoke the truth.

She looks up at him with teary eyes. He doesn't know how to respond to that so he takes Elena's hand into his and gives it a slight squeeze.

"Will you be okay if I leave you here by yourself?" Elijah asked, breaking the silence that had filled the room.

"I'm not a child, Elijah... I'll be fine." Elena assured.

"I know, I'm just worried about you." Elijah confessed.

Elijah stands up and walks out of the room. Elena curses herself for not telling Elijah about Ester, she promises herself to tell him whenever he returns. Perhaps she'll tell him about everything if the timing is right.

--

Elena glances at the door for the 50th time that night. She bites her lip wondering what could be keeping Elijah so long. Elena returned to her book reminding herself that Elijah is an original who could not be killed. She pauses realizing that is not true, if Ester had been telling the truth, there was a way to kill an original.

Just as Elena stood up Elijah walked inside the house. Elena sighed as a smile appeared on her face.

"Elena, it's late. I thought you would've been asleep by now." Elijah tells her as he takes off his jacket.

"I was worried about you." Elena admits, causing Elijah to smile.

"You should get some sleep, tomorrow is thanksgiving though I am not sure if you celebrate it." Elijah reminds her.

"I do." Elena confirms as a frown crosses her face, she really missed Jeremy and her friends.

Elijah gives her one last look before walking to his room.

"Elijah, wait!" Elena called after him.

"What is the matter?" Elijah asked, clearly confused at the look on her face.

"We need to talk." Elena said as she leads him to the living room.

They both sit down on the couch in silence as Elena figures out what to say.

"There's something I need to tell you, but it won't make sense unless I tell you everything that happened after Stefan betrayed me." Elena said as she looked away from Elijah.

What would he think of her when he finds out about what she had done to her unborn child?

"Stefan betrayed you?" Elijah asked.

He was confused, but not shocked.

"You didn't know?" Elena asked.

"Stefan and Katherine said Klaus killed you your family, your friends believed them." Elijah told her.

"But you didn't?" Elena asked.

"I found you, didn't I?" Elijah tells her with a small smile.

"My friends think I'm dead?" Elena asked, realizing what he had just said.

Elijah nodded at her.

"I don't blame them, those two are incredible liars." Elena said harshly.

Elijah raised an eyebrow causing Elena to sigh before explaining.

"Katherine and Stefan have been together since 1930, it seems I was only a plot to free them from Klaus." Elena chuckled bitterly.

Elijah was shocked, to say the least, he hadn't known that Stefan and Katherine were together at all. He recalls Katherine coming to him in the 1930's practically begging for his love and forgiveness only to be denied, it seems that Stefan was only a rebound for Katherine.

"They're the reasons Klaus had found me is because Stefan had handed me over to him, if he hadn't done that maybe Jenna would be alive." Elena said.

'And maybe my baby would still be alive as well.' The unspoken words hang over her like a sword waiting to fall and end her miserable existence.

"How exactly did your aunt…" Elijah paused.

"Katherine ripped her heart out." Elena told him as a tear fell from her eye.

"If this is too much for you, we can stop." Elijah informed as he wiped her tear away.

"I can handle it." Elena assured before continuing.

"Something else happened when I was escaping with Jenna, something that Jeremy does not know." Elena told him as tears filled her eyes.

"What is it?" Elijah asked as he held her hand trying to comfort her.

"I was pregnant with Klaus's child, it died when I killed myself to turn into a vampire. It was the only way I could get me and Jenna out of there. He caused me to kill my own child, Elijah." Elena confessed as tears flew down her face, her voice cracking at the last part.

She began to cry hysterically, it suddenly became real when she spoke the words out loud. Elijah pulled her into her arms and let her cry on him. After a moment Elena sat up and rubbed her eyes while sniffling.

"Did Klaus know?" Elijah asked.

"I don't know, I could only assume so. It was at the age where it had a heartbeat." Elena informed.

"He was planning to sacrifice you while you were with child." Elijah muttered as realization hit him, his brother had become a true monster.

"After I ran, you could say me and Jeremy parted ways. I eventually ran into a man named Owen who took me with him to New Orleans where I met a man named Marcel who claimed to be raised by Klaus." Elena says with a shrug.

"Marcellus is alive?" Elijah asked, completely shocked, they had thought he died at the hands of Mikael.

Elena furrowed her eyebrows at the unknown name and slowly nodded.

"Unfortunately, I was kicked out because he didn't want me to lead Klaus to New Orleans. A little after that I turned my humanity off and I started having strange dreams. I later found out that some witch named Ester was giving me these dreams when she revealed herself to me in my dream. She told me she would help me get revenge on Klaus if I would do something for her in the future, of course with my humanity off, I agreed. She led me to the witch, Liam, and we were supposed to find a vampire hunter who went by the name Mikael. Before we could do that, Klaus killed Liam." Elena explained.

"Ester is not just some witch, she's the original witch, our mother and Mikael is our father, who is hell-bent on killing Klaus because of our mother's infidelity. Releasing Mikael would be hell on earth, and listening to my mother will get both you and everyone you love killed." Elijah warned.

"Then there's one more thing you should know." Elena said as she bit her lip.

Elijah nodded at her.

"I did not turn my humanity on, Ester did." Elena informed.

"How is that possible?" Elijah asked.

"Magic?" Elena offered up.

"If that is true... if Ester's magic can reach the land of the living, we are doomed." Elijah tells her.
