Author's note: I know I've said I am done writing, but a guest reviewer to" troubled souls" had asked me to write a story about the aftermath of 5x07. So I did. I am starting with a VERY short chapter. The story isn't too long, but it is not a one-shot either.
Again: I have no medical degree, I don't own anything and I hope the writers don't mind, but I hope you like it.

Chapter 1:
The way from the basement to the street was a long one and a real struggle.
Steve was at his limits – most likely even beyond – but he was still pushing himself.
The longer they walked the more weight Chin and Danny had to carry.
When Steve – despite his two friends almost carrying him – tripped and groaned loudly while putting even more weight on his team members, Danny wanted to stop and wait for the EMTs.
"No, please," Steve panted. "Want…out…of here. Please."
The pleading voice broke Danny's heart for the third time that day – the first time had been when he had seen his friend on the floor, looking and dead and the second when the SEAL had to learn anew that his dad wasn't alive anymore for years – so he complied.
They made it outside, but as soon as the fresh air hit the three men, Steve legs gave out.
Thankfully, Chin and Danny were still by his side and held him upright.
Then Danny sat down with his back to the house wall and Chin carefully lowered their leader to the ground.
Sitting between Danny's legs and leaning his head against his friend's left shoulder, Steve was still breathing heavily. Despite the warm weather, he was also shivering.
Danny tried to comfort his friend, holding him close to his own body and whispering reassuring words about being safe and breathing evenly.
Steve couldn't make any sense out of the detective's words, couldn't even determine if it was Danny, but the softness the words were spoken in got through to him and his subconsciousness told him he wasn't in danger anymore. He tried his best to calm down, but failed miserably.
Breathing hurt and it felt like he didn't get enough air, no matter how hard he was trying.
He didn't notice the blanket Grover put around him, nor the pain Danny caused him by tightening his grip and accidentally hitting one of the burns, but when one of the EMTs put an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, he tried to fight, not knowing what was happening. Using energy, he didn't actually have anymore, he finally passed out.
