Hey guys! Remember when I posted "Whispers From a Ghost" and mentioned that this wasn't the first time I wrote Luka as a single father?

Before that, I wrote a fanfic with my friend and posted it on Tumblr.

Well, I decided to post my two parts on my fanfiction accounts...And this would explain why I didn't write a flashback of Marinette dying in the hospital in "Whispers From a Ghost" because it would've been too similar to this...

This original fanfic features Marinette and Luka's daughter Melanie.

Also, I might pick up this story again, but not right now.

I hope all of you enjoy!

Luka continued to rock and soothe his daughter until she finally fell asleep again. His little angel finally found peace again. He couldn't help but wonder if little Melanie, despite being months old and couldn't comprehend much yet, could still understand that her mother was gone.

The memory of how it happened still flashed painfully almost every day. Marinette used all her strength to give birth, and Luka completely lit up when he was the first one to see his beautiful daughter. They both called her Melanie, and everything felt perfect when it was finally time for Luka to hold his daughter in his arms.

But then the sound of a heart monitor making a piercing sound caught everyone off guard, and Marinette gasped for breath. The doctors quickly got around her and pleaded with her to hold on as they placed an oxygen mask on her face. The doctors rolled Marinette's bed into an emergency room in a frantic rush. Luka didn't get a chance to follow her and was left with his daughter crying in his arms.

All Luka could do was rock Melanie and tell her that everything was going to be ok.

But then a doctor came in with a solemn look, telling Luka that his wife was dying.

Tears ran down Luka's eyes as he ran for his wife, who looked like her life was slipping away as she could barely sit up.

Marinette turned to her husband as he came into her room, and she managed to smile even if tears came down his eyes and their daughter was crying.

"Luka…"

"Marinette!" Luka cried as he ran to her side and took her hand. Marinette gently squeezed his hand as well.

"Please…" Luka cried.

Marinette continued to smile as her breath became hoarse as she tried to speak, and she held onto her chest with her other hand.

"I...I…" Marinette cried.

Luka felt his chest tighten up as well as he moved closer to his wife. "Marinette, please, we need you!"

"Luka…" Marinette cried. Her bluebell eyes still showed all the love she had for him and their daughter.

Luka continued to hold her hand as Marinette laid down to rest her weak body.

"Luka, Melanie, I love you…."

"No! Marinette!" Luka pleaded with her as he held on to her hand.

"Take care of yourselves…Be happy…"

And then Marinette stopped breathing, and her hand was unable to hold his own. Her vital sign went flat.

Luka's chest started to hurt again from that memory, and he sat on the couch and allowed his little girl to sleep in his arms as it was too physically painful to let her go right now. She was all she had left of Marinette, and he loved her so.

He knew he would have to be strong for his only daughter, and Marinette wouldn't want him to mourn his own life away. His wife would want to smile like he used to and play music and take care of their daughter.

Little did he know Marinette's spirit was sitting beside him. Resting her transparent form against him and stroking their sleeping daughter with her fingers.

"Oh, Luka," Marinette said, even if he was unaware that she was beside him.

"I'm so sorry! I never meant to leave you! And leave you to take care of our daughter on your own!"

"Please put on a happy smile for our daughter even if it will be hard sometimes. I don't want either of you to be so sad that I am gone that you forget to live life."

"I miss you so much, Luka, believe me! Heaven is barely Heaven without my true love! But we will be reunited when the time comes. Just live your best life and take care of our daughter until we meet again."

"And I will always be with you, watching over you and our daughter because my love for both of you will never die even if I am just a spirit."

Just then, Marinette's eyes widened as Luka managed to smile a little before falling asleep with his daughter in his arms.

Marinette knew that he would be ok. But a spirit like herself needed to spend time alongside her husband as well, so she rested beside him.

Luka just knew he could feel her presence.

Luka smiled at his daughter Melanie as she tried to walk on her own two little feet. His heart felt warm as he saw his little daughter grow each day.

It was just so adorable seeing Melanie try and try again. Standing up and then gently falling on her hands.

"I believe in you, my little Melanie. You are your mother's daughter, after all." Luka paused, smiling at his soulmate's memory. "And she was amazing."

Melanie smiled and giggled. She stood up again, and Luka quickly got closer to her, in case she fell again, but still allowed her daughter to walk on her own.

Melanie took two steps forward and held her hands out. She was only just a baby, but she saw a ghostly figure on the other side of the room.

The spirit Marinette gestured Melanie to walk to her. But Luka's mouth went agape as Melanie was suddenly walking away from him.

"Melanie!" Luka cried as he tried to catch his daughter.

Marinette smiled down at her little daughter as she walked closer.

"Oh, Melanie! You're getting so big!" Marinette cried.

"Maa!" Melanie cried as she continued to reach out.

Marinette gave a sad smile. "Oh Melanie, I love you so much! I can't stay long..."

Marinette looked at her husband, unaware she was there, and back at her daughter, who seemed to finally master walking.

Marinette gave a triumphant grin and flexed her arm. "But at least I still got to help you walk!" She said as she started to fade away.

Marinette glanced at Luka one more time before fading away. "I love you, Luka."

Melanie was bewildered as she watched her mother fade away. The 1-year-old girl sat down as she saw her mother fade away into sparkles.

"Melanie!" Luka cried as she picked up her daughter.

"What has gotten into you?" Luka cried.

Through Melanie's confusion, she cried. "Maa! Maa!"

"Huh?" Luka cried.

Luka turned to the wall Melanie tried to walk into, and his daughter grabbed onto his shirt collar. "Maa!"

"Marinette?" Luka said breathlessly.

Melanie giggled as if she recognized that name.

Luka couldn't help but wonder, but the very thought made him smile.

Luka stroked his daughter's hair before sitting her down to tell her a story.

"When I first met your beautiful mother, she introduced herself as Ma-Ma-Marinette."

"Ma-ma!" Melanie cried as she chewed on a baby toy.

Luka smiled as his eyes started to form tears. "It was adorable…."
